Feel the same way, great memories growing up man, I was 8 years old 3rd grade, playing little league, we played this style of football up into hs in the 80s, bygone era man! 🖤💛💪
Brooksheier and Summerall made a keen observation here. Dorsett may have been light and quick, but he was actually better going inside than outside. Conversely, Franco Harris was a fullback, but he was actually more effective going outside and cutting back than going inside as you would expect. Watch Dorsett's TD and Franco's TD and it illustrates the point perfectly.
Its great transferring quality that really makes it look so good. Any good Sony or Zenith from the 70s would always look good as long as you had the proper antenna.
@@flexiblestrategist9922 + It could be, since there were 2 types of VCRs. I have seen plenty of video this good from VHS from the late 70s. Depends on the tape, and what speed it was recorded. But you probably know that.

One of the two regular season losses for one of the most underrated teams of all time -- 1977 Dallas led the league in offense and defense, won every playoff game convincingly. They got overshadowed because they were in the middle of Pittsburgh's run of 4 Supers in 6 years and the Steelers went 4-0 vs. Dallas during that time (I was a Pittsburgh fan, but this edition of the Cowboys was badass). Got to like Summerall and Brookshier on the commentary, too.
@topssuite Uh, yeah, that's what I said. But 1977 Dallas is like the 1984 49ers -- incredibly dominant on both sides of the ball and in the playoffs, but forgotten by many fans because of an even more dominant, charismatic team in the same era (in the 1984 49ers case, the 1985 Bears) in the same era. When the NFL did it's Top 100 teams last year, I was happy to see both teams get their due. I grew up a Steelers fan and can run off chapter and verse of the other three Pittsburgh-Dallas games of the era. This is kind of unique because it was the worst, most divided Steelers team of those six years.
Yeah, another Stiller fan here, this Cowboys team is very underrated. Maybe if they had beaten the Raiders or Steelers in the Super Bowl? 77' was a dreadful year for the Steelers. Nothing but injuries, contract griping and off-field drama.
I always wondered who those cars belonged to? Dallas just couldn't beat Pittsburgh in the 70's. This was a good game overall. Steelers had their offensive weapons going that day. Staubach had a poor game and that was the difference.
Hallrk63 The biggest reason that Staubach had a bad day was the Steelers' pass rush. He just didn't have time on a great many plays, and it got into his head on others. When you faced as persistent a pass rush as the Steelers in the mid '70's, quarterbacks were always in a hurry to get rid of the ball.
Robert Eugene OAK handled PIT well in the 70's from a physical standpoint. They may have lost in 74 and 75 but matched them physically. They went on to beat PIT twice in 1976 and once in 1977.
@@eugenemcgirt2357 Pittsburgh beat the Raiders in the 1972 season opener, in the Divisional playoff game that same season. They met twice in 1973, with the Steelers winning the regular season game in Oakland, but Oakland dominated the divisional playoff game. From 1972-77 they played 10 times with each team winning 5 games
1:57:50 That was one helluva throw by Bradshaw with a defender barreling straight at him, he waited to the last second for Bleier to finally release and threaded that pass beautifully between 3 guys. Replay from the rear is sick. One of the best executed screens ever.
This was the Cowboys last loss of the 1977 season. They went on to win their last 7 games which included a 27-10 victory over the Broncos in Super Bowl 12. This was the same Broncos team that defeated the Steelers 34-21 in the Divisional Playoffs.
It was also the same Broncos team that benefited by a blown call on the Rob Lytle fumble or the The Cowboys would have been playing the defending champion Raiders in the big game. Now that would have been a super Super Bowl!
I imagine Staubach would have loved to have played in today's game. He would have gotten to line up in the shotgun on every play and put up crazy passing numbers.
Back in the day when real men played football now just a bunch of football divas. You put those old boys against the fatherless mommas boys of today they’d be carrying those modern day players off the field on stretchers.
@Michael - I could not agree with you more!!! These guys are such pros! Today's announcers need to go back and listen to how Summerall, Keith Jackson, Don Criqui, Bill King (Raiders), Curt Gowdy etc....called a football game!
42:30. Drew gets leveled. Those were real football players back in those days. Nowadays, that hit is a flag and a fine...maybe an ejection. This was classic 70’s football. Love it.
I always thought he was properly rated. He got a lot of love from the national media. In Dallas, during his prime, he was basically a super hero. You couldn't go anywhere without seeing Dorsett plastered on billboards, poster, cups, shirts, hats, you name it. He was football royalty in DFW.
Notice the first generation soccer style kickers with Latin surnames? Those guys had legs like tree trunks. Converted soccer players playing an American game. The Gogolak Brothers changed football forever. So did Ray Guy.
I loved football back then..it was pure..no politics and media didn't have an agenda back then......I became a Steelers fan of course, because my dad liked Dallas,..Steelers were the only team that could beat Dallas back then..
you can see why they were the steel curtain. Greene, White, Holmes and Furness dominated the offensive line of the cowboys...........they were amazing and you can see the frustration that it created for Staubach. The Steelers just always had their number.

