I hated how the campaign artificially raised skulls difficulty as you progress through the missions. A full assult mech lance is the max we can bring while opfor has access to a COMPANY of assult mechs...

As a military guy acronyms are…ubiquitous.
Some things get the letters spelled out. Something’s get a word replacement.
LRM, LHMBC, BFT, MFCS, SME, MRE
Other things get word replacement. humVee. Ma Duce, mark 19. A-sip. Bar, and so on.
Bar being interesting, because most weapons are referenced by their number. IE, m2, m4, m14, m121, m9, m1911, m17.
Only the bar is referenced by it’s role.nobody calls the ma dice “HMG” of “heavy machine Gun” even though it is the only unit heavy machine gun the military has used for a century.
The Hunchback is defiantly a Tex Talks I'm really looking forward too. The Clan IIC is just insane. Oh sure they blow up if you look at them wrong, but two U/AC20's on a mech that size can give anyone a very bad day.
They are basically battleship turrets without the battleship armor lol its gonna be an interesting video!

My apologetic headcanon is that Dr. Murad and her engineers are Comstar agents, and the players are unwittingly acquiring the Argo for them. Once it's been stripped of Star League data, the ship itself is a novelty rather than a threat to the balance of power, so no need to chase trigger-happy Periphery murderhobos just to deny them an oversized DropShip.
That makes sense. I can't really think of how else Farah could have learned how to work on a ship like the Argo, unless she's just a super-genius prodigy and downplays that fact.

@BlackPantsLegion Tex, I know you struggle with the whole impostor thing. I get that intimately. But who cares if people get mad? I think the majority of us watch to enjoy your commentary and for the vicarious enjoyment of watching someone else solve these problems. I just don't understand people who are getting angry because you're not playing the game right or that you make mistakes. If I wanted to watch a channel be far superior to me at all things I'm sure there are lots of them that have never set a foot wrong, and never s**t themselves as infants etc. I think people enjoy your content because you don't claim to be a god at all games. I will now scuttle back to my corner and continue writing documentation.

I for one want others to excel, yes its entertaining to watch a youtuber fail, but personally, I want them to do well because most games are more enjoyable that way. Especially if its a hardcore kill or be killed game. And when you are in the business of playing games, why not be good at it? Its not rocket science, its just about learning the system and to me being able to master the system of a given game makes it more fun to both the player and to those watching. Just my opinion!

RUclips is under the impression that you are playing the 1989 game, MechWarrior. Whilst this may be inaccurate, I still find it to be pleasing to the brain meats.
Looking forward to talking about the Hunchback. The thoughts behind the 2c give me serious vibes of going out in a blaze of glory. As if they mixed a Russian penal bettalion with a german Hetzer, but with legs, shiney paint and a second big gun. Oh and they slapped a jetpack to it.
Your comment on multiple lances reminded me of the change I would make to this game. Allow the player to take 1 or 2 complete lances but if they take two, restrict the tonnage up to 500 - 550 tons between both. Because the issue kept having in late game is I would grab a Cyclops or a Marauder and be thinking "Oh, this has a nice ability that could be interesting" and then I would try it and think "I should have just brought another assault mech" as the waves of reinforcements spawned in. If you could take two lances but were limited on tonnage, all of a sudden the heavies, mediums, and lights start being more relevant, as you don't need to cram as much dakka into each mech slot, but rather try to balance things out, so you're not running "The 100 ton assault mechs and the suicide squad of locusts".
It's also really interesting to watch you play this game. Because I can see you do some things I have done, like turning a weapon off to save heat, and forgetting to turn it back on, and at the same time your style is completely different. With some games watching people play is like watching them think, which is fascinating.
BTS starts you with 5 and you can unlock the other 3 slots.
Also, always put your accurate pilots in a Marauder, and snipe cockpits
Marauder is pretty OP. It knocks 10% off all incoming damage to the entire lance AND is the headshot master.
Wow that last mission... I don't blame Tex for the loss on that one, that was textbook atrocious mission design. You have enemies that you know will out number the friendly pilots and you stick them in starter level light mechs, on top of that the player can't bring their own lance to cover for them..and THEN you have medium to heavy mechs plus turrets set up as the enemy?
Geeze, may as well just tell'em all the pilots to walk into a dark room and get stabbed to death.

