Getting crushed by a dropship is a Discount Dan commercial waiting to happen. I can hear him in my head lol... “Eyy did you or a family member get crushed in the line of duty? Did you get DFA’d by a dropship from above? Eyy no worries. Have I got a deal for you...”
"Have you or a family member been crushed by a drop ship? Then you could be owed compensation..."
Don't blame them. The DropShip saw your Highlander DFAing the Enforcer and were like "That ain't a DFA, *this* is a DFA!"
*reduces Awesome to two dimensions*
Battletech, the Tale of Scrombles
Episode 18: *Crushed by Leopard.*
Well, Tex. You should have paid attention to "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and the sign in the Planning Office clearly stating "Beware the Leopard". LOL
I once had a pilot named Cockroach that was in a panther that got landed on by a dropship, game glitched and it came down a turn early, destroyed every section of the mech. At the end of the mission though, the pilot survived and spent the next 90 days in the hospital...lucky bugger.
Hell of a tale to tell at bars. "One time a DropShip landed on my mech with me in it. Still can't believe I lived"
He truly earned his callsign that day
@@andrew3038 every year on his birthday the crew buys him a can of Raid XD
He should have been piloting a locust
When the client lands on and crushes your mech killing the pilot. That’s when you say “ok well we are getting all of the salvage on the battlefield anything of value inside the base and that big drop ship you killed my pilot with. Oh and bring the pilot of that thing out I’ll have a firing squad ready in a couple of minutes.
I mean, not parking in a landing spot with tiles marked and a popup warning about "imminent destruction" is somewhat helpful in that regard.
@@EgorKaskader Yeah, but somethimes I think the landing pad is one too large.
@@DIEGhostfish while true, you can see at 31:25 ish that the Awesome was moved onto a marked square.
@@EgorKaskader I once had to reload a Roguetech save and lose VERY good loot because a mech one hex out of the marked zone got squashed.
@@DIEGhostfish I can't say I was ever close enough to a landing site to have that issue, but it could also just be a Roguetech thing...
31:55 Tex: "And now it is time...for a Highlander Burial."
32:33 Tex: "I think another one's in order. DFA! DFA!"
32:52 Darius: "Let me get some of that action!"
32:55 The moment you're all here to see. Glory, glory, what a hell of a way to die!
"Oh my god."
Blue on blue!
his own leopard crushed his awesome, blames pirates
That was something.
@@megas64 After parking said mech in the landing zone.
That Scrombles is out there. He can't be bargained with. He can't be reasoned with. He doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And Scrombles absolutely will not stop, ever, until he gets distracted by something shiny!
Nothing shinier than a mech, or a tank, or ooh look a bright laser beam flashing at me!
If there's one thing i truely Admire in you is your composure. I'd would have raged so hard at getting my awesome cubed.
yup. same here. but i d reload just to avoid losing pilot and so much equipment.
@@deadwolf2978 Agreed, I'd have savescummed immediately.
@@DIEGhostfish not really savescumming at that point... There was litterally NO indicator of where that damn dropship was going to come down... It just apeared in the middle of his formation.... I am not even playing the game and I raged at that.... That is honestly utterly stupid....
and it wasn't even the pirates.... that was his own damn jumpship.... That just crushed his own assault mech and killed hollywood....
@@thehunter5475 yeah that's a badly programmed mission they should have had some highlight or have the drop ship land somewhere off the map.
Jessus christ..i felt that pain for the Awsome.....
If they gave you any warning where they would land that wouldn't be so infuriating.
@@CyphrSonic well..they sort off do.. the dropoff is marked by severale red dots
He stood against Scrombles. Doesn't look good on your resume.
Well ,just did the Red Hunt flash misson, and lets just say im going to war on ONE of the great Houses in responce. Well..you cant do it..but I CAN take anny contract against the particulare house as payback.
@@Drakenfoul I guess if one of the great houses, even one of the small ones, decided Punk Ass Mercenary Inc. needed their shit pushed in, their shit would be pushed right in. Would YOU want to fight House Steiner? I wouldn't even tangle with Marik.
Not gonna lie, I'd have mulligan'd when they glitched onto the mechs like that.
The ONLY mech I lost my entire ironman Arano campaign was when a dropship landed on top of one of my mechs. And no, the drop zone was NOT marked. Thanks Sumire. Flipping failed cell phone technician.
Those red circles on the map are a hard lesson.
