We love this fabulous guitarist who was also a humble sweetheart. Rory! 🇨🇮🇺🇸❤️
Rory is amazing fantastic his music lives on ❤❤
I think I got my money's worth...
My first rock concert
May 19, 1973 (Dusty Hill's 24th birthday, I've come to find out)
East Tennessee State University
Rory Gallagher
ZZ Top
$4
It was about six months before Tres Hombres came out. Rory was pure fire right out of the gate, and I think he had as much fun as anyone. Then, BG and the boys came out. Back when they were the most badass blues rock band that ever was. Straw hats, jeans, no beards(but Frank. lol), and BG in a white tshirt w/ pack of Marlboros rolled up in the sleeve(lol). Needless to say, Rory and BG made a big impression on a 16 yr old. Blues rock, slide guitar nut ever since.
RIP Dusty, Rory, Lou, Rod. Thank You!
Check out Rory Playing Bullfrog Blues Live on the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1976.Epic.
I saw the great man over 20 times. Every gig was an absolute storm of high energy rock and blues. He tore the place apart wherever he played. Brilliant performer and exhilarating fluid guitarist, he was an absolute joy to behold.
Hr could play a range of styles, jazz, folk and country and on his albums he would mix it up and there was a track for everyone.
Amazing versatility and genuine love for his craft.
The G Man! The man,the myth, the legend! It doesn't get any better!!!!
Rory was ahead of his time and can never be topped - good post.
Oh Rory you were wonderful, can't watch him without smiling
There isn't a greatest guitarist.
So many of them.
Rory is right up there at the top.
Isn't Rory just a fantastic force of nature? I still remember hearing this for the first time in the late 70's - absolutely blown away. His energy and enthusiasm is both relentless and infectious.
Love the man. One of the great live acts from my era.
Song from 1971 called I Fall Apart might be the most beautiful solo he ever played. Then in 1974 he toured Ireland when bombs were exploding and everyone played only to the audiences of one side or the other ~ except Rory & his band. They played everywhere ~ Million Miles Away, Walk on Thin Ice, Cradle Rock, and a solo acoustic As the Crow Flies
All fire.
When hendrix was asked what it was like to the best guitarist in the world, he replied, you'd better ask Rory Gallagher that. The stones wanted him, enough said.
Best guitarist ever
I grew up a teen in the 70s,saw Rory a lot,I still wear checked shirts, levis n sneakers, play a Strat relicked by me,very close to Rory's, hes greatly missed, judging by your reaction,I wish you could have gone to see Rory with me all those years ago,you would have loved it, Messin with the kid, is one of my favourites, thanks for the vid,and reaction. Kenny.
Rory Gallagher - Off the Handle (Montreux 1979).
Rory hit the audience with rock and roll like a hammer blow.
One of my favorite guitar performances of all time.
Thanx for doing Rory! Another unsung master you might like: Frank Marino!!!!!
Rory didn’t just have it. He had ALL of it ! Saw him 6 times. on fire
That man dida lot of livin' in 48 years.
Great Video.. Oh I got to meet Rory when I lived in Cleveland Ohio... he played The Agora. I had no clue who he was that first time...I went there with a friend. I was hard to miss. I was up front, the one with the brown face and I was with a white friend...I couldn't take my eyes off him..One of the guys working there was watching me...five minutes before the show ended.. he asked one question "How would you like to meet Rory Gallagher?" the rest was history.. I went back the next day to see him again.. I had no problem getting back stage.
My absolute Favorite!!
Rory Gallagher wa a lovely, soft-spoken person who was a friendly guy and always made you feel welcome. I met him for the first time as a fifteen-year old kid when sheltering for a ferocious down-poor at the 1976 Jazz Bilzen in Belgium. We had a small conversation about the diversity and taste of several Belgian local beers, while sampling them on the spot. I met him again backstage at the 1980 Reading Rock festival in England and he bloody-well remembered me. We more or less continued our conversation from four years prior and I promised him I'd send him some of our more exotic beers (mostly beers brewed by priors on a low level, like, two crates per year, maximum). There's a pub downtown Antwerp, called "The Kulminator" that has more than nine-hundred beers in stock, ninety-five per-cent of them from Belgium. I often went there to taste some of them, depending on how much money I had because some of the more rare beers are pricy. But I got some for Rory and I met-up with him again at the same Reading festival in 1981 or 1982 and he was so friendly and thankful. Quite the remarkable guy, really. When he knew you, he treated you like family. I got an invitation a few years later through Belgian blues artist Roland Van Campenhout, who was a really good friend of Gallagher, but for reasons I can't remember I passed on it and never met Rory again. I regret that now. But hey, that's life.
