- On 10th June 1990, a cockpit window on British Airways Flight 5390 blows out, partially ejecting and injuring the captain through the hole. A member of the cabin crew clings to his legs as the co-pilot completes an emergency landing without any deaths. The captain is found to be still alive after being outside the cockpit for 21 minutes. The blowout was caused by a maintenance worker installing incorrectly sized bolts during maintenance work.

I'm glad he survived he is a beast
Yep. Death swung his scythe, and missed.
Decided it was just not his time, and went to the next name on his list.
He played “dumb” when Billy and Mandy asked about it later that day🤨🤗 (Cartoon Network cartoon reference).
Gonna go behind his house and work on his swing on some bushes later……….they need to be trimmed anyways.
Yes me too kind discouraging because I want to become a flight attendant
I think the whole crew are heroes. If any one of them had not played their role, either the plane would have crashed or the captain would have died. I can't imagine how that co-pilot felt having to take control and land that plane under that much pressure. If he was not the beast of a pilot he was, he would have panicked or made mistakes that would have ended things differently. This survival story is the most extraordinary ever, seconded only by the Aloha flight that lost it's roof.
My Mom got to see that plane tucked into a far corner of the airport. The tarp thrown over it did not do a good job hiding the fact that a chunk of the roof was missing!
If the flight attendant hadnt held his feet, he wouldnt be alive today
The Co-pilot deserved a raised and promotion after that flight. Plus paid vacation.
I can understand why he did want to do an interview for this special. Probably a very traumatic memory for him, he probably does not want to relive it.
Also, crying upon landing safely is understandable given the amount of adrenalin cursing thru his body. Does not make him less of a man in my book.
The co-pilot and flight attendants were amazing.
The captain has an amazing guardian Angel and exceedingly brave to keep flying upon recovering.
Probably checks the windscreens thoroughly every damn time though………..
I agree with all you said. Every crew member on that flight is a hero. It's surprising the copilot was able to keep such a clear head. It shows he has a good head on his shoulders anyway, to be able to get through this and save all those people. And then he had to land in an unfamiliar airport. The man has a lot of guts.
THIS MAN IS A LEGEND HE SURVIVED HE NEVER DIED WOAH THAT TAKES A LOT OF FORCE
ABSOLUTELY TOP NOTCH CREW!
THIS IS WORKING TOGETHER, 100%, NO ATTITUDE.
PERFECTION AT ITS ZENITH!
8:45 you know when you think you’ve had a rotten day at work …. Just think on 😆
Nigel is my hero. His quick action without knowing whatsoever if he'd get sucked out as well. That's true bravery!
that Captain had guardian angels around him to keep him alive. it does not matter whether how many years of experiences this engineer has there is no excuse for complacency
Who else thinks that people should make a movie out of this like the Sully movie?
I agree!
Me me me !!! It’ll be so awesome fr I’ve been thinking bout dis for years
I'm now convinced airline pilots should be very, very highly paid.
Poor Captain.
I heard about this. He’s so lucky!
This cold open was so chaotic. Like I just needed to know how this man got sucked out of a window and how three flight attendants ended up clinging to him so he didn’t take down the plane. Crazy shit and I’m glad he survived
Extraordinary! What a crew.
Wow, is it 1/200 inch difference? There's no way human eyes can detect such thing.
My goodness! This one has me on the edge of my seat!!!
What about the mechanic? He’s obviously very skilled.
Oh my goodness, I am so happy he survived. Even though it was years since this happened I was praying he would survive even though I didn't think it possible 🙏🙏🙏🙏. Then I found he did survive...thank you God 🙏
Can we get the episode about Tammie Jo Schults? A similar incident happens except a passenger is the one that gets blown halfway out a window, Tammie Jo is the pilot of that flight and a badass woman
Yea they made one in season 21
Amazing video. I Totally concur with the previous positive comments.
To me the basic problem was that the windows were designed to be affixed from the outside of the plane and not from the inside. So the air pressure was always pushing against the windows which were held in place by only the bolts and not the plane's airframe.
I've watched so many of these RUclips videos on this subject where the maintenance of the aircraft is many times at fault for the accident.
One question unanswered in this video is were there any consequences for the mechanic who did the job ?
amazing!
I'm not surprised Nigel, that you think about think about it every single day. It would haunt me too if it happened to me.
All’s Well that Ends Well. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
How many times is this same video going to get reuploaded
Can't believe he went out to smoke.
24:02 tell me he’s a Knight?
If not
Why the hell not?
All for the sake of a few screws. And now they're talking about putting planes in the air with only one pilot. The very idea is utterly insane. Pilots could have a heart attack or a stroke, anything could happen.
This is a miracle. This shows us how the lord is great, no matter the level of training we receive.
This is no way that this is season 7, your playing season 2
Guess he was the imposter
Maintenance eh? Yeah just replaced a windscreen....ominous
Yay second like and first comment
Somebody help the northern fella he’s a broken man fgs
We all seen this already
I haven't
@@awkwardautistic well now you have...
You guys are running low on plane accidents, because y’all uploading the same videos
Be the change you want to see in the world
This is as old as dirt, I saw this on here RUclips by Mayday 4 years ago, perhaps more, I have no idea who is stealing who's videos! Wonder s also showing same videos. I wish RUclips would block whomever is not the original
They have the rights. It's not illegal. Honestly, I just want to be able to find the most of these on a single channel because it's getting really difficult to tell which I haven't already seen. But On the Move actually seems to have more of the Mayday episodes now than the Mayday channel or Wonder Channel. So I'm sticking with On the Move for now!
More greed, individuals and companies putting profits ahead of people, which always results in the hurting of people. How pathetically sad that so many people still think money is what life is about. But God's holy word makes it very clear that "the love of money is the root of all evil," which we clearly see in our sinful world today.
The same videos over and over and over again.
These videos are nothing but cheap alarming noise to pump Adrenalin.
don't forget the extreme camera shake lol
