Re: the enemy mechanic -- that sounds awesome, I agree. I would say that one (or several) lances hired by your enemies have a chance to show up on any non-story mission you undertake and try to just murder you. How strong they are and the chance for them to show up is dictated by who you pissed off and how much. Taking out one of these teams would reduce the threat level a lot; running would reduce it a bit. It reminds me of the NCR/Legion hit teams from Fallout:NV in concept.

Sure, other weapons systems can give you longer range or indirect fire but it's a bit meaningless in the game. Well, except for STAB MLs are/were the best dmg-to-weight ratio and could concentrate well with Focus Fire (I think that's what it's called, been playing a lot of RT).
It still works in MWO to a degree. Take ghost heat into account and you'll see that different ML spams hold their own. I was running 6xML Cicada a couple nights ago and scoring top dmg. with the factions - maybe for Battletech 2:
There is the standard MRBC contracts like this game has, but also an option to directly approach representatives of the factions to negotiate more particular or specialized contracts based upon your reputation with them.
Like a really good reputation may have you doing a planetary campaign for them (4-5 mission mini-story campaign with related objectives over each mission.)
Or if you are in bad with that particular faction you can pay a bribe to approach the representatives to negotiate improved relations in some way, Either paying off some damages, giving them particular equipment they want or by doing some dirty jobs for shit pay, just to prove you are genuine in you interest to make good.
At which point they may also give you redemption mini-quest which is a few missions long, before they allow you to take their standard mission again.

A small modification I made to my runs of BT was to unlock the flashpoints before the campaign story finishes (and the full map movement needed to get to some of them) by editing a file by adding a pair of tags into the text. It just sets the flags to activate flash points and map movement, I set it up so it happens after the Argo is acquired. It doesn’t really effect balance or difficulty in my opinion and more importantly allows flashpoint to be run when they are actually useful or relevant, (and not going to just drop 4 assault mech on every target or have to reassemble a lighter lance for the weight restricted drops from scratch). And the added side effect of allowing the few mechs locked behind flashpoints to filter out and see use. I unfortunately can’t remember exactly what and where off the top of my head but they should be a simple matter of google of exact details. I realise this is much too late to probably be useful for this run, but might be useful if you do another campaign run.

"This thing gets way too hot way too quick"
I know this is potentially several months late, but you could probably solve that with a heat exchanger +++ and a heat bank +++
Though i've only ever found that kind of gear on the black market, in terms of heat output an exchanger on 20% would be better than an extra heatsink (3.6) meaning your heat per shot would be 14.4, throw in some extra dualies that can be purchased on kimi (though only one at a time and for 600kish each) and you've got a pretty cool runner, i've done it with a black knight and an all-energy (mostly) warhammer 6-R all up to pretty close to 7-8 heat efficiency.
I'm also seeing a disturbing lack of ultra ac's here, they get tonnage modifiers that mean you can carry more of them :P

I really noticed the muscles I'd built by carrying around all that extra weight 24/7/365...
And, even at 152kg and 184cm, I was fit enough to do the equivalent of an in-range featured Finnish brutality obstacle course in full army kit, and still hit my targets.
(Though my thighs, calves and hips ached and all I heard under my hearing protection was the rush and thumps of my own blood stream almost muffling the firing sounds of the next militia buddy out on the course)
My total weight with kit back then was about 215kg... more than enough to set off the most basic AT landmine by walking onto it's trigger...

It's not entirely unreasonable for the pirates to widely decide to shut out your company. You've done of a lot missions against the various pirates, to the point that you are a probable threat to them wherever you're operating. Sure you took out a competitor las week, but you took out allies the month before.
There's also the fact that large pirate confederations do have historical precedence.

While there core of this game is really solid, I do wish there was some more variety with faction/mission stuff. I like the idea of more than mid-mission curve balls, like accidentally running into a 3rd party/Kurita continuing to kill steal from you because mercs. The first mission does a great job of setting up the idea of like "what if your allies betray you", maybe if you try to haggle for too much salvage/money, or like what happened to poor Hit man, if something horrible happens to one of your Mechwarriors, you can guilt the employer for more money. Originally I thought that they had different pirate factions for different systems, because in the captains quarters they specifically call them the Agurian pirates. There was even one mission where the factions randomly team up, and over the coms someone said "this is a joint Pirate Pirate operation, back off mercs!". Sadly it is still one pirate faction whither you are in the perephery or not.
Also the one edit I did changed it so that they still offer you 1.5 skull missions even if they hate you , just so that it is easier to dig yourself out of that hole. And from now on, if I ever get a Pirate vs Local Government mission I always do those for basically no money to keep my reputation passable.

17:23 the difficult part is normally defending the convoy while it sits in front of a dropship. For some reason enemies didnt move for a whole turn and that made the mission so easy. Yesterday I had opposite problem. Convoy got to dropship, enemies spawned, they immediately got another turn and blew convoy sky high before I even had an option to move, much less to defend. Was fairly annoying (2nd part of Kell Hounds flashpoint if anyone wonders where it happened).

Tex, your fake scots accent is worse than mine, and I say that as an englishman who once got told by a scots woman that if I ever made that horrific noise claiming to impersonate her accent again she'd rip my balls off....
Seperately, I fully agree with you regarding RPGs and other games.
While fetch quests CAN exist in games, and in fact make great tutorials for crafting systems if they exist, they aren't something enjoyable as a major gameplay loop...

Agreed on the pirates being one faction is dumb point. I like trying to think about how to fix that issue, maybe adjusting how the pirate faction tracks your relationship with them to represent the different groups perceiving you differently? Having an absolute ton of individual pirate factions is another way but I feel that would just bog down a ton of the game as you wonder which backwater militia with half a jenner you've pissed off and which you've befriended.

Dark Fate... as much as I really want a good Terminator movie besides the first two... no... Hell, T3 was bad, but watchable. Salvation was dull, Genysis was just fucking with the terminator timelines, Dark Fate... its like being fucking gutted. Then they shove some replacement guts and say its better...

    • @ScorpiusZA.
      @ScorpiusZA. 3 года назад +1

I didn't mind T3 that much. Wasn't good, but wasn't awful either. Salvation was set in a period I was looking forward to - could have been better but I didn't mind, but Genysis is when it all went wrong and Dark Fate.... the trailer put me off. And by all accounts, I didn't miss anything.

If/when you get to play with heavy metal items, I found the LB10x to be perfect for the Annihilator. You can't really target anything specific but the total damage is stupid. Throw on a couple DHS and medium lasers and you basically have a fully armoured form of the original Star League Annihilator.

1:17:27 - Pity you're not using mods for this run, I think there's a mod that disconnects rep from what missions you can take (I checked, it's called "Alternative Reputation") so you can take better missions even if that side hates you (just at significantly reduced pay). Personally though I agree that, like the local government, generic Pirates should've always been neutral.
1:31:15 - Tex talks about how he needs to use evasion to keep crappy lights alive, then proceeds to shoot at the heavy turret without any evasion... right, it was Scrombles leading this team.

I think primary thing when Jack prices like that is going to upset diff curve. Sure same gear maybe devs factored in have by certain points in game is out there but short of salvaging really good stuff in field you’re essentially the freebie player in a pay to win MMO.
Which is basically a long winded way of saying very accurate to the reality of being a periphery merc company lol
