The ZVE1 is 3000$ body only plus a lens with taxes 5000$ Canadian $. I think is priced very badly. Is a good camera but can't be compared with the FX30 or the Blackmagic. The ZVE1 is not a pro camera. If you use cine lenses ok n the FX30 with T0.5 or 1.5 you have no problem with noise in low light. Great video
What means pro camera? Because I use the zv-e1 for wedding video, videoclip, corporate video, so professionally, and I think that is camera is great for these pro project…
Both are excellent cameras. I currently have a ZV-E10, and I have a Viltrox 13mm 1.4 and a Tamrom 17-70mm 2.8, as the lenses are APSC, the logical thing would be the FX30, but the ZVE1 has the mode that simulates an APSC, in this case you can use APSC lenses without any problem, and using dynamic stabilization, you will not have any additional crop after simulating the APSC mode, this removes the need for a gimbal for light professional work, such as wedding events, nightclubs, aftermovies for DJs and some short commercial videos, all of them aimed at social networks (vertical format), which results in the takes not being long, at most 1 to 5 minutes of continuous recording. Soon the ZVE1 would fit much better because the sensor is the same as the A7SIII, where its performance in low light is unreal, and at night it would do much better. About overheating, some said that it would be enough to turn off the overheating warning that this will not damage the camera, nor turn it off at all. About 4K, for me I would use 4K60 more than 4K 120, but it's good to have a 4K 120 with almost no crop up your sleeve if you need to use it. My two fears with the ZVE1 over the FX30 are that it doesn't have 2 SD card slots, although I've always worked with the ZVE10 and because it has 1 card slot, I never felt that fear of losing customer material, as it's the only camera I have, so either I work or I don't, with the ZVE1 it's no different. the second fear is overheating, but I don't know this is only in 4K 120 or if it would affect 4K 60 as well, and if you turn off this warning, the camera could be damaged or it would turn off, but as I said, my work does not have takes longer than 10 continuous minutes.
Great comparision! I plan to get the FX30 for in-studio talking head videos. When considering price, picture quality, durability/no overheating, I am leaning towards the FX 30.
The film alliance ,your script , your videos , they a give me goosebumps and always keeps me glued in curiosity and you are actually amongst the persons that made me pick interest in cameras 📷
Man I don't normally leave reviews but this was so informative. I can only imagine how long this video took you. Thank you for putting in the time to make this.
good one coach! For me, because I am on a budget, I would go with the fx30 and really master the manual settings! And yes, would like to see a video on cinevlog or whatever it's called
Is it just me but even after editing the fx30 looks so much more realistic in terms of colors and image depths and als dynamic range. (For example on the bridge the trees in the background all have their distinctive color and they don't look like a grey blob. The shot from the car (tamaron 17-28) also shows a massive difference in plasticity. The first shot with the old women in pink shows the same difference. It was immediately noticeable to me on a big screen. Sharpness also seems to be better on the fx-30.Image stabilization can always be compensated for with a gimbal/ steady cam/.... What do you think about that observation as a professional creator ? Btw. one of the most epic reviews I have ever seen in terms of production quality. Where others are technical an boring your comparison feels like a short movie.
I noticed those details as well and the sharpness does seem better on the fx-30 and agree that it looks more realistic in color, image depths, and dynamic range, as you mentioned based off of the side-by-side comparisons.
The most detailed, informative, and cinematic camera review I've ever seen. Thank you for the hard work put into it. I'm sharing this with my team as we're getting ready to invest.
I want to buy it for shooting travel reels video. Especially the slow motion shots. Which camera do you think is apt for me, out of these 2? Thanks. What a video you created. No words!!!
Great video, I watched it even though I already decided on the ZV-E1. One thing is the body isn't smaller to be cheap, it was made to be one of the lightest and smallest full frame cameras, and I'm able to fit it in the pocket of some of my jeans and shorts with the 24mm 2.8. Heat hasn't been an issue so far, however where I live we don't spend more time than necessary in 90 or 100+ degree temps, we work around being outside in those conditions. I will do further tests on it this summer recording for a friends business though.