The Offensive line by the Steelers were the only ones ever reported from that team to have taken part in using steroids. The defense and skill position players did not. It was not illegal then, other teams were definitely juicing as well and that would include Dallas along with their high drug and cocaine use. Performance enhancers are still part of sports today. I’m not glorifying or justifying it, it’s just simply the reality of sports at the pro level.
They also lost to the Steelers AGIAN the following year after they lost Super Bowl 13. So from Super Bowl 10 to Super Bowl 13 the Cowboys lost 4 straight games to the Steelers. Was there any other team that dominate the Cowboys of the 70s like the Steelers did?
Richard Johns Hahaha. Yeah I remember that year when the “Orange Crush” made it to the Super Bowl just to get crushed by the Cowboys. How they were able to make it there was a mystery indeed.
Richard Johns Yes it was there Defense that lead them to the Super Bowl that year. It was pretty awesome for a short period. It was the offense lead by Craig Morton that really stank in the Super Bowl. That’s why they lost.
@Richard Johns both of those years the Steelers had a lot of injuries especially in 1976 Bradshaw was out Franco was out and Rocky was out but 76 was the best year of Defense for the Steelers they won nine straight games had five shutouts and like two or three games where the opponent only scored a field goal.... trust me if Bradshaw Franco and Rocky were playing we would have gone to the Superbowl in 76 and and won it... and 77 as well... there was no team like the 70s Pittsburgh Steelers... They had to change the rules because the Steelers with that dominant and even went the Mel Blount rule Mel Blount went to two more Super Bowls and three more Pro bowls... no other team has ever drafted five Hall of Famers in one year look it up 1974.... no CHEATING...just total dominance.... respect to the Packers of the 60s but the 70s Steelers greatest teams in NFL history hands down....
What's up with Dallas calling timeouts with 30 seconds left in the game down by 15 pts. There was no 2 pt. Conversion. No chance of winning but they continued to fight. Man I miss Tom Landry. The Steelers just had the Cowboys number. Unbelievable team they were. Wow! Thanks for posting! Great video!

Actually Three Rivers Stadium when you look at it really closely was made for baseball. There were so many lousy seats in the endzone there and very few seats between the goal lines.
You know, it's disgusting to know that these days that bit of info qualifies as trivia... Whereas to, dare I say, long time or old Steelers fans, that's just common knowledge.
I have gone to every Steeler game since 92. I felt that 3 Rivers was more fun because of the noise the fans could generate. Heinz Field has better sight lines and is a much better football stadium - but the open end means the fans can't force false starts with crowd noise. Or I was in my 20's in the 90s and too drunk to know what I was thinking!

