Whisper is a quiet person?
We're talking military call signs here. Can see his interview now..
Tex: "Nice to meet you Whisper."
Whisper: "NICE TO MEET YOU SIR."
Tex *blinks* "Let me guess...former Artilleryman?"
whisper: SAY AGAIN, SIR?
“The enemy can’t hear you sneaking up on them if you can’t hear, either”
@@toobin8r Sun-tzu is boundlessly wise in all things.
Helepolis pilot sir!
That, or a tanker
"Go poke the clanners"
Sounds like someone's getting a Clan wife again, or however they do it over there.
Professor Tex needs to make money cuz if he had any kids with that Clanner wife he needs to pay the child support or else she's going to rip off the other arm.
@@mikecampos1193 The implication that you have to pay child support to your clanner wife while you're STILL MARRIED TO HER for fear of physical violence is very funny.
@@miniondaechir you either pay child support or you beat her (sexual) and good luck doing that without being a clanner yourself
I will never get tired of Tex enthusiastically talking about robits
I’m so glad you’re back to playing battle tech. As a gamer who doesn’t own a computer, I live vicariously through you and others like you 😁👍
I hope you get a computer some day bruh
@@eddapultstab2078 Hopefully soon. I’ve been saying ‘It’ll be this year’ for the last 3 years but it’ll definitely be next year 😂
Well as long as my kids are fed and I’ve got a roof over my head, a computer can wait 👍
Don't want to assume what your financial situation is like but if you don't need a full power desktop the SteamDeck can reliably run HBS Battletech (mods are possible but tricky to get working). Refurbed base model is 270usd, new is 350, there'll likely be a 20% off sale soon for black Friday.
@@DarkRavenhaft cheers dude, had completely forgotten those were a thing. I’ll have to have a serious look into them as the whole computer thing was on the back burner. 🙂
I remember those days ❤
My first Mechwarrior character was awarded the callsign "Cannonball" after inadvertently landing on the CT of a heavy that had fallen down on the battlefield. It was his first kill, and looked amazingly badass. Especially considering it was a complete accident.
“Holy shit! Awesome kill man.”
“Oh I uh…” *Looks down at the mangled wreckage they caused* “…y-yeah that’s as completely intentional. Totally didn’t just fumble the controls, yup.”
Solid callsign and reason for it.
The Clans making The Great Father into their Spongebob Squarepants is something I never knew I wanted to see once in my life.
I'd probably die of cringe if I saw it twice, but I'd die smiling.
I want ALL the LYRICS to this SONG! 🤣
3:48
Vanzam militia gots a good thing going. Send out a handful of expendable meat. A somewhat competent commander (he can write his name) and a lance of urbies. If they complete their tour they got some money and new better mechs. And if they die … well they lost some urbies
Hey Discount Dan vouched for those urban mechs.
at about 20:00 when your pilot fell over - she bled out. The First Aid thing only stops the bleeding for a couple of turns, and needs to be reapplied repeatedly.
Ngl I would've made the same mistake. 183 turns to 0? Tf?
@@djbiscuit1818well the ridiculous amount is probably to make it essentially infinite. Tho imo the bleed out is too fast. And it gets really op when you build an lrm 10(clan for even less weight) and get a pilot to 10 gunnery so he can aim for parts when precision firing. Almost always triggers a bleed and you can effectively ignore a mech and get all 4 parts, because AI never applies 1st aid. It only ever stops working on 4+skull missions when AI gets ridiculous lostech mechs every time and they have all the lifesaving cockpit mods.
Played a bit of co-op with a buddy of mine through steam's remote play. One particular mission had us interrupt a scuffle between The Bounty Hunter and Black Widow. My buddy brought a Davy Crockett. The two of them were reduced to slinging foul language at each other as their mechs shut down and their lance mates exploded from the several rounds of heat produced by a localized fission event.
The Great Father as the Clan's Spongebob doesn't seem so outlandish when one recalls the Clans do canonically have a kid show of anthropomorphic characters teaching Clan values to the sibkids.
Good ole Clan Spaniel
Well Tex, been waiting for this, and yes Deleting Grid squares is the best way to deal with Enemy lite mechs.
