See if you can identify all of these songs with me: - A Night on Bald Mountain - Mussorgsky - Dance of the Hours - Ponchielli - Eine kleine Nachtmusik - Mozart - Für Elise - Beethoven - Habanera from ''Carmen Suite No.2'' - Georges Bizet - Orphée aux enfers, Frensh Can Can ACT 5 - Offenbach - Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, "In the Hall of the Mountain King" - Grieg - Romeo and Juliet (Fantasy Overture) - Tchaikovsky - Symphony No 5 in C Minor - Ludwig Van Beethoven - The Blue Danube Waltz - Johann Strauss II - Thus Spoke Zarathustra - Richard Strauss - Toccata and Fugue in D Minor - J. S. Bach (And Have FUN!)
That's correct ! Maybe just a little something about Offenbach and "Orphée aux Enfers" : the title of this part is called "Galop Infernal" and has been used in our "french (with a c) cancan" :) As always, awesome reaction !
How can we get the award people to recognize the incredible work that VoicePlay does within the a capella frame? They deserve so much for their creativity because there is no one else like them.
I've wondered since I heard that the Grammies changed the name of the category from "Best Arrangement, Instrumental" to "Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella" for Pentatonix and the Daft Punk medley, why don't they have all of the "normal" categories for a cappella songs/groups? They have categories for genres I've never even heard of, much less heard examples of, but there's virtually nothing for a cappella!
The Grammies - grammaphone - recording industry. Voiceplay works outside the recording industry and doesn't make them money. The industry doesn't want to reward and promote groups that do without them. Voiceplay does what they do in part because they are independent. Record companies would never bet on the stuff that voiceplay does.
@@TheCharismaticVoice I watched the Voiceplay video of this yesterday and was hoping that you would do an analysis for us and .... yay!!!! Thank you so much.
"when Layne mentioned to me they were doing this" I've been watching this channel for years, I remember Elizabeth's first Voicplay reaction. Now she just casually throws in that she's friends with the group. 😂😂😂
Since VoicePlay collaborated with Liz Garrozzo and Rachel Potter for their first two classical mash-ups, could we get them to invite our Elizabeth to join them for what I assume will be a piece to complete a Grundels a capella trilogy?
I love it when Elizabeth geeks out on vocals. When it's a cappella, it just goes to a whole different level. So much joy. And then there's Voiceplay. Double joy.
Two references to carrots in here. First is the change of color to Layne’s horns ( orange in Mountain King/green here), and when Layne had the ‘solo’ lead the smoke of the fire was orange and green. Great reaction with lots of tidbits and new (to me) information about singing techniques. Thank you, Elizabeth.
This is an encredibly entertaining medley of some of my favorite classical pieces. Thanks to whoever suggested for Elizabeth to analyze this performance. 10 out of 10 for sure!!!!!
Elizabeth, I love how you expand my knowledge and appreciation of music. For example -- THERE ARE NO DRUM KITS IN CLASSICAL MUSIC! And here's Layne, vocal percussionist, thinking to himself, "How can I pose myself this impossible problem? Right, I'll do a piece where I bring in ALL THE CLASSICS." And killed it. Loved the piece and your wonderful analysis of it. Thanks for sharing your intelligent appraisals. Cheers
This is peak VoicePlay. Layne's brain must be filled with songs that cycle rapid fire. And Geoff's expression at Layne's antics is priceless. But Rachel is the essential core in the entire piece.
Rachel is just an awesome collaborator, and I think they're lucky to have her with them. And of course, Layne's genius. Though, I was missing the carrot in this video.
The carrot was in the fire! It changes colors depending on who's got the book. It's orange for Layne and at one point the top goes green. Also, Cesar was stealing Geoff and Rachel's voices, hence Geoff looking confused and Rachel giving him the side eye. 😂
I love Cesar's attitude. He's like a cat on catnip. From the finger to the lips, then the Can Can dance, at the end, he takes the cake. While everyone else was 'freaking out' Cesar's character was there going YES YES!!! ROFLMAO! Yep, one of the best. I'm glad they brought back the Hall of the Mountain King theme. Was perfect!
But they did. I sang backing vocals on a track last year. The issue is that I'm not close to Orlando, and leaving my little one to fly in for a music video is really tough. Mutual respect, but just not in the cards currently.
I am so happy you reacted to this. I feel like the spell book was Rachel’s and she decided to teach “the boys” a lesson for messing with her spell book. 😆
I think just the term "chaotic" does not do it justice. It is amazingly structured and uniform, organized chaos? Amazing job by them. Iove the modern and musically creative approach on a variety of "classical"-like pieces
I saw this whole video with them and thought you would have a blast with it. It's fabulous fun. I look forward to seeing your reaction after work tomorrow. It's soooooooo much fun.
Thank you Elizabeth for the VoicePlay! They really do bring the classics into the modern environment well! I love the way you continue to bring so many more styles into the modern perception with your reactions!