Not too mention they caught Dallas in their only slump of the season, and of course, at Three Rivers. It would've been nice if one of these late 70's match ups had been at Texas Stadium. But it was what it was.
Yeah, I caught that too. I was 8 years old (and already a huge Cowboys fan) at the time. I watched this game with my Dad. Man, that was a long time ago. But watching this, somehow, brings it back, like you just saw it a little while ago. Weird.
What did that even mean. Those Billionaire owners bribe the local and state politicians to get them to build those palaces that their teams play in, from resident tax payers money. All the while the cities infrastructure is in need of repair. Sorry, since the beginning of human civilization everything is related to either politics or religion. You're just not conscious to it.
In a game where Tony Dorsett, who attended the University of Pittsburgh, made his first start for Dallas (I believe it was his first start but don't really remember), it was unusual to have an organ player during a timeout in a football game! Change was good in 1977! But we know that a Super Bowl rematch between the two teams had to wait one long year. (Pittsburgh would win that Super Bowl in 1979, and this game shown on You Tube--originally on CBS--in 1977. Dallas of course would defeat surprising Denver in 1978.)
Truly! The 70's and 80's NFL should be much more regarded as entertaining than it is currently! Some of the GREATEST players, played during these eras. Not to mention every era previous to the 90's and 2000's
The Cowboys just couldn't beat the Steelers in those days. One would think this would have compelled Tom Landry to adopt Chuck Noll's policy of letting his quarterback call his own plays -- especially since Staubach knew the Dallas offense like the back of his hand.
Cowboys would have won more super bowls, and I think Roger would have played longer if Laundry would have let him take over the offense. Laundry was a great coach, could have been greater if he wouldn't have been so stubborn.
@@usmc6004 how many years wasted on Staubach or Morton dilemma for Landry???why not start Dorsett his rookie year? Why Hogeboom over Danny White? Why not start Butch Johnson in the 80's ? @@ArcticRaven0, Exactly, TL was stubborn as hell Staubach said it himself, I was upset with Jerry @ 1st the way he did TL, but in reality Tex Sharm wanted to fire him before that because he wasn't willing to change. Then to watch Super Bowl XIII too which was amazing! I can't believe the NFL doesn't just have some huge on demand thing you can buy and watch any game that's ever been recorded. Thabk you for this!
Love how theres NO garbage ads and sponsors lining the field and behind the goal lines...
Those Steelers linebackers! Holy Shit!
When you have Green and Greenwood in front of you it helps
Nothing better than Pittsburgh vs. Dallas in the 70s.
Brookshier and Summerall... hearing their voices takes me back to Sundy afternoons with my dad and grandfather. Sure miss them both!
Feel the same way, great memories growing up man, I was 8 years old 3rd grade, playing little league, we played this style of football up into hs in the 80s, bygone era man! 🖤💛💪
@@dustinmartin8954 if only we could go back
You bet buddy, both sets of grandparents are passed on now, but my folks still kicking at 72 and 71. ❤️
@@dustinmartin8954 enjoy your folks and spend as much time S you can with them
This game is particularly satisfying as a Steelers fan, especially that drive in the 3rd quarter...
These are probably the best announcers ever. They just set the table and allowed the game to be the main course.
No doubt! Todays announcers need to go back and listen to these professional sports announcers...
Nah summers and madden
After 2 straight titles and 2 more to come in 78-79 and 79-80 it's hard to image the Steelers were only 5-4 coming into this game.
They were injured all year long just like 76.
I was just watching a Vikings-lions game from 1977. The pass protection in this game is worlds better than in the other game.
This is great picture quality for a 1977 game. I've seen many 80's and 90's games that are terrible compared to this.
You are correct......SIR!!
Its great transferring quality that really makes it look so good. Any good Sony or Zenith from the 70s would always look good as long as you had the proper antenna.
Probably recorded to BETA; which was much better in late 70's and early 80's to VHS.
@@flexiblestrategist9922 + It could be, since there were 2 types of VCRs. I have seen plenty of video this good from VHS from the late 70s. Depends on the tape, and what speed it was recorded. But you probably know that.
I love watching 1970s NFL football , the broadcasting and watching legendary football teams, today schedule 16 games increasing to 17 games it too long, for football players
The Steelers were tough! Had the Cowboys’ number back then...
Cars on the outer tracks in the stadium. You don't see that any longer.
Classic
1:57:50 That was one helluva throw by Bradshaw with a defender barreling straight at him, he waited to the last second for Bleier to finally release and threaded that pass beautifully between 3 guys. Replay from the rear is sick. One of the best executed screens ever.
This was the Cowboys last loss of the 1977 season. They went on to win their last 7 games which included a 27-10 victory over the Broncos in Super Bowl 12. This was the same Broncos team that defeated the Steelers 34-21 in the Divisional Playoffs.
@Mark Hall I remember this season. Not lucky at all. They whipped a lot of ass that season, including the Vikings
@Mark Hall lol. I wasn't quite sports conscious yet I think I was 5 or 6 years old then but seen the highlight many times.
And then the Steelers blew Denver out in the 78 divisional playoffs!
It was also the same Broncos team that benefited by a blown call on the Rob Lytle fumble or the The Cowboys would have been playing the defending champion Raiders in the big game. Now that would have been a super Super Bowl!

