I was at Talladega when Marty Robbins blew Richard Petty's doors off down the front stretch.A lap later he pitted and they loaded his car on the hauler and left through the tunnel.Years later during a roundtable discussion he said he was using an illegal engine to mess with Richard and left before NASCAR could inspect his car.
That's hilarious. From stories I've heard from people who went to the fairgrounds, he could wheel a car pretty well for a guy who did it more as a passion than a career
Apparently since he ran 15 MPH faster than in qualifying NASCAR wanted to give him a special prize. He declined, and his cheating is the reason why. He just wanted to feel like what it would be like to run op front. 😂
