      I think it’s been established the A7IV is the sharpest lowest noise general/low light of the sony cameras, superior to everything except maybe the A1 with the 8k readout. Just no 4k120 and cropped 4k60, rolling shutter is the drawbacks.

    I have the A74 and for months been debating to whether getting another a74 or fx30 as a Bcam. But after shooting a wedding and seeing that the lowlight capability of the a74 is enough for my workflow...now with your pick as well...Im getting another A74..plus I do real estate video & photography so you're right if you need to shoot photos and videos, the a74 is the choice between the two. I did pick the FX30 out of the two, but it’s because I needed to keep my camera kit as minimal as possible for full time travel, and it came down to lenses - nothing beats the sigma APSC lenses 🔥 - I didn’t appreciate however how inconvenient photography is on this camera body, makes me not enjoy taking photos - so as soon as Sony release an A6600 successor, ideally same specs in a photo-first body, I’ll be picking one up as a second camera.

    • @VictorLaforteza
      @VictorLaforteza  2 года назад +3

      SIGMA APSC LENSES ARE 🔥🔥🔥 value and form factor is just unbeatable. The new apsc line will definitely be a mini fx30.. we’ll see about the price though! It might be a huge jump or they would cripple it in a way.

      @danielhogston 2 года назад +1

      @@VictorLaforteza yeah price is key - personally if it has same specs, maybe loose the 4k120 as an FX30 exclusive and give us a decent burst mode for photography, A7C quality EVF, then I’d happily pay same price as FX30. Well A7C body with FX30 specs 👌

    im pretty big into cars so i plan to do car videos first, mostly cinematic type stuff not really the speed ramp edits (but ill definitely try some). i see thats what you were also into earlier on lmao. later on maybe some real estate to try earn some $ to pay off this expensive camera.

    I had to make this exact decision last year. I own the Sony A7c but I hungered for that 10-bit image. I am a hybrid shooter I do shoot both photos and videos so the A7iv seemed to be the clear winner. However when I tested the a7iv I noticed the photo image quality was not that much of an upgrade. So it came down to how much was I willing to pay for better video quality? The fx30 was the clear winner in terms of my budget. I do not regret my decision as the fx30 has amazing video.

I've seen a few other comparison videos with FX30, A7S & FX3 and noticed the A7IV has a greener tone. One video pointed out this was especially so when recording in XAVC HS. Have you noticed the same?

I tested mine out right away after that and I don't seem to have the same issue all throughout FX3 FX30 A7IV 4k24p 10bit 422 highest bitrate. I didn't compare the other frame rates though. I think the issue lies with the PAL settings as well. FX30 colours do seem to be better imo. The A7IV still has a slight tint to it.

    I picked up an A7IV and love it -- But coming from an a6100; had the FX30 been released at the time I purchased the A7Iv; I'd probably go that route now and carry both bodies with me. The S35 lenses are smaller, cheaper, and pack a mean punch. However, I do find myself covering a lot of run & gun music events lately; which the A7IV definitely comes in handy. Even with a Sigma 24-70, sometimes F2.8 isn't fast enough for the gritty venues (photo wise, for video it's mint) -- I couldn't imagine the struggle on an S35 sensor. But for anything narrative, controlled environment, S35 is plenty from what I've experienced. Like you said, if you know how to expose properly, play to the cameras strengths, you can make just about anything work these days.
    Ps. Those slight green vintage vibes from your urban clips look SO good. Reminds me a bit of the grades on Jack Ryan Season 3. Makes me want to visit Czechia -- or just travel in general *Looks outside at Atlantic Canadian blizzard and shivers *

      Team A7IV!! I do agree. For almost no light situation, it's tough to get good image even with the a7iv. I use a 1.4 or 1.8 to get a good image. The job in LA was minimal gear and we had a night shoot. The FX30 struggles and wish I brough my A7IV but it did work after working around it's limits! Luckily, I brought two tube lights.
      Thank you! the slight green vibes are from Wong Kar-Wai movie, fallen angels. He did it more in there and I made it just a bit more subtle on mine. Haven't seen Jack Ryan though! any good?! haa, I recently just escaped Canadian winter! you should too!!

Prior to getting the A7IV, I was bringing in my FX30 to do recordings for work. However, I recently recorded an event with the A7IV on my gimbal. And I hit record and stopped recording for each speaker. And when it came time to record the panel discussion, I could have sworn I hit record on the A7IV, but when I went through the footage I hadn't recorded any of the panel discussion. Had I shot that with my FX30, I would have definitely gotten it because the tally lights would have let me know whether or not I was recording. A7IV got some big advantage: Every lens is like two lenses. I use it 90% of time with the sigma 24 1.4 (mostly shooting at 4K 50p - crop mode). So it's became my 35mm go to lens! But if i want something wider, i just go to 25p and film on 24mm (architecture, tiny rooms etc). U can also grab 50mm as second lens and U are covered with those two for 99% situations. Great video. After years of having a crop sensor I can never go back to it. Your video on the A7IV sold me on it, and now that I'm full frame I'm in love with it, and the idea of going back to crop/aps-c and dealing with crop factor and losing my wide-angle views... It's just unthinkable. I really love my A7IV. The last camera of any kind that I bought, other than GoPros, was a Nikon D80 and the upgrade from that is just astonishing. The learning curve has been steep but I'm loving it. Thanks for providing this great channel and your perspective!
    Just as a side note: I would recommend this guy's digital products to anyone. His discord is a nice place to learn from him and others, share work, etc. Great channel and resource overall and he stands by what he sells and says, which is rare.

    • @VictorLaforteza
      @VictorLaforteza  2 года назад

      This is what the confusing thing is.. 4k A7iv is better but the fx30 is there. 1080p the a7iv has the sharpest image in crop mode beating the fx30 while 1080p in full frame mode sucks really bad out of the three. 🤪🤪

    To me, it makes no sense to get the FX30 unless you already have APSC lenses or maybe coming from another crop sensor camera. I am just a full frame lens accumulator and the 60p 4K crop on the A7IV works fine with my 17-28 bc I also am not a super wide angle film maker. Paired with my 28-75 G2 I am pretty much covered for all things including photography. I actually downgraded from my FX3, sold it for more than I bought it, and will wait until they hopefully put electronic ND's in the next "FX3II". That is the only thing I really would like to have. I love the A7IV and more than the FX3 except in the dark where the 12,800 ISO was/is unbeatable by any other camera currently on the market.

      Amen to this dude! FX30 is the perfect jump for current sony APSC users but if you have full frame glass, just stick with FF. I do find myself shooting a lot more with the A7IV than the FX3... but that's another story lol A7IV is just so versatile.

      @@VictorLaforteza The FX3 is quite nice, But I had a chance to sell it for more than I bought it for back in the "chip shortage" months ago and decided to jump on it and just get the A7IV until they put Electronic ND's and I was not really taking advantage of the 120p 4K. I'm more of a photog but trying to step up my video. So I thought the a7iv would be perfect, just flip a switch. Well, not really. There's the ND issue, maybe you want to use a monitor or external mic. By the time you hook up all this stuff, you realize just 'flip the switch' isn't happening. So I asked my wife to get me an FX30 for xmas, and she did! SO much easier with the two bodies. however i can think of one area where fx30 has an advantage. in bright conditions fx30 can use clear image zoom and still get a full 4k readout. whereas the a7iv in apsc mode will no longer be true 4k. getting 168mm reach with a 28-70mm is pretty sweet, no more need for a 70-200