As always, so good! I'm still very happy with my ZV-1 so don't plan on getting anything new at the moment, but if I do get to that point, you'll be my go-to guy!
Sony ZV-E1 Hello can you please answer my 3 question I would be grateful. 1: at 4k 120 FPS or FHD 240 FPS which stabilizer can you activate? E.g. you can activate the speech stabilizer. 2: Does focus training work at 120 FPS and 240 FPS? 3: at low light is the same as FX3 and A7siii?
Just found your channel and really enjoyed the reviews I’ve seen so far. I may have missed it but did you ever account for the difference in the look of the images between both Sony cameras. It was quite a noticeable difference.
Awesome Video! Love the cinematics!!! The Fx30 being noisy in lowlight and Apsc, the ZV E1 overheats.. i think its better to save the money and go straight to FX3 or A7S3 ... but that's just me.. buy once cry once 😂
i agree, I think if you can't get A7Siii or FX3, then ZV-E1 is the logical choice, but I just don't know why anyone would get an APS-C camera nowadays...the whole point of getting the dedicated, interchangeable lens, mirrorless is to get the big sensor, if not you can use action cams and phones, because they have caught up so much nowadays. I would rather just go all in on the best image when I decide its time to upgrade.
@@MaximoJoshua I mainly use an A7IV for to be honest i think i would go APSC for as a second lighter camera (with APSC lenses) and its easy to get a great look out of a good APSC sensor like most of the movies I love. If someone put a movie on now I would be hard pressed to see a difference if it was shot well. I recently went back a edited some older footage I made on an ASPC sensor and i was really happy with it. I personally think full frame is a little over hyped, sound and lighting is far more important (skill too).
Brilliant intro and video!! I chose the zve1 as a b-cam, but I recommend the fx30 for people who need an a-cam. However, I use APSC lenses on the zve1 because, with the dynamic stabilization's crop or with clear image zoom, you basically get crop mode! For that reason, the Sony 11 f1.8 is one of the most popular lenses for the zve1. Great work as usual!
Thanks for pointing that out. I was scratching my head when he said the zve1 wasnt good with apsc lenses as so many other youtubers had said it was great.
@@MauricioVives yes, you're right... you will lose some resolution, but it's hardly noticeable. It's nice to have the options, APSC or full frame lenses.
Thats actually a great question. I created a camera quiz to help you figure out which camera is best for what you are using it for. Have you taken it yet? I’d say from what you described the FX30 due to its cooling fan
This is a tough one for me, as I have had both of these and sent them both back for various reasons. I currently have a Sony A74 with a 24mm F1.4 GM and the Sony 200-600 for wildlife. I am looking to get another lens to go along with the A74 and would like to get a second camera, maybe a bit more lightweight and want to do more video (just family, travel, neighborhood association stuff). So, trying to decide what the second camera should be so I know where to go with the next lens purchase or two. The issue with the FX30 to me, is the APS-C (don't want to deal with two different types of lenses, even though APS-C are cheaper, and it is too much money to spend on FF lenses for an APS-C sensor). Also thinking about waiting for the Sony A7Cii which could give me that small form factor.
If you are unsure I would wait til you feel fully confident in your decision. I would possibly suggest the ZVE1 though for your situation, as it is a full frame camera and your colors will match up best with A74. Hope that helps
Great review. I currently have the A7s3 and the Fx30. Currently using ZV1 for my vlogging channel, but going with the ZVE1 because it's small and light. That is the main draw for me, and not needing a gimbal. TI used the fx30 for vlogging before, but damn, it's heavy! Thanks for the wealth of information!
Sounds great man! I know, it is heavier. You’ll be happy with the E1 if it’s in your budget. Otherwise, I always say work with what you got and become as master at it, until it is in your budget!