Happy St. Patrick's Day. RIP Rory.
Rory was & still is the greatest performer in musical history, he gave me the encouragement to pick up a guitar at 10 years of age. Thanks a million Rory for the music and my musical journey in life.
I second that.
Such an incredible guitarist from Ireland, R.I.P. So hard to say who was #1; I have a list of about 20 favorite guitarists and Rory is on it.
rory ♥♥♥♥♥
He was a guitarist's guitarist. I only heard about him from other guitarists. Thanks for dusting him off. He never got the recognition he deserved.
I was fortunate enough to see Rory Gallagher live at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles around 1975.. I was a big fan of his Irish Tour Live album and that's pretty much the show I saw that night in Los Angeles.. it was incredibly cool..
Great reaction. Rory was all about the music, he wasn't interested in the celebrity showbiz lifestyle. He never compromised his music for the sake of commercial success, refused to release singles which meant he didn't get much radio play, but as he said "Everywhere we play a crowd shows up, and they seem to know all the songs." Onstage he was a human hurricane, offstage people were often surprised to find he was a softly spoken, modest, polite, intelligent , down-to-earth gentleman. He was a one-off. You should listen to some of his interviews sometime.
As for what to react to next, when Rory rocked he rocked hard, but that was only one aspect of his repertoire, he was an accomplished acoustic player and a respected bluesman too.
I'll suggest 'A Million Miles Away' and 'As The Crow Flies', both from Irish Tour 74.
❤️ million miles away ✌️🚬🔥💩
He was the real deal. That's why we loved him and still do! 😎👍
Rory was the best, hands down.
Jimi Hendrix was once asked whether he was the best guitarist ever. His answer....."you'll have to ask Rory Gallagher"
Rock Goes to College 1979, Moonchild 1985 Montreux, Million Miles Away, Bad Penny, What in the World, etc. Live is always best with Rory!
Virtually all of the biggest rock acts to a certain degree (some more than others) had some type of gimmick whether it was related to their image, clothes, act or whatever. With Rory it's just a guy in plain dress wearing denim, playing a battered old Stratocaster. It's so honest and rock in it's purest form.
Yes, Rory is up there as one of the guitar greats, definitely in the top 10 of all time and his band IMO is the most under-rated Power Trio as this track shows they are absolutely on fire, an unstoppable force.
Totally agree, I've seen him many times, still blows me away .
I used to play in a band (I was a rubbish drummer!) but our guitarist , quite a shy guy, was very good and really rated Rory , so much so , that we incorporated Shadowplay into our set.. He(the guitarist) managed to get tickets to see Rory at the Marquee Club's 25th Anniversary shows (tiny club)..I was blown away by Rory , lost my friend for a bit, only to see this shy retiring guy going mental at the front, headbanging like his life depended on it..Rory was fantastic..Happy memories...thx for this one man, great stuff!
One of the greats from my youth.
Have a go at 'Do You Read Me' live. It will knock your socks off.
Thanks for reviewing the song... that was some show there.....AMAZING.....
Bad Penny and A Million Miles Away are two of my favorites of Rory's. But most every time I hear something new of his it becomes a favorite, too.
Philby
Fuel to the fire. Mississippi shieks.. If your yet to hear them.
I was lucky enough to see Rory live in London a fair few times in the 70's. Live in Europe was the first live album I ever bought after seeing him on The Old Grey Whistle Test on TV. I never saw a band that worked harder live. Such a talent and forever humble. One of the greatest, that's for sure!
