All their sheltered little lives they've lived with zero danger, zero risk, and zero exploration. Many of them have never even been outside of LA or New York except to vacation in a private resort somewhere. So no, they cannot even fathom how stupid it is that a military ship would just leave a giant hole behind it that any ship can sneak into. Kind of like how air craft carriers just have a big opening in the back in case the enemy wants to swim up to it and infiltrate.
The show gets drama by implying the Breen are dangerous. And yet the Breen Don't just attack the Federation or blow up Discovery or kill any of the people who invaded the ship. I think Nitpicking Nerd said, why didn't they just grab the Trash Can and run? This is neither a good action comedy or action drama.
Keep in mind also that this is 900 years in the future! Isn't it interesting that the Breen at least superficially have barely changed in 900 years? Imagine showing up in England in 1100 and then 900 years later in 2000?

Probably sounds like a nitpick but hear me out, there is one more thing that has bugged me about this show from the start: Nearly every single exterior shot looks... kinda hazy? By hazy I mean, the lack of sharply defined edges around the space ships, like everything looks just slightly out of focus. Hard to explain, but _The Orville,_ for example, doesn't have this problem. All shots in that one are way more sharply defined. I mean, it can't just be the resolution on youtube, because the LCD-TV I watched some bits on had the same problem. Has anyone else noticed this?
I've noticed it too. Strange New Worlds also, looks incredibly video-gamey compared to the exterior ship views of the latest Star Wars productions or like the Orville.
Most of it is their Green Screen Technology and Special Effects Program that they use. Orville uses more actual sets than green screening which actually puts more life into their sets. Some of it also has to do with the art direction as well (If you would call it that). Originally, STD was intended to be dark and gritty. Unfortunately, I think the staff and set designers took the saying quite literally when they began making it.
Its just bad cgi. Looks video game cut scene like in a bad way. Soft, undefined, messy, dark, no contrast. No scale and mass. Just looks like cheap bling bling for simpletons.

However, a television network will only show what sponsors will support financially. The sponsors know that people are still watching Old Trek, not New Trek.

As the Breen are my favorite species in Trek, seeing shit like this just makes me sad. I didn't mind the appearance reveal so much, given it lined up with several elements of Beta canon, but the stupid oil bath feast day thing is bullshit. And the oaths? Breen are supposed to be pragmatic to a fault, not the kind to make oaths or honor them as they see fit. I guess the Breen Imperium is the result of severe cultural and intellectual degradation since the days of the Confederacy. I also hate the fact that the ship lacks any of the previous design elements seen of Breen ships. Don't care if it's 32nd century, it should've at least had some of that iconic asymmetry in the design. At least Star Trek Online kept the motif in mind when they made their unique ships. With the last episode of the series coming next week, I'm sure they'll find one more way to fuck them over royal.
The Breen only wear those suits when they are in human-friendly environmental conditions. I'm sure the air and temperature on their own ships would be suited to them. Nothing makes any sense anymore.
my interpretation of that scene was that the breen might've been a female, and it would be difficult for us to know the difference between male and female breen because they're so radically different from humanoids, similar to how its difficult for humans to identify the gender of most animals at a glance (assuming you aren't an expert biologist, don't check the genitalia, and the animal doesn't display obvious sexual dimorphism like deer antlers). The male voice Book was talking to was not the breen's actual voice but the universal translator's interpretation of its voice. And even if that *was* its real voice breen are so distinct from humans that what sounds to us like a male breen could easily be female. but you're probably right, since everybody is LGBTQIA2S+ in STD. At this point michael, tilly and saru are the only ones who haven't been confirmed gay yet and that's just because tilly never had a romantic subplot.
As soon as they went for the ‘disguised as guards’ cliche I couldn’t take it seriously, all the Breen are about 5ft 10 and of average build, Michael is way smaller and curvy, Book is towering and swole, and Adira... well, it could only have been funnier had Tilly gone.

This is why I couldn't make it past season 1 of std, cant bring myself to watch more than the enterprise d shots from Picard season 3, and cant bring myself to watch strange new worlds. Not to mention how mariner ruins lower decks so I cant watch much. And I want to love it so much... it's got so much real star trek. It was probably supposed to be boimler, rutherford and tendi... but someone said mariner needed to ruin the show.

I really tried to watch Discovery but the pacing alone of this show makes it awful. Disregarding it's disregards for Star Trek's canon, and the shows awful writing.
Took them 5 seasons to reach the point in their pacing where it's not always impending doom. All of the slow paced scenes in early seasons always felt dreadful

This is why I couldn't make it past season 1 of std, cant bring myself to watch more than the enterprise d shots from Picard season 3, and cant bring myself to watch strange new worlds. Not to mention how mariner ruins lower decks so I cant watch much. And I want to love it so much... it's got so much real star trek. It was probably supposed to be boimler, rutherford and tendi... but someone said mariner needed to ruin the show.
No shielding on the exhaust port....seriously Kurtzman? We know he likes star wars but that's a weak steal. And trek has had stealth/infiltration missions that had stuff that came across to the viewer as funny...but that scene was just painful to watch.

I've never watched a Star Trek episode in my life, and yet somehow, that feels out of place.
