I like they remove the legion Y logo and replace it with simple Legion logo, the stealthy gaming laptop look is better imo. And yeah, sadly the price isn't good compared to the last gen.
I want to get this model with 240hz QHD but its not available in Us store. Plus another review mentioned so many negatives about this laptop along with another replacement. It would give everyone here a better idea of Lenovo's quality control. Maybe the first batch is full of QC issues? Please reply. Thanks.
So far in our experience, nothing of the sort. That said, we will be unable to generalize and each unit will differ from one another from the factory from region to region. So we can't vouch for anything. On our unit, blacklight bleed was present but minimal, well within reason. Trackpad was fine, not noisy. Zero coil whine on ours. The battery life issue was present on the previous generation, mainly due to iCUE and the Corsair background processes. Killing that will instantly bring back standard levels of battery life. On our model, iCUE wasn't present any longer so perhaps that's why. But we don't know about the other regions, so fingers crossed. Overall, the QC of the laptop is well within reason with our experience. But again, if any of you all feel it is lacklustre, we would then suggest to avoid Lenovo based on your own terms. Hey~! Great review. I'm actually looking into getting a new laptop. I'm thinking of this Legion 5 Pro Gen7 or the Legion 7 Gen6. Which do you recommend?
If you require the newer features of Intel 12th-Gen and/or if you really just want DDR5, go for Gen 7. But you will be paying quite a lot more. If you can find the Gen 6 for a great deal less, would suggest going for Gen 6 as the actual performance difference isn't that much more.

@@sketchzlab Oh that sounds great! RTX 3070 and 3070Ti isn't that far off, especially with how Lenovo has tuned to provide one of the highest TGP SKUs in the market. As for Legion 7 Gen 7, we don't have any info at the moment, but it should be within the next 3 months or so we reckon. Would make sense to launch soon at the very least.
Wonder how this compares to the Asus ROG Strix Scar 15, since if I am reading this right that machine is about $500 cheaper ($2049 on Amazon), for "better" specs? I do like the minimalist of the legion a whole lot better...
If you're just purely gaming, the RTX 3050Ti would be the better option. If you're going to do a bit of creative work and such, the Core i7 will be ever so slightly better.
@@MEDITACION-8 I think he missed the part where it's a Ryzen 5, which only has 6cores ... i7 10th gen has 8cores. I still have the 2020 model (with the Ryzen 7 4800H and RTX 1660TI) - still very impressed with it. I'm not a gamer, I just use it as a Linux workstation.
Just have 2 questions: -how lighter/portable is it. Last year legion 5 pro was chunky fat boy and difference between legion and asus g15 was huge. How much lighter is it when compared to last year model and asus g15( I think g15 is still more portable but is the difference too big between new legion and asus). - how good is the battery life on legion 5i Pro. I amm seeing that new 12th gen Intel chips are not good at battery life even last gen amd chips are having better battery life. Can it give atleast 6-7 hours of battery on light usage(browsing and note taking during college, just don't want to carry that big charger)
Battery life is around 5-6 hours as mentioned, which isn’t great. As for charger, it’s a slim but large 300W if you get the 3070Ti config here in Asia. As mentioned, you can charge the laptop via Type-C up to 135W so that’s a viable option. Weight is roughly the same as last year.
If you can get the old one for a good deal, go for it. Performance difference isn't that huge of a difference and 12th-Gen and DDR5 pricing isn't going to come down anytime soon. But if you are in no hurry to get a new laptop, perhaps you can wait.
Hello everybody, i need help pls, i got a lenovo legion 5 pro 2 months , still new , while Gaming my battery drain even plugged to the Power supply 230w original from lenovo , do somebody know how to shortcut the battery over software or anything else , its not normal or ? Should use the power directly from the ac not over battery … it’s annoying, it’s drains till 10% and start freezing , so im forced to take a rest each 2 hours gaming ( im on conservation mode ) ,Thanks allot
Battery conservation mode only charges battery to 50-60%, so the battery doesn't age as fast as to when charging full all the time. Also might want to limit fps to 60, to use less power. 230W is bit on the low side for heavy gaming (especially if you got a lot of peripherals connected to).
Even if its as good or better than last years version, this kind of price tag is absolutely ridicolous considering that this is "just" a midrange Gaming laptop. For 2.5KUSD You can very well get high end 3080 Machines from last year so I would definitely skip this one for its Msrp...

