Jimmy Bates one of their videographers did the editing for this and all of their Quarantine videos. He is so creative and managed to make all the quarantine videos interesting even though they recorded in separate locations. He walked the guys through what he wanted each of them to do, advised them on lighting, then he put it together. I love Jimmy.
Very well done videos during a pandemic! All I have seen from Home Free videos is interesting and well thought. Gotta give their producer Daren some love as well.
calling Leave Her, Johnny a break up sea shanty is actually fairly accurate all things considered. It's a sad song about having to leave their ship. It's normally not done with a tempo this fast but I kinda like it
@@Crybaby-Media The "leave her" shanty is called a pump out song that was used when a trip was over and the crew left the ship The bilges where pumped by hand to dry the ship out before refit. So to say "its time for us to leave her". refers to the crew leaving the ship after a long trip. It was alos done much more slowly than is done here.
Home Free put out an entire album (20tracks) during lockdown, most of them with the members seperated like this one. Very creative the way they put the video's together. Thanks again for the reaction!
This was Chance's idea. He has done a couple sea shanty songs with The Hound and The Fox and thought it would be fun to do a medley. The Hound and The Fox wrote an original Sea Shanty, A Whistling Lad last year with a part specifically for Chance.
Just finished watching Home Free's NEW song! It's sooooo great! Another Home Free song I would LOVE to hear your take on would be Brother in Arms. This one is going to blow you away!
As a self confessed, Home Fry Super Fan, I've seen this probably 100 times! Elizabeh, you amaze me how you can go over it in one reaction and still pull so much out of it that I never caught. I LOVE it when you cover Home Free, my favorite group! Saw them in concert last weekend! OMG, it was a greeeeat show! Thanks for all you do!
I was just at their concert last night and it was fantastic. Every bit as good live as they are on video! They even used this as one of the close out numbers.
Good luck figuring out how to make Adam Rupp's castanet sounds! He never stops blowing my mind with effects like that. and it is hard to imagine anyone else duplicating some of what he does. Meanwhile, the only thing I love better than Home Free's sea shanty video is watching you react to it. You are always a delight to watch, and definitely one of the very best reaction channels on YoutTube.
How good are these guys? The fun & energy in this is infectious. This was done during quarantine so none of the guys were even together. The editing of this was great & was done in the Tik Tok style. Love all the guys parts, with Tim's rumbling bass underlying it all. And Adam's beatboxing is phenomenal as always including sea swells & castanets. Amazing how he increased the tempo from one song to another.
As someone wrote on the comments for that video, Tim just chills in the Mariana trench the entire time. The layering on that version is epic. We got to hear this live last night. We got to go to their concert in Orange, TX last night. It was unbelievable that the sounds they can make are so tight. Tim's bass notes literally rattled the place. You could feel the rumble in your chest he got so low. Adam's beatboxing can't be enjoyed to its fullest unless you hear and feel it live. This concert is a homecoming for Tim. He's from these parts. We are in what's called The Golden Triangle and we live in it in the Beaumont part of it. Tim is from Nederland, TX which is just south of us about ten miles or so. We really enjoyed the concert, just wish it had been a few hours longer. LOL I hope you get to see them live if you haven't already. They put on a heck of a party. That's their word instead of a concert. We love your reactions and look forward to seeing them in our feed.

Elizabeth breaking down Adam Rupp (a favorite tenor) vocal techniques, always makes me so happy. Rupp’s phenomenal Do you hear what I hear is my favorite cover of all time! It’s on your list I hope.
Oh yes, I think its my favourite of theirs also. The arrangement is so complex and special. Well done, Adam Rupp. I also love this medley. I think they are all dressed in sailor costumes (not just pirate)from various eras. Sea shanties were actually work songs meant to help with the heavy lifting & boring work & also as entertainment for all those lonely months at sea. Love your reactions and analysis, mate. I learn so much!💕
I don't watch a lot of reaction videos of yours but when I do I laugh so much because you have so much fun, your laugh is infectious and you are so very knowledgeable about music, love your videos, keep them coming!
