There's a visceral satisfaction one just can't help but indulge in, when one bonks a Flea with a boomstick the size of an AC20.
Scrombles have big bonk stick.
Which is why the Hunchback is my personal favorite, nothing like long distance thumping the lights with precision shots.
@@juangonzalez9848 Regular or swayback?
Brother Malachai
Regular for the AC20 man. Gotta have that big boi boom stick. Although the 4SP does have a spot in my heart for in yer face srm goodness.
@@juangonzalez9848 I have a special love for the Raveback, the one with the giant bank of lasers on the shoulder.
@@Talon1124
Ah yes, the toaster variant. Because anyone piloting it becomes nice and toasted after 2-3 full shots.
In regards to the length of your lectures, I love the length. They deliver more than "This is Mech X and it is available in these variants". You put so much meat on the bone and context to it. In the end, if you feel you are more satisfied with a long lecture than a bite size one, go for it.
Amen and pass the SRMs
I agree. I like how Tex makes it into a novela basically. I went back and played the Atlas video again. It was to damn short at 9 minutes and change.
@@dirus3142 Yep, that video needs to be remade, I think that's the shortest video on this channel.
I wholeheartedly agree, the length allows tex to be himself and also put the human element into the story, rather than a short 'may as well read the wiki' lecture
@@tyrthemaimed7957 Yeah it adds character to the videos which is the only thing that keeps my attention, anyone can just read a wiki article.
...Records imply that the Aurigan Restoration was substantially assisted by a mercenary company; but for reasons unknown to history, this "Commander Scrombles" seems to have been removed from the official narrative.
Tex congratulations on becoming cannon. Your Tex Talks Battletech series is amazing.
Thanks bud
wait tex is cannon?
Best quote from Tex: "You're the Gary Busey of combat today."
To answer the "combat music" question: it would be a playlist with stuff ranging from classical pieces like Mars: Bringer of War by Gustav Holst to classic rock like ACDC's Thunder to movie themes like Pacific Rim's main theme and yes, I'd also have some Sabaton.
Install loudspeakers onto my hunchback and blast some Flight of the Valkyrie.
If I was an aerospace jockey this would be what I would listen to. a bit cliché but still A good one.
Good work man, I like your intro songs.
Goat is the GOAT.
If you stay till the end they play the entire song
While Centurion is a staple medium, I always had a soft spot for Phoenix Hawk. Not the LAM, because LAMs are silly. But I like the sheer speed of the damn thing, with ability to field command and control hardware, making it a perfect mech to lead recon missions. And she packs heat. Large Laser, Mediums, Machine Guns, you name it. But I always loved those "command and control units with firepower they have no right or reason to have". Raven is a great example in the Light bracket. She gets overshadowed by Locusts and Jenners, she's not the fastest, but she WILL lead missiles right into your face. Or will shoot it off herself. Love it.
EDIT: Also, Raven looks amazing. Just saying.
shadow hawk personally tanky enough and fit for a good arsenal
If you're so inclined make a new full length barn door video and memory hole the old one, your favorite mech deserves an hour, and people asking for short videos will pick up real quick they will get NOTHING
I'll consider it
Regarding Battlemech music there are only two correct answers, Either The Garb Of Old Gaul, or Hiela' Laddie. the regimental marches of the IRL Black Watch
Get an accurate pilot and a Marauder, introduce them to headshot town
My favorite convoy escort moment in this game was a very early mission and a Spider jumped into the middle of the convoy and was immediately decapitated by an APC with a medium laser.
The saga of Scrombles has become a highlight of my week. Your run through the game is so much more successful, and the variation on Battlemechs is more than swarms of Jenners, Spiders, Locusts and Panthers. I'm super stoked to see Marauders, Thunderbolts, Dragons, Pheonix Hawks and the like. Can't wait to see a Warhammer on the horizon.
Godspeed Tex, Have a good day.
I shall sir, thank you
The music in my mech is "Je ne regrette rien" just makes me smile as I core out a mech on a smoke filled wasteland. :)
A man of culture then ^^
@@SonsOfLorgar ;)
I work security, 12 hour shifts.
