Home Free's new song "Snow Globe" really let's Tim show off his upper range, as does "Mayday". The man's got a 5 octave range which, quite frankly, isn't fair.
In the beginning during tims lead that’s actually chance singing that low bass. I’d recommend watching home frees “I can’t outrun you” to hear a lot of chance it’s basically all him on lead with everyone else in the background it really shows off his amazing country voice and the depth that he has in his voice and the background vocals and harmonies are just amazing. Really underrated song by home free you’d love it.
Chance pulls out some crazy Bass in Mayday and everybody walking this world too. Wicked voice, such a great addition to the group when he joined. Tim and Chance is a dangerous combo for any speaker setup haha
When Tim solos, Adam Chance sings bass. Their cover of the song Mayday shows off Tim’s upper range, and he was able to do it because Chance learned from Tim how to fill in his lower register and be able to hit some incredible bass notes. I think this is the first video they did that starred Tim’s upper range, but he is much more flexible now because of it. Chance is a baritone naturally, but Tim has helped him since he joined the group to be able to be flexible in his lower range as well (from what I’ve gathered from reading comments from others over the years)
I just learned that when Adam Rupp does vocals, he does so in the tenor range. The initial 3 harmonies at the beginning (I think after watching a live performance) are Tim, then Rob and Adam Rupp. Then Chance jumps in but Austin doesn't appear until the second part/"chorus." In concert, I'm told that they often do this as an encore at their Christmas tour and they do it off mic to a pin-drop-silent theater. There is a reactor, Dennis, on King Family Reacts that interjected a clip of his personal cell phone video from a concert into the beginning of his review of this; it is difficult to do and was impressive to do at the end of a 90 minute set. Chance's voice has a smoky quality to it, like a whiskey dipped cigar. And the "chorus" is Austin; Adam Rupp rarely solos on vocals. I've been told there is at least one of their songs that you can hear him clearly but I don't remember which one it is. Sorry. Love your reactions. I always learn things from you and appreciate your breakdown plus your enjoyment of all things music-al is entertaining to watch. Happy New Year to you and yours!
Adam Chance sang bass in his previous group, Street Corner Symphony, so he already had a full bass sound before joining Home Free. His highs have been very impessive as well. The first tenor singing I heard of Tim was in Do You Hear What I Hear (which is a fab take and brilliant arrangement).
@@tarjaikola I am not trying to discredit Chance, but from the comments I have seen over the years, he did receive some help and advice from Tim, allowing him to go sing fuller and lower. It could be too just with time, experience and practice, but that's what I've heard. He has an incredible vocal range, and has been an amazing addition to the group since Chris left. And yes, Do You Hear What I Hear is probably the first time Tim sings in his higher register for some time, but this was when Chris was still with the group, about the only song that he did sing in his higher register (significantly) while Chris was with them, and he still carried the baseline through the majority of the song, including his amazing growl notes. No one "took over" the bass to the level that he does in DYHWIH. However, in Mayday, Chance plays a significant role of bass that allowed Tim to sing much of the song in his higher register.
@@hex3639 but Tim did help him since he joined the group... that’s not the main reason he’s a good singer, but it is still true. Again, I am beyond impressed with Chance as a singer, and I think he was the perfect addition to the group!

The really 'pristine" parts that you were hearing there at the last was in all likelihood Adam Rupp. He can hit angelic high notes. Just because chance can sing base doesn’t mean he does it in every song that there is bass... it’s easy to go back and layer a song so Tim could easily sing both tenor and bass in a song while leaving chance to sing baritone especially since chance can’t even get near Tims level of bass

There are some live versions recorded by audience members of the group doing this song off mic. It's really quite lovely, and the entire audience goes silent so as not to spoil it. Really wonderful, and yes, that is Chance singing bass when Tim is taking lead.
Finally!!! I absolutely love this cover. As a bass singer myself, the warm tone throughout is so comforting. The blend of the harmonies is splendid and I just can't help but listen over and over again.