For those who will inevitably wonder. "Leave Her Johnny" is a shanty that was often sung in response to coming back from a long voyage. The lyrics reference how miserable the conditions were on the voyage and call to the sailors, "Johhny" that it is time to leave "her", the ship behind.
As usual, blown away by something I've never heard before because of this channel. The harmonies these guys create together are phenomenal! Thank you Elizabeth and crew for creating such entertaining content!
Thank you for a wonderful reaction to one of my favorite You Tube groups. I am so glad that your enjoyed yourself. You do a great job of sharing your joy with your followers.
I've listened to this dozens of times and just love it. I wish Home Free would sing a full performance of "Santianna". They are so great. Love your analysis too Elizabeth.
I'm not sure what to say other than this was a very fun video to watch both for homefree video and you reactions and analysis Elizabeth. Thank you for sharing this with us. May you continue to have a good one. Have fun take care
Never get tired of Home Free. :) One can hope that you some day will do a reaction of American Pie, which they recorded with the one and only Don McLean, and also a reaction of Folsom Prison Blues.
I've just got to say, you must be aware that you are the master of bringing us a unique, and inspiring way, to interpret familiar music in a fresh new setting. THANK YOU.
You're enthusiasm for vocals is so infectious! I thoroughly enjoy watching you nerd out to music. Your reactions have changed the way I listen to music and given me additional appreciation.
This is probably my favorite medley from Home Free, especially "The Wellerman". I grew up in a small town on the North Carolina coast, close to the Graveyard of the Atlantic, and sea shanties are a big thing out there.
Tim was really still because he was standing in a boat and didn't want to lose his balance. As usual, I love how ticked and joyous Elizabeth gets at every new musical experience. She's like a kid in a candy store and every new song is a new candy store.
Such a fun video to watch and listen too, as they all are..never get tired of hearing them..Love your reaction to this collection of Shanties..always a joy listening to you with your reactions..
Re "leave her Johnny": when I could do the folk thing I always thought that it wasn't a breaking-up song but a ship-breaking-up song (time to abandon ship). But apparently this was a traditional song for telling the bosses what for at the end of a journey - there are other verses about awful bosses, pay, food & maintenance. I guess the need for unions is perrenial 😄 Thank you for reminding me of this medley and also how much I used to enjoy making folk music
There music IS fantastic and appreciate your points and insights on their performances, but what makes your videos - is YOU, your enthusiasm, expressions, energy and light hearted enjoyment. Thank You for your time and work, YOU make the videos ALL the more fun and enjoyable - you’re amazing lol 🔆
I just saw them live for the first time, and they did this song as part of their encore. They were just as increadible live as in the studio! 10/10 would recommend
Hello, Elizabeth, thank you for yet another great analysis! Just wanted to add that Adam's "castanets" sound is produced by repeating "t" and "k" consonants very fast. A technique that wind instrument players do often learn to fasten up their staccatos.
Love this medley!!! I hadn’t heard of sea shanties before Home Free did one. Chance is the one who loves shanties on TikTok and brought the idea to the boys. They were hesitant. We, the fans, love it! You’re right that it’s so creative. And you’re one of only a few who heard the castanets sound from Adam. And I think you’re the only reactor who heard the swell sounds too! HF is amazingly talented. Tim didn’t move much as he was standing in a boat and was afraid he’d fall over but I loved his bass sounds. So good! Lots of fun and hey kept us entertained during the pandemic. Great reaction! 🥰
Leave her, Johnny is a very famous sea shanty from the UK from the 1800s. :) Glad you checked this one out. It really put a smile on my face the first couple of hundred of times I listened to it. Ohhh, who am I kidding, I'm still smiling.
I remember when this came out, I had to watch it like 20 times in a row. I'm even more of a rock and metal head. It's like 5 different songs rolled into one. It's so good!