A question I wish you could answer: in some takes the zv e1 image tends to be more blue, and darker, and more relaxed (not in an unpleasant way); while the fx30 seems lighter and more reddish, as well as a bit more detailed (this is not bad either). Same lens... post pro? Very subtle but evident difference, that difference in color and tone... I wonder why? In any case, which "look" do you prefer? And that brings (maybe) other question: as for APSC allowing cheaper lenses, it is true; but also is said a FF lens loses two thirds of an exposure stop when used in an APSC, that is to say that the FF camera makes a 1.2 a 1.2, while in APSC 1.2 means maybe 1.8, so I think this is how the price should be compared, if you want to emulate the brightness of a 1.8 FF you should buy a 1.2 APSC; so that "count" is not exactly as everyone says. Or maybe I'm wrong ("bah no sé", often says a friend of me). Greetings
I just couldn't see getting APS-C in 2023. I just think that getting full frame is just like a basic requirement. I think if you can't get the A7Siii or the FX3, then the ZV-E1 is the way to go, or just wait till you can get either of the bigger/better ones. I just don't think that APS-C is the move nowadays. There are so many great, super cheap small sensor cameras (iphone 15 pro, DJI pocket 3, etc), that if i wanted to move up to interchangeable lens, mirrorless, I wouldn't do it unless it was full frame. You will probably need to upgrade to that anyway, so why invest in the APS-C just to have to switch later anyway. I like the "barbell strategy", you optimize for cheap, easy to use, or you dive in and go for the big upgrade, no half measures. Basically, don't get something that is not great at either thing, but ok in the middle. Maybe that is a "hot take", but I just wouldn't bother with APS-C (unless I had an alexa, which I think is Super 35 actually).
The ZV-E1 does not accept timecode IN. The FX30 does, but you do need to purchase a special cable for it. I use TC on my FX3 all the time and it’s amazing.
Thanks a lot this is by far the most comprehensive comparison I have seen. I am on the fence of upgrading from a7c to either of the cameras mostly for 10bit 4:2:2 4k 60 fps videos. I really like the body design of FX30 but I think I will go with ZV-E1. Bizarre enougth, what helped me make the decision is your "picture profile" section - FX30 footage has those little shakes that are quite annoying for me. I don't expect gimbal-level stabilization and I quite like the natural "organic" moves, but small jigs are distracting. Thanks again for the effort you put in this video!
I'd love to see what you could do with the CINE VLOG set on the ZV1MKii. I'm considering three options for a new video camera, ZVE10, ZV1MKii or ZVE1. The ZVE1 might push the budget too far, considering I'd have to get a lens(s) as well. I love my ZV1 so ZV1MKii is great in terms of budget. The ZVE10 gives a best of both worlds compromise and is still very budget friendly. Your videos are really helping me fine tune my decision, but I'm stuck at these three. If CINE VLOG looks good enough on the ZV1MKii, that might be the decision maker. Please don't remind me that APSC lenses are cheaper than FF and that makes the FX30 more budget friendly than the ZVE1. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It depends what you will be using it for. The ZVE10 doesn’t shoot in 4K 60 fps which is a must in professional work. The ZVE1 does, but higher budget range. Is the ZV1 no longer serving your needs?
@@thefilmalliance Good points, I forgot about ZVE10 not doing 4K 60. The ZV1 is working great for me and I love it, it isn’t going anywhere for sure. My other camera is a Canon EOS250D with a 24mm 2.8 and the kit lens. It’s a far more limited machine than the ZV1 so I’m looking for something that will compliment the ZV1 a bit more closely and fits my workflow better. I’m going to be doing more music videos for the band and I like being able to have one locked off angle and one “follow cam”. So adding another Sony makes a lot of sense. Thanks for your advice!
If you are on a budget ZV-E10, with a lense that you could pay. If you have the money the FX30 is the way to go. Because you have unlimited record time without overheating for long recording sessions thats what you need, oh and you'll need a dummy battery as well for the ZV-E10. Good luck
An alternative pairing would be A7IV and FX30, both of which can record up to 4K60p in super35 mode and share the same apsc lenses. A7IV would also take much better photos than ZV-E1.
