Unbelievable live performance. No tricks, no gimmicks, no "enhanced" vocals, just sheer talent. Love Marty's guitar playing and his singing is exquisite. Super trio harmonies and what else do you want?!!!!
Not as simple. This was a staged performance on film. Marty Robbins is not playing the Mexican Guitar and I have serious doubts he is actually singing. There are just not enough live action and it sounds exactly like the recorded track. I'm just saying because I play guitar and nothing live from music to vocals ever sounds exactly the same as the recorded track that you here on the radio or albums. On this song clearly Marty Robbins is playing rythem guitar and making a show of it for the Camara. Then you have the Mexican or Spanish guitar with individual notes playing the lead. Just watch it and listen again. Not to mention the lead sounds more like softer sounds of vinyl strings instead of metal.

While I generally agree with you, not all country is bad nowadays. At least some people seem like they are trying. For example, Colter Wall does a decent job paying homage to Waylon and Johnny Cash with his style of music.
I remember as a young child during Christmas time. A snow storm raging outside , The Fireplace warming the living room, and my Dad playing this song on the record player. Don Winters, one of his backup singers, was the husband of my Girl Scout leader. Him being in Marty Robbins' band made her a celebrity too! Went to school with their son Dennis. They were all such nice people.
My dad absolutely loves the song! He is 90 yrs young. EVERY time I play it for him he says that it is the best song ever written. He listens intently to every word and will gladly hear it again and again and again.

Listened to this in my 1998 VW beetle in 1999'sh or so on the way home to my divorced wife with my kids, I always played this on the ride there and we would sing the songs. Time Life Western Classics CD. Memories. I bet the kids remember it too, lol
People should know who was backing up Marty Robbins in this performance. Doing the harmonies with him are Bobby Sykes and Jim Glaser (of The Glaser Brothers) and playing the beautiful Spanish guitar fills but not on camera is Marty's long time lead guitarist Grady Martin.
I’m not particularly a Country and Western fan. My favorite musical group is Rammstein. This video dropped into my recommendations. This guy, and this song are incredible. And, the backup singer is strapped!
Marty was a hell of a singer, so I am glad you enjoyed this song. But he actually transitioned into Country music, he was originally a rock singer. One of his biggest hits (at least in rock) was White Sport Coat (and a Pink Carnation). Another artist to do the same was Conway Twitty. He had a few big rock hits around the same time as Marty's, the biggest probably being Make Believe..., and then he too transitioned to Country music.
@Baby Blu3 Technically, I believe El Paso is considered a "gunslinger ballad," but yeah, it was deep for it's time and holds up well for a song well over 60 years old.

I came to see Marty live because I've recently been into his music. What a coincidence I found this on his birthday! Happy birthday Marty. Thanks for the stories!
In 1968 I met Marty Robbins. I worked in a tour office on Hollywood Blvd. , Los Angeles, California. Not exactly Country. He asked me directions . To a particular spot. As he left, I said: " I sure like your" Gunfighter Ballads"albums. He was pleased. And surprised. That I recognized him. He had a reason to ask directions. His "star" on Hollywood Blvd. is in front of a clothing store. He asked me where the clothing store was. Later, Marty came back to the tour office to say "hello". He saw his "Star" on the sidewalk. I saw a "living Star".
Born in El Paso. Going to take a trip to west Texas in a year or so. Just might fall in love with a Mexican girl. I will try not to get shot. Marty Robbins is a national treasure.
More than a quarter of a century ago I was stationed at Fort Bilss in El Paso when I was a young 2nd Lieutenant. It was in that fall of 1996 when I met and fell in love with the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. Due to a quirk of fate, I did not find the courage to make her my wife, although I believe today that she wished for it. Now, 27 years later, I am a "full bird" Colonel. I have never been married. And not a single day passes by on which I don't think of my beautiful Angel and those days back in El Paso.