Got a Legion 5 pro AMD on sept 2021 within 5 months already send for repair 4 times from power failure to screen faulty, on the 5th time manage to get 1 to 1 replacement took almost 2 months to process, Either quality issue or a lemon unit
Oh no… we can’t say for sure but if that’s your experience, we can only advise to avoid Lenovo for the time being for your own sake. And perhaps look elsewhere for a better experience.
Our honest opinion. Lenovo is great, but if it doesn’t work for you, do look elsewhere!
does this still has cheap ram?, is really the tb 4 is on the side? does the behind type c support tb4?
It’s DDR5, so there’s no cheap version of it or not. Everyone is basically using the same DDR5 stuff for now.
Bought it 1099€ in the lenovo flashsale 🤯😍😍
What’re the settings for the laptop to last 5-6 hours on battery?
Wifi turned on, 30% brightness, power saving mode.
Incredible review and well covered. But the Quiet to Performance modes sure do define power output and thermals strictly!
On a sidetrack, any possibility of reviewing TB4 docks and accessories? That might be fun!
Thanks for watching! Perhaps an idea for the future, we'll be sure to explore TB4 and stuff!
Since it’s more expensive, you should have done a Comparison with the last generation..
Especially gaming performance.
Unfortunately we no longer have the Legion 5 Pro with us. We don’t get to keep review samples.
So, you may refer to our older review to do a comparison per se, but it’s not accurate, due to games, drivers and such.
How’s the build quality?
It’s great. Solid, and well built.
Is colder or hotter for gaming than ryzen version?
They are within the same ballpark really.
@@Terafied cool , u think is worth the ryzen 7 one with 3070ti , 1 tb ssd , 16 ram for 1400$ or is better the 2021 one with ryzen 7 , 3070 , 512 ssd , 16 ram for 1100$? , Are the upgrades for the 2022 worth? Like thermals, noise , performance etc...
is the power brick smaller than last year's model?
Depends on the config you go for. For the 3070Ti model, it comes with a 300W slim charger, though still quite sizable.
@@Terafied Actually I got a discount deal about 20% off for Legion 7 Gen 6 but only RTX3070; 32GB model left. 😅 So, if the performance aren't really that much different, I might probably go for that instead. Haha. Has been wondering if Legion 7 Gen 7 will be out anything soon. Any idea? 🤔
@@sketchzlab Oh that sounds great! RTX 3070 and 3070Ti isn't that far off, especially with how Lenovo has tuned to provide one of the highest TGP SKUs in the market. As long as the price is within reason, and is a good deal for you as compared to Gen 7, would say go for it!
Oh just a note, if you're experience low battery life on the Legion 7, do uninstall iCUE - You can watch our review on the Legion 7 where we talk a little more about that.
As for Legion 7 Gen 7, we don't have any info at the moment, but it should be within the next 3 months or so we reckon. Would make sense to launch soon at the very least.
@@Terafied Thanks for advice. I'll check out your other video too. 😁
I'm waiting for the 7i Gen 7 hopefully it leaves up to my hype
great review, seems difficult to find instock :(
So true…
Can this laptop be used in closed lid mode? I prefer it for work
Sure thing! You just need to set the lid option in Windows to not do anything when the lid is closed, and you'll be able to tuck it away just fine.
One side question.. is there any way to permanently on backlit logo on the 2021 model ? It always turn off when i disconnect the charger
Hmmm we're not entirely sure. Might wanna hit up the forums. We no longer have this laptop with us, unfortunately.
Press Fn key + L , it will light up
Wonder how this compares to the Asus ROG Strix Scar 15, since if I am reading this right that machine is about $500 cheaper ($2049 on Amazon), for "better" specs? I do like the minimalist of the legion a whole lot better...
We’ve yet to have the chance to try the Scar 15 but we would say both will be downright similar in many ways!
Should I buy a legion 5 ryzen 5 rtx 3050ti 4 gb or legion 5 rtx2060 6 gb Intel 7i. The first one is 1000 usd and the second one is 1250 usd
If you're just purely gaming, the RTX 3050Ti would be the better option. If you're going to do a bit of creative work and such, the Core i7 will be ever so slightly better.
@@Terafied I am an architect, so I need to work with heavy 3d modeling, I m not planning to play with it
It's a 10th generation Intel tho
@@MEDITACION-8
I think he missed the part where it's a Ryzen 5, which only has 6cores ... i7 10th gen has 8cores.
Hard to predict performance difference in 3D modeling though, I think you'd best look around if the software you're using is more CPU or GPU depended and what performance gains you can expect with mentioned hardware.