Home Sea? Free Shanty? Anyway, this is one of those songs where as soon as it came out I thought "Elizabeth MUST analyze this!!" It took longer than I thought, but man, was it worth the wait!! ❤️👍 Also, now that you've got your pirate groove going, might I suggest checking out the band Alestorm? They are a Scottish band led by Christopher Bowes, the songwriter/mastermind that brought us Gloryhammer. Instead of epic fantasy metal, however, Alestorm play super-catchy "Pirate Metal" with topics like questing for treasure "Over the Seas", fighting Krakens (Leviathan, Death Throes of the Terror Squid), a sailor getting his limbs blown off and replaced with wooden ones (Wooden Leg), then taking real limbs from his assailants to replace the wooden ones only to have the new appendages turn on him (Wooden Leg 2: The Woodening), to getting drunk (most of the rest of their discography, lol). For a reaction, I would suggest Magnetic North or Zombies Ate My Pirate Ship because they have the most vocal variety.
I was trying to figure out what the hell was going on in the Magnetic North video until I read a comment about it being a parody of a Lady Gaga video. I watched hers, then went back to watch Alestorm and could not stop laughing!
One of the best edited videos they (Jimmy) came up with during quarantine was "Meet In The Middle". It's crazy good. The transitions in it are off the charts!! Great video and song! Also on TikTok are several 'duet' videos done with this as well as dance. Most are done with the Wellerman piece since that's the one that started the TikTok trend. Theirs has become really(!) popular.
The boys found several ways to sell their roles. Don't know if you noticed Elizabeth, but Tim was outdoors. Can't remember for sure but I think he was in his brother-in-laws back yard. He was standing in a boat while he videoed his part.
This is one of my 6 year old's all time favorite songs! I can't tell you how many times we've listened to it in the car on our 3 minute drive home from school, or having google play it while we all belt out the lyrics. He loves singing along with them and sometimes will randomly sing this one throughout the day.
The biggest thing that makes home free one of my favorite groups to binge is their voices harmonize so well together but at the same time distinct enough you can hear each of their voices. They can meld into one heavenly sound at the same you can still hear each individual voice
It's about time Home Free got a bit of love again. As to how many props Adam Rupp has available in his house: well, all of them to be honest. We got a good look into his house during their lockdown videos and his shelves are groaning under the weight of fantasy thing-a-ma-bobs. You have a soul-sibling there Elizabeth. Adam Rupp got to indulge in his fantasy alter ego in Home Free's extremely fun, fun video for Brother. Would strongly urge you to check that one out if you want a good laugh. Oh.. the song Brother is extremely well performed too and gives the opportunity to hear a bit more of Adam Chance's solo vocal.
I really love your enthusiasm, it's infectious and so fun to watch! I've watched this video a number of times and never picked out the ocean sounds, thanks for that 👍 😀
Elisabeth: Let me get back a little bit... Me: Of course you do, I've expected no less. It would be disapointing, if these reactions took less than 20 minutes. Love your going back and forth and analysing everything!
Another a cappella group I love is Straight No Chaser. They are brilliant and HILARIOUS! You can literally click on any video and it’s amazing. Their original medleys are awesome (movie theme songs is a personal favorite) and 95% of the videos are live, fan recorded from concerts. They encourage it! They also do a 50’s version of Tennessee Whiskey…
Glad you enjoyed this one, appreciated your knowledgeable take on it. Another quarantine song with interesting video editing is is "Meet in the Middle"
There is a RUclips video of Maggie Baugh, a guest artist on tour with them, pranked them by coming out dressed as a pirate at the start of this song. Listening to them trying to sing this while laughing is funny
"Leave her, Johnny, leave her" refers to a sinking ship. "She shipped it green" means that the waves are coming over the bow heavily - too heavily to shed.
This is a fun review, really enjoyed it. Thanx for making me listen to songs which I wouldn't have picked by myself but have so much fun with your review.
I am so glad that you didn't try to contain yourself. You had me laughing so hard with your spontaneous glee with everything you were hearing and seeing. Other groups are good, but HF and their team = magic!