Only issue i have with BTA at all is that if you get a Clan mech the AI will target that thing to the exclusion of all others. I had a Kitfox that was running away they tried to destroy but ignored the Atlas that walked over to them and showed the real meaning of the Stiener fist.
The AI likes to target the thinnest armor.
That usually means Clan mechs.
@@patrickkenyon2326 Which is weird because Clanners can actually afford to max out the armor on their mechs.
@@Ozymandias2x But " Max" is still paper.
Look at the back armor on a Mad Cat.
@@patrickkenyon2326 That's a deliberate design decision, not a limitation of their armor capacity.
@@Ozymandias2x Yeah, I get it.
But designs optimized for one on one duelling do not work in a furball.
Sure, strip back armor to add more weapons.
But don't be surprised when you lose a heavy to a Flea running behind you.
Flea as the only enemy mission is the best ending for a video.
Excellent video. Glory to Marik.
Playing BTA with Tex's voice while listening to Tex play BTA is my favorite Inception moment.
Texception if you will
@@Digiarcstudio Spot on!
Makes me want to go back and listen to the Scrombles episodes.
@@AndrewJoyce86 Scrombles smash play on playlist. Hate scorp'n. But scrombles like playthrough. Had own special bed in hospital. Much comfy.
I look forward to the debut of "spongebob kerensky" in the iTunes charts.
Yeah, that medical ability has to be triggered every other turn to keep a pilot like that up and running... otherwise they just bleed out in the cockpit. So it's heal, move, heal, move. Not your fault, it's not exactly an explained thing that the medical ability doesn't completely patch up a pilot unless you read every little description the game offers.
Best of luck in this playthrough Tex, looking forward to watching this.
Van zandt company D being an unpainted meme lance makes me think about unloved tabletop miniatures
The grey legion is eternal
Recruitment checklist;
1. Do you believe in the Tooth Fairy?
2. Have you any idea which end of that thing should be pointing at the enemy?
3. Are you, or have you ever been indebted to Discount Dan?
Imagine how many drunks and murder hobo are in the Van Zandt Milita door
"Oh this is a promising start". master of understatement Tex, as ever great line. thanks. 😆
I can’t think of Urbies anymore without thinking of the utterly absurd variant of a UM-R60 that I created in MW5 with the YAML mod. The weapons loadout wasn’t too out there - Two Medium Lasers & an AC/5 - but I also equipped it with a *comically,* stupidly overpowered (for an UrbanMech) XL engine.
The result? An Urbie that was *rocketing* around the battlefield at just north of 100 km/h.
Oh, if you want an absurd variant....Rocketpod Urban mechs UM-R25 have SO much rocketspam. Fortunately the AI is prone to firing them early before they have a good target...but not always.
Often Supported by the scariest mech weapon in the game(For AI. it's not so good for you.). The COIL. A weapon that's damage and heat production (especially heat) is proportional to how much evasion charges you have. The mech has basically nothing onboard except engine. It can run like a jenner on meth and when it gets close enough will potentially dump 300damage into a single location of your mech
Oh....and then the urbie immediately explode. It's kinda suicidal from the heat. You WILL lose a mech the first time you encounter one.
@@jamesdejager4938 Lmao. That's incredible
Try the 'Super Royal Urbanmech'. XL 150 engine, Double Heat Sinks, Ferro Fibrous armour, ER PPC, M Pulse, Guardian ECM, Supercharger.
Solve all your problems with Urbanmech until your only remaining problem is Urbanmech!
I like the idea of expanding the pilot injuries. But at the same time, the way RNGesus in this game deals out pilot injuries, this is also a terrifying mechanic.
It could use some mitigation as an option. It's a bit insane to bleed out every time a mech falls.
Commander-It's time CHARGE. Uban mech 1- Sir we're Urbies we don't charge we MEANDER WITH PURPOSE.
6:30 Isn't it a common theory that that why the Argo is not taken away from us by Comstar is because Dr Murad is a ROM agent and already has de-facto control of the ship.
Pretty much.
Doctor gives you a fun side mission. You end up fighting a ton of Raptor omni mechs.
I love that you said “my main objective is to roll over to clanner space and be belligerent” that’s literally the only thing I do in this game 😂😂 make my way to clanner space and be belligerent.
