Hi, I actually work for Lego as a Lego tech designer, my job is to animate Lego for theme parks and also I am a CAA qualified drone pilot . Tip for the day, best not use CA glue, we use Liquid MEK to glue Lego together, it then sets like concrete and doesn’t go white like CA does. Looking forward to your next Lego build?
If by MEK , you mean methyl ethyl ketone, then I will stick with CA. Without listing all the issues with mek , it's kind of nasty stuff, and certainly nothing you want children around. Where I work banned it from being used several years ago due to it's health risk. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Hey...if you work for lego you should pitch the idea of combining lego and rc drones for the older lego fans. As a child growing up i used to take the motor out of a walkman and rig it to my lego's to make a helicopter with a spinning main rotor. To combine a childhood toy and a hobby im just starting to get into would be awsome. Lego really should make this a thing.
Fly it in the snow in slow motion over a Lego arctic base lifting out a GoPro that you pretend is a spy satellite landed. With a plot and dramatic music like it's a commercial. I'm 50¾.
Yeah except for the annoying reactions "amazing, look at it, that's so cool". Yeah it's cool but every freakin' video they film themselves like it is the best time ever. Tip for the boys, don't over do it.
This is so awesome! Honestly who didn't want to see their legos fly at some point in their life! So cool! The next step would be to build a Lego plane, maybe out of Lego Technic pieces and with laminated style wings but instead of the laminating material you use foam board! I'd love to see that ;)
Brings a whole new dynamic to Lego play. Lego City fully RC would be awesome. I personally would glue most of it together with the exception of any parts that need to come off for electronic access.
Okay guys this just went over the top. I think this build is my favorite or at least tied with the A-10 and flying tank. Outstanding video and absolutely inspirational. Thanks for sharing, this was great!
Sripol made a fixed wing plane, and tried only to use the friction fit of the Lego blocks to hold it together. Both conditions posed very different challenges than what were found with this quad copter design. Not least: without a great deal of additional weight, It's difficult to imagine making an airfoil with Lego blocks. Even so, that airfoil would be hopelessly inefficient. With only Newtonian physics available, lifting capacity is greatly reduced. It would be roughly analogous to insisting that this quad be lifted with the model propellers supplied with the kit, rather than retro-fitting a set of Gremlin props. I doubt very much it would have flown without that part swap.
So gratifying. I didn't doubt you'd be able to get it to fly. I was only concerned it wouldn't look anything like the original kit (like the box fan drone) or that it wouldn't really perform. Like, technically it flies but not really well. So glad to see those concerns were unfounded. You guys nailed it!
My son got this kit on Christmas day. Once we had finished building it, the first thing I said to him was. "We could make this fly", glad to see I wasn't alone in thinking this.
I don't think handling MEK in a model paint jar and eye dropper will be too much of an issue. My glorious introduction to aircraft maintenance 30+ years ago. Scrubbing wheels in a closed room, no respirator or gloves. YEAH FOR ME. Very cool video BTW
Simply amazing how much attention you gave to keeping the modifications to a minimum and to preserving the kit's LEGOishness. (Even more so, since your methods usually tend to be a bit on the straightforward side... 😜) Great job, guys, and thank you for sharing!
A cool set to fly would be the airport terminal from 2016. Its got a blue passenger plane, and an airport building. It is $100 though, and you can't find it in stores. You can get it from Lego online! Great video. I have been binge watching. And as a fan of Lego, this made me very happy.
amazing! even though I'm a LEGO purist (meaning I only use official LEGO pieces) I'm very, very impressed! fun fact: the "pegs" are most commonly referred to as studs.
I stole your idea and built this with my kids using your recommended parts . It was a great experience and it flies really well. We now constantly buzz the backyard with LEGO.
6:01 I've glued long Lego Technic pieces to micro servo arms. You can also screw them on - M3 screw heads perfectly match the holes in Lego Technic pieces. Great for prototyping, the possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
Would be great to see other lego aircraft fly but I feel planes are too heavy and dint have the aerodynamic properties to fly and the same goes for helis too but it would be good to see you try it, if anyone can succeed it you guys
Two of my most favorite things. And I would be lying if I said I didn't think of this idea the moment I saw this kit. Now reverse it. Make a giant RC version of the arctic quad lifter.
You know you've grown up right when you immediately search for ways to anchor the Lego motor mount without glue and SUCCEED! The trick is to use side-mounting pieces next to each other so you can effectively created a wrap-around structure.
MEK is available at wal-mart or sherwin williams paint stores. I worked with it in the aviation industry, and when used outdoors with nitrile gloves it works fine. I'm retired and no cancer. Sometimes i think this gets over blown.
This is fantastic. This is the exact kit that was one of my son's Christmas gifts this year. If you make this into an all in one kit and put it up for sale, I know what one of his gifts next year will be. Thank you for sharing.

Lego and Flite Test.

Yes I was waiting for him to say kragle and play everything is awesome. You sir get my seal of approval.
Didn’t Peter Sripol make a plane out of LEGO least year? That’s ok. This one looked cooler. Although I would have liked to see the crash site.
Yes, we need areal footage of the carnage!
I wonder if he recovered all the pieces for a full NTSB reconstruction?
Make a fastest racing quad with Lego buggati Chiron. 😎