Sometimes the map fails to generate them until after the dropship has smashed your mech. That's REALLY annoying. :P
@@shawngillogly6873 Not this time though.
Tex - Parks his mechs in an LZ "How could they land on me?" lol
I saw those hexes lit up in red: "shit, Tex isn't paying attention".

i ve found new kind of meditation: listening to Tex playing Battletech :)
[ Highlander ] DFA ! DFA !
[ Drop Ship Pilot ] Roger, Copy, Over.
[ Everyone Else ] We didn't mean you.
I was so lucky to have picked up two injury cockpit mods early in this game, pilot injuries can be one of the most annoying things in this game when your good pilot takes a random bit of flack to the dome but is otherwise untouched by anything.
With regard to the "incident" at 32:55, this is precisely why I've started referring to these videos as "The Misadventures of Scrombles the MechWarrior in Periphery Land"! Lol, as much as it sucked (and personally I would have totally save-scummed about it), I have to admit it was pretty hilarious! Thanks for the great video and stay safe out there!
"So why do they call you Pankcakes?"
"Well I used to be a dropship pilot."
"Used to?"
"Well I didn't get the name "Pancakes" fer nuthin."
Ooooof.
And any mech jockey that survive such a significantly emotional event would be renamed to Roach, Cockroach or Horsefly, because they just couldn't be swatted XD
Respect for not reloading after that "crushing" moment.
That K2 catapult looked like it turned into some sorta of demon mech when it overheated
I'm watching you seal club these locusts and I'm imagining repeated PPC hits ripping through the upper torso until there's just a pair of legs standing there in the snow...
That's why you shouldn't skip leg day, especially on a Highlander.
Though it eas the awesome that got squashed, not the Highlander
Archangel needs to change his name to Bullet Sponge lol
Also RIP Hollywood. She was a great pilot
The game *does* indicate the zones where a dropship is going to land on you. Admittedly, it's another thing that's not very well tutorialized.
Yeah, I got squashed like a bug a couple times before I figured out the red movement points are not where you want to be.
@@adeptronic Being red green colorblind, I can never see it.
@@1darkthought Oh, that must make many missions difficult for you. How many mechs have you lost to dropships and artillery?
Usually. Yes. It is something that occasionally glitches. To my chagrin.
It also has a tag over the terrain saying that the drop ship is going to land there. Not the pirate's fault. That was Sumire, and it can happen on any mission.
And what have we learned today don't stand on little red triangles
*dies in flashy and bizarre way*
Hollywood lived up (and died) to her name
What a turn of events with that drop ship 😂😂.
When in doubt PPC out- Scrombles answer to any multiple choice test
32:34 DFA, DFA! Wait, no not US! Scrunch goes the mechwarrior. You asked for it...
3 new episodes today... I hereby propose we rename this day (last Sunday of the year), Super Scrombles Sunday. I would require a second for this.
32:52 That's why militaries clear the landing zone when helicopters and aircraft come in.
Spit out my drink when the DS pilot flattened your Awesome.🤣🤣🤣
I left the gauss and DHs in the Highlander. The thing can jump farther than it can move in a normal turn. Just kept it jumping around to keep the evasion up.
The Dropship got a DFA. That is awesome! I hope he paint a kill mark with the Mac on the side of that Dropship.
I have never seen a mech lost to a drop ship before. I did wonder why Tex was slugging it out in the drop-zone. :D
From his reaction, I am guessing he didn't see the red placement icons showing the drop-zone hazard.
Possible Tex is a little red color blind. I worked in Research & Development for awhile and if we wanted to slip something passed the Asst. Factory Manager that was needed but didn't want to argue the point for a week, we'd just make the notation in red ink hand it to him for sign off. LOL
@@charlesborden8111 now that you say it, that does tickle the memory banks. I think you are right. :)
I'd've been absolutely *lit* losing all of that equipment because of that damn dropship. fuck... sake... I'd be very unhappy.
Your own dropship crushed your awesome, not the pirates.
Bless his heart. Ah no we call that glutton for punishment.
The feelings of rage from that by dropship maneuver has inspired me an idea for a army of Mercs turned pirate.
Though I'm thinking in my version it will be Capellans who caused the mess.