I would pick the fx30 all day. I shoot aps-c and have no need for a full frame frame camera I just wish sony cared enough about there aps-c line up to give us good aps-c camera's instead they just treat it as starter and expect you to jump to full frame for better specs. You know full-frame isn't for everyone I just hope they remember that instead of making us upgrade to full frame when they can just deliver an aps-c camera's that can keep up with there full frame line up and the only difference should be there sensor size.
The main “problem” is that I think the E1 is too small for all the full frame lenses. Even if the body is small the hole package with e.g 24-70 gm will be huge compared to FX30 + 18-50 f2.8 Sigma lens with similar focal lengths. And I guess the E1 don’t have APS-C mode?
It’s crazy how much further ahead cellphone cameras are with software. Lens and sensors are really the only advantages left. I can’t imagine who could compete if Apple decided to make an interchangeable lens camera
This is my exact point, I think that iPhone 15 Pro is the perfect camera until you decide to go full frame. Once you are pushing the limits of not being able to get the shots you want, that is the point when you upgrade, and if you are going to upgrade, its literally because you want the big sensor, so get the FX3, A7Siii or ZV-E1. I can't see any reason to get an APS-C camera. Drones like Air 3 and Mini 4 Pro all use 1/1/3 sensors, as does the iPhone, and they produce amazing footage, as does the Pccket 3. I just don't see the point in getting an in-between camera, which you will probably need to trade for something with a bigger sensor. I think high-end cameras are safe, but low end dedicated cameras are getting eaten into by phones and drones. So I would just use what you have till you can get something that gives you a noticeable, big upgrade.
Hey brother ❤I just bought the fx30, I’m not a photographer just for video purpose, now I’m kinda regretting that for a savings of few hundred dollars I missed out on a full frame sony camera? I kind of worried if fx30 is future proof as of today
Hello, I'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Please, could you guide me on the recording modes of the Sony FX30? Does it also film in Full HD, or does it only film in 4K?
Wow, that's an amazing camera review:) thanks! I've watched them all before purchasing it. I got 20mm 1.8 lens, wish I had gotten it all earlier before some cool trips I took!! I love it. The size is perfect. The lens is huge tho, but that was my choice :D Wish it wasn't so bulky, it definitely scares some people away when you trying to film in public spaces. autofocus and dynamic stabilization are great. I have a vlog from London shot entirely on it, if anyone's interested check it out, I color-graded it with some film emulation in Final Cut
i hope the ZV-E1 gets the anamorphic desqueeze and DCI.. right now,, need to use a monitor anyway cause the anamorphic i have is 1.8x and the one I want is 1.5x lol,, smh.. idk why they left those two out
my experience ... if video is important buy a camera with internal fan. If you are looking for a hybrid camera... buy fx30. Overheating is big issue when shooting videos with mirrorless cameras. I purchased A6700 .. perfect hybrid camera when shooting indoor with ac on. HAHA (videos)
Apologies, complete beginner, does anyone know if there would be a way to use the canon dual fisheye lense with either of these sony cameras using some kind of adapter? Am sure lens adapters are more complicated than just simply plug an play...
Which two cameras would you like to see compared next?

I like the "barbell strategy", you optimize for cheap, easy to use, or you dive in and go for the big upgrade, no half measures. Basically, don't get something that is not great at either thing, but ok in the middle. Maybe that is a "hot take", but I just wouldn't bother with APS-C (unless I had an alexa, which I think is Super 35 actually).
Your video quality is nut man, I loved it
Thanks man, means a lot
What a fantastic high quality video. Really well done. Would have be a lot of work!
Thanks Mark, really appreciate it man.
The ZV-E1 does have TimeCode.. it's just hidden in the menu :D I already have a few projects that I use it on.
The ZV-E1 does not accept timecode IN. The FX30 does, but you do need to purchase a special cable for it. I use TC on my FX3 all the time and it’s amazing.