My favorite cover of Auld Lang Syne. An unadorned yet absolutely beautiful 5-part harmony with lots of little moving and resolving dissonance and harmonies. Everything is tight and connected. Adam Rupp’s voice is a treat - we don’t get it often. And Adam Chance on that last line - ; it was as smooth as honey and butter spread on toast, and those little runs were perfection. Happy New Year everyone, and thank you Elizabeth for all that you do.
Before this premieres I just want to say how much I appreciate your reaction uploads. I feel like they do such great service in showing musicians how fantastic their craft is. Thank you so very much! Also, I feel that you are quite the fan of Floor Jansen. I hope you can find the time to give her a listen in a song from a few years back with one of my absolute favorite bands, Evergrey. The song is "In Orbit" by Evergrey, and it is one of two songs she has done with this band. Evergrey is expecting a new album out this year and I'm so excited. I hope they get the attention they deserve. Thank you again Mrs. Zharoff! 🙏🙏
Darren Rust at the console. Darren Rust's arrangement. I've heard you express admiration of his writing. I completely agree. Double bass frenzy? "Folsom Prison Blues". More Chance? "I Can't Outrun You", "Helplessly Hoping". Happiest of New Years to you!
I would love to hear your reaction to Home Free's cover of Folsom Prison Blues. They are actually in prison dress for this song. Tim really shows his range in this rendition. Johnny Cash actually put on a concert in Folsom Prison in California back in the day.
Never heard this one before. Holy crap!!!!! They work soooooooooo well together. This is why they are the best. Just awesome voice's. Love these guy's.
Hi Elizabeth, wishing You and Kirk a Happy New Year! This is the most Beautiful rendition of, "Auld Lang Syne," that I have ever heard and I Loved this performance and your reaction! Hahaha, my exact reaction: "Noooo! Don't be done!" This song specifically, I could listen to something with all the harmonies and colors and amazingness for a looot longer!
Love the joy when you react to great music. It’s so infectious! Adam Rupp sings a brief solo part in “How Great Thou Art”. Keep being you and doing your thing. Look forward to watching in 2021 and beyond. 😊
For Adam Rupp... on your video... just after the 9:56 mark. Focus on "Kind" that clear bell tone high note above Austin's lead is Adam. Adam has a beautiful high tenor voice with little vibrato (at least what I have heard.) He also can do this cool bass thing though (like subsonic bass drum. He utilizes it at the beginning of Peter Holens ft Home Free cover of U2's "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." Okay. At the end you go back to that part. Austin was lead and Adam was higher.
Adam Rupp has a tenor voice also. I agree Tim has the "boom I'm here be shooketh" bass and Chance's bass voice is more mellow and smoother like a romance. I love hearing them both together, a little bit of everything. Darren Rust is their producer and does a lot of the arrangements and he is also a singer in the group "The Blenders"
That section before Chance takes the lead in which you were questioning who was leading, I am quite confident that that was still Austin. And as others have mentioned, Chance was doing the bass during Tim's lead.
Those bass notes were from Chance. When T im takes the lead Chance comes in with the bass, sounds so rich !!! Thanks for the great reaction!!!Would love you to react to "Warmest Winter", a beautiful song written and sung by Austin. Its about his memories of his Grandmother at Christmas.
Guess we get to see her melt into a puddle of goo on Friday. This is high on the list of HF songs I've been curious to see her react to, because the harmonies are so, to use one of her favorite words, luscious (this and of course Helplessly Hoping are their best harmony songs IMO).

That was a really good version, and I think the perfect song for the end of 2020. To remember those we’ve lost along the way, to those we have lost contact with or have been separated from. We all need to take a cup of kindness yet, be easier on ourselves and others. May this year be better than the last.
Good morning! I just wanted to pop in and say, "Happy New Year's Eve"! Here is hoping that 2021 is the best year yet for all of us. And, it has been an absolute pleasure watching your channel grow!
Chance has great parts in both Folsom Prison Blues and in "Cover Me Up." That one brings a lot of people to tears with the personal touch at the end! Thanks for this reaction!
