Glen Campbell was the real deal. A real country boy. Grew up the son of a sharecropper in Arkansas picking cotton and working hard on the farm. He said he was inspired when he was young by the guitar playing of Django Reinhardt. I'm deeply amazed by Glen Campbell.
@@DonGill-cu5mo It is the most fantastic version of Gentle on my Mind that Glen ever did!!! I wish he'd showed off his amazing talent on his albums and on his TV show.
Glen Campbell is truly and American treasure. In fact all those folks are American treasures. Rest well brother! We love and miss you! Ciao!! Benedica!!!
No sorry, I don't agree they're 'mesmerised'. That's a non-muso's observation. Those singers, artists and musicians are enjoying it out of recognition....recognising a fellow muso who's speaking their language. Not unlike someone enjoying a friend's re-telling of a joke they already know.
In his time (just like Brent Mason), Glen Campbell was the #1 Studio Guitar Player not only in Tennessee but also with the "Wrecking Crew" in California. Glen Campbell was Nationwide!
If I remember correctly, while he was a studio musician many headliners encouraged him to record his own music. That he had way too much talent to be in the background.
And then there's Chet Atkins, sitting politely, and quietly thinking, " childs play.". (He could play that at 10 years old, with his hands tied behind his back.) But I still like Glenn.
This is one of the most flawless, understated, and eloquent live performances I have ever seen. Clearly a master of his craft. And I'm not even a country music fan
Where are you a fan of the Beach boys? Elvis? Paul Simon? How about the monkeys? The smothers Brothers? He also played for other bands like Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash and numerous others before he ever went out on his own. A member of the famous wrecking Crew. Known as the best in the world at what they do
Matteo Macuso is flawless. Glen is not, but he's a giant where Matteo is a kid yet to discover what Glen discovered doing all those sessions with the Wrecking Crew - make every note sing.
Imagine being in a room full of the absolute best musicians and singers in the world and making all their jaws drop with how good you are, without even breaking a sweat. That's Glen Campbell in a nutshell.
I sure do miss him. I fell in love with his music at 14. I remember listening to the DJ and he started making fun of him over the radio. He kept calling him Glen Cowbell. I was so angry that I called the station and chewed out the DJ. He didn't stop. Oh well, I was 16 and in love. I'm 68 now and still love his music. RIP Mr. Campbell!
I will tell you that even as good and successful as Glen was believe me, he was intimidated by the fact he was on camera and in front of his peers. There was one missed note and he got through it but you could see it on his face for 1 second. A true professional!
No kidding jamming out with him would of been outta this world I'd be like take it away and he'd look up at me an say with a sigh oh I guess so can U play something more challenging 😂lol 😢jk
I love Country music and all the fabulous artists who sing and perform for us. I'm not an American citizen, but when I listen to these beautiful songs, it's the way I see America: love, friendship and freedom. A wonderful, country. Thanks so much for this compilation of songs that bring back sweet memories.
Thank you for appreciating this great music and the musicians that we love so much. I'm happy that people in other countries appreciate this music. It belongs to the world.
Most of the younger generation singers can't really sing nor play any musical instruments well. Those were the days.... Guess we'll never see them again.
Yes. Got his albums. Watched "It'll be me" documentary many many times. Had to delete it, you know why... As an Elvis collector I gotta add Elvis realized he could not have Glen in his band. Tell's enough...
One of the finest guitarists who ever put hand to strings. Not given the credit he deserves in my opinion. They don't make 'em like the Rhinestone Cowboy any more.
@@thesixshooter6506 He was truly unique and awesome when it come to pick’in a guitar! Had an awesome amazing voice too. He and Jerry Reed never got the recognition they deserved I don’t think.
@@ronniealexander8967I totally agree. I'm not as familiar with Jerry Reed, but Glen Campbell was an amazing artist. He had a fine voice and was a master guitar player. Watching him play was as entertaining as listening. Did some acting too.
@@ronniealexander8967 I thought Jerry Reed was remembered as a guitarist? Just with Glen Campbell the guitar playing was maybe overwhelmed by the charisma and personality.
One of the things that drew me to Country music - skill. But the talent is used so well, to serve the song. Roy, Chet and Glenn can do it all on guitar, but they are also all about creating a great song, a great piece of music. As are the rest on the stage.
Mac Coleman I agree with you. What immense talent, looks, style, performer and oh all the songs he recorded I can't believe! I sat down at my computer when I heard of his passing and went through all the songs Glen sang ........ brought back sooooo many memories from my childhood. Watching this today made me miss my mom and dad so much I just cried. Isn't it amazing what music does to our memories and soul? May you rest in eternal peace Glen Campbell. Millions of ppl loved you!