I think the unwinnable missions are one of the best things. You don't run into that kind of make the smart choice programming in games often. Sometimes running away is the better option.
Tex most CEO have sociopathic tendencies. They are unable to imagine being the other guy. Which makes them good at their job
I feel your commentary on stretching and it sounding like popcorn. I also agree with your take on acronyms though as a SME myself I have to call it smee, because as I consider when to file to get that 214, I am too old to change it up now.

@@liljenborg2517 usually the rule is if the acronym doesn't save syllables then it is not worth it, but people still do try to make them a word. Brevity needs purpose without adding in confusion.

Do bear in mind, every half-skull is 40 Tons, so you were down in tonnage almost a small Medium mech to the enemy, with bad pilots to boot; and I'm not even sure if the Turrets are counted in the difficulty.
So basically, listen to Darius kids, unless you're doing a meme build with something like four Firestarters (someone won the game with this, and it was every bit as dumb as it sounds.)

@@DIEGhostfish Yep. The trick was to use called shots on the rear CT, using reserve and Master Tactician to get double turns. Mechs with ammo in the CT can get one-shotted.
Bear in mind this was back when the game came out though; no idea if the balance has been changed. People whined about Firefighters in multiplayer a lot at the time, so it might have.
That was the toughest trebuchet I've ever seen!
Tex is getting a lot better at this game. 2 things: evasion evasion evasion evasion evasion and firing arc, thats literally all you need in this game lol
And light/medium mech hunters like the Grasshopper or Hunchback 4p that has a million medium lazers up the wazoo. I swear when I first used the 4p on this game.

You would be quite correct to pronounce acronyms as words; indeed a lot of them have become so commonly used that the fact that they are acronyms has been largely forgotten (see S.C.U.B.A., for example). It is really just abbreviations and initialisms that you ought to avoid pronouncing as words.

(Well actually) acronyms are *meant* to be pronounced as words. That's what makes them different from abbreviations.
NASCAR, NATO and UNICEF are acronyms; CIA, KGB, and ATM are abbreviations.

Well kudos for sticking it out to the end, Tex. i know these were recorded over the summer but i still find myself wanting to give suggestions for next run, flinching when your mechs lose a limb or laughing when you manage to pull off a crazy last ditch take down. but either way i am on the edge of my seat each video.

I lost Behemoth in my last play session in a 2.5 skull battle. It was one of those "long patrol" battles where you get two+ extra lances dropping in and the extract location is on the complete opposite side of the map. She was in a pretty thick Thunderbolt, but she ended up getting cored while we rushed for the exit.
It was pretty rough, but I got a Catafract out of the trade. I run an Assassin in my typical lance, with a Coil-L, he put in a lot of work in that mission.
Buckle up boys and girls, prime your yeet seats pilots and lock and load you gun slinging mercs! Its scrombles time! Zorg be praised!

Hey Tex.
I am enjoying the 'Scrambles with Scrombles' play through. Your current game has inspired me to play the 3062 variant of the game again. My current 'lance' consists of: 2x Awesome, 2x Archer, 2x Rifleman, and 2x Warhammer Mechs. I also have a Marauder and a Stalker in the Mech Bay, and a total of 9 pilots.
Like you, I am doing a lot of 2, 2 1/2, and 3 'skull' missions to train up the newer pilots as fast as I can. Because, my next 'story' mission is to go after the Star League Cache... Mission: Grave Robbing.
Before I go for the SLDF cache, I want ALL my pilots to be at least Gunnery 7 and Tactics 7. Although I plan to hold out for a minimum of 7 in all four skills for each, with my starting four pilots all being 10 Gunnery, 10 Tactics, and 8's for the rest.
With patience, I can get there and I will have heavy enough Mechs to weather the ground assault and take the cache... Then have pilots skilled enough to use the captured SLDF units effectively against the forces trying to take 'em away from me.
Oh, as my 2nd line pilots get better, I plan to hit harder mission worlds to gather even more Heavy and Assault class Mechs. I mean, can you imagine a lance of Awesomes AND a lance of Atlases?? Excuse me while I wipe up the drool. :)

Maurader + master called shot = call shots with 31% or 35% chance to hit cockpit depending if mech is laying down or standing.
I got dekker in a marauder loaded with gauss rifle and two large lasers. Takes an average of 1.5 turns to pop the cockpit of a enamy mech I want to add to my mech bay.
Tabletop or not. That turn to close distance was the only thing that excused an alpha strike with a marauder on a turret with 60 hp left.
I wonder if Tex will ever make a video about the Unseen, or is that too meta for him.