Another masterpiece filled with great information. Your a creative genius. 👊
Thank you, I appreciate the encouragement!
I almost pulled the trigger on the FX30 but I'll wait and see what the A6700 has to offer (if the rumored announcement is true).
Good plan!
What lens did you use to record the face at 14 minutes into this video?
Such a compliment, thanks man. So glad I could help you
Also just make sure whatever computer you are editing on can handle 4:2:2 10 bit
@@thefilmalliance Thanks I am using a m2 mac air. It should be fine. But thanks!
Got the ZV-E1 really is a sturdy camera
Good lord that opening sequence got me hooked. Amazing job man 🙏
I'd love to see what you could do with the CINE VLOG set on the ZV1MKii.
@@thefilmalliance
Good points, I forgot about ZVE10 not doing 4K 60.
Thanks for your advice!
this felt like a movie, but it was a camera comparison
Thank you, I was kind of going for that so I’m happy it translated
Thank you, I was kind of going for that so I’m happy it translated
This is a phenomenal overview. The best out there.
Wow thank you
Can we actually see anamorphic visuals on the fx 30 camera screen itself? Can we clearly see what we are shooting?.. The original disqueez visual
either of these vs the A75?
What camera should I get for podcasting?
If you are on a budget ZV-E10, with a lense that you could pay. If you have the money the FX30 is the way to go. Because you have unlimited record time without overheating for long recording sessions thats what you need, oh and you'll need a dummy battery as well for the ZV-E10. Good luck
@@dangerousmethod_33 Thank you for your response!
An alternative pairing would be A7IV and FX30, both of which can record up to 4K60p in super35 mode and share the same apsc lenses. A7IV would also take much better photos than ZV-E1.
That’s a great idea!
The a7iv is a very nice camera.
Would be interesting to compare the ZV-E1 with the 7 IV
Great review and comparison! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for sharing. I think the ZV-E10 would be a good fit for you.
I’m looking at the fx30 as a b cam to the fx6 and fx3
The main “problem” is that I think the E1 is too small for all the full frame lenses. Even if the body is small the hole package with e.g 24-70 gm will be huge compared to FX30 + 18-50 f2.8 Sigma lens with similar focal lengths.
And I guess the E1 don’t have APS-C mode?
Was that a vape you used to introduce "atmosphere"(fog) at the beginning?
No that’s a microfogger
Thank you! Finally someone with organized info on this cameras. Super helpfull!!!!!
Awesome man, thanks for that! Glad I could help
Great explanation. So what should I buy...lol
Haha you should go take my quiz. I put the link in my description. It should hopefully help you decide
This channel deserves 100k subs 🫡🫶🏼
Thanks!!
What a masterpiece. I would like to get to know more about burst you discussed here 13:50.
I'm still getting comfortable with my zv e10.
Thank you. Burst is great when you are shooting fast moving objects. Go to drive mode and click continuous shooting:high. Then you’re good to go!
Fx30 is amazing
Well done! You covered everything
Thank you, hope you found it helpful
Love this intro 🙆♂️🎥🎥insane !!
To be honest if I had either I’d be stoked.
In time, keep working towards your goals. 💪🏻
Great channel, concise and very informative 👍🏻
The sound of this video ist amazing. The rest of the video too 😄 but the sound is very present for me.
Maybe you brought me to buy the zve1 😅
Something a nut the fx30 image looks “dark” like a there’s a blanket over it compared to zve1. Watching on a 1080p projector at around 90-100”
Thanks for this feedback. ✨👍
Do you have a video comparing gimbals?
Also I just noticed you’re in Atlanta. If you ever need an extra shooter, I’m available.
Really good video as always! A quick add on - the ZV E1 does have Timecode (TC/ UB) though it’s a function I’ve never used in any of the cameras..
Good to know, thanks for sharing the info
There are plenty of reviews on Amazon state that the ZVE1 overheats; back to the drawing board😢.