Thank you for another Rory reaction! I love seeing young folks discover his amazing talent. I've been a fan since 1980, when I first discovered him.. For more Rory, try Do You Read Me (Rock Goes to College) for more amazing rock guitar work or my personal favorite Sinner Boy with his band Taste at the Isle of Wight for some slide guitar. Rory was only 22 at the time and blew everyone away. Rory was also a fabulous acoustic player. Check out any of the performances on the RTE Studios 1977 special such as Pistol Slapper Blues. He was a great blues player. Also, any of the Old Grey Whistle Test videos are pretty darned good too. Please have fun exploring Rory's catalog. The man was extraordinary.
Dawn Moore - very well put. Sadly I never saw Rory perform live but Live at the Isle of Wight is one of the most electrifying performances of all time. Young Rory - looking gorgeous - Taste his best rhythm section ever. I just bought Live in Cork which is incredible in part due to the advanced filming technology. You feel like you are on the stage with him. No one will ever replace Rory.
@@MoroccanMelody , watch his performances on Rock Goes to College or Montreux 1977 or 1979. Electrifying! I've watched them countless times and I'm always amazed at his talent and energy.
This was how Rory opened this show - and shows why his performances are legendary. What separates Rory from the rest is that he could really do it all - his acoustic stuff is as outstanding as his electric, he could pick, he could slide. When he played the blues you felt the blues, when he rocked you rolled. He was a self-taught multi-instrumentalist who played guitar, mandolin, electric sitar, harmonica, alto sax... His songwriting was brilliant and his voice was wonderfully unique. For a totally different vibe, I suggest you check out his "All Around Man" performance from the BBC show Old Grey Whistle Test. Also his Beat Club performances are sublime - among those: "Used to Be" and "In Your Town", or any of them, are worth seeing. There's also Rory with his band Taste - amazing stuff. So much more to explore, too many to mention, but experiencing Rory is a musical journey. Anyway, thanks for another great Rory reaction and keep on...
Beautifully put!
@@SlumminAngel Thanks. Never enough Rory!
Spot on as usual Nora.
@@thomasmccafferty8516 Sometimes even I can get things right. 😉
Most of the time Nora. You havent checked out the hotpress rory gallagher the lp revisited . Young Irish bands playing each track on the debut album.
''Shadow Play 1994'' just amazing and hearthbreaking at the same time.
Probably the most underrated guitarist ever
Few players can rival Rory for his traditional blues playing or for his slide work.
Best thing about your reactions is that you sit back and chill and take it all in before you comment.. subbed .
But, he was better and more exciting player than all of them, gooo oonn rooorrryyyy🎸😁
#1,and a real gentleman 🙏
Best guitarist Ireland ever produced
Rory was also a brilliant lyricist please listers I fall apart and can't believe it's TRUE ok his album called rory Gallagher
Rory G for me was the greatest. Of course there are many other greats out there, Gary Moore, Stevie Ray, Jimi H but for his versatility and range of styles Rory stands out as the greatest. Thanks for playing Rory, have a listen to Bad Penny, Moonchild, Brute Force and Ignorance or just select any of his tracks and you won’t be disappointed.
I'm 64 now, got into him aged 17. I really liked his Ziderco phase he was into towards the end.
@@cunobelinusX31 Ziderco????
I'm 70 I still play his cds saw him in Dublin a few times for me the greatest guitarist ever
Fantastic! So much energy in this performance. Audience is feeding off it. Exceptional guitar work. Think maybe Chuck B. was one of his idols?
Rory Gallagher lived his life as did his musical inspirations: African-American blues players.
Rory was so dang great! Blows my mind that I got to see Rory open for RUSH in December 1982 at Madison Square Garden. That was such a special night! Pope, love your thoughtful and appreciative reactions. Thanks!
In Germany in the 70, they created a TVshow called Rockpalast that came up from time to time with a lot of great international stars but also some unknown acts. Rory was one of the most invited. Then, in 1977, they decided to install 2 big shows per year with various big acts and for some years there were the famous Rockpalast Nights in March and October that were broadcasted all over Europe ( and there were hundreds of thousands of Rockpalast parties during that nights). Rory had the honor to open the first one of them. I cannot say which performance is my favorite of his because there are too many great ones. But one of them is "Moonchild" on the Loreley in 1982. Awesome to see how he mistreated the strings of his poor strat while soloing. ruclips.net/video/-qraZF0TW2I/видео.html
In the above video you can see him use a Fender amp, on the Loreley it was a VOX AC 30 amp and in other vids you can see that he used different amps by other brands. But he always sounded like "Rory" and was immendiately recognizable. Maybe I am wrong but I think he was the one with the most unique sound among all the guitar giants. Listening to his studio work is fun but watching him life is the cherry on the cream.