You know, considering the original models for the Marauder, Warhammer and Phoenix Hawk all came from Macross originally, with the Marauder's inspiration being an alien command mech, it's rather noteworthy that your Marauders keep blowing up Warhammers and Phoenix Hawks. Then again, the Archer was based on a hand-to-hand mech from the same series. (The aliens were, after all, ten times human height...)
And yes, this is why the Phoenix Hawk was used for LAMs; the mech they were based on, the Valkyrie Fighter, was a transformable jet. Make of that what you will.
Arbiter is a fine mechwarrior, deserving of your respect. And perhaps Tex will learn to battletech... eventually. ;)
As long as fun is had, I guess.
my callsign for any AWESOME that isn't a 3ppc or a 4PPC awesome is a "mediocre", unless it has ammunition, in which case it gets called a "meh"
33:35 at least the Rangefinder survived.
Yeah...... probably should reload after the drop ship fiasco. We wouldn't blame you.
AllI could picture the Hunback pilot saying was: And then I fired and then fired and then I missed, I missed both times, I reloaded but I missed!
Ya that happened once to me, my sniper took up overwatch and it turned out to be a landing pad, lol
So, can we all agree that Dropship pilots are the ultimate at pulling off dfa's?
Tale of Tex not looking at the Red Movement Spots at say 31:34 or 31:55 thru 31:57....The only thing funnier would have been if it had hit 2 more of your mechs.
Dude, those things are subtle. I totally missed them too.
Death by dropship ... that's usually the kind of thing that happens when you piss off the DM.
TEX: DFA! DFA! DFA!...
Highlander: Ha ha ha... Death from above! We are doing the meme! Ha ha ha...
Leopard: ruclips.net/video/O73f1s4-sjk/видео.html
I mean... the timming was brilliant. That leopard just wanted to fit in.
Hey Tex.
I hope you saw my previous suggestions about re-arming your Mechs. As to the Pirates... Those have to be the most successful pirates, in like, ever... ALL their Mechs were at 100 percent, optimal condition, full weaponry, AND full armoring.
That you would expect from House Units. Other Mercs, and some of the Lesser Houses. But Pirates? Really?
I agree that the game could use some 'change up'... Instead of the Argo, Perhaps another small Drop Ship other than a Leopard. Or allow the Player to start with a Union. Broken down, crapped out, like the Argo... still.
A start point somewhere inside one of the major houses perhaps, depending upon your choices when making up your personal character.
For maximal replay-ability, establishing excellent relations with a House gains your Merc Unit that House's Favor to set up a home world and start establishing it, Buying a 'Patent of Nobility'... So the Player can 'invest' in things like Mech Factories, Vehicle Factories, Population increases, population morale bonus generating items (parks, hospitals, schools, Memorial Cemetery, etc), as well as a Trade Factor with Trade Routes, and possible Pirate Trade Route(s), amongst other things.
First your Mercs are all about expanding the 'stable' of Mechs, and repairing their Drop Ship... then Establishing a Colony World, and expanding it... With the eventual Goal of becoming (depending upon the expansions of your Colony World at the end of the game) a Duke, Earl, Barron, or just a plain old Knight (rank names change per House type).
I have NO idea how hard all this would be to program. But, I feel it would add to the RPG feel of the game.
just a few thoughts,
Speaking, Frank-ly
I think you're right, but I aint a programmer
If the pilot is named Cletus, he only gets to fly suicide missions, or to pick up the ex wife in the drop ship. So far, Cletus has racked up 17 suicide missions.
Have no fear Tex, I too have had a dropship flatten a mech. In my case a Grasshopper, lost an all 9 pilot in the process. I didn't lose the Double Heatsinks, but I did lose 4 ML++ and 2 LL +++. So I do feel your pain. I also lost to our "beloved(?)" princess, as she came in hot into the third or fourth to last mission.
41:05 I've come to think of the Banshee as the squishy wizard of the party. It's best hanging back from the worst heat and casting PPCs, UAC 20s and LB20Xs from the rear rank.
Somehow the black market came across a slightly dented double heat sinks.
Warhammers... A love story to those that love screwing up everything in the battlefield.. love them!! I'm working to have a full lance of them... Lol!!
Not going to lie Tex, I would have Save Scummed Reloaded to get all of the sweet goodness that was on that Awesome & the pilot.
But it was funny at the same time. I'm sorry for the loss of such parts... oh and I guess of the pilot as well.
Tex. If you had wanted to replay that mission where the pilot landed on your Awesome and squashed it, and killed your pilot. We'd have totally understood.
