The deep voice and the high pitched voice are the same singer. He is one of the most legendary singers of all time!
Thee METAL god.
Try Victim of Changes and you hear him hit a full range
Or even try, A touch of evil
Top 2 Heavy Metal vocalists are: Ronnie James DIO and Rob Halford!
Aka the godfather
Still the greatest Heavy Metal song ever written in my opinion, it just has everything that a Heavy Metal song should have, I don't think I'll ever get tired of this one.
Top 5 for sure, man.
Have you heard Death's cover of this? It's equally as intense and deserves a listen if you haven't heard it.
But Priest's purest album is "Angel Of Retribution".
Still to this day my favorite guitar solo ever!
fuck ye its easily the best, even better than holy wars and better than anything both metallica and maiden made
This is definitely one of the heaviest songs they have, the whole Painkiller album is a bit different than the rest of their catalogue. Lots to check out with them, Halford is one of the greatest metal vocalists ever.
Y'all still just metal newborns ;)
Agreed! 💯 the should've started with even Electric Eye, but Painkiller....Not a way to introduce them, Way too much for a 1st song!
When I was a kid, I started on thrash metal. Painkiller was the only JP album I really enjoyed
When this album first came out and I heard this track, I was like... "Whoah! This is Judas Priest?!" Yeah... it was a bit of a change for them.
One of the heaviest songs? Don't forget about the whole Jugulator album. Although it's true that Painkiller is THE iconic Judas song.
Painkiller is Trash Metal album. Or Speed Metal.
Rob Halford one of the best vocalist in metal. And yes, the solo was all guitar
Not two different singers, one guys just extremley talanted.
Judas Priest has been around since the '70's. Their library is HUGE. They stopped for a stretch when Rob Halford was off doing his own thing, with Fight and other solo stuff. But they got back together and still kick ass today. Painkiller is a classic for sure. But others you may wanna check out are, Breaking The Law, You Got Another Thing Coming & Ram It Down. Love the channel and your reactions. Keep up the GREAT work! \m/
60's, actually. Formed in 1969.
1969
o.O Am assuming you are forgetting about Tim 'Ripper' Owens fronting the band in Rob's absence for the albums 'Jugulator' and 'Demolition' ... unless you do not count that period as being Judas Priest.
@@uoabigaillevey that was some of their heaviest shit
@@uoabigaillevey and when Halford came back, Ripper went and tried to fill Matt Barlow's shoes in Iced Earth. He has a knack for being put into a damning situation. But I never really cared for Ripper so meh.
Some Priest suggestions:"Electric Eye","Victim of Changes"(Unleashed In The East version),"Children of the Sun","Hell Bent For Leather","Rapid Fire","Desert Plains","The Sentinel","Wheels Of Fire".
And metal meltdown
The Green Manalishi!!! Freewheel Burning!!
Victim of Changes studio …. sorry
Don't forget breaking the law.
@@sicklyapple4496 Please, can't we forget Breakin' the Law? And Children of the Sun . . . that is the weakest track on Firepower. Lone Wolf is way, way better. Between the Hammer and the Anvil!!!!!!!!
Definitely check out their older and more melodic songs first like "Victim of changes", "Beyond the realms of death" or "Dreamer deceiver". They are mellow, cool, timeless and beautiful. Masterpieces.
I second this. When you start with Judas Priest, you don't want to start with Painkiller.
3rd this should probably start with "sad wings of destiny "album
4th this. Fantastic album the whole way through.
Yes, these.
Of all the stuff that Judas Priest has done, Painkiller is one of the more difficult ones to start with... It is like a craft beer, it takes several sips to get used to the differences from their other stuff and take in all the nuances... Many others have already stated many other songs that are more "signatory of the whole Judas Priest phenomenon and why they have been so influential to many of the bands you two love.
Painkiller is them showing all the New guys how to do it!
Can't agree with this more. The very first time I heard Painkiller I wasn't too into it, but now it's one of my favourite songs and the song that is the definition of metal as far as I'm concerned.
Glenn's solo sends chill's down the spine......respect for the man.
Amazing that this is the only like from you.
Been a student of Judas Priest since 1978. You haven't even scratched the surface of the contributions they've made to metal in almost 50 years ! Please go back to their early years and be schooled and enjoy them
The fact that you can listen to Metal and Rock music for years and come across something different consistently is why people are die hard fans of the genres. Even your favorite band has the ability to blow you away with something completely different on their next album keeps us on the edges of our seats.
