I remember this so well...the Golden Age of MotoGP...I was on my feet watching this unable to sit down...a really great race. Casey's comments at the end suggesting that the passing was too wild suggests he was taken well out of his comfort zone. Rossi showed no fear, and total commitment, and that is why people all over the planet followed him and wanted him to win. Stoner was so fast that year but he perhaps needed to man up a bit...he looks like a teenager in the interview....but it was the greatest era of motorcycle racing...Valentino Rossi is still the greatest.

I think its a race that more or less kinda rattled Casey as he was definitely raced out of his comfort zone. Vale’s overtaking moves granted may look “a little too much” but the man was very much raced all of his ability to take the race to Stoner given how incredibly fast Stoner is.

Casey Stoner retired because He couldn't handle the stress. He won a championship then he got beat by Rossi, then he got beat by Rossi again. then he got beaten by Lorenzo Pedrosa & Rossi. then he won a championship when Rossi made that disastrous switch to Ducati and never won another one. Casey Stoner did not a championship at the 125cc level or the 250cc level. he won two championships. That's it. When he first moved from the 25cc to the 250cc class he did so badly they sent him back to 125cc for 2 more years. In 12 years at the world championship level, he won Twice. That's not legendary that's nothing more than noteworthy. 33 riders won more championships than Casey stoner. he knew he would struggle to ever win the championship. And if he didn't think you could win he didn't want to race. Completely unprofessional. Take the lows along the highs like a true champion and a true professional like Valentino Rossi. He tried to make a comeback in 2015 racing at the Suzuka 8-hour race. He crashed out with a stuck throttle and never raced again. he lost his nerve. I don't know what he Does now other than being a semi-professional cheap shot artist.

Rossi ran off the track (took a shortcut) to overtake him, which he did several times in several races, to win. Anyone else would have been black-flagged, today riders are given a 'long lap penalty'. Rossi got away with an awful lot because he was good theatre for the sport, much to the distaste of the other riders. On retirement one of Stoner's comments was 'l don't carry the right passport'.

Before? MotoGP is still exciting, 2019 was one of the best seasons in terms of racing, actually, these days we have better races than back in the day, have you ever seen any race from back in the day like 2015 Australia? or 2017, or even 2022? I watched the 2008 season and the races weren't that good, it was usually someone running away at the front, what happens to us is called nostalgia, we think things were better when they actually weren't, Australia 2015, 2017, 2022, and Assen 2018 are a lot better than any race back in the day.
