Should you be worried about "steroids" in inhalers?

  • This is a comment about using inhalers with corticosteroid medication, which is normally required generally in the treatment of asthma. By using inhalers correctly and having good asthma control, we may actually reduce the need to use "steroid" tablets such as prednisolone, which contain a much higher dose than inhalers.
The dose of corticosteroids contained in inhalers is extremely low, but it is still effective because the medication goes directly into the airways where it needs to act. With tablets, it is more likely to have side effects as the corticosteroids act in other places around the body as well.

I so agree with what was said. I have sarcoidosis in my lungs and lymph nodes. Alvesco has made a huge difference. Something will kill us all at some point. I am just happy to be fairly healthy. And I credit taking Alvesco as one of the reasons I am doing well. Before the inhaler, I struggled quite a bit.

I get a mild and temporary headache with Symbicort but would rather put up with a mild headache than being short of breath.

I have sarcoidosis in my lungs. It's in the lining of my lungs. I'm almost 67 years old. I am starting to be affected by cataracts. Consequently, I stopped my steroid treatment to avoid any more of an issue with possible side effects. ( I did talk with my pulmonologist first.) Well, I am going back to taking my Alvesco due to coughing problems. And yes, there is a big difference in being almost cough free. I feel it's a damned if I do, damned if I don't approach. But the bottom line is the best results (overall), is to stick with Alvesco everyday. I am being monitored closely by reporting ANY issues to my doctor. To sum it up, it's better to take the inhaled steroid to ensure the optimal results.

Is it normal using albuterol before flovent to make the medicine more useful, or doesn't it matter?