Your lectures are a fkn god send on slow days, I still rewatch the Amaris Coup/Civil war videos, Impossibly entertaining!
I choke up when I hear those Blackwatch bagpipe sound off💜
Finntroll in the cockpit, hands down
Gotta let Raselhauge know ya love em 💜
Thanks for sharing, and I worked security once. It's a interesting way to make money
The Archer is my "got me into Battletech" mech, and my favourite mech to pilot in MWO. I just wish MWLL had it.
One day there'll be a Archer vid... one day...
"C'mon Get Happy" on loudspeaker, with a horrifyingly creepy smiley face painted on the head of the mech
As I would probably be fighting in a light or medium mech, the band Unleash the Archers: Tonight We Ride / Test Your Metal
the real majesty of this playlist is that it plays a list of episodes in reverse order. Scrombles 10. Then Scrombles 9. Then 8. and so on :)
At 5:50 I was kind of expecting that AC20 to core his own marauder with a stray shot. I've done that a few times.
Big Guns never tire, as Wargamer Fritz would say. AC/20 kills are very satisfying, no matter the medium.
I've never had any issue with the more lengthy Tex Talks Battletech episodes, as you often put intermissions in the middle, which make a good stopping point if I only have time to watch an hour or so.
The Dragon has the kind of foot pads I would picture mechs actually having, to spread all that ground pressure as wide as possible.
For people who haven't listened to the podcast, Tex and the guys are great! I've listened to all of them and a few of them twice, good way to kill an hour or two.
I do love using the Marauder / Archer combo in this, but those bits of unique tech they mount just make me want to keep them safe at very long range
Since the Centurion and the Trebuchet were built simultaneously with the intention of working together, I think it'd be really neat if they got a joint video. I think it'd make sense, since their stories are so closely intertwined. I imagine it would be pretty hard to go in depth on one without spending a considerable amount of time on the other.
A precision shot! Scrombles deliberately used a precision shot!
So, I went to investigate the matter of Tex's canonicity just to inform whoever reads this. Tex gave JUST enough information in accompaniment with the video publish date for me to figure out that the book he was talking about was "BattleTech: Children of Kerensky" by Blaine Lee Pardoe. Tex is Randolph P. Checkers, Esq., Inner Sphere War Studies professor and part-time mercenary (with an Awesome). Congrats to him for his kickstarter contribution meaning something!
Thank you past Tex! I'm going to steal "getting his brains all scrombled" now.
The marauder and all it's variants are easily my favorite mechs. I'm absolutely looking forward to that class!
I like the longer form of TTBT, it's enough information to digest long form and have it on in the background. It's also entertaining which is something that I have difficulty finding in battletech related content. I'm glad that you're as funny as you are in a way, your content is engaging in ways others just can't nail.
as for my mech music depends on the day. Sometimes it's folk punk a la Coffee, God and Cigarettes by Mischief Brew. Sometimes its hardcore punk and thrash, from the old stuff to like, Beartooth and Blood Command, the last song I vibed to in the cockpit was House of Gold by Atreyu if I remember right.
I really like the way you take your time putting together your battletech histories, they are well worth the wait. You stance on not profiting from nor selling yourself/fans out to the corporate bullshit is one of the biggest reasons why I gladly watch your current/past video works. Appreciate the honest and take no shit attitude you have. You ever get to OKC, you and my Hellcat can have some fun. 😁
little electroswing, some jazz, some rythym and blues. something smooth that really swings
As you mentioned songs to blast into battle, loudspeakers on the mech and Kevin “Bloody” Wilson’s D.I.L.L.I.G.A.F.
I've always been a sucker for blasting the Black Knight 2000 theme while running the Black Knight. It's the perfect level of cheese.
15:10 I've been uncontrollably laughing at "You're the Gary Busey of combat today" for the past 15 minutes...