This is pure heavy metal
Whoa. That’s a bit more *INTENSE* than Breaking The Law & Another Thing Coming music videos I watched repeatedly on MTV as a youth. Enjoyed your reaction as always!!
You should hear metal meltdown
Yeah one of these older tunes should have been their first not this song.
Those high notes during the solo are absolutely euphoric
Honestly, I didn't love this song the first time I heard it, but I do now. It is one of the heaviest songs ever made. If you're put off, don't be. Give Priest another chance because Rob Halford is a great singer with a lot more range than is displayed here. And the band is super talented.
I agree. The first time i listened it was a bit weird, but as time goes by this song was growing on me.
no where close to being heavy but its a great song
Seeing Lex's reaction to the guitar solos, maybe Brad should pick up playing the guitar lol
This is just one song from 1990. Priest has been around since 1969, recording their first album in 1974. Their 70's stuff is legendary. Their early 80's stuff is classic. They have bluesy stuff and super metallic stuff. Judas Priest is on the Mount Rushmore of Metal. They are right there with Black Sabbath, carrying the torch even further.
For more chill Priest, check out:
Run Of The Mill
Victim Of Changes
Dreamer Deceiver
Here Come The Tears
Love Bites
Just love how Lex shines up like a child on christmas day everytime a guitar is shredded. You might not know this but...You´r a metallhead girl!
Rob (the singer) is still kicking ass today. The did a song with Five Finger Death Punch called lift me up that I love.
He also did a song with *In this Moment* "Black wedding"
Yep. Going to see them live again in October
Glenn and K.K. shredding my ears for 40 plus years and worth every ring still in my head, thanks for reacting to one of the best
The whole "Painkiller" album is a masterpiece. All killer, no filler.
As a Priest fan for nearly 40 years, you two should've watched the video of Painkiller. The video is just as wild. One of the greatest songs ever written and recorded in the 1990's.
The video I find just shows from when the music kicks in. Am I misrembering, or was there a part where a guy is stuck in traffic on the freeway?
One of the things I love about music and more so Heavy Metal is the history. Judas Priest was one of the British wave of new heavy metal bands. Halford is widely considered one of the best metal singers of all time a long with Bruce Dickinson and Ronnie James Dio. If you want to really hear Halford’s range check out the song Victim of Changes.
Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver and Victim of Changes are two perfect songs to show what a wide vocal range Rob has then Painkiller is one for later on when you are used to his voice.Glad Lex could still get into this though headbanging away its such an epic thise soloscare fire and tremendous performance on the drums too from Scott Travers
If you want to see how insane of a vocalist Halford is, check out "Dreamer Deceiver" high ends.. low ends.. it just has everything
Judas Priest is probably the first true heavy metal band. They were the first band to completely remove blues from the music.
Unless you count the 70s stuff 😅
Wasn’t completely removed imo, Priest has many bluesy riffs
@Depeche Robb yeah, the first couple albums had a few bluesy riffs, but starting with Stained Class they were gone for good. Definitely the first album Rolka Rolla wasn't the representation of what they would become. Sad wings of destiny and sin after sin evolved further into pure metal.
The singing was all by the same person. Judas priest has a wide variety in their sound. Their first few albums in the 70s were hard rock before they graduated to metal in the late 70s. The Painkiller album was their heaviest stuff to date and came out in 1990. You should check out Dreamer Deceiver/ Deceiver from their second album released in 1976 to You've Got Another Thing Coming from 1982 to get a better idea of their range. Rob Halford can has the vocal range of an opera singer and can crush low notes as well as high. He is known as one of the best metal vocalists of all time. Peace and love.
Even though this song is over 30 years old, I'd say that it's probably more representative of what the band sounds like today than what came before it.
One thing that I love about Judas Priest is that they are a perfect example of how accepting the metal community really is. They started out as almost a psychedelic blues rock band and now, 50 years later, Rob Halford is known as The Metal God. Also, when he came out as gay in the 1990's, the reaction from metal fans was largely one of love and not homophobia.
Gay or straight, anyone who can belt it out like him deserves nothing but respect.
dont wanna sound like the correcting guy , but this song is 43 years old :`)
@@bennybtv5912 It’s 30 some years old. I was nearly 20 when it came out and I’m only 50 now.
