MOAR SCROMBL
Man at like 10:30 I was saying to myself: "Convoy? Noooo that's DEFINATELY a hit-squad. Your employers sold you out, bro".
In the tabletop RPG, I've played that poor bastard periphery pilot whose lance responds to an incursion, only to see a pair of pristine Marauders crest a hill from the cockpit of a run-down Panther 8Z. Rather than fight in some doomed display of courageous stupidity, I just powered down, popped the canopy, and stood up with hands in the air.
And that's how a periphery pilot ended up a bondsman to Clan Nova Cat.
All I can think of for Scrombles is the Scorpion's Nest scenario which is a fuckload of those little tanks and him being there losing his mind. SCROMBLES PUNCH SKORPIN SCROMBLES HATE SKORPIN. HAAAAATE.

Merry Christmas and Hapoy New Year. Hope you have less pain and more good fortune in your future.
What happened with Wallaby is why I just can't play this game without the panic system mod anymore: no Mechwarrior, outside of the super elite pilots, and maybe the Cappies (and people fighting them,) would just sit heavily wounded in a mech with all its weapons blown off just because the commander didn't bother telling them to eject. They'd probably start retreating as soon as they lost an arm, and would have ejected before the second arm even hit the ground.
It was only during my second playthrough that I discovered where exactly the eject button was.
Well, the Scroble's Slaughterers div. has locked the eject function behind a authorization command that only their glorious (and not so smart) commander is not keen on allowing.
Clubbing someone to death with an animal bone is one of the better backstories I can think of to justify the callsign, "Caveman."

convoys in this game are death traps at anything above 2 skulls. Added to that the loot is usually bad taboot, as all the weight just goes into bigger tanks to shoot holes in you.
Kind of like how the mechs are "undergunned" and all. Takes me back to playing tabletop Battletech RPG. Where you'd end up with Mechs that just... had to make due. You lost that PPC in a fight and you ended up replacing it with a medium laser because it was literally all you had available. It happens. By the end of the deployment pretty much everyone's mechs had been severely downgraded like that, usually with a lot more bolted on armor if they could do it just because why not use up the tonnage, etc? It made the process of going to an important, industrialized world to pick up that PPC you had been missing for your last 6 missions that much more valuable.

You too!
Fighting for the pirates during the campaign is one of the best moves you can make in terms of getting access to equipment as you don't get access to any other factions' special stores.
The black markets are technically open to pretty much everyone if you can pay, but they're totally unaffordable unless you've got at least neutral relations with them. It's how I kitted my crew out with UAC10++s (which are somehow lighter than base AC10s but do double the damage).
You can even do so without annoying too many factions if you take missions against the planetary governments, or the Taurians (given they'll hate you anyway).
Okay, I’m late to this series, but I’m enjoying watching somebody take the hits and keep rolling instead of save scumming.
My only issue is that you need to name your crew in the past tense, because slaughter is not what is happening, you’re division is definitely slaughtered… repeatedly… a lot…

That one Marauder ought to be called Deathtrap or Lucky 13 or somesuch, instead of kill counters near the cockpit it's just tally marks for each pilot it's had
An idea for your next run. Have one of your pilots spec'd into Tactics to where they get the abilities from it. Being able to designate a radar contact as a target is very useful for LRMing from cover. :D
Phoenix Hawk is my favorite medium mech specifically due to Robotech
Merry Christmas Tex and to all the hardworking wonderful folks of TheBlackPantsLegion. Love you guys and hope you have a happy holiday

3 years late to the party but I'm working my way through. I love your canon way of playing these things, and your ability to make mundane busy work feel like a standup comedy routine. Its a gift, though it aches though to see you not use the Called Shot ability on that AC20.
Scrombles Triple Header!
More to come
Welcome to the company. Here's your coffin.... I mean Marauder. That smell is BBQ not... you know.
Now I could've sworn there was an eject pilot button in the vanilla game for when you're about to lose a mech but want to try and save the meat part.