I've probably watched this clip hundreds of times over the years. It pops up in my recommended videos every couple of weeks, and I always watch it when that happens. Without fail, each time Campbell gets to the end of his solo I'm just as elated as everyone in that room were. I love his smile at 1:56 just as he's finishing it. It looks like he's thinking "Damn, I'm good." And he was. Sheer brilliance on display.
Same here, buddy. There’s an excellent analysis and breakdown of the solo on the WingsofPegasus RUclips site. He talks of Glen’s ability to hit every note with his right hand when playing up-tempo pieces on acoustic, which is incredibly hard to do, but which Glen does effortlessly. It makes every note emphatic. His dexterity is amazing, but really amazes me is that he couldn’t read music and played strictly ear. Wow.
The Wings of Pegasus video was very good. I had no idea he couldn't read music. That makes it so much more impressive. Makes me want to learn how to play an instrument... I'm sure I'll get around to it eventually. Fingers crossed! Imagine if you could become even a tenth as good as Campbell. I wouldn't do anything else but play music all day until I shuffle off this mortal coil.
A pure talent and humble gentleman to all, our world is a lesser place without artists like Glen and Roy walking it. Glen may be gone, but never forgotten by anyone who has heard his wonderful music.
This recording was done live on "Ryman Country Homecoming" filmed on April 22, 1999 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. On stage along with Glenn were Chet Atkins, Waylon Jennings, Lorrie Morgan, Willie Nelson, Roy Clark, Lynn Anderson, Bobby Bare, T. Graham Brown, Ralph Emery, Janie Fricke, Barbara Fairchild, Larry Gatlin, Crystal Gayle, Ray Stevens, Geezinslaw Brother, Ferlin Husky, Dan Seals, T.G. Sheppard, B.J. Thomas, Ricky Van Shelton, Porter Wagoner, and Gene Watson. Chet had been diagnosed with cancer reoccurence and had a brain tumor removed two years earlier. and he had a rough go of it. Him palying the guitar softly behind Glenn is very touching.
Hey Steve thanks for that list of the stack of legends, clapping one of the most underrated guitarists of the 20th century.. 👍 Not too many could lay down a solo like that and also sing it so purely.
If I remember, Ronnie McDowell was part of this as well. He told a story about turning down 3 consecutive songs that were #1 hits for Conway Twitty. The next time Conway tried to give him a song, he said "Gimme that sucker; I don't care what it sounds like!"
There will never be another Glen Campbell. Most talented musician ever. He could play and sing anything. Most people don’t know that he once filled in for Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys on tour when he was sick. Unbelievable!
Roy was looking at Glenn wondering if he should jump in but wasn't sure if he could keep up with him!😂. Roy was a stud in his own right! God blessed them both!
I also just turned 72 last month. Most people remember Glen for his singing and his TV show. However, he was one of the most talented studio musicians to ever play the musicial scene. The top guitarists (i.e. Roy Clark) could only smile and nod approvingly when Glen played. Even in his later years, even though he could no longer remember the words, he was still able to play the songs. His fingers still remembered the notes. That is a tribute to how great a guitarist Glen was!
Don't forget to mention his voice too John, that and him being such a fine man. I'm from England and not of the Glen Campbell generation or background but I know what a beautiful thing the man's music will remain.
I too feel sad about his departure, but through the technology we have created in this world, allows him still, to share his gift with us, and I really appreciate that as no matter how I feel, I feel a bit better after listening to this song. The effect is immediate and no drugs were required -that is the power of great music!
and he passed that to his children. i think of ashely the most who helped her dad while he had memory issues called Alzheimer's on glens farewell tour. that also goes for glens last love his life and the rest of glens last family. he is a lucky dog to have that support an i love his rhinestone cowboy. and in that thought look at michael martin murphy song about cowboy logic . you have 3 cowboys in the front of a bench seat pickup truck which is you best guess of a true cowboy. its the one in the middle. he does not drive and he doesn't have to open the gate especially during inclement weather.
His uncle taught him to play guitar and the rest was sheer talent and honed on practice. God, what a story. Left home @ 14, and the rest is history. Doesn't happen much. God bless Glen.
Yes, I can believe that. He’s from a musical family and played since he was a boy. Childhood is the best time to learn a musical instrument. The relationship between a child’s brain and training the connections in the young nervous system make it the perfect time to learn. It all becomes so ingrained in a way that is very difficult - perhaps impossible - to achieve as an adult. Of course he was talented on top of it!