Love your videos
Thank you!
what's the price and how to buy it in usa ?
This configuration is not yet available in the US so we can only give an estimated price. You should be able to buy it direct from the Lenovo store in due time.
I still have the 2020 model (with the Ryzen 7 4800H and RTX 1660TI) - still very impressed with it. I'm not a gamer, I just use it as a Linux workstation.
Does this laptop legion 5i pro have 360° turn display??
Erm… no…
wat about h2.65 editing? 4k 120fps 422
Hmmm we've yet to really dive into H.265. We shall test in the future and see!
Just have 2 questions:
-how lighter/portable is it.
He said roughly 5-6 hours. And for the charger, you can buy 100W charger or 135W charger from Lenovo or something similar.
@@Terafied is it me or they also changes keyboard, this keyboard looks more like the one on last year legion 7
Is it worth it to get the new gen or wait for the old one to drop in price?
If you can get the old one for a good deal, go for it. Performance difference isn't that huge of a difference and 12th-Gen and DDR5 pricing isn't going to come down anytime soon. But if you are in no hurry to get a new laptop, perhaps you can wait.
is the bottom metal or plastic ?
It's metal, only the shroud at the back is plastic.
legion Y logo was epic it's sad that they removed it
I guess it really is up to preference.
Legion 7 2021 vs legion 5 pro 2022 full option pls
This. I have to choose between the two as well.
No that is not normal. Best to contact Lenovo right away.
Battery conservation mode only charges battery to 50-60%, so the battery doesn't age as fast as to when charging full all the time.
Also might want to limit fps to 60, to use less power. 230W is bit on the low side for heavy gaming (especially if you got a lot of peripherals connected to).
please take a look at mechrevo laptop offers they are really cheap and have well packed hardware. want to see that they are as good as they sound
Parfact 😍👌👌
Even if its as good or better than last years version, this kind of price tag is absolutely ridicolous considering that this is "just" a midrange Gaming laptop. For 2.5KUSD You can very well get high end 3080 Machines from last year so I would definitely skip this one for its Msrp...
In Singapore there is a lots of tax so maybe it will cost around 1700 usd...considering Lenovo have always been agressive at pricing just imagine last year legion 5 pro rtx 3070 was priced at 1399...
@@saza5010 yeah that might be true but the 5i is already available here in Germany at a student discount for 1800€ and that's from 1500€ for last year's model. So in my opinion that is still too much for this laptop even though it is still a great machine :/
@@Avarent01 yahh all the European countries have sooooo much tax...so can't help it na....just imagine legion 5 pro rtx 3070 in usa is 1400usd and in uk is around 2100 usd also the same price is for many.other European countries
@@Avarent01 also Lenovo knows that if they don't price it agressively people will go for other brands...so they have always attracted the budget sectors of gaming community so definitely in some time it will cost almost.same.as legion 5 pro 3070 i mean last year edition as when it was launched last year it costed around 2200 too..and ultimately price reduced significantly
@@saza5010 I do not think it will cost the same as last year, you go to remember that the SSD was upgrade, DDR5 cost more, and Intel new processors are very good.
Does this come with mux switch?
Yes it does. You can toggle via Lenovo Vantage and restart the laptop, and voila! That’s what we did, and that’s our gaming results!
Yeah except there’s only one problem. Lenovo isn’t selling anybody else the version with the 3070. I’ve seen this reviewed multiple times and all the reviewer‘s get the higher end specs. But when average Joe goes to buy this on the Lenovo site, they give you that terrible 3050 only and no other customizable options.
I’m already looking around at other models to compare just because they’re actually available. Better fix your supply chain issues lenovo
We agree. Only the 3070Ti config is available in Asia at the moment. It hasn't reached US shores yet. Hopefully, it'll arrive soon.
I really wish they would not punish customers who want to buy thier 17 inch models.
Pretty sure everyone in lenovo were left handed no wonder the trackpad shifted wayyyyy off to the left
AHAHA!
This Laptops 3070ti performance better than pc's Rtx 3070 performance😲😯😮
It’s pretty capable!
Insane price. Definitely not worth. I'd rather get used 2021 for about $2200 or go higher for Asus G15/M16
Unfortunately, most laptops with 12th-Gen and DDR5 are at such prices. Here’s hoping the entire industry will get cheaper as soon as possible.
wtf... 5i pro... processor amd ryzen ?
.
it it's man of the year... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What're you talking about?
