Old video but so so good! I'm gonna try to give some insight here since there is so much misinformation in the comments.
First, please note that it is INCREDIBLY DARK during this point of the race. EDIT: (sunset was at 6:37PM local time that day, with the 1st place overall car finishing in just over 4 hours. I have been unable to find a start time however). The camera brightens up the view a lot! I mean, what good would it do the viewer to see a nearly black TV screen? (Look at 5:55 and you'll get a better idea of the darkness)
Second, the Corvette (Magnussen) driver claimed that the Porsche (Bergmeister) "parked it" at the final turn, causing the rear end bump. Bergmeister did not dispute this.
Bergmeister claimed to not intentionally spin Magnussen. He DID want to rub the Corvette to scrub off his speed. Obviously it didn't end that way.
Lastly, no penalty was given after the race. However, both drivers were put on a two race probation to begin the 2010 season. And as far as I know, neither driver had any animosity towards the other. (As documented in interviews with both drivers) EDIT: **Driver interview/quote** Since that fateful sprint to the finish, Magnussen and Bergmeister have both made comments that show the true professionalism of both drivers.
“We talked afterwards and we both had the same perspective about what happened and how it happened,” Bergmeister said. “On the flight to Daytona [in January], we were on the same plane and Jan came over and we talked. I said, ‘Well I was trying to push you towards the wall.’ And he said, ‘I was trying to push me in the other direction.’ At some point, physics got in the way and it didn’t work out anymore.”
Magnussen shared a similar viewpoint of the incident: “Last year’s race was fantastic except for the last 50 yards,” he said. “We spoke about it and [understood] that we’re going to have to race each other hard many times this year. Stuff like that can’t can’t happen. We have no hard feelings and we’re just going to go at it like nothing happened.”
    Thanks!

I agree this is a lot more exciting racing then NASCAR, but it will never catch on like NASCAR for one reason. People can go to their local dirt track and race. Even if your poor you can race the bomber class. That is what makes NASCAR more popular. There use to be local track that you could buy a sports car and go and race at many years ago. Like in Dallas back in the early 60's had Green Valley race way. But today there is nothing but professional racing in this style of racing.

@@joaquingonzalez834 "Lesser class" AKA, they are either much smaller and slower cars, it's an oval track or it's a multi-class race. All of those promote overtaking. Which is exactly why I like F1; an overtake actually means something at any point in the race because they are rarer and harder to do; so when they happen is a big moment; unlike the musical chairs in most other motorsports where the individual overtake doesn't mean half as much. Also, F1 isn't the benchmark for constant 'excitement', it's the benchmark for overall speed with the most advanced technology; I thought that much was obvious.
F1 sure seems to keep up with itself when those who don't even like F1 completely unprovokingly bring it up on their own, don't see that happening with literally any other series, what's that indicate to you? Whether you like it or not (... but deep down you know) F1 IS the benchmark and the pinnacle of motorsports. There's other series that require more skill, but no series comes close to the stigma that F1 brings and is what most aspiring racing drivers dream about.

Even if his intention wasn't to hurt Magnusson, he DID intentionally put a racer in a life-threatening situation. That isn't attempted murder, but it is one step less severe.
He should of had his license stripped from him. I've seen dirty drivers, but Berg will always top that list. Even the LeMans tragedy didn't have as much dirty driving as this.
On that note, Magnusson drove like an idiot too, he was far too aggressive and unsafe. Doesn't warrant being driven into a wall at over 100mph, though.

    • @dAbaPEsTA123

@@mattj790 They were both driving recklessly and the Porsche driver could've ended in the same situation as the Vette driver with every bump that the Vette driver caused. So, they BOTH intentionally put a racer in a life-threatening situation. Based on this sole situation, they both should be stripped of their license according to your logic, not just the Porsche driver.
However, just like any other sport, when athletes rough up each other in the spirit of competition, the officials usually let things slide. In this case, it was in a high-speed race, therefore, the repercussions seem more severe.

Bud, you need to do more research. This is an old race.
Bergmiester, the guy in the Porsche, even said he intentionally parked it in the last corner and wanted to push the Vette into the wall to scrub off his speed. Didnt want him to spin though. He's always been sketchy like that.
Mag clearly had the better car in this race. The announcers were even commenting on how the Porsche has bad tires. The Porsche was very obviously on defence the entire time. The Vette was on the offensive trying to go around him. That's not sketchy, that's just what hard racing looks like.
The "blinding lights" your talking about is also idiotic. The cameras have increased their own brightness for the viewers. Look at the cameras on the cars, that's what it actually looks like. It's a dark track. He's not the only one with his brights on. That's just a bad excuse.

There should be a rule for doing this before finish, instant disqualification. He closed the angle and there was no contact sideways. But the bully was to arrogant to admit defeat and paid the price.
