Rory Gallagher. The best. Period. Any place. Any time. Any competition. Rory owns that '61 Strat neck like no other musician. Gerry McAvoy blasting bass. There is no better guitarist out there. Rory's closest competition.....Jimi, SRV and Jeff Healey. I would still rather hear Rory. Total control, passion and the best live performance. RIP Rory Gallagher We all miss you.

Guys, I'm just back online after a few traumatic days to say the least! On Friday night, 26 Nov we had the most horrendous storm in the UK (Storm Arwen) which resulted in the power here being cut off about 6.30 that night and it was just restored today (1 December). There were thousands of power cuts all across the country and it's a massive task getting everyone reconnected. I've left a few messages for you on Patreon. Okay re reaction! I love this super energy, exhilarating performance of Shin Kicker, Live at Montreux in 1979 and have watched it many times on RUclips. And yes, apparently this was the first song he did so pretty good! Rory Gallagher was an amazing guitarist, he lived to play the guitar. It's so good to see how much he is enjoying himself and the bass and drums are fab too. Rory sadly died in June 1995 but he left a fantastic legacy of music. Lots of videos on RUclips (live ones are best), such as Shadow Play, Nadine, Bad Penny and Tattooed Lady. And yes, Patrick, this would definitely wake you up, it's just super-charged! This was a great birthday present, guys, I'm sorry I wasn't able to see it 'on the day' but you really cheered me up after a bit of a stressful time as I said. Thanks so much for the 'shout out', and thanks also for a fab reaction. I'm so glad you like Rory's music as much as I do! Also, I'm so glad my pressie arrived - hope you like the pictures in the calendar and also the Christmas card!

The Hendrix comment was made about Alvin Lee, not Rory Gallagher in an interview done with Cream Magazine about a month after Woodstock 69'. The interview was published in January, 1970. I have that exact issue of Cream with the interview. About midway through the interview, Hendrix was ask that same question and responded "I don't know, ask Alvin Lee." Asked to expand a bit on his answer Hendrix said he thought he played a good set at Woodstock and he thought Carlos Santana & Johnny Winter both played strong sets too. But in the words of Hendrix, and I quote, "of the 3+ days of music that was played there, nobody outplayed Alvin Lee, and I mean nobody." That being said, I think Rory Gallagher & Gary Moore were both incredible guitarist that left us way too soon. I saw Rory once as the opening act for Rush back in 1981.

@@GBeret83 I think Jimi said it about many guitarists in interviews in was his way of deflecting the question as he was genuinely humble and never really thought of himself as the GOAT, he felt there were several great guitarists around at that time such as Alvin Lee, Peter Green, Clapton, Rory Gallagher, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Duane Allman, Gary Rossington, Allen Collins and many more, we really were blessed with talent back then

Greetings from Ireland Rory and the band were a powerhouse. Rory never needed a rhythm player as he had Gerry McAvoy on bass and Ted McKenna on drums. I can still remember the energy when he played the Ulster Hall in Belfast. He really was a humble man you could meet him on the street, before the show, and he had the time of day for you. Check out a film called Irish Tour 1974 when Lou Martin is on the keyboards and rod De'Ath is drumming in an early lineup of the band

The energy was matched by his outstanding mastery of the guitar. Easily in the top ten (so to speak) of guitar players. I don’t think anyone had the extensive range of blue & rock mastery and he spent his life living and playing music for years to countless thousands. For blues for Slide guitar I like on RUclips ‘all around man’ at the BBC Old Grey Whistle Test special for Rory and for hard rock ‘Do you read me’ recorded live in Belfast- Des

There was a time in the middle of 1970-s when Rory Gallagher was considered to be the best of the best. That kind of ratings are always a matter of taste of course but Jimi was dead and Rory was alive giving all these fantastic performances. Often good guitarists got a mediocre voice, but Rory had a strong blues/rock voice. So I consider him to be one of the influencers of the 1970-ies.

I’d never heard of this song or (cringe) guy?? before- I’m not SURE about Rory and HATE TO admit if I hadn’t!!😬) But, when I first saw this title- I thought it was a play on words of the American expression, calling someone a “Shit Kicker” lol… but apparently “not” since it’s Irish. 😂😂

Rory was an incredible musician who lived to play and shunned the usual trappings of the music industry. He would not release any singles, not wanting to get trapped on that merry-go-round. He also was spectacular on acoustic-check out the Live and Unplugged videos).

@@dawnmoore4329 His name sounds SO familiar to me but, I just cannot place for sure IF or WHAT I did hear him play back when I was growing up-which most likely would have been in the 80’s , but I don’t know if he was still around then or what. I’ll have to check things out a little more deeper.

Pretty sure it's a reference to kickstarting a motorbike.
