I don't see your reasoning here.
If you're implying small businesses should be supported to avoid the corporate takeover of the Dollar General branch... Okay, but small business is still more expensive for similar quality products, and the employees of the small business are going to go to Walmart/Dollar General anyway.
I pay more locally, so the local employees can pay cheap/corporate.

@MrLandShark55_55 It's not about the small business buy directly from Walmart; its the employees of the small business buying from Walmart.
I buy groceries at Walmart > Walmart pays its employees > employees buy groceries at Walmart
I buy groceries local (at higher prices) > small business pays its employees > employees buy groceries at Walmart (for lower prices)
If I buy local, at higher prices, that money ends up in Walmarts hands, anyway, because the small business owners and the small business employees aren't going to buy local, themselves.

For those who don't want to do too much reading, I'll keep this short and simple. Family Dollar/Dollar Tree (yes, they call themselves that) increased DT prices to $1.25 because they started paying more. Lowest paid warehouse job went from $14/hr to $18.75/hr + other incentive pays, and raises for everyone to match up with the minimum pay increase. Used to work for the ONLY warehouse they had that shipped to both Dollar Tree and Family Dollar (every other warehouse was one or the other)

Dude I work at a dollar tree, we don't do that anymore. Everything is a 1.25 and we have items that cost more than a dollar now. While you are correct about how the profit margins work, we mainly make our money by selling a bunch of junk food & things that go with party supplies.
Dollar General & Family Dollar hardly sell anything for a dollar anymore.
While it's true that Dollar General tends to stay away from Walmart, Dollar Tree is the exception where they will have a store right next door to Walmart. They make people think twice by being cheaper & less crowded than Walmart.
I literally work at one, and there is a Walmart right next door.

We got this big dollar store franchise in Canada called Dollerama. They sometimes get placed next to big stores. The cheap nature of the items make it easier to simply get a bunch of temporary cheap stuff than to buy big things. Especially for little things around the house that usually don't need to be high quality, like sponges, and travel items that we can't guarantee that it will come back (like little soap/shower items). Even though you can buy a bunch of good quality stuff in the WalMart or Superstore, why bother when you can get the same stuff that wouldn't bother you if it broke?

Yeah, don't people have varying scales of supermarkets and malls with supermarkets depending on how large the place is?
So a tiny town of say, 2 000, would still have a small mall with a supermarket, some stores, a place to eat and some public services for the surrounding area, even if it didn't have the go kart, 7 acre wallmart, and so on?

    • @khill8645
      @khill8645 Год назад

@@HrHaakon "but the rip-off doesn't matter, because there's no competition" was what I was referring to, in many of those smaller towns the dollar stores are one of the only options for many of those goods, no matter how uncompetitive their markup on certain items really is.

Grass is a type of plant with narrow leaves growing from the base. A common kind of grass is used to cover the ground in places such as lawns and parks. Grass is usually the color green. Grasses are monocotyledon herbaceous plants.
The grasses include the "grass" of the family Poaceae. This family is also called Gramineae. The family also include some of the sedges (Cyperaceae) and the rushes (Juncaceae).[1] These three families are not closely related but all of them belong to clades in the order Poales. They are similar adaptations to a common life-style.
The true grasses include cereals, bamboo and the grasses of lawns (turf) and grassland. Uses for graminoids include food (as grain, sprouted grain, shoots or rhizomes), drink (beer, whisky), pasture for livestock, thatching thatch, paper, fuel, clothing, insulation, construction, sports turf, basket weaving and many others.
Many grasses are short, but some grasses can grow tall, such as bamboo. Plants from the grass family can grow in many places and make grasslands, including areas which are very arid or cold. There are several other plants that look similar to grass and are referred to as such, but are not members of the grass family. These plants include rushes, reeds, papyrus and water chestnut. Seagrass is a monocot in the order Alismatales.
Grasses are an important food for many animals, such as deer, buffalo, cattle, mice, grasshoppers, caterpillars and many other grazers. Unlike other plants, grasses grow from the bottom, so when animals eat grass they usually do not destroy the part that grows.[2] This is a part of why the plants are successful. Without grass, soil may wash away into rivers (erosion).

I'm not even in the US or even encountered or even entered these one-dollar stores in my life. I always knew from the video skits or sketches where USA always have these,
"I'll buy this for a dollar."
    "This costs 1.15 dollars."
    "What? 1.15?"
    "Yeah... Because of tax."
"What?! But they are advertised for a dollar!"
I am from the Philippines and I never heard about saying tax from purchases on grocery stores or shops unless it was for the government so we have to pay taxes.