It's Melodic playing. It goes more to the Heart and Soul. Thom Bresh was right behind Glen and Thom ain't no fool! Here is a great old tune he is doing with Tommy Emmanuel. ruclips.net/video/cfm8CLWdMs8/видео.html
Glen doesn't even look like he's trying when he plays guitar. He's seriously have a conversation during his solo and it's like his fingers have a mind of their own. Phenomenal.
years and years of experience...check out some of the "Wrecking Crew" videos online....he was around for a long time before anyone had any idea what kind of talent he really had..
If I had a nickel for every video on RUclips where someone has to clarify that, "I'm not a country music fan, but.." I could buy myself a new pickup truck!
I'm not a country and western fan generally, but his voice, guitar playing and the heart and soul he put in his performances just blows me away. A sad loss to the world....
glen was certified cross-over. so were several of the other faces in this circle. most of them started out as "country" but they didn't limit themselves to it. and others they played with could also play whatever styles suited them.
I never thought of Glenn Campbell as country because I lived in Chicago and he was more of a cross over entertainer and was played on pop music stations.
I think country music is one type of music that has a lot of bad cheesy stuff but dig deeper and you find the really great stuff, glen campbell is one of the latter
I am sure you have heard him in plenty of songs and did not know it. He was a sought after studio musician. I met him once, he acted like an ass. But i knew even then, WE all have our down days. I spilled tomato juice on his white jacket just 4 minutes before he was to go on stage at a small venue. He quickly recovered from his angry laser stare at me and said; Is that my water? thanks kid. mmm did i say he acted like an ass? I meant , I did. I did not even say I was sorry. sorry Mr. Campbell up there , I was just a star struck schmuck.
Right out of high school I was fortunate enough to get a job at Gold Star Recording Studios. They weren't called the Wrecking Crew at the time, but I got to see Glen, Carol Kaye, Hal Blaine, Earl Palmer, Larry Knechtel, and the rest of them nearly every day. I NEVER saw Glen play a bad note, nor did Carol. They were beyond amazing as clearly demonstrated by Glen's solo here. There were many many times Glen played his solos live on the tracking session. Over dubs? Why? Not when he had this kind of talent. You see; way back before Pro Tools, there were pros. I was fortunate beyond belief to have had those experiences... RIP Glen.
What a special job you had! To have been around that much talent every day must have been awesome. You know, it would spoil most people to the extent that they could not listen to average pro players anymore. I envy you immensely, but I thank you for sharing your experience and letting people know about these folks.
@@southtxguitarist8926 Haha! Yea, before there was Pro Tools there WERE pros! Gotta truthfully say, the first time I heard that line was from Rick Beato on his RUclips channel - one of thee best music channels ever. Be sure to check out his breakdown of hit songs in a bit he calls; “What Makes this Song So Great”, where he will SHOW you by checking out different soloed tracks.
@@liannebedard5521 Yes! Every week I would stop in and ask to see Dave Gold. I was 19. Did you know Cher was a receptionist at Gold Star studios? Anyway, this went on for about five weeks…I kept showing up. And finally he said; “you really want to work here dont you!” Yes sir Mr Gold! Then he hired me right there on the spot - to take a dolly out back and unload a ton of new recording tape and office supplies! HAHA!!! But… I WAS IN the recording business!!! I was so excited I was always there before Dave opened up and I clocked out at 5:30 PM, but usually stayed ‘til midnight because I could help out on the night sessions (but no pay). Buffalo Springfield did a lot of night sessions… And nowadays kids have to pay $30 grand or more for classes at Full Sail and such. I was incredibly fortunate. I should probably do a podcast - so many stories from the old days…. Cheers!
OMG. The way they were all trained on Glen just shows how they admired him. On this Thanksgiving, I thank my God I lived in the same time as Glen and all of these icons. God bless everyone.
God bless you and God bless Glen Campbell. May he rest in peace. The horrendous disease Robbed him. But according to his wife it was the very last thing to go. He could not talk but he could play the guitar to the very end
@@gregadams6055 I agree.. Glen toughed it out to the end. He performed as long as he could and never let it get the best of him. The best part is that nobody judged him when he did shows near the end. That's how we should treat each other...
When Glen Campbell starts his brilliant solo, surrounded by all the GREATEST legends of Country Music, every single ONE OF THEM is absolutely DAZZLED..... (especially the guitar players.) He will live FOREVER as one of the greatest guitarists of ALL TIME.
Chet established the CGP title which was an invitation of distinction before his condition prevented him from playing. There were only 5 players ever invited into the CGP (Certified Guitar Player), Glen Campbell, Steve Wariner, John Knowles, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, and Paul Yandell was invited after Chet's death. I think Roy should have also been invited, but then see the level you had to be at to make there. Glen was amazing.
He was one of the best guitar players ever. A lot of people overlooked his talent. When you have the people like Chet Atkins Roy Clark looking at you in admiration as you play says a lot.