Pat Summeral described one defensive play it’s like the World Trade Center toppling on you…..
Pitt had Dallas number in 70's and Dallas had Pitt number in 90's. 2 dynasties.
I imagine Staubach would have loved to have played in today's game. He would have gotten to line up in the shotgun on every play and put up crazy passing numbers.
Well said Mr. Furley.

Anyone catch Brent Musburger in this? Man he was young back then. I grew up watching him commentate and still follow him
Back in the day when real men played football now just a bunch of football divas. You put those old boys against the fatherless mommas boys of today they’d be carrying those modern day players off the field on stretchers.
YES YES Finally someone said it out loud. Thank you
The only team Tom Landry just could never beat.
I wish today’s announcers would listen to the broadcast to see how it’s done.
@Michael - I could not agree with you more!!! These guys are such pros! Today's announcers need to go back and listen to how Summerall, Keith Jackson, Don Criqui, Bill King (Raiders), Curt Gowdy etc....called a football game!
Yes Michael youre comments ARE SPOT ON 100 PERCENT THANK YOU
42:30. Drew gets leveled. Those were real football players back in those days. Nowadays, that hit is a flag and a fine...maybe an ejection. This was classic 70’s football. Love it.
Thank you very much for doing this.
Notice how fewer people were on the sidelines back then…..
Dorset had to be 1 of the most underrated backs
I always thought he was properly rated. He got a lot of love from the national media. In Dallas, during his prime, he was basically a super hero. You couldn't go anywhere without seeing Dorsett plastered on billboards, poster, cups, shirts, hats, you name it. He was football royalty in DFW.
Underrated? What? LMAO. He has NEVER been underrated
cheers for the upload! great game too!
Dallas never beat the Raiders in the 70s
you can see why they were the steel curtain. Greene, White, Holmes and Furness dominated the offensive line of the cowboys...........they were amazing and you can see the frustration that it created for Staubach. The Steelers just always had their number.
Brandon Thompson steroids
vonholland- Shut The F##k UP!!!!! You have any proof? NO and even if they were using steroids like you clam I'm sure that the Steelers were not the only team that was taking them. I bet that the Dallas Cry Babies were too. SO SUCK IT!!!!!!

No L.C. Greenwood on this season ?
Even in a season where we won the Super Bowl we STILL couldn’t beat the Steelers.
Game was in Pittsburgh not Dallas so....who knows no matter Dallas not Pitt won the SB in 1977.
LOL. I remember visiting my Godparents that afternoon and seeing Dorsett's touchdown. That's all I saw of that game because we were there for Sunday dinner. Now get this: all these years I thought Dallas won that game. LOL. I was just as pissed off to see they lost as I would have been back then. But great nostalgia nevertheless. Thanks for posting. :)

Wtf?
Thanks for the post, lifelong Steeler fan that loved the dynasty of the '70s... What a defense and what a team!
Actually Three Rivers Stadium when you look at it really closely was made for baseball. There were so many lousy seats in the endzone there and very few seats between the goal lines.
You're right. I was glad when the Steelers got their stadium.
WRONG! !! It was made just like the Vet in Philly and RiverFront in Cincy. All three multi purpose for BOTH baseball and football.

This was a Must Win for the Steelers. I believe this season they struggled with injuries and inconsistencies. No Jack Lambert in this game .
Not too mention they caught Dallas in their only slump of the season, and of course, at Three Rivers. It would've been nice if one of these late 70's match ups had been at Texas Stadium. But it was what it was.
One unique feature at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh - no arrows on either side of the field.

Lou Rawls in the Budweiser commercial !! I love it, great memories from childhood and a much less complicated time back then.
Even a few of the commercials. This is awesome. Thanks for sharing it.
Truly! The 70's and 80's NFL should be much more regarded as entertaining than it is currently! Some of the GREATEST players, played during these eras. Not to mention every era previous to the 90's and 2000's
Back then defensive players were allowed to clobber the quarterback and cause concussions and other serious injuries.
One of only two losses for Dallas that season.

@BEASTMODE 2020 That was the next year buddy!
@BEASTMODE 2020 Dallas played Denver that year in the super bowl
The Cowboys just couldn't beat the Steelers in those days. One would think this would have compelled Tom Landry to adopt Chuck Noll's policy of letting his quarterback call his own plays -- especially since Staubach knew the Dallas offense like the back of his hand.
Yes, that was one of Landry's flaws. Also taking over the defensive play calling in "The Catch" game in 82...
Shula did it when he had Marino. Just wished TL would have let go of his ego.