I really must agree with your total delight in this performance. You expressed the wonder and amazement that I felt. I just don't know all the technicalities that you express so well. Thank you, Elizabeth.
I love how they use the book as a prop and use it to begin each piece depending on who has it in their hands. Rachel uses her voice to get the book back resulting in each of them getting into trouble.
BTW, the carrot was in the fire! When Layne had the book, the fire turned orange with a green top and got thin and tall. Also Layne is orange with green horns. Carrot man!
I love the little Easter egg of the carrot .. if you go back to Layne’s part and see the flames are orange he adds a little green and if you watch slowly they mix to look like a carrot 😂 , it was such a cute little Easter egg , I had to watch it more then once to notice it 😂
lol. Bingo Charismatic Voice. VoicePlay IS Hall of the Mountain King on crack!!! Absolutely loved it and your comments on it. Thank you. It was wonderful!!
I can't wait for the day where fans of this channel get to see you be a participant in a Voice Play song (maybe one of these with the ghoulies)! I love your reactions, and expertise, but i really want to see you just going and having fun with this group!!

Watching her reaction to this was almost more satisfying than watching the video by itself. I'm a rock guy so I absolutely love when she checks out stuff I like but watching her react to her favorite genres is way more satisfying.
Subtext is key to understanding the classics, thank you! That's what I always try to explain to new listeners or when trying to expose my friends to my nerdy world of classical and classical crossover. I've also been attempting genre cross training as I've aged and it is challenging! I needed this geek out, thanks so much Elizabeth!
There was a warning about the first “spell” at the start, and then the final warning to not “loose” the spell on the last page … which of course she did. :)
As Elizabeth was talking about taking organ lessons because she wanted to make the room shake I suddenly understood why she has come to love rock & metal so much. Same goals! For another great crossover tou should check out "Hall of the Mountain King" by Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow - yes, the Greig, but with the Ritchie guitar magic and lyrics.
Love your reactions. Voice play is so good at what they do. I hope this means you back to doing some Acapella groups would love to see you do more Home Free it’s been too long and even there solo work would be awesome.❤
I loved that the transition from “Romeo and Juliet“ by Tchaikovsky to “A Night on Bald Mountain“ by Mussorgsky was the sound of a needle scratching across a record.
This reminds me of albums I had as a teen, and happy to discover on YT -- Hooked on Classics. Did you notice that the fire and smoke changed color to match which character was "casting"? Blue for Geoff, green for Eli, etc. Layne added an extra bit of magic for himself as the Carrot Lord, putting a touch of green above his orange smoke. So cool!
AaaaAAAA yes yes yes!!! I've been watching the Voiceplay video obsessively the last few days since it posted, and I've been so eagerly awaiting this video!! I just knew it was going to be a deep dive into Rachel Potter's vocals; she does some absolutely amazing things here! As for what you're referring to as a "digitized run," from a production standpoint, what I'm hearing is an entirely natural run with a progressive heavy spatial element being phased in overtop of it. All the original notes are absolutely there and audible underneath, just with a lot more breadth stacking onto it that's generating a harmonic! No idea if I'm even close to correct, just what I'm hearing. Absolutely beautiful production work no matter what!
You know, it didn't occur to me until just now (I've been watching this reaction in short increments to make it last longer, SO glad you're doing VP again), but this video by our guys and Rachel has a VERY "Fantasia" feel to it. Maybe even a dash of Looney Toons as well, especially with the Wilhelm Scream. Edit: Annnnnnd I typed that way before you mentioned there was a song from "Fantasia" in it. Well, I feel a bit silly now.😊 What I find interesting is that you and the channel "Good Evening Stories" are in sync with a lot in your reactions. It'd be cool to see you guys collab on a Voiceplay video. Since he has sung both opera and done beatboxing, I think you'd have a lot of fun. Maybe "Sleeping In The Cold Below?'" 💙
If you noticed, the color of the smoke coincided with who had the book and was 'casting'. At one point, Eli was going nuts casting fireworks and Rachel reclaimed the book. When QoFyReacts thought he noticed a shift from major to minor, it coincided to when Rachel started 'uncasting' Eli's spell and his green smoke was collapsing back into the fire. I was so happy, when I found the original video for this enyojable chaos, and waited for and felt exited for your analisis on it. :) The hall of the mountain king was their first song I lisstened from VoicePlay and still is a favourite of mine, even with all the capability of my "sticks-for-ears"... XD
I love Voiceplay and Rachel Potter but I watch and listen while smiling and bobbing my head. Then Elizabeth gives us the narration that explains how intricate and complicated it was to blend the pieces together. Well done…enjoyed every giggle.