He was an incredible talent, much more so than so many 'artists' nowadays. Too bad he had so many demons but then again, so many creative, talented people seem to have them. It's almost as if they go hand in hand.
Watching all those great country music stars looking at Glen Campbell perform that song, and seeing their faces basically saying “this dang guy is the most talented person here tonight” was incredibly satisfying!!!
My takeaway was that fellow great guitarist, Roy Clark, who has intermittently played with Glen Campbell over the years, was being a good sport but was all the while wishing he would have been part of this performance too. However, you could be right!
i agree too... he was itching to play but he stood back to let his friend play something what will never be repeated... you cant beat 'live' when you see those expressions... bye the way who is the girl with the nice smile and shortish brown hair... she is on timeline at 2:02... thank you.
To see Roy Clark in awe just gives me chills. Roy was one of the greatest guitar players who ever lived yet even he knew just how good Glen was. This is one of my favourite clips on RUclips. I revisit it often and it still gives me immense joy. Tremendous upload.
I'm a rock fan but always thought Roy Clark was the best player ever until I started listening to Glenn who's to say who's the best they're both unbelievable &then there's Jerry Reed
The '60s were busy, as were the '70s , busy and busy. Here we are in 2021 and I finally discover Glen Campbell. In 1971 I dropped out of High School. 50 years later things slow down enough to catch up.
I am just saying but this level of talent is unheard of today in pop culture, this is off the cuff stuff done in front of a live audience. No auto tune, no post production, just a man with a great voice and his guitar. I wish that we had this again today
It's one of the blessings of being older. We could actually witness this stuff live. And yes, as you mentioned, "No auto tune, no post production". Man, I miss those days. Yep, "the good ole days".
Glen doesn't always receive the credit he deserves, for being a great guitarist. A lot of people don't know, that he was one of the most sought out session guitarist in the business, before he made it as a solo artist. He played on a ton of albums. Rock, and Country.
I HATE IT when some know it all says “A lot of people don’t know....” We aren’t cretins! Many of us have loved music our whole lives---and not just the top 40!
So damn right Helen. People who start a comment off with that remark are hoping we DON'T know so that they can tell us! But you are so right. We DO know these things about Glen. Why wouldn't we? Like yourself, I have lived through so many styles of music over the years. Rock and Roll, Rhythm and Blues, Folk, Country, Punk, Reggae, etc, etc, and I'm so glad I was around for ALL of it. I could compare the class against the trash and Glen Campbell was the one that made me take an interest in the guitar......7 years ago when I was 60! Rather late I know, but the last 7 years have been so musically enjoyable. I just wished I had taken it up in 1960.....instead of when I WAS 60!. But better late than never I suppose.
Now that he's gone, all we can do is, just rejoice every time we hear the sound of his voice. One of my favorite country singers. May his soul rest in peace.
Have you taken a look at the 10 min. CBC morning short posted here (entitled, FAREWELL) - very well done. Interestingly, he states in it that he did not see himself as a 'Country Singer' per se, but someone who liked good songs, which of course says so much about his endeavours and choices. He was a very bright star that has NOT burned out!
A ROOM FULL OF RESPECT! The late and great CHET Atkins, Crystal Gayle, Ray Stevens, Willie Nelson, Roy Clark, B J Thomas, Waylon Jennings, Bobby Bare just to name a few. And a humble and confident Glen Campbell!!
And let's not forget the great Johnny Hartford for those magnificent words he penned to paper. They are more than words. They are capsules of people's lifestyles and of their lifetimes. My very own lifestyle matches them so well.... All up, so much beautiful music from so many legends and Glen sure does have that guitar leading the way on this one. Thank you to all.
Imagine being a son or daughter or grandchild of Glen and at any time you watch this video of him playing in front of the some of the greatest in country music history. Then you see this audience react in spontaneous and genuine awe. enjoyment and love for the man and his skills and talent. For Glen's descendants this legacy performance is beyond precious.
In September of 1967, I sat with Glen and his band in an all-night coffee shop till 5:30 AM telling stories and jokes. He was easy to be around, relaxed and friendly. I'll also mention that my radio station back then (KMOR in SLC, UT) was among the very first to play "Gentle On My Mind" when the John Hartford version came out in May of '67. Glen's release was in August and we had it on the air the day we got our copy.