Archer and Marauder both brought to you by flying weeb robots and lams like all the good designs from the early days of the game
That is why Shadow Hawk, Phoenix Hawk, Rifleman, Jagermech, Archer, Marauder, and Stinger have gone out of favor with FASA/MS, not to mention all the LAMs, even the lowly Locust is in that group. Meh
@@arakheno4051 Were the LAMs ever in favor?
@@Misericorde9 Yes, Macros, almost all of them in that anime were lams, and almost all the original ones were stolen from it. They had a definate place in battletech with their unlimited fly/jump, rapid deployment moves. I think the original idea was to do more ground-air battling, spaceships, luner, space ship arena style .. but that never really caught on much.
@@arakheno4051 also oddly why the LAMS are made a punching bag even in the rule set just to explain "why" this nonsense is less viable then "that" in a setting with work FTL anything.
@@raabaddler5802 As I recall, FASA had lifted them directly from Macross (check the old posters SRM 3 on the hip.. hip?.. 3? ..) .. but Macross never registered the trademark in the US. So open season. However when they did bring them over, the lawsuits started to fly (multiple suits) .. after FASA lost #1, they basically started wrecking the entire idea of LaMs, until the clans destroyed the last factory. Now days they don't even mention the Stinger, Pheonix Hawk or Rifleman, and no pictures allowed .. oh its in the old stuff .. but they also don't print that anymore.
Laser Hawk. 80’s synth wave. It would keep me pumped and going.
My in-Mech music would probably be a loop of Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner."
Middle of the Road - Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep
So I'm putting together a mercenary Batallion for a story I'm writing in the BT universe, and I've come to realize something. XL engines are pretty much completely not worth the cost barring the fabulously wealthy, salvage (getting it for free), or some real space constraints on your dropship.
Sure I could buy a Thanatos. Or I could pick up two Grashoppers, plug in double heat sinks, and still have enough leftover for a pretty good weekend on Herotitus.
Tex's sounds of glee warm my heart.
Battletech, the Tale of Scrombles
Episode 11: *So, you like to fall down?*
Music. Probably some bombastic classical music like Tchaikovsky, Holst, Grieg, or Beethoven.
Or Sabaton.
I like the style of your lectures, anybody can get a monotone speaker droning on and on about this faction and its beliefs, or this mech can do X,Y, or Z. But the second you said a Madcat had a small lazer for "shooting birds or something" I was hooked. Your lectures are very immersive for the battletech setting and makes me forget its just a RUclips channel for a bit.
You and all the other guys do vary nice work here Tex
"If I was him I'd be like, 'uh, I surrender? Do you guys have a job application?'"
Battletech, according to the lore...
"Battlemechs are queens of the battlefield, but are rare and precious nigh-irreplaceable resources. A code of 'mechwarrior chivalry has developed where surrender is often offered and full quarter freely given when armor has been breached and the 'mech and it's pilot ransomed back to their host faction."
Battletech, in EVERY actual game, computer or table-top.
"NOBODY LEAVES UNTIL ALL THESE MECHS ARE CORED!!!"
I'd probably be listening to 80's glam metal in the cockpit. I'd blare it over the loudspeaker if I had one just for a good chuckle.
If I'm fighting for the Taurian's I would have Irish rebel songs since most of them are "Get off my property"
Ride into combat listening to Stormtroopers of Death. Nothing more fitting than a Merc Company coming in jamming to some pitch black humor.
39:00 - The ultimate battle music is "Riot" by Dance With The Dead, especially for a one-on-one pit fight where it's personal.
Music in cockpit: Metal Meltdown by Judas Priest off of the Painkiller album. Hell, just let the entire album roll into battle.
You've continued to go forth with humility and creativeness in your work.
Cheers.
What to listen to when on standby during drop: 'Nightwish; Tenth Man Down',, 'BATTLE HYMN OF THE MECHWARRIOR',, selection of the 'StarSiege OST'.
Hmm... Tex, hitting a FLEA with an AC/20 is a kin to throwing a bowling ball at a Chihuahua. LOL
Given their "honorable" hangups, the Argo design seems like a good fit for the Clans. They don't use most of their firepower, so the lack of weapons is less of an issue, especially when they could probably scrounge up some escorts to make up for it. Not to mention that a comfy long haul dropship could make the logistics train easier.
