Thanks for your uploads Dr. I have pulmonary sarcoidosis. Most of my sarc symptoms have gone. But I was left with asthma after it subsided. I take Breztri currently and suffer mild side effects like muscle spasms and insomnia. Your videos have been very helpful and informative. Saves me virtual appointments with my pulmonologist for these kind of questions. Thank you.
I HATE steroid based inhalers. Not only do they make me gain weight, i also notice instant mood changes (negative), muscle aches and pains, fatigue, mouth infections, and i become a lot more susceptible to colds, chest infections & the flu. I'm perfectly happy with the reliever inhaler (ventolin) as it provides me with instant relief as and when needed, and without causing me any side effects, but the doctors in the UK are now limiting prescriptions for the ventolin inhaler (only 2 per 12 month period) and they're forcing me to use the steroid based inhalers. This is causing me an extreme amount of stress, and I'd rather just have an asthma attack than be forced to use the steroid inhalers because of how they make me feel and how they lower my day to day quality of life. I don't understand why they won't just continue to prescribe me the ventolin inhaler monthly. I've been using it for over 30 years, and I've NEVER had any issues with it. Yet, they are forcing steroids onto me, and unnecessarily, along with the whole host of negative side effects that they bring.
He mentioned the amount of steroids contained in the inhaler dose is extremely small. The side effects you list seem unlikely to be caused by this medication. I’m not doubting you are experiencing these symptoms as I myself am extremely sensitive to medications… just that you might want to explore other causes.
i dont think ur symptoms are because of the steroid inhaler.. ive been using a steroid inhaler for many years now but only started having those symptoms a couple years ago. turns out i had pcos lol
Weight gain is unlikely from a steroid inhaler. Either you’re overeating, not moving enough or got another condition that’s causing weight gain such as an under active thyroid.
@@emma89 Thanks for your message. The thing is, the moment i stop the steroid inhalers, all my symptoms subside and i lose the gained weight quite rapidly. So maybe i am just extremely sensitive to them?
Thank you Doctor for your clear, concise, and understandable explanations. Your patients are lucky to have you! Having lived with COPD/Emphysema for 18 years I’ve experienced about all of the different medications and conditions you’ve mentioned. Due to previous pneumonia infections, I’m now complicated by pseudomonas aeruginosa and the accompanying Ciprofloxasin therapy and all that come with it. I just want to mention that through research I’ve learned of Hypertonic Saline. I’ve incorporated it into my nebulizer routine and it really helps to dislodge the mucus that accompanies pseudomonas. If you concur with my observation, you might mention it to other sufferers. It might help them as well. Thank you again!
Hi there, I also suffer from COPD/Emphysema for about 8-9 years now. Almost a year ago I was also in hospital with pseudomonas bacteria I was also given really heavy doses of all the antibiotics like Gentromycin, Ciprofloxasin and others via drips, IV and tablets But there was also this one called colomycin which was inhaled via nebuliser. That colomycin felt really harsh on my throat and chest and would make me cough. And since then my condition has declined rapidly and I'm now on 24/7 oxygen and 10hrs plus of bipap machine. Did you also go through anything similar and also what is this hypertonic saline? And also where are from my friend if you don't mind me asking. I'm from the UK btw.
Thank you Dr. my insurance keeps saying that they will not pay for my rescue inhaler,. They say too much money. Iit was Flovent. They keep changing my medications around because they are too expensive. I am tied to this pharmacy because I am in extended care facility but my lungs are more important to me. I will try my CVS and see if they have this one drug there and pay for it. You are a wonderful Dr. who explains everything. God bless you.
Hi. Your video is very helpful. Thanks for taking time to share. I noticed I've gained weight and got puffy face after starting using an inhaler with these generic names beclometasone dipropionate/formoterol fumarate dihydrate. Is this normal? I am unsure if its water retention or the steroid stimulates weight gain. I've been using this 4 months.
🙏Thank you so much for your valuable explanation as to why it’s important to also gargle when rinsing mouth after using inhaler containing steroid. I was never told this. Also that it’s the larger particles that may cause the problem BUT they will usually remain in the spacer if it’s used…
Hi! - when using a volumatic spacer like the one shown in your video here, do we still need to rinse the back of our throats & gargle to avoid getting complications like oral thrush?
The spacers really do help a lot with reducing the deposition of large droplets on the throat and voice box but personally I would still rinse gargle spit as it's such a simple step although I do understand that there may be times when this is not appropriate
I once used an inhaler, similar to your green one, which pierces the capsule. I had to discontinue it because the small broken piece of the capsule would stuck to my throat or pallet.
I've been using Seretide and Ventolin for over 20 years. Recently my doctor suggested I try Trelegy Ellipta, a three drug combo inhaler. For a few days it seemed like a miracle drug; a big improvement in my breathing. Then the side-effects kicked in and I had to discontinue it, reluctantly. The side effects were very severe e.g. my resting heart rate would go from 70 to 120. Looking online it seems this happens to maybe about 25% of people.
Thank you. I was prescribed a salbutamol inhaler along with an aerochamber but had no instructions other than the documents in the packaging. Common sense and a bit of research got me up and running and my life is much better not having to kneel outside in the rain, on the wet concrete while I gasp enough air to stay conscious. I'm in my 60s, non smoker and I was very fit until recently. So asthma was a foreign concept that I associated with those feeble kids at school who preferred donuts to rugby. It has been a bit of a shock to suddenly be unable to breathe after years of good health. Most likely it is a result of working with various dusts, wood, cement, gypsum and poultry dander [3000+ hens/annum] and working through a time of no ppe alongside 75% tobacco users. It seems an incident with a faulty Li-ion cell was the final trigger. Either way, salbutamol has proven to be instantaneous resolution. With just occasional short but severe temporal head pain on the left side immediately after use. Thanks for the helpful guide and explanation. I've watched several videos and read a number of articles and between everyone I now have a good understanding of the drug, its administration and the few risks involved - the most serious one being death due to not having access to a couple of tiny doses of a drug with absolutely minimal risk. (considerably less than paracetamol, which average users misuse all the time).
I’m getting desperate. I’ve got mild/moderate copd and atrial fibrillation. I’m on about my 5th change of inhaler and everyone gives me very painful reflux. I had a hernia repair and nissen fundopilication last year and hadn’t been on reflux medication until I started on inhalers. My cardiologist has me on Sotalol which I’ve read isn’t that good for copd but he says fine. I’m out of options for an inhaler. I tolerated side effects of anxiety, depression and nausea but the pain of reflux I can’t do this.
I have a question about asthma and inhalers. I don’t have severe asthma, but the past month my asthma has been really really bad, and my doctor is trying to stabilise it. He gave me a really strong asthma medication called trimbow, two puffs every morning and night. Could this medication be too strong for me and will it have some consequences for long term use?
@@flashread I really hope you get the mold situation resolved as soon as you can. Mold can also cause psychological damage among other nasty things like “chronic fatigue, muscle/joint pain, anxiety, and cognitive problems (“brain fog” Like seriously it’s no joke :(
The pharmacological name is generally the same i.e. formoterol etc, however salbutamol is known as albuterol. Brand names can differ slightly more but not for all inhalers
I'm newish to asthma I had to go again to the asthma review again. The nurse says I'm stage 5 asthma and need to see something special is that good or bad?

Yah and the major side effect of an asthmatic not using their inhaler is death, so I think these side effects are more tolerable!
Try Nac

so which is better Nebulizer machine system or Inhalers? I'm planning to use both for Albueterol. Which is more efficient???
Nebulizers are better more medicine gets in lungs 🫁