I'm interested in doing stuff from an in-universe point of view. Getting into the meta is for a lawyer, because, well, the history is in court.
And Tex, don't forget the precision shot bonuses on that marauder. So instead of doing normal attacks, when alpha strikes use the bonus!
LRM Swarm = 3 Stalkers with lrm60 (4 15s, paper armor... and ammo for weeks not days) and an Awesome for point. Steiner support lance!

War always changes, until it doesn’t, then it’s a different kind of the same.
Well Acronyms are supposed to be said as a word, like "NASA". Or "FOB". It's initialism like LRM and SRM that you spell out. But most people use "Acronym" when they mean "Initialism". It's one of those funny things that I'm sure will linguistically be considered to have transformed over time. Like how the word "Literally" has transformed in most people's understanding towards something closer to the definition of "figuratively". Common usage that eventually seeps into academia as well and in turn gets fed back into common usage until people forget that it hadn't always meant that.
Linguistics and their evolution to me is just fascinating and I do love how the linguistic drift over time happens. Which has only sped up (rather than slowed down) with the mass release of information in the last century.
Oh, cool. I get to be 'that guy'... The difference is between acronyms and initialisms. An acronym is an actual word made up of symbolic letters (LASER - Light Amplification through Stimulated Emission of Radiation, SCUBA - Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus, RADAR - RAdio Detection And Ranging) Meanwhile, an initialism is a set of letters that abbreviate words, but are intended to still be pronounced independently. (FBI - Federal Bureau of Investigations, BAR - Browning Automatic Rifle, LRM - Long Range Missile, ATM - Automated Teller Machine (Or Advanced Tactical Missile for the properly minded)) Only thing is, people tend to conflate the two often, or attempt to shorten an initialism even further by reading it as an acronym. Alas, this is how languages evolve. An unending attempt to lazy our way through day to day communication.

one thing u should keep in mind Tex: Autocannons also have a certain range at which they start to get more inaccuarte again, so try find the sweet spot when u get u close to ur enemys, and always keep ur back covered ^^ if u want to ofc, lol
The way Tex plays, he should just use AC/20s and SRM6s. He keeps getting as close as he can.

Thing is, Tex, the definition of an acronym means that it *does* get pronounced as a word (NASCAR, RADAR, NASA, CAG). The versions that don't, and get their constituent parts pronounced (USA, EDM, WTO, HSBC) are technically initialisms, not acronyms. Normally, the split is "does it follow the phonemic rules for the language of origin? If yes, acronym, if no, initialism"
This can get confusing, as there are initialisms out there that look like they should be acronyms (the example you gave of the BAR is a really good one), and some acronyms that at first glance you might assume should be an initialism (HMMWV). There are even some which can be either (SMLE is a good one), or for which the usage has not settled one way of the other. The determining factor seems to come down to "what are people most comfortable with"

I think one reason that Tex rarely uses Precision Strike is that in the tabletop game, called shouts reduce your accuracy rather than improve it. He probably thinks it's the same in this game - RogueTech also changes it to work that way.

