Brace yourself, this is going to be a bit long! I originally wanted to start my RUclips channel in 2020, then Covid hit and I haven't gotten it off the ground (Shot a clip in Zion National Park and a clip at home, but haven't watched [hey, everyone's first video are going to be rough!], much less loaded it into Final Cut Pro). I am coming from a photography background, but have zero experience in video. Originally purchased the Canon 77D for it's dual pixel autofocus and wanted a camera dedicated to video recording as I wasn't sure how hard it would be on the sensor and didn't want to put the potential wear and tear on my stills cameras. Then the 4K videos became popular and I love the image quality of the skilled RUclipsrs(Gerald Undone, Dustin Abbott, Potato Jet et al), I decided to upgrade my gear. Having purchased, but not taken delivery of the FX30 (New Item - Coming Soon!) I am anxious to get things started. My dilemma: I have watched you and other RUclipsrs, but really don't have a good grasp on the different Sony recording modes (XAVC HS vs S vs S-I) . I understand the basic concepts of sampling differences (10bit 4:2:2 vs 4:2:0), Codecs (H265 vs H264) and All I vs IPB, but lack a grasp of their practical meaning, aside from the obvious memory storage differences (which makes me wonder if I shouldn't shoot in just 1080 so I don't run out of storage space after every video shoot). The practical side of using S Cinetone vs S Log (Jeven Dovey says he only shoots in Log if he has extremes in the dynamic range of a scene) versus ProRes/ProRes RAW, but have purchased a Ninja V. And lastly, the concept of dual base ISO (I have watch the referenced video) and am left understanding 1) the camera is somewhat optimized to record in one of the two base iso's (so don't waste my time shooting in other ISO's, but maybe there is a hidden advantage if you know what you are doing[from a different video]) and 2) FF cameras do better with low light/noise (A7S2, FX3 or in your case A7IV). What I have not had is that "ah ha" moment, despite watching a myriad of videos. Solutions: You obviously know your audience based on your RUclips statistics, so it may not make sense for you to address these topics in your channel. But I know I would benefit from a Sony FX30 miniseries on the basics of shooting a RUclips video, from initial shooting settings and the practical results of those decisions (Disclaimer, it will be a Playlist series on my channel once it is up, as I think it could be wildly successful, ie documenting my struggles through the process of producing video content.) As a skilled videographer, these are probably pretty elementary topics for you, and explains why nobody I have been able to find on RUclips, has broken it down to the "Dummies" level. As a member of your audience who hasn't begun to crawl yet, the idea of transitioning from crawling to coasting, to walking and eventually running seems like a Herculean task at this stage and has my head spinning. Thanks for listening!
That’s not a bad idea! I generally have a few videos on settings and applications, especially the fx30 settings video, but a series’s that’s specifically RUclips is hard because there’s so many types of RUclipsrs
@@KofiYeboah I will comb through your videos, I know you have the Cine EI on the FX30, but will look for other settings videos. Thanks again for your videos, they are helpful. Cheers!
Hi Kofi thx for the video it's still a hard choice. Ok I'm still at the point of wanting to become a film maker. Ideally wildlife and there well the fx30 helps with the 1.5 crop and the fan but the a7iv is full frame with better low light and the option to go to APS-C. for wildlife I'm looking at the Sigma 60-600 but not sure when that will happen I might also get into real estate video where the a7 iv will be better for wide angel lenses. Now over here in Norway there's only a $315 difference between the to. Before the Pandemic I use to be a pro photographer but lost my safari business and gear due to it but going forward I want to do video 100% which makes the fx3 actually the camera of choice but I think I'm leaning towards the a7 IV as its better priced I think. What do you think based on the price difference for me and for what I'm interested to film ps and being in Norway it's pretty dark in the winter which is another reason for the a7 iv... thx
Is the fx30 really bad with photos? Sounds like it based off of some of the comments. I will likely be taking more photos to start getting some money in but what I really want to do is video, so whilst I am leaning toward the Fx30, the comments are making me re-think it because now I'm thinking the photos will not be good. The actual cameras I'm torn between are the a6400 and fx30. I'm a total newbie so some help deciding would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
I posted photos in the community tab, they aren’t bad tbh, the Sony a7iv has objectively better photos but honestly if you’re video first , in some ways you’ll be ok
Still waiting on my FX30, but the following video relieved my concerns about the FX30 for stills (fortunately, I have a dedicated stills camera, so the choice was far less difficult). Obviously it's not something you would primarily shoot action with, but if you want to shoot stills, it seems more than capable: ruclips.net/video/4lQ4K6hzwcU/видео.html Good luck with your decision and hope you are happy with whichever you choose!
At this point I’m too deep in my professional career to wait for one camera to come out even if it has better features, cause then Sony will drop another camera 6 months later and I would of been better off staying 😂
@@KofiYeboah That's the logical way of doing things. I started out with Canon RF when I went to mirrorless because I thought, I could use the RF lenses on my next upgrade to RED camera. However, somewhere around my career, I switch to Cinema lenses and the reasoning was null.
I was looking into this too but I just can't justify the lack of lens selection. There is just so many lens options and brands to pick from on the Sony line.
I pocketed a list of cameras for me to buy. I'm currently confused between the Sony FX30 or Lumix S5II, which do you think is better? or is there a better of the two in this price class? I'm looking for the best video/cinema dedicated camera. your answer will help me a lot. Thank You

Say you want to use the A7iv as your A Cam and the FX30 as your B Cam can you match the videos out of camera to they look the same or do you have to do all of that in post?
Hello I have the zve10 and I want a higher frame rate camera with zero crop. Can fx30 shoot at 4k 50fps with zero crop? Does the IBIS of the fx30 super smooth?
