"Or don't have approval for another set of speakers..." great line! Spot on with with wanting quality on pure stereo and using the same speakers on a separate surround sound amp. For me I want to get the most out of my Cyrus setup for pure stereo and get something like an Onkyo for the surround. Thanks for posting, just the nudge I needed to progress this project. Cheers.
Looks like a great box and almost identical to my Beresford TC-7210, which I got here in the UK. I use it to share a pair of Q Acoustic 3030i speakers between a Denon AVR-X4400H (for 5.1) and an Audiolab 6000a (for stereo music). Works brilliantly and solves a genuine problem that I'm surprised more people don't have.
Nice one. Yes, very similar to your Beresford. We mention the 7220 on the review. I don’t think we can get the 7210 in the US as easily. makelifeclick.com/how-to-use-1-set-of-speakers-with-2-amplifiers/
Thank you this is exactly what I needed to know but I have one question what can I do for the subwoofer? I'd like to switch it back and forth from two amps also.
Thank you ...that's the challenge I stumbled upon by adding Vintage Kenwood KA-801(that limits the ability to hook up the center speaker and using TV audio output) just to enjoy music and having Yamaha RX-V550 for hooking up Bluray etc...
Thank you for this great review. Want to have a high quality integrated amp with DAC feed my L/R Floorstanders, but use the same speakers coupled with a dedicated Center for to my AVR for TV/movie watching. This excellent video walk through for this device looks to be exactly what I needed!
Glad it helped! That sounds like the solution you need as it was for me. I still tend to turn everything off before switching between the two just to be extra careful.
I there an affective way to switch between 2 amps and 2 sets of speakers. I work in the back of the living room. Main setup in living room is AV Onkyo TX-NR626 / B&W speakers / TV. Secondary set-up is back of living room Computer with Stereo sound through an older vintage intergrated Onkyo (1983), currently i have a TT setup in the back of the living room but i wish to move that into the main living room setup. The desired set-up would be (1) to add a switcher between the Onkyo AV amp and an old Ion Obelisk (IOB3 + X-pak1) that i want to use with the vinyl. so i can use the B&W speakers for Vinyl or AV. (2) I'd then like to be able to add back in the vinyl to play in the rear of the living room through my Computer speakers, but be able to choose to switch from rear computer audio or the sound coming from the OB3 / Vinyl. is this possible or messy? does this make sense without a diagram?
I think I understand and I think it would work. These are just switches that will route the signal down different paths. Shouldn’t matter how many you use although some will warn if signal loss. Just make sure you don’t fail to load the amps correctly before doing any funny switching combos.
As someone who has the SP71 and Beresford 7210 my advice is forget the SP71 and go for the Beresford. It is slightly more, but bigger with far superior build quality. The speaker terminals on the SP71 and very cheap and too close together. You cannot easily use standard size spades.

I want to add another amp home theater setup so i can use the one for my turntable.I already have another preamp powering the L C R speakers, while the main receiver is powering the surrounds and height speakers. How do i go about connecting the L & R speakers to the switch amp box. Thanks.
Thanks for the video. I love my big surround sound modern Denon for everything except vinyl... it just can't compete with my old silverface dual transformer monster from the golden era. Sick of pulling out cables all the time.
Quadrophonic turntable amp and an Onkyo TX-NR7100... The Onkyo can't do 4x RCA in so I'll need two of these! Only seeing 4 speakers capable in reverse which would work running in reverse but my luck I'll blow up my speakers.
Does it keep a load on the amps when switching to another amp? When using tube amps a load, normally the speakers, must be kept on the amp when it is on. It you forget to turn off a tube amp when switching to the other amp it will be damaged without a load on it. Some of these switch boxes are designed to keep a load on when switched.
Yeah, this has come up before. This is an on/off action therefore there will be a break in current when switching I expect. You're better of turning everything off, switching and then turning on again I believe.

My Onkyo 676 doesn’t have pre outs and I’m wanting to get a stereo amp. So this may be the solution. My concern has been shorting something. Is it completely idiot proof? Yes - pretty much the same. I couldn’t find the Beresford TC-7210 in US. The manufacturer confirmed its off before on switching so that’s all the confidence I could offer. I’ve not had any issues but always turn off both amps before switching as it feels like the wise thing to do.

Not 100% sure but I know this challenge with tube amps. I would not turn on the amp unless I had first switched the amp to be the one active on the speakers. If that makes sense?

Mark - I'm concerned about using any switch because of the possible sound degradation. I connect my integrated amp to floor standing speakers using Cardas wires. While I could connected my amp to the switch box using good wires I feel like their could be degradation by having the switch in the audio chain. What do you think?