Jim enjoyed your post .. longtime Glen Campbell fan since 1961 and also, I got to know John Hartford - pelase contact me. Roger Christensen, San Diego (age 66)
Dear Sir, thanks for the nice post and remarks. I first got to meet Glen in 1961 !!!! He was a session guitarist and vocalist. My Mom, Dad and Brother and I were coming back to San Jose, CA from South Dakota. We stopped into "Billie Jean's Hair & Nail Salon" in Albuq., NM There was a guy sitting in the back corner just playing his butt off on his guitar. My Dad said, this young man is great. I went over and introduced myself and family. He told me in the summer of 1961 - he wanted to be a professional singer. Years later in 1964, after I had meant the Righteous Brothers, Hal Blaine and The Wrecking Crew - which Glen was a member of , did I get the total picture. He got paid $35.00 a day to play guitar on albums of very famous people. Everyone at Gold Coast studios, starting with Sonny & Cher knew he'd be a BIG star, and he became one. I saw him in concert at least 50-60+ times, just like I did with The Righteous Brothers, Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. You can imagine that I never had to buy a ticket after about 1966 - it was all "on the house." I saw Glen go thru his ups and downs - as did with others. I loved Bobby Hatfield (1940-2003). I collect celebrity autographs thus, after you ask say, Neil Diamond, 25-40 times to sign an autograph they sorta remember you and you form a "fan /celebrity" relationship." Glen and The Righteous Bros - were my all-time favorites. I also got to meet Jimmy Layne Webb at least 20+ times and the list goes on. He is literally God's gift to my generation as one of the greatest singer-songwriter-composers - just look him up and see of of the GREAT songs he wrote. He was NEVER too busy to talk to any fan or sign autographs, pose for pictures, he was just such a fine Christian gentleman. Thanks again and I hope I didn't bore you. I could write a book about my collecting adventures and the "friendships" that I made while collecting. Not all celebrities are nice to the fans - TRUST ME.... SOME PEOPLE THE PUBLIC WORSHIP'S ARE SO RUDE AND MEAN YOU NEVER GUESS IT WHEN YOU WATCH THEM ON TV OR IN A FILM. BUT I WON'T GO THERE AND PUBLISH THEIR NAMES. MOST celebrities, IF approached the right way - will sign autographs pose for pictures. All of my old autograph friends - where we'd go out collecting together - at night - gosh we'd start 5:00 PM and end up staying out until 6:00 AM. Picked up Frank Sinatra one night after waiting 10 hours. He was such a nice gentleman - it was his bodyguards, just doing their jobs, trying to keep us away from him - when he would actually tell them to back off and let him sign. He'd see us when he went into have dinner and then their late night poker game. Then more partying - but when he walked outta the club/restaurant - he immediately remember the faces that had been standing in the cold for 10 hours for one autograph and he would ALWAYS sign. I will say this Danny Thomas and James Garner were two of kindness celebrities I've ever gotten to know. They just loved the fans. Mr and Mrs. Ronald Reagan long before his was the President of the United States and Nancy was first lady - they were such classy people to the very end. It didn't get any better than them. President Reagan, even after he got outta office would sign autographs and just talk to us fans about sports ... it was great. He had a GREAT lsugh that I can still hear to this day. How is this "my man" for an nice response to your post to me .... :) .. God Bless You, Roger C. San Diego, CA
My God, at this time I was just a baby. In 1967 I was maybe 16 years old. I heard Glen on the radio and watched him on TV. I didn't know anything about bars and bands till much later when I played music for a living. This was a whole different breed of musicians and artists, great guitar solo, live, off the top of his head. It was just such an inspiring time. It must have been incredible for you to be in that business, at that particular time. Most people now know nothing in the real world of those whom paved the way. You got to be part of that.
There won't be another Glen Campbell. His voice is fabulous, and the way he plays guitar is amazing. Just watch his fingers. I certainly hope he will not be forgotten, and generations will have the pleasure of watching these videos till the end of time. Thank God for music!
I never knew the great talent Glen Campbell was until I saw the Wrecking Crew video, he’s has recording credits on about 700 records, like Good Vibrations, Johnny Angel, to Strangers in the Night,, all I can say is WOW.

I've never met a guitarist that knew of Glen Campbell and didn't respect him. Whether you like country, rock, or any other type of music, there's just no denying the virtuosity of Glen Campbell on guitar. One of the finest pickers to ever play the instrument.
Chet Atkins!! I hope these days come back again. I’ve loved country music since I heard “Fancy” by Reba on my grandpa’s radio in his ‘79 Pontiac LeMans in the 80’s. Living in New Jersey and liking country music did not make me popular, but I wouldn’t trade a day of it! Bless all of those that have come before for showing us the true spirit of country music 🙏❤️
I loved how just a second or so before Glen finishes his solo, the crowd knows that it's ending and they all start to give him a big round of applause! Everyone's souls were one at that moment.