Hearing "Good enough" in that voice, followed by some great BT gameplay made my morning.
HBS Battletech reminds me of Cyberpunk 2077 in that it was a labor of love for the artists that has beautiful assets behind a janky game engine.
The engine is fine. Their code just happens to be spaghetti. Which is, honestly, why it's a good thing they're not getting another shot. I'd rather have another BT game made by people who know what they're doing.
@@maxgehtdnixan4913yeah, I feel the love put into the project, but the memory leaks are rough on my computer. Still glad for the game, though.
@@dynamicworlds1 Yeah, my issue is not the unwillingness to properly patch it up, but the inability to. You really noticed the game was a complexity grade above what the studio could properly handle.
@@maxgehtdnixan4913 They only really managed one patch, to deliberately disable a mod that offended them.
@@DIEGhostfish Which mod was that?
Well, this has singlehandedly convinced me to try out 3062.
And that Urbanmech squad is...about as effective as expected. 10/10, they're doing their best.
HBS actually asking for a sequel and Paradox saying no has got to be one of the biggest let downs I've had in years. I used to be a big fan of Paradox too and this has turned me right around the other way.
Once again thanks Mr Tex for introducing me to the battletech lore / universe.
As a side note since the Hunchback video dropped in my latest run i am aiming for at least one lance of only hunchback variants. Of course this run i barely found any while before i was tripping over them every other mission :)).
With all due respect, the *CH* in "Strana Mechty" is pronounced exactly as *CH* pronounced in word "cheese". This is due to the fact that word "Mechta" is a russian word "Мечта" ("Dream"), and you can listen to pronunciation in google translator easily.
For some reason not a single person in english-speaking BT community was able to pronounce it right, to the point where i think it's intentional. Not that it matters at all, it's just sounds very weird.
Consider the spelling, consider the theme, and consider the fact that widespread Internet access wasn't really a thing until the mid-2000's.
If you think a bunch of nerds, most of whom didn't speak a Slavic language, would pronounce it any other way, well... Have you met any of us?
This is Battle tech.
Of course most people assume it is pronounced like " Mech".
Very few speak any Russian.
The only Russian I ever learned, long forgotten, was " I am an American fighter pilot. I surrender."
I've got a somewhat-related story of lost language:
Some of my mom's older relatives spoke Russian, but decades later, the only words she could remember were "Привет" and "something that sounded like garage-key".
Garage-key?? 🤔
That odd mystery word stuck with me as a kid, and I discovered a few years ago that she probably was trying to say "грозный", or possibly just the city of Grozny.
Ah yes, Artillery. The King of the Battlefield
Where aiming is more a suggestion than a requirement
Maybe first time I say this, but I genuinely love how wholesome the BPL is. Thanks Tex.
How often do you shower?
Can you Cook?
If I told you, you may have to work on your own mech, which wrench on your wrench would be the most commonly required?
How do you feel about melee combat and what would you classify your mech fu style?
Often enough, yes, the one that fits, and ma'am, my Catapult doesn't have the punchy bits, but if I fits, I sits.
finally back with BTA, i was so sad when you stopped. Glad its going again.
I pretty much am avoiding this game for some time now for fear of locking myself up in my office and just playing the sh*t out of it. 😂
This is wise
Duct tape for a collapsed lung seems to be periphery lore friendly.
Sadly they use that during the Vietnam war duct tape was common I don't know my neighbor was telling me about it I thought he was making this up you know they they carry the duct tape for bleeding wounds.
@@mikecampos1193 what you actually do is tape the wound over with clear plastic wrap so when you jab them with the valve needle the air in the lung cavity can escape and the lung can reinflate.
There is only one possible answer we can give when faced with clanners… “Go back where you came from! Inner sphere don’t want you!”
Is it just me or would anyone else love to c tex go through mechwarrior 3 at some point
You guys are keeping the community alive! Keep up the content!
Nice, also nice to see the glorious lore of the Free State of Van Zant.
Paradox not wanting another Battletech is such a braindead move. They must hate money.
I guess Paradox is too busy focusing on releasing a billion DLCs for their other games instead.
22:19
That makes no sense. All a mech needs to arrest its fall during an orbital insertion is a single jump jet. And I'm supposed to believe that a mech with 2 jump jets can't make that tiny little hop?