Painkiller album is realesad in 1990.
Actually, tomorrow is albums 22 birthday
33
This song came out in 1990 to prove they can still rock just as hard as the thrash metal bands at the time.
Rob Halford performed this with BABYMETAL 5 years ago and it kicked ass.
He's widely considered the Metal God
No it didn't. It sounded awful
@@StaticYonder Thank you, I can't believe so many Halford worshippers think that atrocity was good lol
@@thegreatsoutherntrendkill272 They're deafend by their Metal God Dogma. I think hes amazing and I include myself among his so called worshipers, but I know crap when I hear it
You have just discovered the greatest Heavy Metal band of all time, along with the greatest Metal singer, which is why he is known as The Metal God. His vocal range is one of the best in the business. It was JP that introduced the world to the image and meaning of Heavy Metal, as they were the first to incorporate the leather and studs into their outfits that are so well known today. They also elevated the tempo into faster beats, for at that time Metal was more known for a doomy sound and not the fast tempos of today. You guys really need to delve into their vast and different albums of their career. Keep defending the faith.
Absolutely the best voice in metal
if there was ever a definition for Heavy Metal at its purest,
this song and album are definitely it
Wow, you two jumped right into the deep end going straight to this one.
"Green Manalishi (Live) and Diamonds and Rust (Live) are a must...Seen them twice Live and their stage set up and stage presence is world class. "Love Bites" is bad to the bone as well.
They have many more hits from the 80's that are great like all of Screaming for Vengence and Defenders of the Faith and Turbo
This was the opening track off the album by the same name, the first to feature the then-new drummer Scott Travis, and what a first impression he gave by opening with that monster drum intro.
This band is one of the founders of modern metal and also who introduced leather fashion to the genre. :) The song is one of their most iconic ones but i wouldn't say it's that representative for their music in general.
I heard that they wrote it as an outlet for all the bad energy they generated efter a friend of theirs died, that's why it's so intense.
Saw Judas Priest on this tour, probably one of the loudest concerts I have been to. This whole album is flipping amazing.
Before Judas Priest, in bands that had 2 guitars players, when one whould do the lead (melody & solo), the other one would keep the rythm with is riff. Priest are known to be the first to go with 2 leads guitars at the same time!
The voice you hear is just one sample of the Metal God. Rob Halford has an amazing range, and is one of the best metal singers ever. Thats why he is called the metal god.
The lead singer Rob Halford did a version of this with BabyMetal among other songs. That’s a combo!
Priest is a great band. Saw them live in Toronto Canada in the eighties and Rob Halford has the most epic voice in metal. Definitely check out the live versions of their songs from that era.
If Rob Halfords voice doesnt capture you in this song, you need to rewind and start again, he is amazing with his range.
A version of why this album, Rob noticed Metallica, Pantera, Megadeth and others and wanted to be out ahead!! NAILED IT!!!!!!!
I thought I was alone in loving this song best of Judas Priest's work. Nice to know it got lots of votes. :)
This is one of my favorite songs of all time it jams from start to finish and the official music video makes it that much more Intense....PAIN!!!!
One of my favorite bands of all times. Love your channel ❤️❤️❤️
Definitely not Techno metal. It does sound different than their other works, but they are one of the best metal bands out there. Celebrating their 50th anniversary tour this year. If I had to categorize it, it would be classic metal.
I love watching you two. You guys are awesome. Thank you for being awesome.
this song is heavy metal in its purest form
Rob is the certified Metal God. Praise be to him.
The absolute definition of heavy metal
Priest threw everything into Pain Killer, what a trip, amazing.
I FN love this song.
1990, which is practicly the 80s still... lol
Lex got the vibes. The smile on your face says everything. :)) Keep listening metal friends! ;D Greets from Germany, Holger
The drums are insane.
Respect the GOAT of heavy metal Rob Halford, who sang all the vocals in this song. Without this man a ton of bands either wouldn't exist or would have sounded completely different without his influence. \m/\m/
It's all the same voice, the incomparable Rob Halford. Trust me Lex, there is plenty of Judas Priest that you would love. I recommend listening to Dellivering the Goods." Great groove, great riffs and great guitar solo
She was vibing to this. Awesome!
That face Brad makes lol, I knew it was coming as soon as Rob started singing this one "priceless" as always loved your review.