So, you not knowing Chance is the bari/bass when Tim takes lead has made me realize: you haven't reacted to their version of Mayday yet. Chance shines as the bass in that. It's time.
I prefer the "traditional" lyrics and this is fairly 'vanilla' interpretation of the modern lyrics, but I've always loved this song... so no real complaints. Traditional Lyrics: Should auld acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot And days of auld lang syne? For auld lang syne, my dear For auld lang syne We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet For days of auld lang syne We twa hae run about the braes And pu'd the gowans fine But we've wander'd mony a weary fit Sin days of auld lang syne We twa hae paidl'd i' the burn Frae morning sun till dine But seas between us braid hae roar'd Sin days of auld lang syne For auld lang syne, my dear For auld lang syne We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet For days of auld lang syne And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp And surely I'll be mine And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne And there's a hand, my trusty fiere And gie's a hand o' thine And we'll tak a right gude-willy waught For auld lang syne For auld lang syne, my dear For auld lang syne We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne For auld lang syne, my dear For auld lang syne We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne
Hoping you didn't expect them to sing all those verses that the general listener wouldn't have a clue what the words meant !! "Vanilla" is a wonderful & popular flavor !!!
When they sing this live, they do it as an encore off-mic. I got to experience it December 2019 and it was breathtaking to feel an entire theater hold their collective breath to hear each note. As for Adam Rupp, when he sings he tends toward the tenor/high baritone range. You can hear him clearly in "How Great Thou Art" and in "I'm Movin' On" with Chris Rupp since he takes (very brief) solos in each of those.
I just caught this "reaction & analysis" of Home Free doing Auld Lang Syne. THAT is ME when I am listening to these guys. GREAT performance. Equally GREAT reaction & analysis! Loved it. Thank you!
I love when all these vocal groups sing in a circle or horseshoe. Whenever I see it I always end up searching "Árstíðir - Heyr himna smiður (Icelandic hymn) in train station". It's just so haunting and beautiful, even if the sound quality isn't the best. I love the spoilt by metal comment and totally feel you. For me, short songs like Willie Nelson - I'm a memory always leave me wanting more. Anyways, thanks for everything you've posted! I love your reactions. Your expressiveness and analysis are amazing.

All of their ranges are remarkable. Watching them record would be a treat and I imagine they are able to share duties and between ranges. Great nerdy energy! I just love it! She's knowledgeable; I can respect that. And even though I hate pauses, she's allowed because I trust that she'll give you a thoughtful reply for it. Quite ladylike! I get a Mary Poppins vibe from her.
I love to listen to Home Free because of that beautiful sound of a capella and quartet style singing. I use to sing in a quartet as baritone and lower tenor and I can do upper base range as well. I loved the experience and being able to use music and singing to affect others through voice. The harmony and sounds blending was just amazing to create and see what can be done..how it affects others. We traveled mostly the north state areas where I lived and our music was a mixture of requests from popular songs, secular and even religious songs. I was the only Anti-theist (atheist) amongst everyone in the crew. Which at times grew to be a discomfort due to pushing for a specific direction the group wanted to head. That led to eventually the differences being too great and I left the group. I did not mind occasional pieces or requests.. but that seemed to be the only thing the group wanted to do anymore, or to accept places to preform and songs they wanted to preform. Not long after going our separate ways, life just got in the way to find another group to sing with and I just stopped singing. I recall a time where I was asked to help and preform in a "christmas" special performance.. and the requests of pieces to preform were all religious pieces. I made it clear my stance and that I would gladly preform a piece not religious..it was the last time I preformed in many years to follow. I did have one very special occasion where I got to sing with my then girlfriend's daughter at a high school chorus production. She wanted to step out ..do a solo piece.. but was nervous, shy and scared.. so I told her I would practice with her.. she kind of laughed..she had no idea that I use to sing in quartet and such. So I took her piece and divided it up and let her take lead and intro.. I came in at my part and she was flabbergasted and left jaw open. She asked the instructor if she could do the piece with me at this next concert. We got together and after listening she said yes. I was more proud of just being a part of her stepping out to do what she loves and was proud to be a part of seeing her find self confidence. Funny part is she did not tell her mom..she wanted it to be a surprise for her and a gift and dedication..for her mom her mom was just diagnosed with stage 3 to 4 lung cancer. When the instructor called her out and them me up to the stage..her mother was completely shocked. We sang a version of Martina McBride's, " I'm gonna love you through it all". Besides a few times I sang for her when she requested it, I do not ever really sing anymore. No time and life and work keeps me far too busy.