Making the room shake when playing an organ is an awesome feeling. I got a chance to play the organ at the Sydney Town Hall back around '80 (J. S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in B Minor, of course) - it's one of only 2 organs ever made with a true 64' pipe (contra-trombone, I believe), and it manages to shake a 200-year-old solid stone building very effectively. And yes, I giggled for about 5 minutes after trying it out while warming up.
I'm pretty sure that when Cesar "steals" the voices, the deep voice is Layne, and the higher part is Rachel. This is shaping up to be quite the epic trilogy. Maybe they can include Ashley Diane in part 3? Heck, do an "episode" with each of their usual guests. I'm ready for the Voiceplay Grundle Cinematic Universe (VPGCU). 😂
Thank you! I'm so glad you reacted to this newest amazing VP production! While there are lots of people reacting to VP's covers now, very few are actually giving knowledgeable assessments, so what's the point? Can they truly appreciate the genius of VP?! Doubtful.
Loved the whole video but 14:40 about wanting the play an organ to make the room shack and then Elizabeth geeking out going "thunder" made me laugh hard.
Having Rachel in her "almost operatic" voice plus the fun dub step beats brings me back to one of their oldest videos with Rachel (plus Tony and Earl!), Phantom of the Opera.
Thank you for another wonderful and educational analysis. I have learned even more about this piece. I love Rachel's interactions with everybody. Now I need to watch your interview with Layne on this one.
What you were saying about understanding and bringing the subtext of a song. How I've explained that to people before is the big difference betweeen singing/playing a song and performing the song. ❤
I wanna point out just how amazing the colours are between Elizabeths hair and the purples in the background in this vid? It's such a happy, vibrant scheme, and it fits in perfectly with just how colourful the voiceplay video is. Eye and ear candy, everything is just so perfect, omnomnom! :)
27:35 I hear mocha latte too. Love how at the end all the others are panicking over the missing last page. Meanwhile, Geoff is just grooving. Then when she pulls it out, "I knew she had it."
And Elizabeth is correct that it also does make a brief appearance in Fantasmic!, the stage show in the Disney parks, as the villains all work together to trap Mickey in the magic mirror.
Did anyone else notice that "The Last Page" didn't say "Do not lose", it said "Do not loose" - as in "do not set free the being entrapped in the last page"! Who was summoned - set free - by the spell's beginning .. and *remained* at the end?
I've loved your channel for ages and even listening to songs I've listened to for years - you always manage to bring a fresh perspective that makes me think about them differently and enjoy them more. Please please PLEASE do a video on Elliott Smith. Between The Bars or Sweet Adeline. I think Ashley Diane does a similar descending run in "We Don't Talk About Bruno." Crazy vocal agility on both of these two women.
I saw this last night and LOVED it! And A Night on Bald Mountain is used in both Fantasia and Fantasmic!
Been waiting for this… 😆😆
This will be good!
I'm so excited for this!!!!!!!
Doubtful.
Have you seen Sir Hairless? He’s one of my favorites for actual knowledge in his analysis.
I first saw Rachel in her audition on X-Factor US singing a queen song in a country style. Been a fan of her since.
Thank you for talking about Lane's brilliance!
When the start Geoff bass starts, I always think of the THX logo in theaters...🤣🤣
I looove your enthusiasm 😍
Still looking forward to the Charismatic Voice Play musical feature!!!
THX for presenting this to us and do the breakdown.
27:35 I hear mocha latte too.
Love how at the end all the others are panicking over the missing last page. Meanwhile, Geoff is just grooving. Then when she pulls it out, "I knew she had it."
WHAT SHE PLAYS D&D WE HAVE A NOMINATION FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!
Haha, I don't want it.
Not the hero we want, the hero we need! (I _really_ don't blame you!)
QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE
I love this video and song. It reminds me of "Hooked on Classics from the 80s!!"
A Night On Bald Mountain is also in Fantasia. It used in contrast to Ave Maria when Chernabog awakens....
And Elizabeth is correct that it also does make a brief appearance in Fantasmic!, the stage show in the Disney parks, as the villains all work together to trap Mickey in the magic mirror.
I’d love to see you sing in a Voice Play video. Imagine the fun you would have.
Did anyone else notice that "The Last Page" didn't say "Do not lose", it said "Do not loose" - as in "do not set free the being entrapped in the last page"! Who was summoned - set free - by the spell's beginning .. and *remained* at the end?
As usual your feelings and energy top all others I love watching you reacting your a beautiful person I'm a fan always have been thank you
I wonder when someone asks them "so what did you do today?" How do they explain it?
I've loved your channel for ages and even listening to songs I've listened to for years - you always manage to bring a fresh perspective that makes me think about them differently and enjoy them more.
Please please PLEASE do a video on Elliott Smith. Between The Bars or Sweet Adeline. I would absolutely freak out to hear your take on him. i really hope you get to see this comment and thank you as always for your videos. Much love!
Nice Wilhelm scream at 17:04 🙂