Your only as good as your weakest part. And, many people believe, with pretty good reason, that every switch/connector in the chain can drop a % of signal. Hi, great review and explanation. But I am going to throw a curve ball. What if you have 2 Hi-Fi Integrated's that you really like and multiple sources (say at least 3: LP Player, DAC and CD Transport). This switch box will allow you to switch between the 2 Integrated's to 1 Pair of Speakers, that part is great. I don’t think it would be too hard to solve but I expect your need two, or multiple switches/hub. One for the devices and then one output from there to a switch for the amps and then from the amps to the speaker switch. Wouldn’t be pretty and it would be a lot of extra connects.
I just bought the Rega IO to use while I wait for the Zen triode 34I.6 integrated amp. I'm trying to set up a new vinyl system, I can afford 1 Heresy III for now, and intend to be able to get a 2nd by the time the Decware Rachel is ready. Until Then can I run the I/O with just one Klipsch horn speaker in mono?
Hey there, very good video. I wonder if you can answer this? I have a NAD C368 and want to share speakers with my AV receiver. However, NAD are adamant that many speaker switches use 'common ground', typically across the negative terminals I expect. If this unit uses common ground then the NAD will short it's amplifiers. Any comment on this?
I wish I did have an answer on this one. Best to ask the manufacturer - they are pretty responsive via Amazon seller questions. Let us know as that’s interesting. It’s not a powered box so, not sure how that could cause those issues, but I’m not an electrical engineer also...
WiFi signals are quite capable of transferring ok data rates especially if you have a good router. That being said, I’d not choose this if I had a wired option. What I will say is they far exceeded my expectations. They really do sound quite good for music or movies. The other thing to consider is that I use these for surrounds which typically don’t need the same dynamic range as they represent ambient sounds mostly. I have certainly not been disappointed with them and at times smile when they surprise me with the quality they can produce.
Regarding this product: I think i understand how the speakers are connected to the unit and how the 2 amps speaker terminals are connected to the unit. But what I dont understand is that currently I have one source with one set of left and right rca cable providing signal to one amp. How can I switch between amplifiers if only one amp is getting the signal from the one source? With your unit, both amp speaker outs are connected the unit but only one amp input is connect via one set of rca cables feom the source. Sorry for my confusion but any detailed help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Well done and your options really help! I currently have a TC-7240 which I intended to use for a input selector for my tube amp. I also have a second amp (solid state NAD) I wanted to hook up but realized there was no way to use with the one set of speakers. Would the SP-71 provide a solution? So the TC-7240 would select which amp would control the inputs while the SP-71 controls which amp to run the one set of speakers.
Hmmm....would the TC-7220 help there as it handles one more? Your idea will probably work but that is a lot of middleware and consider how much wattage your putting through. The SP-71 has a recommended limit so if your system is huge, just worth a note.
If you have a Tube amp ideally you want something with built in load protection. The SP71 has, but it's cheap build. Go for the Beresford 7210, it also has built in protection for tube Amps but is better quality than the SP71
A great question but nothing I know of. They all require manual switching. Anything I can imagine automatics would require much bigger units with much more expense.
Hey Mark, im looking to power 4x24watt drivers and 4x40 watt drivers all 4ohm. Looking for a stereo setup. Can this be done with a single amp? If not, is there a way i can control it with a single volume knob? Ive done many small electronics builds and am not afraid to solder. Do you have any amp suggestions? Sorry for the lengthy question and thank you for your time.
Hey - thanks for the question. You sound like someone who loves a project! Awesome. To be upfront, the last time I worked with a 4 Ohm driver was on my guitar amp stack so I couldn't recommend anything directly here for home use. I don't see why you couldn't run those on one amp if all are 4 Ohm but I'm not much of an electrical engineer. If you get really stuck I have a great connection who could help you work through it as he is a guru.
If your meaning you have valve vintage receivers? Are you planning on using these for front speakers? Ideally you’d wire them in but these should work ok as the power load is going away from the amp.
Hi. I have the same issue wanting to use my Sansui G-7700 for my music needs and my AV 7.2 receiver for my entertainment both using the same set of speakers. I came across the Russound AB-2.2 switch box that seems to do the job. Perhaps this will be helpful to others.
Hi I have a question Can I use this unit to hook up to AV amp and an integrated vac tube amp. 2nd Q is when I switch amp do I have to switch the amp I am leaving Off
Yeah. This has been asked a few times and the general recommendation is always switch a tube amp off before changing the load. It always needs a signal load and switching with one of these would be risky if done wrong. Hope that helps. 👍🏻🙌🏻
Hello! My car radio have 4×25w output... My new speakers i wanna add is 35 w each one ... So...can i make the 4×25 to 2×50? I mean the 4 outputs connect to 2 .