I also recall reading about it being intended for exploration, which might make sense for them, so as to increase their territory instead of attacking a giant swathe of hostile territory they still couldn't control even if they used their full force to conquer it
I saw the community post about Checkers being quoted in that book, so I got a chuckle out of it when you said in some earlier episode of (I think) the podcast that you'd never have a canon character. Congrats!
Given that I've watched all the tex talks at least 4 times. I'm gonna go with a damn you and your legendary quality. Keep up the good work.
Highlight of my day, Tex accurately describing the Sherman!
Also can't wait for the Tex talks on the Wolf Dragoons aka Clan Wolf scouts (I've voted for that one every poll I've seen)
go with Caramel Dancing with the rave lighting to confuse my enemies as the lightshow exits the cockpit.
I like this idea
I'd try going into battle with smooth jazz. Nothing like some rainy day blues while you're stomping capellans
My pre-battle music would be “always look on the bright side of life” by Monty Python.
My in-cockpit music would depend on the mech class.
Light/scout : Flight of the Bumblebee or the Torre Florim cover of firestarter
Medium: La Grange by ZZ Top or Fortunate Son by CCR
Heavy: Battery by Metallica or Laser Cannon Deth Sentence by Dethklok
Assault: Reign of the Hammer or Something for the Ages by Hammerfall
As for music in the cockpit of a mech I do actually have a favorite stompy mech boy song "Coming Undone" by Korn. Something about it's percussion and baseline just puts me to mind of an Atlas stomping across the battlefield. Would throw that track on every time I was doing Solarus Assault matches, while Duncan Fisher screams, "Down goes Vetchi!" after I leg shot Ricardo's Daishi! Good memories!
I love seeing T-bolts in combat. They usually have LRM ammo in their torso and most die to ammo explosions in a single turn lol.
First things to pop in my head for BattleMusic are some Motorhead and Amon Amarth. Bombers and vikings to get pumped up.
Two things, I love the videos, especially the Tex talks, keep it up, and secondly, you kinda sound like Duke nukem, which is awesome, keep it up man
Music: Probably a mix of songs. Weird Al, Dare to be Stupid, Christmas at Ground Zero; 1812 Overture; Vivaldi, Winter; Most of the Tears for Fears albums;
Whatever you feel like you need to do for sponsorships, I'm here for the hilarious BPL content. I'm just not sure how you'll ever find an option as glorious as Fiesta Pail...
Cockpit music selection. The theme song for Mister Rodgers' Neighborhood, and probably Pocket Sand just for the hell of it.
The first music that came to my mind to listen while I stomp with my AC20 Urb is "TNT" - AC/DC. Next is "Santified by Dynamite" - Powerwolf and "Ressurection by Erection" - Powerwolf again. "The Nutcracker" - Tchaikovsky is also interesting. And maybe some Johnny Cash & ZZ Top. Anything from Guitar Hero 3 is good as well.
"Phoenix Hawk is seldom dangerous"
Tell that to my fresh Thunderbolt that had it's kicked the head off by one. Ever since then if I see one on the field it immediately becomes priority 2 for killing (priority 1 being anything with an AC20).
As for cockpit music, probably Chicks Dig Giant Robots, just for the lols.
Tex has had his perspective of the Phoenix Hawk muddled by the LAM version.
Since battle tech was conceived in 84 I like to think I would have a giant ass boom box behind my seat and that stereotypical cassette labeled “BOOM TIME” with Aerosmith, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Def Leppard, Metallica, Rush, and Van Halen.
caramelldansen on loop blaring out the cockpit with appropriate strobe light setup for psyops purposes
The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown - Fire.
That would blair on speakers that I mounted on my Sunder as I crest the hill.
You want Battlemusic? Il give you battlemusic : Position musick : imaculate destruction
*Exited King crab noises*
Battlemusic in my cockpit: My heart will go on.
Or rock ballads: Skidrow, Poison and the like.
ACDC would be blaring in my cockpit because I am Australian and I am proud of it!