4:14 - coordination in their runs; I call it "rehearsed improvisation". It's something that has been done in instrumental bands (typically big band era) for quite some time.

As someone who is of Scottish heritage. I am really looking forward to this reaction.
Adam Rupp is a tenor, the bass in Tim’s solo is either Tim on another track or Chance who can also sing bass
It's Chance on the bass line.
That's right. Rupp says that when he's singing vocal [not percussion]
that his range is a Tenor, between Rob and Austin.
To hear a good example of Tim and Adam switching off on the base line you need to listen to their Cam cover "Mayday".
Zharoff! 🙏🙏
I am a Floor Jansen fan, and have not heard of Evergrey. I'll give it a look!
Chance does the bass when Tim is singing. I saw them perform this live and it was done all stripped down. Reminded me of the old Barber Shop style.
Darren Rust at the console. Darren Rust's arrangement. I've heard you express admiration of his writing. I completely agree. Double bass frenzy? "Folsom Prison Blues". More Chance? "I Can't Outrun You", "Helplessly Hoping". Happiest of New Years to you!
Yayy. They killed this one too
Chance's voice to me is like a warm hug. Just wraps you up and makes you feel all comfy.
Anyone else get chills when the rest of the guys kicked in?
this is my first ever home free vid and yes definitely
These men have a very rich sound together . I found myself drifting in thought while listening .
These (5) gentlemen Always make the most Amazing harmonies and sounds, especially Tim! I Love A cappella groups and I'm sure that you have plenty of videos/requests to react to this year! Thank You, Elizabeth, for starting 2021 off w/ a Bang and I wish you All the Best in your future endeavors!!! ❤ ❤ ❤
He utilizes it at the beginning of Peter Holens ft Home Free cover of U2's "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For."
Okay.
This one always gives me chills
Those bass notes were from Chance. When T im takes the lead Chance comes in with the bass, sounds so rich !!! Thanks for the great reaction!!!Would love you to react to "Warmest Winter", a beautiful song written and sung by Austin. Its about his memories of his Grandmother at Christmas.
Guess we get to see her melt into a puddle of goo on Friday. This is high on the list of HF songs I've been curious to see her react to, because the harmonies are so, to use one of her favorite words, luscious (this and of course Helplessly Hoping are their best harmony songs IMO).
How Great Thou Art also
Helplessly Hoping cover by Home Free gave me chills.

I would appreciate it very much if you may react to 'Solveig's Song' by Sissel. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/OMO-E4dSuoE/видео.html
You should react to "Mayday" it's really awesome too
#ElizabethZharoff
@The Carismatic Voice
Please Please!!! If you like "Home Free" as much as a german Tromboneplayer, that fell in love with this group by coincidence :D
Please, make a video about their "How Great Thou Art"
I really would love to hear your thoughts about it, because I could cry everytime I hear it so I even bought the chart of the
arrangement, written by Darren Rust, because I was so cought and fascinated by this piece of music.
I really would appreciate
btw.. I saw your videos for the first time today and... well... I saw more... and more... and... I really love the way you analyse and talk about the music.
so.... you just got a new fan :D
Sorry for my poor english ;-)
Greetings F.M.
I love the dreamy look she gets when the music just takes over. Which is the essence of music. It takes you out of your mind.
When Tim take the lead, Chance sing bass parts. You should check "Mayday" to see all of them perform ( Tim sing tenor and Chance take the bass part)
Growing up in Buffalo, New York in the 50's and 60's the television stations always put on Guy Lombardo and His Band of Renown (I think they were called that) just
before midnight to perform this lovely song. Thanks for sharing your joy of music.