BTW. Did you not notice that prores from atomos has lower quality in fx30 than internal codecs? Internal uses full sensor and downsamples to 4k. Atomos gets only 4k feed so you have actually micro 4/3 format not APSC. I have both fx30 and zv-e1 (in price of fx3 so for me great deal). But atomos ninja footage on fx30 looks like crap compared to full frame downsampled zv-e1 same for fx3. For me recording with atomos and fx30 is just a waste.
@@KofiYeboah It is not the case of issues but quality. Probably on youtube it is still fine but what happens when you record with atomos with fx30 you are sending 4k sensor data instead of full sensor 6k downsampled to 4k. So you are using even the smaller sensor size like micro 4/3 instead full apsc sensor. It will introduce the additional crop to 1.5x apsc sensor and you have less megapixels available. In the end internal codes look better due to downsampled sensor, sharper and there is lack of additional crop compared to Atomos Raw
I think it is simillar to 60 fps compared to 120 fps as quality goes as in 120 there is also a crop and I am not sure if it downsamples from 6 anymore.
But it is creazy that ZV-E1 vlogger camera has no issues like that. You can even use the auto-tracking features and record internally but to atomos send the full uncroped sensor data. So you have 2 camera angles in one take. Or have active stabe and no stabe footage. You can also have 1.5 clear image zoom recorded internally and 1.0 feed to atomos at the same time.

Yeah sure. Fx30 is E mount the same as a7 series
The Sony A74 is on my list
Ooh good choice 👍🏾✊🏾
Just ordered my A7 IV soooo I guess I’m on that team. But but if the fox 30 shot 10 fps I’d definitely be on that team lol
Yeah for photos the a7iv is unreal
Cheers!
purely on video quality only, whats better A74 or FX30?
You gon have to watch the whole video brotha
What do you think based on the price difference for me and for what I'm interested to film ps and being in Norway it's pretty dark in the winter which is another reason for the a7 iv... thx
I think you’re already set on the a7iv so why not try that !
Yes it’s bad lol
Still waiting on my FX30, but the following video relieved my concerns about the FX30 for stills (fortunately, I have a dedicated stills camera, so the choice was far less difficult). Obviously it's not something you would primarily shoot action with, but if you want to shoot stills, it seems more than capable: ruclips.net/video/4lQ4K6hzwcU/видео.html
Good luck with your decision and hope you are happy with whichever you choose!
thanks for all the replies. Now after watching a few more videos I am leaning toward the 6600 as it seems to be a better all-arounder
Wait for the Panasonic S5IIX. You get full frame that doesn't overheat and more video-centric and cheaper than A7IV
@@Slipsch ahah the pain of realizing our camera choice was a trap 😂
I was looking into this too but I just can't justify the lack of lens selection. There is just so many lens options and brands to pick from on the Sony line.
I pocketed a list of cameras for me to buy. I'm currently confused between the Sony FX30 or Lumix S5II, which do you think is better? or is there a better of the two in this price class? I'm looking for the best video/cinema dedicated camera. your answer will help me a lot. Thank You
I’ve only used the fx30 so I can’t help you as I don’t comment on cameras I’ve never used
I am confused between a7iv zve1 and fx30. For vlogging and cinematic style video. Which should i get
Any of them really
I have a new tamron 28-75mm e mount rxd. Got it last year but havent used it… i wanna get back to videography but dont wanna bring many accessories with me… is the fx30 good enough? Id love to have something with good ibis and low light capabilities… great for conventions, theme parks, short sketches, traveling
Coming from a7 mk1, panasonic g7, and t2i lol
You’ll be fine 👍🏾
Say you want to use the A7iv as your A Cam and the FX30 as your B Cam can you match the videos out of camera to they look the same or do you have to do all of that in post?
They’re pretty friggen close tbh
@@KofiYeboah Thanks! On side note I just bought your LUTS :)
Ha ha "The RUclips Algorithm" nice one Kofi man:)
Ahah algorithm makes us do crazy things
Hello I have the zve10 and I want a higher frame rate camera with zero crop. Can fx30 shoot at 4k 50fps with zero crop? Does the IBIS of the fx30 super smooth?
Im on NTSC so Idk about PAL , I doubt it , the IBIS is fine imo, but Im not treating it like its a gimbal by any stretch
I actually don’t have a ton of problems using the pro res raw when I do 😅
@@KofiYeboah It is not the case of issues but quality.
@@nowyrozdzial it is a more pricey full frame camera the same sensor as the fx3/fx6, which is great 👍🏾!
P.S. TEAM A7IV! Who's with me?!
After that OH on set I can’t be on the same team haha
Well, not me😅 fx30
@@gatisrimss me neither 😂
Team A7SIII ;)
I’ve still never used one !
@@KofiYeboah I got it as a gift from my wife. After I replaced a7c with a7iv. Now I have a7iv and a7s3. You make great videos.
Sony A7m4 Fan
Love it’s photography !
6:17 🤣🤣🤣
✌🏾😂😂
Please speak more slowly. Ha🎉d to follow so fast. But thanks for this.
Try playing back at .7 speed 🫡
I think in low light in crop mode the Sony A74 is better as it has less megapixels to deal with in crop mode than the Sony FX30
I haven’t tried but potentially yah!
simple: the A74 should be liquid cooled.
Ahah
I have the fx30 but think I'll add the iv, i have to take pictures sometimes and using the fx30 even for a quick portrait is really not ideal, especially when I'm set up for interviews. Also i had to shoot an airshow and client was demanding photos aswell, was a real drag. love my fx30 but i think I'm going to add to the collection