If I remember it correctly it was the guitarist of Pearl Jam who was inspired to learn guitar after hearing the acoustic "I'm Not Awake Yet" from the album "Deuce" because he wanted to play that, too. Perhaps my memory is wrong and it was another musician who became someone.
Jimi Hendrix asked in an interview, what's it like being the greatest guitarist in the world like? He laughed and smiled! I dunno man, ask Rory Gallagher?
At one point he was approached to join the Rolling Stones.
Do “Coulda Had Religion”. Different pace and shows his delta blues chops.
It doesn't matter *how* you discover Rory. He was breathtakingly good. His studio albums are interesting, but live is where the fire is. It is rumoured that even Steven Hawking jigged about to Rory ( not really... ) he was that infectious.
There is no 'best' in music. There are those who are/were above, those whose star shone a little more brightly. Rory was one who dazzled. He connected with music and he connected with people. Once you discover Rory, and spend some time listening and watching, you can't help but fall under his spell.
Another awesome reaction video, my personal opinion is Rory Gallagher is the greatest guitarist
Please check out one of Rory’s astounding live versions of
“Bullfrog Blues” or “Souped up Ford”.
Great reaction as usual mate,I have posted comments about Rory Gallagher before but can never get enough of him,had the great pleasure of seeing him 3 times in the 70s /80a in Bristol always very small venues, probably not more than a couple of 100 people,I've seen Jimmy Page,Clapton,Brian May,Gillmor,Peter Green,Blackmor,The late great Alvin Lee,Gary Moore, the list goes on and on,but in my humble opinion Rory is up there with all of them if not better, you have probably heard the story about when asked what's it like to be the greatest guitarist of all time,Hendrix replied "I don't know ask Rory Gallagher" ,nead I say more, take care mate, keep up great work, all the best UK Billy
Someone asked Hendrix who the greatest guitar player was and he said....go ask Rory Gallagher!
"Rory Gallagher at "The Marquee Club" the song "I Could of Had Religion"
It is a performances like nothing you have ever, ever seen.
The video naturally has this nice gritty quality about it, you'll see what I mean.....
Make sure "The Marquee Performance"...
Hope you enjoy the experience of that !
Rory was a great guitar player to say the least, but it is hard to say "The Best"
Rory and Mr.James Marshall Hendrix are my favorites ,personally.{The Best}
He was a humble man, but on stage he was transformed.
Rory had a lot of great influences he often cited.
He really played with virtually no pedals, had a Hawke amp booster for most of his entire career.
Fantastic, you are giving Reactions to his videos
Rory Gallagher has a real loyal fan base ...
These Reaction videos have been showing up more on his fan club pages more recently, love it!
RORY ON! :)
'
Fave rock guitarist is Hendrix, without a doubt. I really like Gary Moore, David Gilmour, SRV. I'm always searching for guitarists who push their art to another level. Innovayion is fun to experience. What people don't talk about Hendix is his voice, stage presence, song writing ability, his Experience bandmates, and how well his albums were recorded and produced. That entire package made Hendrix exceptional. He wasn't just a guitarist, he was a poet.
Rory is number one
Rory Gallagher was the bestest interpreter of North American Blues n Folk that got born bred n buttered in Europe... His devotion to the wonderful world of Leadbelly alone tells its own story....
Check out ‘on the western plain’ Ruari (Rory) was the greatest - simple lovely guy who just loved the blues from Ireland
I saw Rory live open for Rush (my favorite band). Rory was awesome live, so much fun. Thank you POPE for exploring older and other genres than what a young man like you likely grew up with. I enjoyed this reaction of yours. Keep it up brother!
I saw him in '73. Same hard working attitude, same bassist. The band took a break, Rory stayed and played some acoustic blues, just didn't want to leave the stage. He played in troubled areas of Ireland when others didn't back in the day. Highest respect.