You MUST listen to the guys singing "Do You Hear What I Hear." and...... Happy New Year!
Happy New Years! Answering comments a few days behind but... thank you!
Chance has great parts in both Folsom Prison Blues and in "Cover Me Up." That one brings a lot of people to tears with the personal touch at the end! Thanks for this reaction!
Adam Rupp is singing in this song and those Angelic ooos are him also.
You're a joy to watch. You can't hide your enthusiasm and the excitement. It's contagious.
So, you not knowing Chance is the bari/bass when Tim takes lead has made me realize: you haven't reacted to their version of Mayday yet. Chance shines as the bass in that.
It's time.
Confident but reliable... You know you have made it when that's how someone describes your voice
Darren Rust is their producer, the person in the video with his back to the camera. Awesome reaction. Check out Snow Globe by Home Free. An original
Fun Fact: The producer in this video is Darren Rust of The Blenders. He has produced a lot of Home Free's songs
I prefer the "traditional" lyrics and this is fairly 'vanilla' interpretation of the modern lyrics, but I've always loved this song... so no real complaints.
Traditional Lyrics:
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet
For days of auld lang syne
We twa hae run about the braes
And pu'd the gowans fine
But we've wander'd mony a weary fit
Sin days of auld lang syne
We twa hae paidl'd i' the burn
Frae morning sun till dine
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin days of auld lang syne
For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet
For days of auld lang syne
And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp
And surely I'll be mine
And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne
And there's a hand, my trusty fiere
And gie's a hand o' thine
And we'll tak a right gude-willy waught
For auld lang syne
For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne
For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne
Hoping you didn't expect them to sing all those verses that the general listener wouldn't have a clue what the words meant !!
"Vanilla" is a wonderful & popular flavor !!!
And the traditional melody is a bit different too.
listen to more of Home Free they are amazing and Tim is such an amazing bassist and singer in general he hits notes unbelieved by most
If you haven't already, you should check out their cover of "Mayday". You'll see that their roles in the group are definitely not fixed.
So. I watched a live version of this song, and I believe the third voice you're hearing at the beginning of the song is their beat boxer, Adam Rupp.
I just caught this "reaction & analysis" of Home Free doing Auld Lang Syne. THAT is ME when I am listening to these guys. GREAT performance. Equally GREAT reaction & analysis! Loved it. Thank you!
Darrin Rust is also seen in their “Grandma got run over by a reindeer” video. It’s cute and also love your enthusiasm.
This is gonna be so nice.
I heard the song today itself.
But to get the feel of the reaction we need a reactor like elizabeth.
So Thank You
U shud start reaction coaching🤗
Adam Chance’s voice can absolutely be described as “homey”. I’ve been referring to his voice as “comfy” lol😍
"Noooo don't be done". That's how I feel about your videos. Happy New Year.
You are not the only one who would love to see them in concert! I'm sure that they are just as eager as we are to get their tour started again.
Happy New Year!
Darren Rust and The Blenders got together again recently to sing some Christmas songs. You might check them out if you have time. They have been well known in the twin cities area for many years for their Christmas music. By the way, the guy that looks like Darren is his younger brother. Thanks for your reviews! ... Guy
I love going to The Blenders Christmas concerts at the Pantages Theater in Minneapolis. In 2019 I had to choose between Home Free and The Blenders for a Christmas concert and The Blenders won out.
Elizabeth, once again a superb and deeply insightful reaction...Intuitively I sensed v. early with Home Free there was a well(s) of deep talent and artistry, but could never articulate the "why" I am v thankful for the wonderful way you teach and share your deep music knowledge along with your forthright enthusiastic appreciation of the performances and I LOVE the way you generously take care to credit the persons "behind the performers" as well....and I can't tell you how much I appreciate those little "Nooooooo! Don't be done!!!" moments you inject that make your reaction so personal and just FUN... thank you, and a most HAPPY NEW YEAR to you too for this inspired selection.