This was thoroughly enjoyable to watch, and a cool preview of the BTA 3062 mod (I’ve been playing the BEX Commander’s Edition mod, myself)
I’m playing through BEX too. I’m only in 3028 right now, but I’m planning to switch over to BTA once I get to 3062.
@@Logan912 Same here
Scrombles did they let you out of the ball pit again
“Macho man was- Hunchback Pilot.. fight me” Love it Tex. :)
I can't imagine how heart wrenching it must be for HBS to lose the BT License.
Especially since MW5 is getting a stand alone Clan Invasion game. Yay...more arcade shooter MW. The gaming industry has become so freaking shallow. Crispy graphics, zero depth.
Give an Assassin an LB-10X with a ton of each ammo type and a pulse laser if you have one. It becomes both a great backstabber and the bane of Locusts the Inner-Sphere over.
Honestly the first question on the Mechwarrior hiring checklist should be asking: Can you read and/or write? Because if no the rest of this aptitude test is pointless.
I LOVE the Hollander. not saying its a good mech, but I just love how goofy the art for it is and the buddy who got me into BT introduced it to me as the Big Iron mech
Also my Favorite mech. It pops heads and then heads home for pop.
It would have been a gamble, considering you only got two guaranteed salvage, but if you had ran away from the swayback once the pilot was bleeding out, he would have fallen over in a few rounds like your pilot and you would have gotten all three parts on the salvage list. It's a cheap way to do it, but I've gotten more than a few mechs by just running around and tanking shots from a dying pilot.
balance doesn't seem to be much of a priority in BTA in general, as compared to say BEX - which is a shame
This is awesome!! As a proficient mech commander I'm yelling at my screen going what are you doing!! And Tex's voice is just the madness I imagine the inner sphere to be. "Sir, I'm bleeding out. Why can't I eject?" "Because it's more cost efficient to hire a new guy than replacing the cockpit." "Sir, our scanners show the Opfor's pilot heat signature is dropping rapidly, their bleeding out Sir." "Keep firing."
Edited comment as i was too early: Carcharodon, that's ME!
I was part of the wiki team briefly during covid lockdown, and as a lil thank you a bunch of us got to add our own likeness and pilot to the random roster.
That's actually a photo of me edited by the BTA art guy, it is BEYOND cool to be a tiny tiny part of such an awesome mod and game. I'm from UK so the brit voice is perfect.
As for Carcharodon's backstory, he's gonna be VERY happy about your plan to travel through Steiner space and start kicking clanners. This is too perfect ^_^
(hope i don't die)
WOO survived the first ep, that was hairy at the beginning.
I do kinda wish Tex would do a run on Battletech Extended, Commander's Edition. That's my preferred mod 😉
Ah yes. Delta. Pride (cough cough) of Van Zandt.
Objective? Boop the snoot!
Jurassic Park?
Oh! You mean McEvedy's Folly, yeah... Pretty sure that was one of the guys they found out there.
Sad stuff that, getting stranded at your own science experiment gone awry...
Don't be afraid of the person who gave themselves a scary callsign, be afraid of the person who gave themselves a silly callsign. Dont be afraid of the person given a silly callsign by the opposition, BE VERY AFRAID of the person given a scary callsign by the opposition.
I have a pilot who's callsign is Akuma. He did not give this title to himself. He earned it when his merc squad of 4 mechs went up against a squad of 4 Draconis mechs. It turned into 3 Draconis mechs, 2 assualt 1 med vs his lone Catapult and he was out of ammo. That was the halfway point. He DFA killed the med, dfa and immobilized and knocked down one assault, dfa and killed the second assualt and ONLY THEN fell down and couldnt get back up. The Combine's recovery team only found a headless Awesome with the one legged and one armed (lrm tubed?) skeleton of the Catapult planted squarly on top. All of its armor having been slagged off, revealing nothing but mech's skeletal internal structure behind. The pilot nowhere to be seen in the half melted cockpit. The Draconis pilot still inside his own mech's cockpit, when they cracked it open he was as white as a ghost and could only say "Akuma" over and over
That catapult pilot now rides a charger and that Draconis pilot quit and retired to a farm.