Hmm. This isn’t really designed for doing a 4 to 2 conversion. If you look at the TC models available on the blog link you should be able to get a 4-2 where as this is a 2-1 (pairs)
Is this switch box can use to both Technics SU-G95 Stereo Integrated Amplifier and Technics AV Control Stereo Receiver SA-GX390 with a pair of Technics SB-A26 speaker?
Hi there. Thanks for this. I am looking to use this to switch between AVR and Rotel 2ch power amp. My power amp is a Rotel RB990bx which is 200W RMS per channel. Will I be able to use this switch for an amp with that kind of wattage? The power rating on this unit is 100W RMS/200 peak per channel. My plan is actually to use the AVR zone 2 pre-outs (doesn't have front speaker pre-outs) to my power amp. Then the AVR can act as sort of a pre-amp to control volume for the power amp when I switch the speakers to the Rotel 2ch power amp. Gonna just use my iPad (with lossless audio files) and dragonfly red DAC via RCA's to AVR aux-in as my input for stereo listening. Does this sound like a plan that can work?
Hmmm. Wow. That’s well thought out. Is it very likely you’ll be cracking the signal to high levels? My concept 40 are up to 125w and I was happy enough with the unit. But, rotel means oomph so you don’t want to limit it. In theory I can see why it wouldn’t work? If I understand you correctly.
Jury is out on this one. I kind of believe if you turn off both, switch over and then turn on it should create the right load for the tube amp but I’m not an expert on valve hifi - guitar valve amps yes, hifi, not so much. 😬
I’ve found a few similar amp selector switches online. But they seem to be max 100w. Do you know if there’s any around that will handle high wattages 2-300w or more?
I believe it has an 80 watt rating? So, yes. It will. Check the specs for exact details. Ultimately, unless your playing at 100 watts of power you wont notice it ergo it should be enough for your listening threshold.
Hello. Great video. What if my first amp is a Yamaha receiver and my second amp is a dedicated two-channel only amp? How would they both hook up to this box? Thanking you in advance.
That would work perfectly. Each would connect to the back and then the stereo speaker wire would go to the speakers. I should do another video demonstrating this. This unit isn’t designed for more than 2 amps running a left and right channel only. On this one you can’t do more channels than that e.g surrounds. Hope that makes sense?
@@MakeLifeClick - So in my situation, I would be wanting both amps (my surround receiver and my two-channel amp) to go to the same two front speakers. Could I do that with this switcher box?
I purchased a similar Linepaudio unit to switch from 2 amps and 4 sets of speakers. The amp selector would cut off one channel and make noise -- very unhealthy. Opening it up, terribly cheap switches with resistors on all. Another review of the product you are showcasing removed the 100ohm resistors as to not damage the amp. I'm very weary of these cheap off-shore switching devices.
@@MakeLifeClick I'll ensure the main power switch is turned off to make sure the amp doesn't turn on by itself, when using the other amp, what kind of risk it involves?
NO, that will damage the amps as electricity will still flow through all wires and into the other amp. Amps are not made to accept power coming into them through the speaker wires
Hi, Thanks for the video. Could this unit be utilized with subwoofers. I'm looking to use the same subwoofer for two different amps (music and movies). Would you know if this is possible, please. Thank you.
Technically, yes, although most LFE and Subwoofer channels run through a single LFE channel output from the amp. This runs stereo connections so If that is how your amp is outputting - L/R stereo out to stereo in, it will. Double check your connections and let us know again if your not sure. Even email us some pictures.
You could use this, although that would mean reversing it. Assuming you have 1 set of speakers still? Also, if your using a DAC, you’re doing it to improve audio quality so interrupting signal on the way through any other switches could be considered a negative? I’d leave the DAC on your best audio performing Amp.
Is there any product to drive 5.1 setup ? I have 2 Yamaha amp with 2 TVs side by side and I'd like to be able to switch between amp depending what TV/Amp setup is being used. reason: I have 13 video games consoles all connected, older with RCA on one side, newer with hdmi on the other side, and depending on what I play, I want to output the sound on a single set of speakers in the room. thanks !
Sounds like this would need multiple units. You could use a multi device to switch for audio/amp but might need another switch for changing the TV over which is common in A/V sets ups for conferences and live events. Sadly, I haven’t worked with those kinds of switches for years so not 100% sure what’s out there. Some googling around running multiplier conference projector set ups might help. Then you’d just need to flick 2 switches.
@@MakeLifeClick I was also thinking of building a switch selector like those old printer switch box we had back in the day. there's a huge switch inside with 4 pole 10 deck (maybe more) available. not sure it would work though.
Hi Arman - Thanks for the question. I've reached out to them in the past when this happens and it's usually just that they are out of stock and there is more coming. You can always contact them from that page and check. I haven't found it anywhere else - or a similar model surprisingly that only does the 2-1. Only the 7220 model which does 2 and 2 here: amzn.to/2U8DEzw which is also out of stock at the moment! People are having issues getting stock during the COVID-19 situation.
