2009 chevy cobalt. Worked great!!! If you can prove ownership of the car (registration in your name, government ID) you can get a key made at the dealer (if your locks haven't been changed from the factory). My dealer told me I had to bring the car in and get the key programmed. Had to use jumper cables to my truck so the battery wouldn't die. After I followed the video the key did successfully program to the car.
Thank you so much for doing this video. We were about to spend at the least $200-$300 to get a key made. Our only key was lost. I went to the dealershipand was told that they could sell me the key for $50 but then I would have to have the car towed in and paper shop time to get the key to work with the car. I decided just to do a little research and found you thank goodness. We went and had the key cut paid our $50 then followed your instructions. Thank you thank you thank you!
For everyone wondering, this works! I have a 2009 Chevy cobalt ss built in the US and after following the procedure I saved $200. Just a tip, your alarm may go off but only for about 20-30 seconds. Just wait it out in the car and you should be good to go!
I did this on a 2008 Cobalt, bought a $10 key off Amazon. Key was cut at my local Ace for $2.14. Saved so much money. If this isn’t working for y’all make sure you’re using the appropriate key, the key should have a + for it to be used in the ignition.
Hey thanks Mr random internet guy!! This worked EXACTLY as described in video. Spent $50 on a key, but this vid saves me $149 for dealer to program plus the cost of a 40 mile tow!! thanks again

2006 cobalt coupe, needs a new starter, the girl that I'm buying it from said I will have to get a starter that comes wth a key and I'll have to reprogram that key to the new starter? Is that right?
I’ve got a 2010 Chevy cobalt that the security light just randomly has come on with the key. It’s a made key never had the original key. But sometimes it flashes the security light. Either way it won’t crank. Eventually it will be takes a bit to get it to read the key. How do i reprogram the key? Because I don’t have $200-300 to spend to have it done at dealership right now.
Let me ask this question I have my chevrolet cobalt I just bought it so when I put the key on position I heard a clip clip sounds anybody have an idea what could happen. The sound is under the dash
Trying to do that, but the security light keeps flickering on and off seemingly forever during the first step. Any ideas why and how to fix that? Chevrolet Cobalt 2010
bought a reprogrammer for my 2009 Chevy cobalt LT and after I programmed a fob to it, my engine light came on. I ran the code reader and got a p0700 code and u0073 code. This makes no sense why it came on right after I did this but it’s been fine. I only have 89k miles. Any help/ideas why please?
What does it mean to have the blade cut? I have a 2010 cobalt lt and I lost the keys, I don't want to have to wait until Thursday to get the car so if this works I could go get a key cut right and do it right now
The blade of the key is what needs to be cut. If you have lost all of the keys and do not have one to duplicate it from you will need to get it cut by a Dealership or Automotive Locksmith
NOT all models that seem indicated here can use this process. On their website you can find a complete list of the models that do not use this and MUST be taken to a lock smith or dealer. The '09 cobalt indicated above is one such model. @Programyourremote.com We appreciate your info, but please make an effort to have it be accurate. EDIT: They say there is no list, as I mistakenly stated above, however the 09 cobalt key is noted as not onboard programmable.
I'm not sure where you are getting that information from but it is incorrect. The Cobalts use the the same key and key programming procedure from 2006 on, until they stopped making them in 2010. The years are correct as listed in the video title.
sounds like your battery may be getting weak - it may need to be replaced soon. Turning off the radio and A/C or heat will help draw less power while doing this proceudre
Try locking the drivers door from the outside of the vehicle and then Unlock the door twice ( unlock 2 times without locking ) After you do that, then try to do the programming procedure
If your hearing a small cranking sound when the lights flash then your batteries are not at optimal levels. I jumped my vehicle for the 30 minutes duration. This could be an indication that the alternator is not charging the batteries which is why the car locked you out. The ecm was not getting power.
Does this work with a key FOB? I lost my keys and it had a Key FOB attached to it. I don't want to have to shell out a few hundred dollars for a replacement 😞 2008 chevy cobalt LT btw
For my situation my car will not crank the car and lock symbol pops up on the dashboard but it didn’t flash it just stays there the whole time what does that mean?
How can you guys say this procedure works if you don’t have your original factory key... GM Will tell you themselves if you don’t have your original factory key you cannot program the new cut key and you have to take it to a GM dealership to get it done! Trust me that’s exactly what I had to do. Unless this only works on US cars or non-supercharged cobalts it doesn’t work!
Sorry but as far as this video goes it’s completely BS. Maybe this works on the American cobalts? That lil lock light just keeps blinking and the car will not start after doing the 10 minutes on then off then 10 minutes on three times...

Worked perfect. Awesome.
Nice!
My 2010 cobalt was manufactured in the States but I'm in Canada should that make a difference getting the key in Canada?
There should be no difference as long as the vehicle was built in the U.S.

Where did you get the key, is it OEM? You may want to try a different one
@@PYR-Auto I got it from the Chevy dealership it says GM on the key
Although it's possible, it's pretty rare for a OEM key to be bad. Not sure what the issue s
That's a damn huge Cobalt in that video. GMC must make them bigger than Chevy does. SMH
yeah Its a sierra in the video - this same exact procedure works on may different GM models

Hi I am programmer some but my the security light is flashing so what's can I do
Will this work on 2010 chevy colbolt car also
yes this is for the 2006 - 2010 cobalt
How are you supposed to know what pattern to have your key cut if you have lost all keys?
Dealers and some automotive locksmiths can cut the key by code that they can look up.
Trying to do that, but the security light keeps flickering on and off seemingly forever during the first step. Any ideas why and how to fix that? Chevrolet Cobalt 2010
I would recommend just going off of the time rather than the light

Sorry. After your reply I reread and understand what was said.
Doesn’t work for my 2008 chevy cobalt lt tho
Thanks
You're Welcome!
did it start?
yes
I went through all the steps. Anti theft light is off but still won't turn over
Two GM dealers told me The only way to program the new key is you have to use your old factory key or you have to take it into the dealership....
On some vehicles that is true but not on a 2006 - 2010 Cobalt
I guess my question is do you have to get a new key if you replace the starter? And do we have to reprogram the key?
No - a new starter does not require a new ignition key
I've never seen a Cobalt that used a laser cut key.
It's a GMC in the Video - this same procedure works on may different GM models
But it actually worked
DOESNT THIS DRAIN THE BATTERY?????
Does this work for 2005 to
A 2005 Cobalt doesn’t use a transponder key system, so there is no programming needed
Tried this any my car died 😂😂

You didn’t actually start the car so how do we know if that worked
I'm at the first step and I've noticed the light is flashing the whole time
Did you continue with the procedure?
Same, starts flashing the second I turn the key to on and doesn't stop flashing after the 10 mins
Does this work with a key FOB? I lost my keys and it had a Key FOB attached to it. I don't want to have to shell out a few hundred dollars for a replacement 😞

This will only program the key, not the fob. Unfortunately there is no manual way to program the fob for a 2008 Cobalt.
For my situation my car will not crank the car and lock symbol pops up on the dashboard but it didn’t flash it just stays there the whole time what does that mean?
Its possible there could be an issue with key you are using