I so glad this amazing video finally washed ashore on the beaches of Charismatic Arizona. ARRR Matey! I knew you would go nuts over this and you didn't let me down. Such a great group. Such a great performance. Tim's voice is like an erupting volcano. Austin, Rob and Adam are incredible vocal artists and Austin's gestures and eyes are so much fun to watch. Adam's beat boxing is perfect and driving like the waves on the beach. I kept waiting for Krakino to jump on the keyboard and lay down an awesome riff. Thank you again.🤪🥰👋
I got to see this in person at one of their live performances and watching Adam also do a drum solo plus Tim heckling the crowd was fantastic. They are awesome
Hmmm, so where do I begin? First, you are so talented in your music appraisals. You are so capable of recognizing the many ambiances to the sounds that bring joy to our music tuned hearts. When you express what we are hearing with your expressive facial features then we get to experience the joy of another human sharing in what we find to have extreme value. Second, and least important, your hair is amazing, your eyes are enlivened, and your smile is enticing. P.S. I'm older than your father but I love you like one.
Love your break down and analysis of this offering it was early in their lockdown videos and creativity was encouraged.
Never get tired of Home Free. :) One can hope that you some day will do a reaction of American Pie, which they recorded with the one and only Don McLean, and also a reaction of Folsom Prison Blues.
Both fantastic songs and defenitly worth checking out. 😀
I've just got to say, you must be aware that you are the master of bringing us a unique, and inspiring way,
to interpret familiar music in a fresh new setting.
Did you notice how the tempo increased with each medley, and Tim filmed in a boat outside. Very, Very good!
I love her excitement when listening to music. She is a great musician and notices all the amazing little nuances in different versions of songs.
I guess the need for unions is perrenial 😄
Thank you for reminding me of this medley and also how much I used to enjoy making folk music
These guys are so talented
I love this stuff. So much fun, Elizabeth. You seem to know how to find interesting things to analyze. Thanks!
Also, now that you've got your pirate groove going, might I suggest checking out the band Alestorm?
Fantastic reaction/analysis to a fantastic medley. This is one of my favorites!
I really ejoyed just watching how much fun Elizabeth was having with this one! These guys really harmonize well.
I love how enthusiastic you are!! 😁 Those giggles are precious! 🤣
I just saw them live last weekend and was right against the stage. They did this and my body shook the whole time.😊❤
Here I go again making the same recommendation, haha….you really must do Home Free’s cover of “Brother in Arms”. It’s absolutely amazing.
I really love your enthusiasm, it's infectious and so fun to watch! I've watched this video a number of times and never picked out the ocean sounds, thanks for that 👍 😀
I think Elizabeth may have had a little to much caffeine before this one. I just love watching her enjoy music. It always brightens the day.
Tim Foust is appearing on The Bass Gang’s newest song if you want to check out a great new acapella group.
I love Home Free and really appreciate your reactions and explanations. It helps me understand just why I love their music.
Love your reactions, so honest. Love the happy giggles. ❤️
You are the first reactor who has commented on the waves and only the second to mention the cassettes! Thank you 🙏🏼 👏🏻
So very excited to see that I’m not the only one fangirling over these lads!! 💜💜💜
I am so glad that you didn't try to contain yourself. You had me laughing so hard with your spontaneous glee with everything you were hearing and seeing. Other groups are good, but HF and their team = magic!
Love the vocal percussion castanets sounds in the last song--just amazing!
I loved this too. Thank you. I like the first song very much!
I’m late to the party this time around on your reaction but, once again your giddiness for musical technique is such a joy to see.
Oh god finally, I have been waiting for this analysis vid for like 2 years from the first time I saw it.
I love the way Tim just thunders along in this video!
Tim was standing in boat so couldn’t move very much. He was afraid it would tip over lol.
Home Free is my all time (and that takes in a lot) favorite group, and it makes me happy that you think so highly of them.
Just saw them last night in my hometown @ the Mesa arts center for an amazingcincert! They're heading your way in Tucson tonight for another show.
Elizabeth seemed to have so much fun in this reaction... she was always giggling!
Another great video that they made during quarantine is Meet in the Middle. The creativity in that one is my favorite.
You are infectious! In a good way! I love, love, love how you love music.
Love it! Love it! Love it! --- Oh, they did keep us through & during "the times" ... consistent they were! Be Safe