"El Paso"
Out in the West Texas town of El Paso
I fell in love with a Mexican girl
Nighttime would find me in Rosa's cantina
Music would play and Felina would whirl
Blacker than night were the eyes of Felina
Wicked and evil while casting a spell
My love was deep for this Mexican maiden
I was in love but in vain, I could tell
One night a wild young cowboy came in
Wild as the West Texas wind
Dashing and daring, a drink he was sharing
With wicked Felina, the girl that I loved
So in anger I
Challenged his right for the love of this maiden
Down went his hand for the gun that he wore
My challenge was answered in less than a heartbeat
The handsome young stranger lay dead on the floor
Just for a moment I stood there in silence
Shocked by the foul evil deed I had done
Many thoughts raced through my mind as I stood there
I had but one chance and that was to run
Out through the back door of Rosa's I ran
Out where the horses were tied
I caught a good one, it looked like it could run
Up on its back and away I did ride
Just as fast as I
Could from the West Texas town of El Paso
Out to the badlands of New Mexico
Back in El Paso my life would be worthless
Everything's gone in life; nothing is left
It's been so long since I've seen the young maiden
My love is stronger than my fear of death
I saddled up and away I did go
Riding alone in the dark
Maybe tomorrow, a bullet may find me
Tonight nothing's worse than this pain in my heart
And at last here I
Am on the hill overlooking El Paso
I can see Rosa's cantina below
My love is strong and it pushes me onward
Down off the hill to Felina I go
Off to my right I see five mounted cowboys
Off to my left ride a dozen or more
Shouting and shooting, I can't let them catch me
I have to make it to Rosa's back door
Something is dreadfully wrong for I feel
A deep burning pain in my side
Though I am trying to stay in the saddle
I'm getting weary, unable to ride
But my love for
Felina is strong and I rise where I've fallen
Though I am weary I can't stop to rest
I see the white puff of smoke from the rifle
I feel the bullet go deep in my chest
From out of nowhere Felina has found me
Kissing my cheek as she kneels by my side
Cradled by two loving arms that I'll die for
One little kiss and Felina, goodbye