I follow you from when u had 12k your videos are art 🖼️ 🤍me learning little by little tho I have the zv1 as vlogger but need a new one…
Thank you, glad to hear that. Keep at it!
Any recommendations on a gimbal for a Sony zv1m2? Thank you!
It’s crazy how much further ahead cellphone cameras are with software. Lens and sensors are really the only advantages left. I can’t imagine who could compete if Apple decided to make an interchangeable lens camera
u aint right friend all things are diffrent
I mostly shoot in low light, so ZVE1 is a no brainer for me.
They actually are both APSC and shoot well in low light. The FX30 also has a better sensor. I think you’d be good with either
@@thefilmalliance Isn't ZV-E1 a full frame with A7Siii sensor?
sir i am a cinematic photographer i am confused whether to buy fx30 or zv-i1 plz tell me sir
Your wrong about the fx30. Those are based on your sd csrd limit not overheating or snything..it can record up to 13 hrs on any codex period
Hey brother ❤I just bought the fx30, I’m not a photographer just for video purpose, now I’m kinda regretting that for a savings of few hundred dollars I missed out on a full frame sony camera? I kind of worried if fx30 is future proof as of today
Hi - at 9:04 what dolly are you using on the tabletop
awesome review, thanks
Hello, I'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Please, could you guide me on the recording modes of the Sony FX30? Does it also film in Full HD, or does it only film in 4K?
Opa bão
Wow, that's an amazing camera review:) thanks! I've watched them all before purchasing it.
I got 20mm 1.8 lens, wish I had gotten it all earlier before some cool trips I took!! I love it. The size is perfect. The lens is huge tho, but that was my choice :D Wish it wasn't so bulky, it definitely scares some people away when you trying to film in public spaces. autofocus and dynamic stabilization are great.
I have a vlog from London shot entirely on it, if anyone's interested check it out, I color-graded it with some film emulation in Final Cut
what camera/lense was the dialog video filmed with?
Very thorough review, thank you.
You’re welcome
Awesome content Joe thank you as always packed with great info 🤙🏼
Appreciate it!
Black Magic is my preferred
🤔 decisions decisions 😳🤷♂️ but I find it odd the ZV1 ll wasn’t included in this discussion 😝✌️🤙
Between the two, I still can't figure out where I would get the money.
I started out with ozmo pocket for my phone. Work with what you have and be creative. Set goals to move up and in time you will reach it
Osmo action 3 and 4 is quite good for cheaper price
Really good man 👍
Time "proceedes" ? Gaps are "thinner"? Either a weird choice of words or just bad wriging. Time moves, gaps narrow.
How do I get my cameras to explode with dirt?
Great video, well done! 👍
Thank you!
Did the ZV-E1 overheat on you?
You must not have been paying attention. He said it did not
Why didn’t Sony include 1.6 anamorphic desqueeze?
Wow, what a review!
Hey, thanks!
Sir, please introduce a camera for slow motion
ZV-1 HFR mode
@@thefilmalliance Is 960fps necessary for slow motion?
No
@@thefilmalliance Can you introduce an option other than sony zv_1?
i hope the ZV-E1 gets the anamorphic desqueeze and DCI.. right now,, need to use a monitor anyway cause the anamorphic i have is 1.8x and the one I want is 1.5x lol,, smh.. idk why they left those two out
Yea I think that’d be helpful for a lot of ppl
Question? Do you have problem shooting with format XAVC S 4K 10bit 4.2.2 at 120fps?
my experience ... if video is important buy a camera with internal fan. If you are looking for a hybrid camera... buy fx30. Overheating is big issue when shooting videos with mirrorless cameras. I purchased A6700 .. perfect hybrid camera when shooting indoor with ac on. HAHA (videos)
I definitely subbed
Apologies, complete beginner, does anyone know if there would be a way to use the canon dual fisheye lense with either of these sony cameras using some kind of adapter? Am sure lens adapters are more complicated than just simply plug an play...