My current 'stable' on the Argo is as follows: Atlas, Highlander, x2 Stalker, x2 Awesome, x4 Archer.
My Storage contains: x2 Marauder, x2 Orion, Grasshopper, x4 Warhammer, x2 Crusader, x2 Thunderbolt, x2 Dragon, x2 Rifleman, Griffin, x3 Shadow Hawk, x5 Phoenix Hawk, x2 Vindicator, and x2 Panther.
12 Million in the bank account. Financials at 1.04 million per month. Nine Mech Warriors 10-8-8-10 or better (two are already at all 10's).
I am currently delaying playing Mission 17, to rescue Lord Medeira, so I can run around 3+ skull worlds, collecting more Mech parts and looking for certain equipment. I'd like to lay my hands on a few more good cockpits, some more TTS devices, and a pair of +++ arms.
Side note: Atlas armed with a ++ AC-20 and FIVE + SRMs is lethal!! Put a good pilot in that, one with at least Gunnery 10 and Tactics 10, and you can pretty much 'one shot' any Mech you want, coring the Center Torso.
Also... the Five Large Laser Awesome is totally cool. And, it's pretty much the same... 'one shotting' most mechs through Tactics hits to CT. Two such Awesomes pretty much seals the deal on anything.

I HIGHLY recommend the 5 Large Laser Awesome design. Near max armor, enough HS to keep it cool, and 200 damage a turn, is not to be ignored.
You pronounce the B.A.R the Bar in order to make alcohol dispensery jokes while firing full auto.

Once you hit about age 35 or so you experience "the Crapening." Your body will start to give up. If you don't already have one, you'll pick up a mysterious ailment that never quite seems to get fixed. You'll start having regular sourceless aches and pains. Keeping the weight off will go from something that requires some effort to ALL the effort.
As a 36 year old, I can't agree more.

We say it as a word and yeah you are right about it being an acronym, though I laughed when you said LB X 10 when it's LB 10 X. :) Keep the coolness, as I love watching/listening to you play and talk Battletech.
The LB X 10 stuff might come from playing a lot of older mechwarrior games. I've been glued to my screen with Mech Warrior 4 - Mercenaries, and there it's LBX - Number. It kinda sticks.

I've had my Titan for about a year and a half now and although it was damned expensive it's one of the best purchases I've ever made.
Still looks and is as solid as the day I got it. Mines the Fabric version Charcoal w/blue stitching, hate pleather personally as it gives me swamp ass on hot days. Prior to the Titan I was having to buy a new chair every year because I'm a short fat fucker but this things built like a tank.

The technical issues that this game has are what keep me from really wanting to play again even more so with the mods that I've added over time. I'm also not super sold on turn based games in general but until they make a Mech Commander 3 or Mechwarrior 5 comes to steam this is pretty much the only Battletech game available.

For a mech I think it looks rather cool. Better that the weirdly forward arm placement that the marauder has.
Only reason i can think of is that they hear the name and then see the chassis and they don't mesh in most people minds.

Far too late to matter, but the reason that catapult had so little armor is because it had dual LRM-20s, not the standard LRM-15s.

I thought I needed to go to the durr but the peesev on my vayt engine was nufguh so I just stayed home and watched bipple until I felt better. Thank goodness I have plenty of embeps and a uhhud monitor.
I loved tex's laugh when he said guass rifle and lpls. Anyway I know this is already recorded. But if you save your space bucks take a trip to Kimi. Between the magitrix and Augerian space. Sldf stuff there. You can also get it on the black market. Black market is pricier though.
Yes I love you re 1 sentince breakdown but I would expand upon it. Kindness is hard especially when you fail to accept that that is mine now.
The Vindicator or "vindy" is a great mech. But the min range on the main weapons are problematic. If the ppc is down graded to a large laser the you have options. Such as 2 less heat. Nice. Two tons spare. A heat sink and a ton of armor? You lose 2 points of damage and have a shorter, not much, range but you eliminate the min range penalty on the ppc. Making it much more effective at all ranges. Imho.
I always drop the Vindicator's medium/small lasers and a couple heat sinks (since it overcools in this game) and upgrade the LRM 5 to a 10. It makes a great early-game fire support mech.
Getting into this game finally and I am having the hardest damn time trying not to blow every enemy mech's CT. I've been trying to LRM things until my punchy pilot gets in to knock them down or desperately trying to land headshots but even on a knocked down mech my headshot chances are a whopping 2%. There something I'm missing here or am I just doomed to never have salvage chances?

I was playing recently and took minor damage to my mech. What broke me up was that the mech beside mine turned, looked and turned away as if to say "ugh... they can do better"

I'm not sure if it's coincidence or if it has anything to do with the comment I made about it in a previous video.