My daddy gave me the gift of a country music purist, playing the vinyl.
That cowboy could drive a race car too!
Cory, don’t the words stick though, yes I remembered every word my self when it first started playing, and I’m 76. Long live REAL Country & Western:
cool i learned it also at a young age
When I first heard Marty Robbins sing this song in the early '70s I thought it was the best ballad ever sung. I still do.
El Paso the first number one song of
Don Winters, one of his backup singers, was the husband of my Girl Scout leader. Him being in Marty Robbins' band made her a celebrity too! Went to school with their son Dennis. They were all such nice people.
This western ballad was released in 1959. It's been pretty popular since then and has been sung on TV variety shows, oldies radio, etc.
Best cowboy ballad ever written and performed.
Agreed. Marty is by far one of my favourite artists of all time.
I actually like "Feleena" song more.
Not too far from it....
I have loved this Song since I was a little kid.
He actually painted a picture for you to see in your mind as he sung !!!❤️
My dad absolutely loves the song! He is 90 yrs young. EVERY time I play it for him he says that it is the best song ever written. He listens intently to every word and will gladly hear it again and again and again.
Always loved this song ever since I was a kid, still a great one to listen to!
My birthday, 10 yrs old in 1960 - asked for and received this song, my first 45 rpm record! I still have it :)
my grandpa loves this I'm showing him my new speaker
A man, his guitar, and a great story. Absolutely one of the best songs ever written, be it country or any other genre.
Love this guy, I seen him live when I was in the Army, sgt Mario abalos
it's about four in the am and for some odd reason this song just popped in my head. haven't heard this in years. missed it.
Without a doubt one of the best country western songs ever written.
The lilt of the singing one syllable words “wind” and “dark” and “tied” and”side” just so beautiful
This is an absolute American treasure! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️
This is my favorite Marty Robbins song of all time. Im 59 so i grew up, in Texas, listening not just to him but all classic country greats. Im a corrections officer at a Texas state prison going on nine years.
My love is stronger than my fear of death....powerful words...
Ive loved this since I was little back in the 60’s
Me too!! I always thought it was an old old song from the 1900s.... little did i suspect it was a Brand New Marty Robbins creation!!
My Daddy loved Marty Robbins so much. Any time I hear one of his songs I think of my daddy and smile.
Hello😊
Listened to this in my 1998 VW beetle in 1999'sh or so on the way home to my divorced wife with my kids, I always played this on the ride there and we would sing the songs. Time Life Western Classics CD. Memories. I bet the kids remember it too, lol
This is one of the greatest songs ever written I hope everyone listening appreciates it..🔥
Decades later it’s obvious why my dad revered Mr. Robbins.
He is a legend.
I grew up on this kind of music all the old greats are gone now & all we have are their recordings ! May they all R.I.P
All magical music from Marty. His voice became better with age. How can that be? Lierally the best music ever created.
Ich hörte diesen Song mit meiner Schwester immer wieder. Schönste Jugenderinnerungen❤
Memorized the entire, Gunfighter ballads and trail songs when I was 12.
Im 46 now.
Love his music!
As did I, I'm 57. My parents had this album, what a classic
That my favourite that old song thanks
Marty Robbins was an American icon. Full time country singer and part time NASCAR driver. If that ain’t country I’ll kiss your ass.
Marty was a genius . A master of song in every way.
Hi👋
What a beautiful voice I love this song nice memories. How are you Gladys ?
Genius?? No he wasn’t. Lol
I’m not particularly a Country and Western fan. My favorite musical group is Rammstein. This video dropped into my recommendations. This guy, and this song are incredible. And, the backup singer is strapped!
marty also has a revolver on his hip if you look closely when the camera pans around 1:50
@@lukeguido4470 my dad absolutely loved White Sportcoat. Unfortunately for my ears, his singing was horrible.
@@lukeguido4470 Yep! 😁
One of the best stories ever told right here.
You could literally tell this to your grand kids any decade the 1950s or the 2050s.....
Such a great story.
Oh that wonder
wonderful voice.
Hello Joyce 👋 Simple music can make you sing, a simple hug can make you feel, better, simple things can make you happy, I hope my simple hello will put a smile on your face..
my dad liked this song... it reminds me of my old man
My Dad liked it, too. I used to sing it for him.
The first overseas concert that I saw in the 60's in Wellington,New Zealand. I am now 76 years old and still remember the concert and meeting him after at the hotel he was staying in. Still one of my favourite artists singing country , ballads and island music.
that´s just pure talent
Marty overcame a bad childhood. His songs will endure.
Great singer
R.I.P. marty
The great Marty Robbins ! My parents had this record. Thanks Mom and Dad ! Nobody Better !
59 two decades and a little There have not been to many Marty's in that time. This will never get old
Einer meiner ersten Countrysongs, die mich faszinieren.
There’s a rabbit hole to go down if you really look
Love the fact that the dude behind the counter is smoking a pipe. Priceless.
The off-stage musicians are pretty good, too.
I think that the gentleman, in the hat working behind the counter is Tex Ritter.
Hello😊
I remember Bob and Peggy who knew Marty Robbins and many a night I was at their house listening to the autographed records , I miss you both.
Happy Heavenly 99th Birthday Marty Robbins September 26 1925 - December 8 1982
I've always loved this beautiful song. It definitely reveals some of Texas finest history.
As a child I used to listen to this song on my dad’s record player and it always brought me to tears. Now it’s a joke that if you want to get me emotional all you have to do is turn on El Paso. What an amazing performance.
I spent two years in the Army in El Paso, this song reminds me my time there. How I wish I could turn the clock back.
Hello how are you doing today…?
I agree. First song to make me cry. I was 7 or 8 years old.
are you kidding, wild as the west texas wind!
I was listening this when I was 14 and now that am 18..it just felt like yesterday ❤
My best friends Ben, Jace, and Devan brought me here