Darren Rust is a musician himself. He is part of a group called The Blenders. They have been together for 30 years. Videos on RUclips.
I was just going to say the sound tech is darren rust, a massive bass as well
Darren is a GOD in the industry and like all the Blenders, a damn nice guy. She needs to react to some Blenders stuff
Yup! The Blenders are amazing in their own rite. Discovered them on Country Music Tonight when they covered "Naturally".
All of their ranges are remarkable. Watching them record would be a treat and I imagine they are able to share duties and between ranges. Amazingly they are so very intricate in their filling out virtually any sound they need at any time in any tone. I wish I could isolate everyone's voice on this song or How Great Thou Art. Happy to have found these guys...
Heh, you need to react to “Mayday” to resolve any questions on who sings what. All I’m going to say for now, lol 😉 (Edit: oh, but if you want to see what Rob is capable of, “End of the Road” would be the go-to video)
Been waiting for Elizabeth to react to "Mayday" for months.
On who sings what..... wink wink
Agreed!!
Adam Rupp is a very pleasant light tenor. You can catch a five syllable solo in Quarantine. He sings harmony parts when not beatboxing.
They have done this arrangement un-miked in concert.
To hear Adam Chance the best, watch "I can't Outrun You". He sings the entire song. Great video with the song too!
Be proud America for having this group. Awesome singing!
I’ve never heard this cover, but I love the song. Can’t wait!
Thank u soooo much for yet again, an absolutely wonderful reaction vid to this timeless traditional New Years classic!! I wholeheartedly agree with your observations and conclusions of Home Free's rendition of this marvelous song!
as usual. your reaction clips are absolutely packed with information and keen observations regarding the song u are listening to and...its so entertaining to listen to!!
As usual, your passion and enthusiasm as you react to and review each of your clips,......is always so moving and wonderful to behold!! Thank you for everything that u do in these clips!! and if that isn't wonderful enough...you always manage to look absolutely lovely EVERY TIME!!
Take good care young lady and....i wish u a blessed 2021!!
God bless!
If you want to hear Chance's bass listen to CAM's Mayday cover by HF.
"I've been spoiled by metal" Most amazing thing ever. :)
Adam Rupp has a short solo in How Great Thou Art
So much going on there, great sound! Thanks for pointing out how the solo singers are singing, really speaks to the production and mixing work put into making these videos. It’s not just 5 guys crowded around a mic. Love your comments, love the “chef-looking” top you’re wearing!
If you would like to see Chance do some really good stuff, check out Home Free doing Mayday.
Great nerdy energy! I just love it! She's knowledgeable; I can respect that. And even though I hate pauses, she's allowed because I trust that she'll give you a thoughtful reply for it. Quite ladylike! I get a Mary Poppins vibe from her.
Adam Rupp normally sings a very high tenor. You can hear it more in “How Great Thou Art.” He has openly said he doesn’t like to sing lead.
Rupp's degree is in trumpet performance, which helps explain both his beatboxing and his reluctance to sing lead.
Request: Please do Home Free’s cover of mayday!
You should listen to “Helplessly Hoping” by Home Free! By far my favorite song by them!!!
What a beauty! The Charismatic Voice!
*«Apocalyptica ft Ville Valo & Lauri - BITTERSWEET»*
Two of the sexyest male voices in metal in a perfect ballad
I LOVE these guys! Seen them live! Sang a capella 4 part harmony myself years ago. They are excellent!
You should react to their cover of Mayday if you haven't already.
4:14 - coordination in their runs; I call it "rehearsed improvisation". It's something that has been done in instrumental bands (typically big band era) for quite some time.
Requests: Chris Klafford - Ocean Eyes cover and Pink Floyd - the Great Gig in the Sky.
Oh, I really hope she does Chris Klafford's cover of ocean eyes ❤️
I too would like to see her take on Chris Kläfford. He's amazing!
Yessss Ocean eyes
Adam Chance sings a bass too. He has brought a lot of variety to the group. Can’t wait until they come to Effingham, IL I finally get to hear them live.