I'm 59 and just remembered him for True Grit and Lineman for the County, only recently appreciating him for the genius that he was on the guitar. Now I can't take my eyes off his hands every time I watch him play. His kind will never come again. Thanks Glen and Roy
i am a rock guy really. that's my roots, if you will. but when I hear Glen play a solo, and see the joy on his face while doing it, THAT is what playing music is about. If other people join in on that feeling great, but it has to be a pleasure for you, the player, too. always an inspiration, RIP Glen
Keep in mind, he was one of the greatest session musicians, one of the most sought-after guitarists in the industry before he launched his solo career. He was, in fact, a member of The Wrecking Crew, playing everything from country to rock to pop to Bing Crosby. His friends on the stage with him admired his talent and loved him for the warmth of his character. He was a once-in-a-generation talent.

(He could play that at 10 years old, with his hands tied behind his back.) But I still like Glenn.
Who wouldn't want Crystal Gayle staring and smiling at your midsection?
Willie looking at him like he's a bit of a show off lol
What a classic
This is one of the most flawless, understated, and eloquent live performances I have ever seen. Clearly a master of his craft. And I'm not even a country music fan
You don't need to be a "fan". Good music is where you find it.

Think of the great musicians on that stage. Mindblowing
Matteo Macuso is flawless. Glen is not, but he's a giant where Matteo is a kid yet to discover what Glen discovered doing all those sessions with the Wrecking Crew - make every note sing.
Glenn Campbell what a fantastic talent.
When you're playing your guitar, and Roy Clark is watching closely, then that means you're a great guitar player.
Yea. Thats my Opinion
Roy and Glenn played together many times. They compliment each other very well.
Yes, I noticed him watching
Two bad ass pickers
My thought exactly.
Imagine being in a room full of the absolute best musicians and singers in the world and making all their jaws drop with how good you are, without even breaking a sweat. That's Glen Campbell in a nutshell.
It really is. Nobody ever made it look easy as easily as GC.
RIP Mr. Campbell!
And he made her brown eyes blue. I'm so sorry, but I had to say something, that's all I had at the moment.
I will tell you that even as good and successful as Glen was believe me, he was intimidated by the fact he was on camera and in front of his peers. There was one missed note and he got through it but you could see it on his face for 1 second. A true professional!
Same with jerry garcia
"I'll play one." has got to be one of the best things to hear from a musician
No kidding jamming out with him would of been outta this world I'd be like take it away and he'd look up at me an say with a sigh oh I guess so can U play something more challenging 😂lol 😢jk
The way Willie snapped his head up when he says it gets me every time.
Loved that, glen was so casual about it and then just busts out one of the most beautiful pick licks I’ve ever heard.
Especially from a musician of his caliber
Took the room to school.
I love Country music and all the fabulous artists who sing and perform for us. I'm not an American citizen, but when I listen to these beautiful songs, it's the way I see America: love, friendship and freedom. A wonderful, country. One of the things that drew me to Country music - skill. But the talent is used so well, to serve the song. Roy, Chet and Glenn can do it all on guitar, but they are also all about creating a great song, a great piece of music. As are the rest on the stage.
I an old man who cannot keep from weeping at his passing. Thank you, Lord, for sharing his talents with us. Please embrace him as he goes home.

Very, very wel said sir.
It's not fair! All that talent and he looked like a Greek God too! Special talent.
Well, he looked Scottish :)
❤🇬🇧❤️
A pure talent and humble gentleman to all, our world is a lesser place without artists like Glen and Roy walking it. Glen may be gone, but never forgotten by anyone who has heard his wonderful music.

Yessir, he sure deserved it
This recording was done live on "Ryman Country Homecoming" filmed on April 22, 1999 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN.

Thank you!!!
Thank you.

There will never be another Glen Campbell. Most talented musician ever. He could play and sing anything. Most people don’t know that he once filled in for Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys on tour when he was sick. Unbelievable!
Roy Clark’s expression says it all! Much respect to both legends.
Roy was looking at Glenn wondering if he should jump in but wasn't sure if he could keep up with him!😂. Roy was a stud in his own right! God blessed them both!
Even Willy sat this one out.
Yeah, that's Roy thinking "sumbitch can keep up with me." He didn't run into that very often.
Yes, I can see Roy Clark glad that one of the greatest songs of our century …. Was a country song.
That smile on Merle Haggard's face is something that can't be faked.
This song was first popular in my late teens, a special time. Now, it brings a tear to the eye of this 72-year-old guy.
It gets something going in me too . I think I should have been a tramp 😀
I miss you dad 16 years but your still gentle on my mind xx
Jimmy wrote some wonderful songs and Glen did them justice.
65 and me too
I also just turned 72 last month.
Glen was a truly gifted guitarist, lucky us, he shared his gift with us!