There 100% is, it's the little red arrow next to the armor/structure readout. It does cost the 'Mech its head, but it will save the meat bits.
Despite the "Kill the meat, save the metal" meme I always found that good pilots are more valuable than the 'Mech bits. You just cannot replace a high-level pilot easily, you've got to train one up a long long time. Lostech weapons are nice of course but a good pilot helps keep the whole machine in one piece.

Hi Tex, I think that Marauder will not live long enough to spend all 6 bins of AC5 ammo, sorry. I just thing it is wasted tonnage. You can add some medium lasers and heatsinks instead.
That Blood on the Risers remix is fucking sweet
Having an Awesome with 3 ppc’s is kind of amazing. Literally just puke out 150 damage and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. And it can punch for like 120. How can you not love it?
Stand-offs like that are why I try to have a pilot or two with sensor lock. Let's my middle boats rek drone safety.
Good God. I don't have enough whisky for all of this awesome.
Hey Tex.
I cannot stress how much you really should explore the Five Large Laser Marauder design. Your Pilots are sufficiently 'advanced' to make fair use of such a design... Especially, it you start actually using the Targeting Bonus of the Morale bonus to enhance Targeting. I just cannot say how useful it becomes with a pair of such Marauders taking out single Mechs every turn, using a total of TEN Large Lasers, with high Gunnery Skills, and the Morale Targeting Bonus for Aimed Shots. Putting points into Tactics to make this work even better, is a good idea.
Also, I would Seriously consider rebuilding the Stalkers to Quad-LRM-15's. LRM-60's, or with a pair of them, making an LRM-120 would seriously 'sandpaper' Enemy Mechs, making the 'coring' of the Marauders even more likely. The Stalkers wouldn't even have to use the Morale boosted 'Aimed Fire' thing. Just Splatter the Foe with missiles, and let the 'Sniper' Marauders do their thing once the Enemy Mech's armor has been sand blasted by the missile Mechs.
I think you'd see your speed of Mech kills advance nearly to the point where it would almost feel 'unfair'. But, this is Battle Tech... and in War, there is NO Such Thing as 'fair'.
speaking Frank-ly
P.S. I cannot stress how much the Morale Bonus to Targeting, using 'Aimed Fire' with FIVE Large Lasers, helps up your 'kill count' per combat 'turn'. Especially with 120 LRMs raining down upon the Foe's pointy little heads.
Your idea to 'fall back to easier prey' to bulk your monetary fund is a good one. Doing so should enable you, if you do this to a couple of 'easy' worlds, to build up enough funds to increase your Lance max tonnage, and eventually, your Lance size as well. Training up a few 'newbies' is also a good thing as well.
I cannot stress enough that you should be using (and even abusing) the Morale Bonus 'Aimed Fire' mechanic to take down Mechs faster. Especially if you go with my ideas about the Quad LRM-15 Stalkers and the Five Lrg Laser armed Marauders.
The Taurians are like dwarves. They will never forget.
Hi frrom MT Tex. I thought I should let you know if you were not aware YT doesn't notify folks of more than 2 videos on any channel on any day. So anymore than 2 video in a 24 hour period and folks will not be notified. Sorry, hope you and the rest of the Legion proper have a merry Christmas. Been a lot of bad news out here as of late but trying to keep my chin up. Thank you and the Legion for what you guys do. I hope you don't mind, but I am currently using 'BPL' as my COD clan tag, in hopes of finding other fans of the channel.
Man that was a rough battle in the badlands against that Awesome. Watching Tex sit all his guys just outside tree cover, or sitting on rough terrain, and then pulling back and giving the enemy advantage of tree cover while being outnumbered.
Can't always be on the A game I suppose my dude.