The DFA gods have been watching. You have been punished by the ultimate DFA for your crimes of not enough DFA!
I’ll see your Highlander Burial and raise you one DFA by drop ship.
*Crunch* "Y'all hear sumthin?"
Tex as a guy who makes a living with multi ton machines flying overhead.... WTF always keep an eye on the sky! The fly boys literally look down on you, then there's that thing we all hate, GRAVITY!
If that was sumiri then that I would ask her to take a breathalyzer test because friends don't let friends drop
that really needs to be clipped with that really funny end of credits song after that.
As we said in the olden days; w00t!
32:50 "BLOODY PIRATES!"
O_o
That dropship death came out of nowhere.
Aaand that's why you pay attention to the red markers on the tiles warning of imminent destruction of whatever steps into them...
You should still be able to purchase from Taurian stores (but at significant markup due to rep). But remember that only populated planets have stores.
You want the Banshee SE, it's a bit slower but you can make it a fearsome melee mech. 2 arm mods that give you the 1 ton 50 damage on a punch you get a total 250 damage slapdown with however many ER Small lasers you can fit, the ones that give 40 damage a piece.
4:35 Whammer's a serious mech. Does hefty damage and can take a spanking.
Oh hi marik
I swear I did not hit her
I did not

Supposedly took 32 times to get that scene right. Let that sink in. Also someone really does read comments!
Re: dropship crush -- THE DANGER ZONE WAS CLEARLY FUCKING MARKED!!! WHAT IN THE CINNAMON TOAST FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU, TEX?!!!
I know this is three months late, but I cracked up at the dropship flattening your mech. DFA is super effective when done by dropship. Heh
Don't crush me...Oh My God!
When the cataphract was the 1x model with fancy tech slapped on it.
So when I started playing HBS BattleTech I too got all my Mech squished and pilots killed by my own drop ship at missions end... Yeah I kinda rage quit and didn't play for about a month.
Its not like the taurians to hold a grudge.
Somehow I feel the pain in your voice.
Watching this in my phone as my pc, isdown. Can definitely hear a vape
yes
Gotta love those unfixed bugs, that'll never be fixed... Thanks, Parasite Interactive!
He just wanted to get in on that DFA action
Tex, I love your content but it is painful to watch you ignore things like the range arc (which includes minimum range so you don't always have 30% to hit chance with LRMs) and the hazard pips on the ground where game is tell you the drop ship is going to land. I know you recorded this months ago but it is painful.
bothers me more that he doesnt use the called shot ability more which boosts all accuracy when used.
Losing a pair of LosTech double heat sinks because your mech pilot stood under the Leopard may be the most periphery thing I have ever seen
The black market is always worth the investment, and staying on the good side of the pirates is worth it, for the better prices
Should try running the new Roguetech - get some AEROSPACE assets in here, like the Ifrit [non-sarna] Gunship.
How was that Cyclops hit by that PPC? It was completely hulldown!!
30 seconds in and I have to find and play '"early morning st@$ed pimpin" by kid rock. Imagining scrombles side gig outside the cockpit. Good times. Cheers Tex. Praise zorg sir, praise zorg!
Gauss Rifle++???!!!! What the actual Comstar is that doing on any market?
The only thing left of that mech was it's cockpit, You'd think the pilot would be fine but I guess if the CT goes it doesn't matter.
Edit: And it also doesn't surprise me the first time you work for pirates is also the last.
The pilot was expendable, they were a newbie. The PPCs weren't special, you have 12 more. The double heatsinks and the repair bill, though? Damn. That's rough. I agree that it's so ridiculous that it's funny, but still. Ouch. And it was your Awesome, too! You'd _just_ gotten it!
EDIT: Also, the Black market didn't have _one_ Atlas. They had _two._
Afaik, he didn't put any DHS on it, it was just a bog standard 8Q plus a range finder that survived.
There was at least one, maybe two. In the center torso, iirc.
Nice
Scrombles PUNCH
I never can bring myself to use the cyclops in its prescribed brawler role, it's too valuable for its lance buff so I tend to just keep it way back with a Gauss, LRMs, and LLs.
I use mine as a LRM 50 mount.
Planet Smithon, I don't suppose it has a moon or neighboring planet named Wesson?
Is it just me or does Arbiter's pilot profile picture look like a slightly modified real life streamers...he a supporter for the game or something?
