Still to this day I am blown away by GC's guitar playing, I mean he was playing banjo licks on the guitar! As a young acoustic guitarist in the early 70's, when all my friends had gone electric, I stumbled across a 60's album, THE 12 String Guitar of GLEN CAMPBELL, and was a fan forever. When his career took off I was disappointed his voice and those great Jimmy Webb songs took the light off of his guitar playing, but he always managed to take occasion to make sure everyone remembered he had serious chops on the guitar.
That was one of the coolest things about Glen Campbell .. He loved to showcase young talent and he WANTED them to look good and do well. Both incredible talents.
That makes me smile with tears in my eyes. This was fantastic. I will miss Glen. He was a true artist. One of the best if not the best studio guitarist ever. Thanks for RUclips to be able to see these clips.
I still miss Glen and his amazing voice and guitar playing after all these years. Loved the fantastic echo from the banjo on this. Brilliant performance by both Glen and Carl 😊💖
That's some serious picking! Guitar and banjo playing in harmony to each other, and adding all kinds of runs and extra frills at hyper speed! Just phenomenal talent! 🎸✌️😎
I was on my honeymoon when I saw Glen & Carl at the Apollo Stadium in Adelaide. Glen was wearing a white sequined suit. They played this song & of course some others. Both absolutely brilliant! It was one of the best concerts I've ever been to, unforgettable & that's why I remember it to this day, some 46 years later. Glen is one of the best artists of all time. His 2 concerts were completely packed out.
I'm not a huge fan of this style of music usually. But these music played by those musicians is phenomenal. You can not like the style, but you can't deny the fact this live is legend.
Hats off, amazing talent. Both of them, always knew Glen was a great vocalist, and played the guitar . But never imagined how great he was on the guitar !!!!!
papa bits He definitely could pick them strings. I prefer acoustic music and unfortunately there’s not a lot of great musicians that can strum and sing without any background noise.
As I recall, Glen Campbell was a "Studio Instrumentalist" who played guitar....in other words; he played back-up for others who were recording their songs. He was somehow discovered as having a talent in his own right...and the rest is history!
Partially true, he was a highly respected and in-demand studio guitarist who played in the background on hundreds of records throughout the 1960's but he'd led bands of his own back in Arizona & New Mexico and always aspired to a career of his own, it's just the records he made on his own didn't sell until he found "Gentle On My Mind", the studio work paid the bills
His uncle was 'Dick Bills', entertainer that had a radio program in Albuquerque NM. KOB was the call sign. "K Circle B' in Albuquerque", Dick sang the opener. They both, Dick's band, played at the local clubs at night. 'Caravan East' and the little bars, the Corral and Hitchin' Post on Rt 66, the west side, the Paradise included and 'Little Beaver town'. All knew the young guitar player that Dick Bills showcased.
Glenn Campbell was a part of “The Wrecking Crew”, a group of many artists who rotated as session musicians on some of the biggest songs and albums ever produced. A group of extremely talented people indeed!
What I find amazing is the kid playing is really using his ears big time as well as awesome playing - very relaxed. Glen - exceptional musician in every way he could hold his own plus with any guitarist. Cheers for the vid
THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glenn Campbell was such an amazing guitar player and this young man? Carl Jackson? Wow. Very skillful! Mind blown. They make those instruments FLY.
Here is how good Glen was. Eddie Van Halen, asked Alice Cooper if he would introduce him to Glen Campbell so you could learn a few guitar licks from one of the true greats.
What I take from this clip , is he was a fantastic musician , and a generous man with a warm sense of humour . Anybody would be proud too be known for any single thing in that list . Yet here he was , on top of the world ,& no sign of any sort of inflated star ego . He was a remarkable man , who any rising star should look too , when they need an example to follow .
The Glen Campbell-shows were huge here in Scandinavia, and I could'nt wait for Carl Jackson to do a solo-spot or something like this with Glen. And this is absolutely great. I think, Carl was in his late teens here, possibly 19-20. And he is still a speedy player.
Glenn Campbell was highly regarded as one of the best guitar players by many great guitar players of his time. He was respected by rock, country and bluegrass pickers alike... what a talent. and the banjo player not bad either
Nice playing by both! Hope Glen is doing as well as possible as he is suffering with Alzheimer's disease. I feel for him and his family as I know first hand how devastating this is- my Mom has advanced Alzheimer's. All my best wishes Glen and family.
Nearly 50 years ago, my dad and I saw Glen Campbell perform a concert to mark the opening of the Hartford (Conn.) Civic Center. His consummate musicianship was evident from first note to last.
saw him at the apollo manchester with my mum when i was 8 when i went in i wanted to be an astronaut when i came out i wanted to be a geeetar player :)
One of the joys of YT is discovery. I grew up in the age of Glen Campbell's successful years. I never really gave him that much credit because he was too pop, too middle of the road. Now, that I'm in my 70's and I get to listen again and realize how great he was. I always knew he was a great picker. I'm finding that I am especially appreciating what a great singer he was when you could hear him live. You might be surprised, I never knew who Carl Jackson was before. He floored me with his playing. I'm going to explore.