Tex you can get 4 LRM 15’s on a stalker and then just visit hateful death upon your enemies. It’s also a couple tonne lighter than 3 LRM 20’s so that’s free ammo or armour or m lasers
Tex is right that you need to take these missions with full armor. It's not even an option with anything else. Two, three lances back to back, sometimes simultaneously is an absolute nightmare. Using cover and taking the pilot ability that Grant's an extra 20% is nigh mandatory. The Marauder with the flat 10% is very useful as well. You are constantly being thrown into majorly disadvantaged scenarios because the developers wanted to highlight more use of the Withdraw action. But no one wants to wait 10 minutes loading up a mission, and get another fifteen minutes into the mission just to withdraw with a shit ton of repair bills and no payday. That is not a fun experience for anyone.
I never noticed the shell casings coming out when firing in my games or Scrombles games I have watched...
Stalkers are GREAT!
0:40 you could say that scrombles is a bit scrambled.
I literally hurt when Tex doesn't use precision strike or cover...
Yup, it hurts the spirit
It's unfortunate how much the game relies on exploiting cover and precision shots. It is an optional mechanic made mandatory, so it guides the player into using a specific optimal playstyle. At least Tex's videos try something different, no matter the cost.
@@AncientSlugThrower What??
That's like saying - it's unfortunate there are game mechanics.
@@AncientSlugThrower "Everyone has guns, so try to hide and shoot enemies in the head and stuff" isn't some crazy esoteric bullshit.
You are watching the wrong channel then, my dude.
Something I wonder is I never see you using the one big advantage of the Marauder in this game, utilizing the lance command modules bonus for called shots, making that mech a veritable headshot-sniper at 35% chance of hitting the head, and i wonder why. Is it you don't like the head shot mechanics in this game, as the BattleTech boardgame usually forbids targeting the head and it arguably makes fights very easy by taking out the biggest threat instantly?
Don't take this as critique or back-seating, I am just curious why.
This is an awesome series and it sweetens my days during lockdown ♥
Its because I'm dumb. That's the reason for most of the things I do
i've seen were someone got an arrow4 in modded BT. it fried or killed all his mechs every time because its hit mark is the entire screen...
Only complaint is that the opening/closing song is way louder than the rest of the video. Been that way since the first video in this series :\
Gonna be honest Tex, I prefer the 8T. 2 LRM15’s that can be upsized to LRM20’s and 2 Large Lasers, mmm mmm 😋
Love how Tex ignores resolve abilities.
What do you call armor slag? Mech rinds!
You know there is an eject button and or a precise shot button so you can target locations on enemy mechs right? Gotta use that morale that you earn in the mission. :)
More atlis parts. Always. Even if it neer bankrupts you.
ok "Killfuck Soulshitter" either is a thrash metal band or it should be.
With your focus on missile-boats, I am surprised you never leveled a sensor specialist so that you could stand back and pound them with indirect fire.
You say you're fighting Taurians. But I dont see flatbeds with nukes charging your mechs.
Tex? As much as I like the intro/outro song, the volume difference between those parts and the video itself is ...troubling. If I tune the volume so that i can hear you properly, the intro and outro pretty much blow out my windows.
Merry Christmas Tex
Tex, I officially declare you a Marauder abuser. Don't you realize that this ugly chunk of durasteel is a sniper, not a Solaris VII "No Weapons Derby" mech? It should be safely sniping off heads from behind the bruiser line. I mean this literally. Up to a 35% chance to sink a PPC shot into the head.
Think about it.
Used correctly the Marauder will allow you to stack downed enemy mechs like cord wood.
Or dual ERPPCs and a UAC-5. Absolute winner config.
This is painful. Not your playing but the game itself, watching your best gear and a ton of your pilots just disappearing into the meat grinder, all while not receiving proper intel or compensation? That's the merc's lot in life.
Yes, yes it is. But I also suck at the game
@@theblackpantslegion Here, I will help. My best Stalker build was 2 large lasers 2 medium lasers 2 srm 6's and 2 lrm 5's. You only need 2 tons of srm ammo and 1 ton of lrm ammo. Invest the rest in heat sinks and armor. Something I have noticed is you put too much ammo in your mechs. The average mission lasts like 13 turns. You will only get to fire for maybe ten turns. Having more than 12 turns of ammo is wasted tonnage.
