    The Atlas and Highlander are my two favorite Assault Mechs. The Atlas for its sheer destructive power, and the Highlander because nothing says, "You're an asshole!" , like a 90 ton Mech performing a death from above on a Medium Mech.😁

    • @TheCrackedFirebird
      @TheCrackedFirebird 4 года назад +6

      I tend to not use Assaults too often though Highlander is my choice. I also prefer mix lances depending on the era. Post Clan Invasion, A Madcat MKii, A pair of Maddogs, and an Atlas or Highlander if I can get the chance. Atlas kinda becomes my fall back if a Highlander isn't/can't be used.

    Looking at the standard design of the Atlas and noting the missile racks right under the cockpit..... Of course this was designed by a Russian. Gotta uphold the Legacy of the Russian Tank design in which a hit to the lower turret instantly detonates all ammo under said turret causing it to go flying off.

    Minor issue with location of weapons. Unlike mwo in Battletech TRO 3025 and 3050, both point out the LRM-20 of the AS7-D is actually in the hip. The Atlas K makes note that the hip housing for the old LRM 20 with its 5 tubes was kept because they didn't have time to design a replacement part for that section. The SRM 6 with its 6 tubes is on the chest. Atlas K "upgraded" to two racks of ten from the single rack of 5.

    At 4:45 or so, you have lines pointing at wrong weapons: SRM 6 is up on the chest and LRM 20 is near the hip. Yes, the 5 holes shoot total of 20 missiles within 10 seconds. Let me see my original TRO3025:
    "The Atlas' long-range missile delivery system is a unique design. Upon discovering that 20 launching tubes would not fit into the 'Mech's torso, the designers decided to install five tubes with a feed system that can shoot four salvos within ten seconds."

    • @theblackpantslegion
      @theblackpantslegion  6 лет назад

      Matti Kuokkanen oh, I saw that but my editor is now on vacation. Yeah, I do remember the LRM setup as being volley fire than sequential fire, and fairly uncommon at that. But cool.

    I know this is a long time after this video was posted to leave a comment, but I just got an idea after seeing the picture of the FedCom Atlas in this video and I absolutely refuse to use Twitter; I think you could make a spectacular video about Katrina Steiner's peace proposal at the end of the 3rd Succession War, her meetings with Hanse Davion, the Lyran Commonwealth/Federated Suns treaty, Hans and Melissa's wedding on Terra and how it launched the 4th Succession War (including how it cut the Capellan Confederation in half) and the subsequent rise and fall of the Federated Commonwealth. With maybe a brief overview of the War of 3039 in the middle.