A banjo makes a room sound like it's FULL of music.
It fills the soul.
It's intentional. The modern banjo was adjusted to fill out opera halls back in the day.
And dude said “think you can keep up”
“Yes, and not look while I do it, and double your notes”…

Glen campbell should be on every top ten guitar players of all time. He could play anything with strings
papa bits
He definitely could pick them strings.
He played and sang with the beach boys, and is credited on many of their records
Bill Hinkle He filled in for Brian Wilson on tour for awhile, playing bass and singing the harmony vocals until Bruce Johnston joined them full -time
I really love this beautiful Music and especially Glen Campbell. I know him since the late sixtys.
Greetings from Lamspringe Germany.

Can't believe he's gone..One of the greats for sure...sorely missed
I love how Carl Jackson plays his banjo and interacts with Glenn as well as his technique.
I have a memory of watching Glen and Carl on TV playing "Duelling Banjos " . Wild guess, but I think Carl was around 16 years old
Man now don't that just make you smile! :)
Yes ! America is fantastic . Damn , I miss living there .......................
You can't be miserable after watching that
As a matter of fact, it did. Lots!
Sure enough
Hell yeah - it is amazing to watch
It made me smile and cry at the same time. God bless you Glen.
What I find amazing is the kid playing is really using his ears big time as well as awesome playing - very relaxed.
Glen - exceptional musician in every way he could hold his own plus with any guitarist. Cheers for the vid
And Carl Jackson continues to use those ears...LOL!
In addition, Carl wrote or co-wrote a lot of very popular country songs that have been recorded by other artists. The list would truly surprise you.
I'm a good guitarist but probably couldn't play a note with Glenn looking at me. What an American success story he was.
Glen was a good friend of Alice Cooper which makes him awesome in my book .
What talent. Glen is seriously missed, but at least he lives on thru his music! Great video.
Charlotte Dickson
He lived long.
In his work he came to prosper.
And then he left treasures for us all to long enjoy.
THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glenn Campbell was such an amazing guitar player and this young man? Carl Jackson? Wow. Very skillful! Mind blown. They make those instruments FLY.
First heard Duelling Banjos when I saw the movie "deliverance".and loved it ever since.Great movie and Glen Campbell was/is the greatest
Good Gawd!! I'm saddened it took me 7 yrs to find this, but better late than never. Wow!!
No
Yes
The Glen Campbell-shows were huge here in Scandinavia, and I could'nt wait for Carl Jackson to do a solo-spot or something like this with Glen. And this is absolutely great. I think, Carl was in his late teens here, possibly 19-20. And he is still a speedy player.
Thank you, Rune, for your compliment on Carl...I will certainly let him know...and, you are correct...Carl was 19...
What a talented man!
I really like to hear him playing guitar.
In Italy he is not very well known, it's incredible, he has sold millions of records!
Have mercy Carl! I'm flabbergasted, and it's been a long time since I had my flabber gasted!
😀😀😀
🙏🤜💖💗💕🤛🙏
Before music boards and iTunes . . . This talent
My flabber hasn't worked in years.
My gast has seldom been so flabbered!
I could see the smoke coming off the fretboards👍
Glenn Campbell was highly regarded as one of the best guitar players by many great guitar players of his time. He was respected by rock, country and bluegrass pickers alike... what a talent. and the banjo player not bad either
what a great duo, what a great soul for music. Hope we had more people like him.
Man, Glen Campbell could really play guitar! Great work by him and Carl Jackson on the banjo.
Thank you so much Glenn and company....you were amazing!
Wow!!! These guys are great!!! Great banjo playing and I have always loved Glen Campbell's guitar work.
The playing in the film "Deliverance" was amazing and this is totally wonderful, a superb piece of music that sounds just so American.
dEREK: yES IT DOES Treasure it always with the modern trend this style and talent may be lost
Glen can play the bagpipes also, I had the chance to see him about 15 or 16 years ago at Frontier City theme park, awesome.
saw him at the apollo manchester with my mum when i was 8
when i went in i wanted to be an astronaut
when i came out i wanted to be a geeetar player :)
I read somewhere that , maybe Willie Nelson or Merle
Haggard had said of Glen Cambell, when God was passing g out talent Glen got in line twice !
Jeez, no where to hide on that number. Top class both of them.
Carl Jackson ain't to be trifled with. Nor is the man, Glen.
Adolph Oliver Bush
THEY HAVE BEEN FRIENDS SINCE 1972....ASHLEY SAID AT A CONCERT.
Carl just kills a Telecaster!
@@TonyMowatt Thank you, Tony...Carl can still play his fingers off!!! :o)
@@nancydavis1391 Hi Nancy! You are correct...Glen hired Carl at the Ohio State Fair in 72...Carl and Glen had a wonderful relationship...so much, that he and Kim asked Carl to be the Godfather to Ashley...and now, Carl and Ashley are enjoying a truly remarkable friendship...he is showing her some things on the banjo! :o) We have a RUclips channel...you can find Carl and Ashley on it!