I love you for trying.... grew up with these epics
This is one hell of a song to start out with. They really turned it up to 11 for this album.
That techno-like sound you hear in the guitars is made with a special technique called "pinch harmonics" and can sound very awesome! This song uses them really a lot but they're everywhere in metal
Halford (singer) in his prime was a six-octave phenomenon. Here, in 1990, he was on a decline after singing for Judas Priest for over fifteen years. But he still had it. Going higher than any man had gone before. And you were alive and witnessed it.
I’m seeing them live for the first time in October. To say I’m excited would be an understatement 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
I saw them in the 80's and again on their tour recently right before the pandemic shutdown. You're in for a treat, they still bring it! Enjoy!!!🤘
@@JimK03. I probably won’t be able to sleep the night before lol. Been waiting for this for almost 40 years
YES. LOVE IT
A couple of songs that Rob (singer) sounds a little different "United", "Metal Gods" ,"Living after midnight" off of the album British Steel. Solos and his voice maybe more to you guys liking...😎
oh I love priest soooooo much, thanks guys
I KNEW Brad was going to LOVE this song! lol 🤣🤣🤣
This was one of the best solos of time, probably also the most technical also the the deep voice is the same guy lol, if you guys wanna hear something less intense check Breaking The Law 🔥
Oh snap...ya done went and got yourself a real banger this time. I wrote this before I watched, so I can't wait to see your reactions. 🤘
Funny you mention you were expecting the "growl". I've seen Halford, the singer, doing more like that during live performances.
4:17 The smile on her face... WAUZERS !!
Y'all have a lifetime of music ahead of you, enjoy...
love your sweet lady, she hears all, and blown away, love my childhood first time hearing from folks later.....
awesme.
4:25 - DYING!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Lexi is all, “It’s ok, Brad. You’ll be alright.” 🤣🤣🤣
YES!!!!!!!Judas Priest!!!!!i freakin love this kickass band!
Great band with a huge repertoire of music. I think they have like 18 or 20 albums and everyone sounds different than the previous one.
Check out their song The Sentenial or the obscure but great Worth Fighting for.
Definitely do BEYOND THE REALMS OF DEATH soon. Best Power Ballad of all time. PRIEST , PRIEST , PRIEST!!!
before i even watch , ohhh lord yall getting into some good shit , enjoy
I've got tickets to see Priest next month and I'm pretty hyped to see these legends! Check out Rock Hard, Ride Free, it's a lot more chill, but still metal AF!
I love you Lex!!!
it always makes me laugh watching these Judas Priest Painkiller reaction videos ... hehe
Haha, your girl was feelin' it. 😂 That was cute.
Banger !
Well thank you for listening to one of the most legendary bands of all time. Punishing song indeed!!!!!❤️
Long live to metal gods !!! 👏🤘🎸🙋🏻♂️
That solo though!! Ahhhhhhhh
Definitely have to give props to guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing, they always rocked so hard together! Keep On Rockin'
This was their comeback album and this song was their type of thrashing, rest of album is killer no filler.
This was middle of their 50 years ,like their 10th Album 30 years ago . 1990 I saw show in Tampa area and the whole Auditorium shook , especially when he rode his Harley with a microphone on stage. By far best show , when he was good they were GREAT.
You have to watch the video.....adds so much to the song!!!!!!!
1990 kicked off with several legendary albums, this is one of them
"that second guy that came in" uh no, thats the same guy! Rob Halford! my favorite song of theirs that doesnt seem to get much play is Ram it Down, try that one on for size.
Listen to "Victim of Changes" by Judas Priest - an early classic by the band.
The most metal roller coaster ride of a song ever
You guys should hear King Diamond sing haha. Mercyful Fate is god tier metal too, inspiring the likes of Metallica and Megadeth amongst plenty others.
January 15th,1991, a Wednesday. My senior year of high school. Finals week,My first concert. Megadeth and Judas Priest. Rust in Peace/Painkiller tour. Heard arguably two of the best metal songs ever written live...Holy Wars... the Punishment Due and Painkiller
Classic stuff right here. You can't go wrong with Judas.
Lex is such a happy metal girl
Judas Priest kicked ass, one of the best metal bands ever. They came from Birmingham, England like Black Sabbath. Their album British Steel is an absolute classic