Thanks. I’ve been told the same by many people. I’d appreciate anyone that wants to put a list of the parts and estimated labour time to make one. Perhaps a basic wiring diagram would be very interesting for people who want to build there own? Thanks!
@@MakeLifeClick There are two designs on youtube. ruclips.net/video/-7KuBb-qHnM/видео.html ruclips.net/video/4DtpXIA0wts/видео.html I am not that smart so I used two double pole single throw toggles (like the one in the first video) to connected everything directly, no connectors or box. 5 dollars, ugly and two switches instead of one.

Thanks!
I'm going to do a follow up on this video with the wiring video the help people a little more.
Great video. Is there a product that you can hook up 3 or four amps.
I can’t find it now but the TC-7220 had a big brother that had multiple inputs.
makelifeclick.com/how-to-use-1-set-of-speakers-with-2-amplifiers
I need a switch like this but I need to operate it by far, so is there something similar but with a remote control?
Would this work fine in the opposite way? I mean, one amp, two set of speakers?
Theoretically, I believe so.
Are they safe? Have Vintage Receivers.
Nice one - looks like that would do the trick also. Thanks.
Hi I have a question
Can I use this unit to hook up to AV amp and an integrated vac tube amp.
Hey! Sorry for the delay in replying. I believe those are both solid state amps so this will be great for that.
Is it safe to use this device as a switch between tube amplifier and solid state?
Jury is out on this one. I kind of believe if you turn off both, switch over and then turn on it should create the right load for the tube amp but I’m not an expert on valve hifi - guitar valve amps yes, hifi, not so much. 😬
I’ve found a few similar amp selector switches online. But they seem to be max 100w.
Do you know if there’s any around that will handle high wattages 2-300w or more?
Sadly, none that I know of. You must be cranking a lot of volume for more than 100w?
Adcom
Will this hinder the speaker sound or limit the watts?
@@sinatralalawht did you end up buying ?
Gongratulations great job
Very kind. Thank you.
@@MakeLifeClick is this device safe finally after some use? With a power amp 300w per ch would it work?
I purchased a similar Linepaudio unit to switch from 2 amps and 4 sets of speakers. The amp selector would cut off one channel and make noise -- very unhealthy. Opening it up, terribly cheap switches with resistors on all. Another review of the product you are showcasing removed the 100ohm resistors as to not damage the amp. I'm very weary of these cheap off-shore switching devices.
Thanks for the comment. So you do or don’t own this unit? Can’t say mine has any issues like the ones your describing.
How about using the split speaker wires from 2 amps to a same speakers? And I'll power on the particular amp which i want to use ? Is this safe?
That will require you to not forget both amps might be powered on at same time. Technically, yes it works but there is risk.
@@txdraw but I'm using it for a while now, so far going good no issues.
@@MakeLifeClick Thank you very much for your reply,. I'll give a shot if they come back in stock.
@@pgxrpf howd it go, thinking about this as well
Is there a way to use 1 dac for 2 amps?
Could be fun project!
How do i connec 2 pair of hi fi audiophile 300 ohm headphones to one source?
Headphone splitter?
@@MakeLifeClick they are 100ohm at best, the only solution i see for now is to split signal from dedicated separate dac for two separate amps.
Hi Mark,
I see this product is not available on the Amazon anymore. Any idea where else I can buy one?
Hi Arman - Thanks for the question. I've reached out to them in the past when this happens and it's usually just that they are out of stock and there is more coming. You can always contact them from that page and check. I haven't found it anywhere else - or a similar model surprisingly that only does the 2-1. Only the 7220 model which does 2 and 2 here: amzn.to/2U8DEzw which is also out of stock at the moment! People are having issues getting stock during the COVID-19 situation.
Preamp along with a power amp guy.
You are? The Fosi BT20a Pro has a preamp out.
Is it a joke? It is worth $10, build cost probably $3.
Thanks. I’ve been told the same by many people. I’d appreciate anyone that wants to put a list of the parts and estimated labour time to make one. Perhaps a basic wiring diagram would be very interesting for people who want to build there own? Thanks!
@@MakeLifeClick There are two designs on youtube. ruclips.net/video/-7KuBb-qHnM/видео.html

I am not that smart so I used two double pole single throw toggles (like the one in the first video) to connected everything directly, no connectors or box. 5 dollars, ugly and two switches instead of one.
I hate music background when speak so ennoying
Yes. Too loud.
does this switch support Yamaha 803 stereo with 160 watt per channle?
It’s really only rated to 100w per channel so it would work but not perhaps if you’re really using all your 160 watts.
