I’m nearing the end of my life and every time I listen to this song I’m reminded of my youth. Mom and dad were alive and my brothers and sister were living at home. I feel like I was born at the right time. To the future I say this. “ Enjoy the music my generation left you”.
I am 83 and retired 20 ago after several million miles as a trucker music was my favorite , raised in Detroit by a country couple from KY I still fell in love with motown an rock & roll and country music , Glen Campbell was the best of the best he could make a great singer and one of the best musicians, he played back up for so many groups.
This is an understatement (forgive me), but Glen Campbell was an outrageously talented musician. Not only on guitar, but the tone of his voice. What a talent. Rest in peace Glen.
Good God Glenn What a song, I'm 71 years old and never get tired of listening to Glenn sing this song. God bless you Gleand God bless us all. Fred Rodriguez 2023
I'm 70 years old and my generation Knew how to make music. I'm proud of my generation. I lived the best days. I was born at the right time. The generation now they have nothing. There's nothing to remember and kids being born. Today are born into nothing but problems.

This is the America that I love, that I admired during my college years in the 70s. But that America has changed. Glen Campbell was the symbol of the good things that America gave to the world. I wish those days would come back one day. RIP Glen, your music is immortal.
Yes American has changed. During the mid 70s 1973-1977 I was in the United States Marine Corps. I've been around the world. But I always thought of my little hometown of Charleston, West Virginia. My late Dad was big Glenn Campbell fan. We never missed Glenn's weekly TV show Glenn.
Reminds me of my youth. Living room stereo, mom and dad, roaring fireplace, dark winters night. A happier time for me. I had some difficult days in the times of my life, we all have, yes.
Thirty years ago. I took a small jet to turn myself in at Allenwood Federal Prison Camp to do some time. I used to listen to this song because I had left without saying goodbye to anyone. We had a lake, a bocce court and gym, no fences and an old abandoned church with cemetery we could use. I became successful after I got out and now I'm retired. Songs like these make you travel back in time.
In 1964 they put a radio tower across the highway from our family's farm. I was 7. My parents gave me this little diode radio that u put together. It had a single ear phone and I started listening at nite ,laying in my bed .staring out the window at the bllinking red lite at the top of the tower .
I saw Glen in concert at a casino showroom, maybe late 70’s or early 80’s and he was tossing out a few signed frisbees; I didn’t catch one but wanted it so badly, I offered $100 to someone who caught one . To this day, my husband mocks me for it but I still have the frisbee!
Simple music can make you sing, a simple hug can make you feel, better, simple things can make you happy, I hope my simple hello will put a smile on your face..
I was just 17 when By the Time I Get to Phoenix came out!! Of course I was a huge Beatles etc fan ...but hearing Glen Campbell for the first time, I just fell in love with his voice and songs. Listening to these brings back many memories. Now I am way older and still love listening to this amazing talent!! Glen Campbell you were just amazing and I loved you !!
I remember having my transitor radio on listening to this on my first day of Jr. High!🤩. So grateful to have grown up with the BEST MUSIC of any generation! We had it all - hard rock, folk music, pop & jazz. ✌🏽😎
I love that Jimmy Webb wrote the first two verses of "Wichita Lineman," and Glen and his band just went into the studio and recorded the incomplete song as-is. Jimmy was stunned when Glen told him, "oh, yeah, we finished that recording" while Jimmy was still working on a bridge and third verse.
@@jeffreyleohner3247when you combine his vocal and guitar ability he is one of the greatest performers and musicians of all time. You could argue that he is the greatest and you would not have a weak argument
For me, growing up listening to various rock groups, Glen Campbell was not cool. Hearing him now, I realize he was one of the best song writers ever, AND a phenomenal guitar player.
I did grow up to rock too, but I remember this was played when I was a kid, and I certainly thought back then it was beautiful and I still freaking do. And I also loved Rhinestone Cowboy by him and Southern Nights. So, yes he was no rock, but he was cool. Way cool
Have such wonderful memories of listening to Glen Campbell, one of my mom's favorites. The the end of her life, she had Alzheimer's but she could since every word of those songs we listened to so many times. Thank you, Glen Campbell, and Jimmy Webb, for this song and so many memorable songs from "back in the day"! Great memories for me of my mom and good times! Miss you, mom! 💞
Again, I have to confess that I was too stupid in the 60's and 70's to appreciate Glen Campbell. I grew up with siblings born from '48 to '53, but I was born much later. I wish that I'd had the musical maturity to know that Glen Campbell was a genius on the guitar with an exceptional voice and the man he gave to us all. God bless him , his family and all of us that love his memory and the talent that he's passed to his progeny...
God this man and his music takes me back. Such a loss to the USA and the world with his passing. Still love listening to his music legacy. Pure Americana.
A while ago I was playing golf at Arizona Country Club. We had a foursome and there was this twosome waiting behind us. It was Glen Campbell and the local pro. Glen was a total gentleman.
I went to nursing school in Galveston in the early 70's. Every juke box in town had the song. Glen did a lot for Galveston with the song. It takes me back....to some of the most wonderful tines of my life. Young love, growing up, beginning to understand life.
My favorite song by Glenn Campbell is "By The Time I Get To Phoenix". He makes my skin crawl when I hear him sing it. He has a certain cry in his voice that sends chills to every fiber of your body. You're the best Mr. Campbell, I love you...❤
"Galveston" brings back memories of when I first moved to Tallahassee. And immediately had to come back to Jacksonville twice, for draft physicals as the Viet Nam War raged. And how much my older brother was the wind beneath my wings as I attended Florida State University and worked in his music store and recording studio. Even with the bad times, those were the great times. Thank the Lord.
I was fortunate to attend a tribute concert by Jimmy Webb, before Glen passed away. Jimmy told stories of how he first met Glen, and how they became such close friends afterwards. Jimmy is a very talented singer-songwriter.
I love listening to Glen. I always smile when I hear him sing but there is always a little sadness because he is gone now. Such a bad end for a great talent. I MISS HIM.
I've just heard the most uplifting story when Glen came to my home town of Halifax, England in the 1980s Glen enjoyed his time in Halifax having the chraic with the locals before his sell out concerts. "Time and time I tried to tell her so, she just didn't know I would really go." Such a simple phrase says so much. This song always pulls me back to a time so young, first love, arguing, making up over and over. I finally left and didn't come back, eventually hitchhiking across the country. The words really say how I felt better than I ever could.
I don’t think a lot of people realized how much of a badass Glen was at the guitar. He could shred with the best of them with ease. I love you Glen. Rip my childhood crush. ❤