RIP Glen
Don't forget to mention his voice too John, that and him being such a fine man. I'm from England and not of the Glen Campbell generation or background but I know what a beautiful thing the man's music will remain.
I'm still sad.
He was also a certified BEACH BOY!! And toured with them for a year, while the other beach boy was indisposed. 🤷🏻♂️ But Rip GC. 🙏🙏

Can you believe that Glenn was self-taught!. Truly a God-given talent.
And one of the few in 'The Wrecking Crew' that couldn't read music!
....yep Hugh, that's how usually goes. The genius's are taught by something else.
Wow. I didn't know that. Self-taught and couldn't read music, and I guess he was a real virtuoso on ALL guitars. He mastered them all.💖💕💖
His uncle taught him to play guitar and the rest was sheer talent and honed on practice.
Here I am a metal rocker, and cannot stop listening to this. Just wonderful!

I NEVER saw Glen play a bad note, nor did Carol. They were beyond amazing as clearly demonstrated by Glen's solo here. There were many many times Glen played his solos live on the tracking session. Over dubs? Why? Not when he had this kind of talent.

Yes old mate. No fancy shit, like synthesisers, and stuff to make tone deaf singers hit the right note. When on stage they mime...
What does that mean?
Amen brother.
@@josephwitkowski6665 raw talent my friend..
As an 18 year old I can certainly say that this is the country music I live for
A ROOM FULL OF RESPECT! The late and great CHET Atkins, Crystal Gayle, Ray Stevens, Willie Nelson, Roy Clark, B J Thomas, Waylon Jennings, Bobby Bare just to name a few. And a humble and confident Glen Campbell!!
Well said.
Yesiree.. It's magic when the melody, the words telling the story and the singer interprets it like a master ..

B. J. is really rockin that mullet!
AGREE!!!
His daughter sang with him for the last years.
I sent his son Dillon a friend request and he accepted. 😊😊
Nice comment Arthur
He was a terrific performer definetely up there with the greats.
Roy Clark, "THE Roy Clark", looking on with reverence is just priceless. What an amazing performance.
I've watched this clip a hundred times and I'll watch it a hundred times more
Maybe more.....awesome !!!!
Same and not even a country music fan, just a a great vibe.
Me too.
What a talented guy ! Hè plays so smooth and natural while singing with such a clear voice and charisma...., great song!!
Clint Harrington same here, I never tire of watching and hearing him play, and you can see his peers watching in awe of him
The most talented performer ever - even in a room of legends he still shines like a star in the sky.
Yep those men played with Elvis
Doesn’t he just.
I’m not a big country music guy buy I’d listen to Glen Campbell ALL DAY LONG.. pure voice….loved him…
Unbelievable song glen holy smokes
One of the finest singers ever, and his guitar skills were other worldly.
Fun fact glen campbell taught a couple of lessons to eddie van halen that's how good of a guitarist glen is easily in my top 10
Nice voice, nice looking, great guitar player. Great Entertainer too.
@@jesusqueriapa8655 not a fact tho, Eddie wanted time with Glen but never got it.
You got that right
There's a famous story of Eddie Van Halen of once asking Alice Cooper, who was a good friend of Glen's, to book Eddie a guitar lesson with Glen.
Jim enjoyed your post .. longtime Glen Campbell fan since 1961 and also,
I got to know John Hartford - pelase contact me.
I collect celebrity autographs thus, after you ask say, Neil Diamond, 25-40 times to sign an autograph they sorta remember you and you form a "fan /celebrity" relationship."
Glen and The Righteous Bros - were my all-time favorites.
God Bless You,
Roger C.
San Diego, CA
That is such a great story.....thanks for sharing your memories !!!
You got to be part of that.
i remember having coffee with glen in 62at an all nighter in memphis
There won't be another Glen Campbell. His voice is fabulous, and the way he plays guitar is amazing. Just watch his fingers. I certainly hope he will not be forgotten, and generations will have the pleasure of watching these videos till the end of time. Thank God for music!
Carol Wade 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hello Carol, how are you doing, I hope you're doing great. Am Harry from Arizona, where are you from if you don't mind.😊🌹🥀
This is just incredible. His composure, the strength in his voice, a room full of legends just wrapped up in his performance. Unreal ability
No boastfulness, just talent.
Chet Atkins and Roy Clark studying his chords, that's when you know you are a legend !
I never knew the great talent Glen Campbell was until I saw the Wrecking Crew video, he’s has recording credits on about 700 records, like Good Vibrations, Johnny Angel, to Strangers in the Night,, all I can say is WOW.