Go go, Urbie Rangers!
P. S. Imagine if 4 Urbies can combine in one assault or superheavy megazord Urbie...
In fairness to the Assassin, if you load it with TAG, maybe some ECM and a Beagle, and squint really hard, it's almost a slightly heavier and shittier stand-in for a Raven, for the 'mech commander on a budget. The fact that you'd get the same effect from a platoon of guys on dirtbikes with man-portable TAG and satchel charges for a significantly lower C-bill investment is neither here nor there...
As soon as I saw Urbie Derby as an option I knew how this run would go, and it is gonna be fun.
Also Timbukto Flea the followup to the Solaris Piranha movie?
The Hunchback is as speedy as a 64 year old overweight Floridian with a pint of Guinness in him and he needs to pee. Faster and with more momentum than ever expected
I can't believe Paradox wouldn't green light BT2. Their aversion to making money must be why they are about to go under I guess.
Mark my words here and now, 10 years from now Battletech will have an HBO show.
And will suck because they don't know or care about the lore.
Thank you to everyone who made this series possible, that made me laugh after a shift of work.
Of course Tex takes the Urbie Derby. I'm gonna die laughing here.
Dude, the Jenner should be kicking them down. In that mod kicking gets rid of the evasion points on the enemy and then fires your weapons at very high accuracy.
Tex: Thanks for the message to HBS. It is certainly sad news. Thank goodness for the great modding community. I have months sunk into this game and don't regret any of it.
We are here for you and to support the legion. We like listening to your voice bassing out our headphones and your cool stories.
Wouldn't the collective noun for an UrbanMech be an Amble. As in an amble of UrbanMechs.
>were you terrorized by a flea
I think properly stealth armored, you could do some absolutely terrifying things with a little shit like that.
I wish HBS could just get the rights to Battletech at least for turn based. I'd like to see Battltech ported to console like they did for the Shadowrun trilogy.
It's crazy that they said no to HBS. I know it didn't sell in the millions, but surely no one expected it to.
I'm a simple man. I see tex and battletech i hit like and watch. And watch and watch and watch.
Unless you refuse the loot crate, you get the Heavy Metal crate after the first day
It might have a more palatable mech than your initial lineup ... But Urby Derby is the destination for this run
Working as intended 😆
I had a Slapdash with that character icon, too. She died, but she was in a Wraith at the time. AC20 to the cockpit. RIP.
i will fight you tex. are you gonna look us all in the eye and tell us that machoman randy savage wasn't a charger pilot?
My brother was playing this and was doing the Bounty Hunter/Natasha Kerinskie throw down and in the first few turns the one of the Clan lance came into view. "Ah, what the hell." Takes a shot and misses. Cockpit destroyed. Pilot killed. The shot had missed the initial target and killed a blood named Clanner in the fog of war. That is a story not going into the Remembrance.
Slapdash is part of a story mission later on, to upgrade the Argo. That she dies .. is the not good
'already a wounded pilot'
this is the reason i rip off jump jets, to slap on more armor
Wish my computer could load into a mission on this mod without turning into a smoke emitter
I got to say your comment on call signs really hits home. And I got to say that’s usually true. You can always tell who gave themselves a callsign versus who earned enough respect or did something memorable enough to get a callsign.
Old Man, reporting.
Talking to combat pilots has shown me that all their calls callsigns are inside jokes pointed at embarrassing moments in training. Lite-brite would be a pilot who killed their battery in their car by leaving the lights on. None of them sound particularly embarrassing, but are never a cool as Maverick or Ice Man. Unless Maverick drives a rusted P.O.S. Ford Maverick and Ice Man flew into a mountain top all by himself in the sim.
I've said before, I'll say it again. If I was actually *IN* the Battletech Universe running a Merc group, we would be all Urbies. Why? Because they're cheap and versatile, and if you can field enough of them then the enemy will either run out of ammo or overheat, or the sun will go out before your costs match theirs.
Plus, can you fucking imagine being the defending mechs in an area, a dropship leaves a Lance of Urbies on your doorstep. You blow them up, the dropship comes back, drops a Lance of Urbies on your doorstep. You blow them up, the dropship comes back and drops a Lance of heavily specialised Urbies that proceed to kick the shit out of you after you revealed your defences to the shitty Urbies first. The fuck are you going to do now?