Nothing fancy to straighten your face freaking rock and roll man that's what it's about rock and roll LOL music too but rock and roll can't beat it 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I saw Rory many times - always a sell out everyone to see him. Not ideal for here- but loved his studio albums- so much great music. particularly the later albums I think, Top Priority, Defender, and Fresh Evidence.
Love it sir, great reaction!
Love Rory He was Very Very Good but Best Ever no There is always someone else
And that guitarist hasn't been born.
Back in 1978 when I was 15, I discovered the albums Robin Trower live, Frank Marino live, Roy Buchanon live, and Rory Gallagher live. AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN THE SAME.
Bass guitar player is a master also !
Hard to beat Rory !!!
He is for me a top 10 all time guitarist..Hendrix will always be #1
Jimi Hendrix was asked who he considered to be the best guitarist.. He said Rory Gallagher.
Rory was at his peak in the 70's. 11 Studio albums and 2 live albums. Him and The Edge are Ireland's two guitar gods. Unfortunately, Rory had an illness in the early-80's and the medication prescribed essentially took him out. I think his last hit-song Loanshark Blues showed he had so much left in the tank. You should check it out....has a great groove and wicked slide-guitar.
Edge ain't no Rory. Rory Gallagher is one of the top guitarists recorded music history while Edge is an amateur in comparison.
@@larryoconnor7094 I never said who is better Edge or Rory, dummy. I said they were Ireland's 2 guitar gods....Fact. If I'm leaving someone out then correct me. Fine. Otherwise behave yourself. Peace. Out.
@@jakeenan noboddy into guitars considers the Edge a god. He is a figure of ridicule
@@circlemagazine What are we....in 6th grade here? Hilarious.

Edge a "guitar god"? You're need your head examined, mate. On her bike.
professors! Hendrix was once asked how it felt be the greatest guitarist alive and he answered I don't know, you'll have to ask Rory Gallagher!
I saw him in 1982 in Quimper (Brittany). A cool guy and honest rocker (a giant on stage, but dressed like you are, giving that feeling you could go drink a beer easily with him after, you see what i mean), never boring during solo. He had a great aerial sound and a very clear musical statement. He finished the concert in a duo with his great friend Dan Ar Braz, another legend!...
Check out Rory's first band, Taste --

Holy F**King Hell!!!!!
I'm so chuffed you got to check Rory out, he was a shooting star. You should have a watch of some of his earlier interviews, especially in Ireland where he was from, just to see what a truly humble gentleman he was too. No rockstar bullshit, no ego... just a guy who happened to be in the musical 1%.
Wow.
Rory was great, no doubt about it, but questions about ‘the greatest of all time’ are ultimately pointless. It’s about who you like most. I like Rory and Blackmore and Howe more than I like Hendrix, Page and Clapton, but that doesn’t make any one of them the greatest, because someone else will have different favourites. Just enjoy what you’re listening to!
Right on brother. Rory is my favorite. Glad you discovered him. I suggest finding a good version of bullfrog blues. You’ll see some mean slide guitar.
Respect already first for both
Jimi Hendrix said himself that Rory Gallagher was the best and I believe .
Have a look at In your town 1971 the beat club sessions. Brilliant. One of my favourites
Dude I remember him it's been a while but I have to pull out some of his records and start playing how you all doing man good
Cool breeze Even Jimmi mention Rory and z ZZ top
Man,it makes me happy to see you enjoy this. I'm 55. This is old shit. Rory was little know. Unless you love guitarists. Thanks 🙏
Rory is still never mentioned in the same breath as clapton, hendrix, page, beck, the usual suspects🎸🙄
Check out “What in the World” by Rory for another perspective, it’s a slow soulful blues song where Rory’s versatility, guitar work and talent really show through! Keep up the great reviews!!!
Rory Gallagher turned down The Rolling Stones . Check out his first band Taste.
Great video. Lotsa fun. Subscribing.
You're reaction is excellent
For me Rory is my number two guitarist. Only Gary Moore was better. I listen to both every day. As an American I just have to ask what is in the water on the Emerald Isle? Great reaction!