I’m a die hard rapper and I will chase that dream till I die but this is one of the most wholesome and beautiful performances I’ve ever seen. Makes me wish I was a simpler man. Glen Campbell was a wonderful and talented character and it’s a shame I’ll never meet the him. Rest In Peace Glen. ❤️🤠
Thank you for your wonderful comments! 🎶🎶🎶
Comedian owen benjamin has a fantastic bit on the difference between country music and rap music. You shpuld check it out.
you can be if you want to . Grab yourself an acoustic guitar. Start playing. Will will feel it.
Great comment ☝🏻
Colin Southern agreed brother. Spectacular concert.
To quote Merle Haggard: “If the good Lord put too much talent in one human being's body, that would be Glen Campbell.”
What an incredible talent.
When the gods of country are mesmerised by his version then you know just how great Glen was
Hello how’re you doing.
1:53 When Glen pulls such a lick with such legends as witness, one of the best music moments of all time!
That look on Crystal's face as Glenn is playing the guitar solo is pure and priceless! 💞
yep...so much love and respect there in that circle...they all knew what a monster he was.
yeah that's that look
I'm not sure that look is what I'd call pure, but it is priceless for sure.
He could have had her then and there if he wanted😘!
Hello how’re doing
What a guitar genius this man was, rest in peace Glen.
He blew the room up. What a great performance.
I loved how just a second or so before Glen finishes his solo, the crowd knows that it's ending and they all start to give him a big round of applause! Everyone's souls were one at that moment.
What a prodigy. Only Glen could have a room full of legendary musicians watch him with childlike curiosity and splendor.
so very well said.
This is like watching pure genius!
I love glen Campbell 🤗
And some thirsty women
Massive happy all round!
Regret I didn't appreciate just how talented he was when he was with us.
Me too I never knew 🙏
I'm only 23 and I love every song of his.
I'm 59 and just remembered him for True Grit and Lineman for the County, only recently appreciating him for the genius that he was on the guitar. Now I can't take my eyes off his hands every time I watch him play. His kind will never come again. Thanks Glen and Roy
Me either I feel bad that I didnt really discover him until after he died
Plenty old recordings. Dude had his own golf tournament! Like Andy Williams :stars of yesterday
i am a rock guy really. that's my roots, if you will. but when I hear Glen play a solo, and see the joy on his face while doing it, THAT is what playing music is about. If other people join in on that feeling great, but it has to be a pleasure for you, the player, too. always an inspiration, RIP Glen
I'm a classic rock gal, but I stop to listen when Glen plays.
He was a once-in-a-generation talent.
onus gumboot, Glen toured with the Beach Boys in '64 and '65, filling in for absent Brian Wilson . . .is that enough ROCK for ya?
People who know great music like all kinds of different music. Rock, soul, jazz. Blues the best. You're Eclectic.
@@BAMBAMMcDaniel he was best friends with Alice Cooper, used to sit in for him..... played golf with Alice 3 times a week
I turned 65 this year. I’ve listened to a lot of music over my journey but nothing makes me me more happier than than this.
You cant even put into words how good this is.
Jan 2020! Still in awe of this Master of Music

Everybody loves Glen at his best. This song is solid Platinum and GOLD. PURE GOLD. rest in peace, Glen. you were the best.
Len Hummel I'll drink to that. I miss his TV specials.
Unbelievable guitar playing
and just humble as heck. He went and did it, didn't stick everyones face in it, he just did it, enjoyed it and so did we.
Len Hummel I never got to say goodbye to him didnt get to see him for like 5 years to
Len Hummel ...the best ...thank you for posting pure gold song by one of the best pickers ever any era .....peace and goodness always...jd
I am of Indian ancestry born in Brooklyn NY but moved to Houston, TX in 1979, I was like nine years old listening to Rhinestone cowboy jumping from couch to couch to that song. This song in particular is so sweet. I love this man and I love country music. I miss Texas and that down south country hospitality.
Now, that's the way it's done. Rest in Peace, Glen Campbell. Glad you stopped along our way.
Amen to that.
If this doesn’t give you the chills you don’t have a pulse.
True that
I just don't understand how anyone can be that good.
@@tim59ism look up all the records that Glen performed on, from river deep mountain high, strangers in the night, Johnny Angel, good vibrations and all of The Beach Boys early recordings. Glen was first call guitarist for most recordings in the wrecking crew back in the day.
@@johnheinrich1718 Thanks, John, noted ! It's awesome to see a master guitarist at work like that. I would say Glen Campbell was nothing less than a genius. Maybe even more than that he was a fantastic showman, good looking, stylish, cool as hell ! Next time round I'm coming back as him. Best regards
@@tim59ism watch the Steve McQueen movie, Baby the rain must fall, Glen is a band member in the movie and the drummer is Hal Blaine, also a Wrecking Crew member. And look at what Alice Cooper has to say about Glen on RUclips.
