Are nebulizers better than inhalers? (for most people)

- In this video answering a question about whether nebulizers are better than inhalers for treating respiratory diseases. Some patients feel very strongly about using nebulizers but the problem is that inhalers have become extremely advanced and there are many options (different devices, long acting medication etc.). You have more choices of inhaled medication in inhalers compared to nebulizers. The dose released from an inhaler is usually also more precise. Nebulizers also require more maintenance and cleaning.
However, there are instances when a nebulizer may actually be helpful, such as for people who cannot use inhalers (young children, problems with finger joints etc.) or when someone is having for example an asthma attack and are really too breathless and exhausted to use an inhaler correctly. Sometimes, nebulizers may also be used in combination with lung clearance techniques (to clear mucus).
But overall inhalers are probably better for most people. Do check with your doctor what's right in your situation.

I’ve been in hospital with flu, and was given nebs and steroids oxygen.. and they suggested I changed my inhaler to symbicort!! For me it’s changed my day to day life massively,as I’ve not used or felt the need for the blue inhaler for a few months !! I used to to take serritide (purple) + blue one for years before… I just hope the benefits continue 🙏

personally i think the mouthpiece is better as there is less medication going into your eyes as it escapes the mask

IS a combination of Nebulizer and Inhaler a option. Using Nebulizer when at home watching tv and Inhaler (albuterol) as needed to reinforce the Nebulizer treatment???

In hospital i was treated with two inhalers with a spacer but i also got a steriod tablet . It worked amazingly but if i didnt respond well to the inhalers nebulization would have been our next step !
that sounds very sensible, inhaler + spacer in many situations can be just as effective as a nebulizer. However it depends on the situation and nebs are not inherently bad. Also, making this video I was mostly thinking about treatment of stable respiratory conditions (not when someone is having a flare-up)
Can chemo be responsible for lung diseases? I never had any lung problems with my lungs and then I was diagnosed with cancer and had chemo and radiation. Since then within a year, I started with coughing and shortness of breath.

Currently im using foracort repulse for my allergic asthma can i switch into inhaler
Been in hospital twice this year for asthma . unless you are in a life or death situation you dont need a neb . i was in a quite scary situation before Ems showed up a few days ago and ventolin did its job , will say a nebulizer would have done better in that cause but it was an extreme situation
The nebulizers are better for getting into all the surfaces of the inflammation because it is constantly being inhaled. The inhaler is better for a burst of medicine. Why it's called a rescue inhaler. Nebulizer is the home phone basically.