"Shoot to Thrill" is on point.
The long format does the source justice. And the pace is good, quality takes time, we get that.
I always played the Heavy Metal movie soundtrack in my ear when playing Battletech.
Battle Music: Metal. Disturbed, Drowning Pool, Sevendust, Nonpoint, Pop Evil...the list goes on.
You didn't have Papa Roach or Korn as the first options.
I would have old country and bluegrass blaring in the background; banjos, fiddles, steel guitars. Nothing says, 'my day is screwed' like hearing Hey Porter (Cash) or The Dead South over your enemy's speakers as a legion of urbanmech slowly trod towards you.
26:35 That's why i like to train at least one of my pilots as a sniper (by focusing on tactics first) not only does that improve ability with LRM due to indirect fire bonus, but also allows you to deliberately target the head for maximum salvage. Stuff that pilot into a marauder with either a Gauss or a trio of AC2s and you can start collecting mechs in earnest.
you asked what music i would play in my cockpit if i were a mechwarrior, i would play classical music. you know, orchestral stuff. i would play it on speakers too, so my allies and enemies could enjoy it with me :D
Watching these pilots ride like they've got suicide seats installed reminds me of the one best thing about Roguetech(And I think Advanced 3062): A Psychology system.
Cockpit music? Come Get Your Love by Redbone. AC/20 rocking as lasers turn armor plate to slag.
Heavy carnage with a light undertone= Perfection!
If the centurion was a person it would be a guy in a greaser jacket and sunglasses”. I see someone remembers plague of gripes
Welcome to Tex talks WWII where we compare Tigers to Cadillacs and Shermans to KIAs.
Depending on the day and my mood, the battle music playlist would either be darker vibe folk music, or some really up tempo electronic/industrial music. Celldweller, Blue Stahli, that sort of stuff
Dropkick Murphies cause blasting rock music with bagpipes while turning enemy mechs into scrap is a good time
I'd be like everyone on the planet playing a CCR playlist,
But starting the invasion would be March of the PooZers - Devin Townsend Project.
And leaving be Seven Seas Blues - Monster Truck.
Pre-drop cockpit music - Liquid Tension Experiment. Enough rock to get the adrenaline going, but not so much that it's gonna burn me out before contact.
In cockpit music:
Lights - Yakety Sacks
Meds - Classical feels right.
Heavies - Classic metal. Painkiller, The Sentinel, Disposable Heroes.
Assault - Sabaton is good and all, but I'll opt for Manowar. I like cheese with my power metal.
Nice to hear the brief talk on my personal favorite mech, the Black Knight. I know a lot of other great mechs are ahead of it in the queue, but I'm sure it will come up on the TTBT rotation some day.
All battles to be fought to the sweet sweet melodies of Creedence Clearwater Revival
My mech music? Something crunchy. Like, maybe some Carcass or Panzerchrist. And yes, it's over-referenced but Sabaton would work well too. It's music built around ass-kickery, of course its gonna work :P Loving the battletech stuff as always, Tex!
Whoop tex is helping me with more uni work!
Seriously tho thanks for the videos tex keep up the good work 👍🏻
Thanks, will do!
He's just nothing but sparks, so do we call him sparkles.
I like the Bob Ross-esque intros. But with more colorful metaphors.
If your mech needs cockpit battle music for the drop, either ACDC's 'Highway to Hell', or for comedy value Barney the Dinosaur singing 'Clean Up'
Doom 2016 OST. Greatest game soundtrack of the decade.
Steel Panther would be epic to listen to going in to combat. Some heavy rock to pump you up and ridiculous lyrics for the laughs.
Aside from Sabaton, Wagner and Tchaikovsky are givens. Probably a few different playlists for different duties. Not for when I need to focus hard though.
And of course a good selection for psy-ops with external speakers. From bubblegum tunes set to mocking lyrics, to bestial noises for intimidation, to folk songs and possibly even lullabies to calm the civvies if thee mission lets me be a hero
I'd be blasting the Megas XLR soundtrack in the cockpit.
What mech match it in battle tech my guess heavy boy.