"Oh, it was hard fought and our enemy outnumbered us."
"Yeah, and they were wrapped in tissue paper and dreams. You got your ass beat by a bunch of dudes who went off their meds two days ago that were thrown at your actually expensive shit."
You can't recover from that level of reputation damage. Just Urbies going out to Curbstomp fuckers. We'll be the Curbies, and all our Urbies will be bright fucking pink just to really confuse the fuck out of people.
Our callsigns will require completing three engagements to earn, because I'm not learning your name if you won't be here next week. They're going to be stuff like "Pumpkin" for the guy who is constantly trying to quit smoking so is always slapping on a nicotine patch before drop. "Sunny" for the guy who is constantly depressed, "Humble" for the guy who won't shut up about pulling off a lucky shot and downing a Hunchback, and so on. The only thing we hate more than each other is not getting paid.
Rock on mr tex with the early chrimbmass present wow
Luv to see it
HBS should have a kickstarter going for a second Battletech game. Knowing the BT community and how starved we are for good games we're gonna make it happen. Hell, have them go the BG3 route, give us a good alpha with a multi-year early access and we'll make it possible.
Owned by Paradox. It won't happen unless Paradox gives the OK unfortunately. I knew this shit would happen.
14:46 there’s a battle armor start, so the Urbies definitely aren’t the hardest start out there
Wow advanced is running pretty smooth, did they somehow fix the memory leak issue or is tex's computer actually good?
They did a lot to fix the memory leaks.
Yeah I think I played BTA about 9 months ago and it was pretty rough as far as load times and memory leaks go. Especially had problems with the long times between turns. Maybe it's time to go back to it.
And then the Hunchback got out his pimpcane.
your callsign-theory reminds me of that snl scetch with the fighterpilots
I now kind of hope that there is a Battletech version of the Glamour Shots franchise.
Loving the new stream of uploads Tex.
Always a treat.
Watching the Jenner and the three Urbies looked like a nanny taking three cute toddlers for a walk.
Whelp with the med kit joke, Piffany the Cleric now lives in the Deep Periphery
"Delta Squad reporting!"
IMO comstar probably wouldn't care much about the argo assuming it didn't have the data cache from the campaign, like they'd unperson you if you found a WarShip, but the argo is just a fancy dropship and it's primary purpose is planetary survey. There are plenty of much larger in production dropships even in 3025 so it's not a game changer, and it's not anything anyone would care to replicate, hell it has to use leopards to actually deploy mechs. It's basically a luxury dropship with sub par deployment capabilities and no useful tech to salvage, the houses could replicate the thing easily if anyone cared to it's just that no one considers it worth the effort to make something like it anymore.
What are the chances that any of the Houses are producing this version of the Argo.
You're forgetting the mechbay facilities. It has fully automated repair and refit systems that can straight up fabricate mech components on demand if supplied raw materials. Its as close to a mobile mech factory as you could get, especially in the 3025 era the campaign is in
HBS BATTLETECH: my favorite game. Over 800 hours with only the vanilla. There's all the mods to play with yet! XD
Thanks Tex, now I'm binging Randy Savage interviews and I am not disappointed!
Van Zandt standard medical kit : A roll of duct tape, a hacksaw and a bottle of rye ...
You're right about HBS. They deserve so much more.
Hong Kong was fantastic, and my personal favourite instalment to the shadowrun series
"Macho man was a Hunchback pilot, fight me."
OK! WRONG!
The Macho Man Randy Savage was not a Hunchback pilot-
He was a CHARGER PILOT!
I love BTA but it's just mentally exhausting so I end up playing MW5 with YAML and all that stuff more often than not
And yeah urbies are not the hardest start by far, since they have actual good armaments
you could be actually screwed, like having a bunch of hornets
"I knew a guy that liked the Hollander. He doesn't like it anymore. He blew up." ~ Professor Tex
"The Lyrans said you're a war criminal. After saying that out loud, I just realized how ridiculous that sounds."
Amazing. Shouldn't the collective noun of Urbanmechs be a "grumble". It's a grumble of pugs, and pugs are the Urbies of dogs.