Whats so bad about there being a Phoenix Hawk LAM? If someone wants to drive a lousy mech crossed with a mediocre aerofighter, let 'em.
The irony is that making a Phoenix Hawk a LAM is that it is one of those several designs ripped straight from anime originally and it was an aerospace fighter that transformed into a mech.
Tex, use more vigilance and precision strikes! Did you know that when you use precision strike you have higher hit chance overall? Also, using both gives you better initiative next turn!
Pardon for asking, as I know this vid went up months ago, was recorded long before that and I don't want to sound like an asshole, but I noticed that you don't make much use of skills like Sensor Lock. Given that you favor missile heavy builds, wouldn't it make sense to be using it at every opportunity to rain indirect fire?
Hey Tex, did you play commander on Mplayer? Does black thorn merc unit ring a bell?
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM More Morphine
sorry for nitpicking, but it seem your team sorely needs a Tactician with Sensor Lock, that would drastically increase the hit chances of the lance. but you cant change the past...
I prefer the walls dragons as far as Merc group is concerned
29:15 where’s the long Tom cannon when you need it?
Alternatively, the scout mech on Tex's side. (People always devalue the sniper/scout mech with the recon pilot, but they're so good in situations like this)
So I paused where Tex said he wanted us to guess which it 80 tonner is coming... I Had to google weight classes to remember all the specific 80t mechs...here goes!
In order of likeliness Awesome, Victor, zeus,
I'm hoping for the Zeus! I'm sure Tex wants the Awesome!
avoid 60 ton initiative 1 vehicles at all costs lol
Heh I'm like number 556, that's a nice number, but 762 is much better.
These fights are starting to drag on now.
u have 4+ decent pilots, why u bring a noob like Wallaby lol... no wonder she died -.- Marauders arent Fronntline mechs sadly, against what Lore tells us, sadly -.- and yes, i know how tempting it is to throw it to the frontlines and make its firepower bare, but it wont work -.-
against what my comment might sounds like, i realy enjoy the Scrombles series ^^ just saying lol
Tex, stop making excuses.
Both of your Marauders have less firepower than a Griffin and your archer is a one-trick pony and it's only the mid-game. You're not going to have enough firepower to do anything but take a beating over and over again while churning through pilots. Putting six tons of ammo for two AC5s is the DUMBEST thing I've ever seen anyone do in this game. You wind up with a marauder with a single gun that has less firepower than a hunchback and just dies anyway.
Also, redundancy is your friend. You have 18 mech bays available, use them. If you had redundancy, even just a tricked out Griffin or Wolverine or Hunchback. A K model wolverine with a ppc, two medium lasers and an SRM6 can do more work than anything you've put on a marauder and if you had a couple of those in your back pocket, you wouldn't be waiting for most of a month to be ready for another job.
Also, pay attention to how you train your pilots. You need someone with high tactics for your missile boats. That makes it so that they can fire indirectly with little loss of accuracy. You just click on stuff.
Try this: If it sounds like a good idea, assume that it isn't and do the opposite. You do need to leverage significant firepower in order to come through with a clear victory in this game. LRMs don't count, they're good for sandblasting armor off but they lack the ability to put burst damage on a single location.
And for the love of god, keep your finger off of the maximize armor button. All that will do is suck all of the weight you need for weapons out of your mech. Up-armoring is always a plus but take the five seconds needed to look at a location and say we can add a ton or two where it's weak.
Oh! And when a pilot is down to one flamer because their only guns (Two AC5s) are destroyed because all of the firepower was in one location? It's time to eject that pilot. You'll save a pilot and money on repairs.
Stow the salt, this entire campaign has already been recorded.
@@EgorKaskader no u
