    The 8-1 Cowboys capitalize on a Franco Harris fumble to take an early 6-0 lead, but Franco redeems himself immediately, making a great cutback & then turning on the afterburners for a 61 yard TD burst on the very next play! Harris goes on to dominate the game, grinding out 179 yards on 29 carries as the Steelers run almost exclusively (Bradshaw is playing with a cast on his broken left wrist but still manages to throw a pair of TDs) and physically punish Dallas' Doomsday defense. The Steel Curtain is all over Staubach, especially in the 2nd half, sacking him several times & forcing a pair of interceptions, including a pick returned to the Dallas 2 yard line to seal the game 28-13. Video has complete halftime show (including a piece on Sadat's historic visit to Israel) and all commercials. Final 9 seconds of game missing (no biggee).

      Absolutely, without a doubt the greatest era of football, you put;
      1. Steelers in any era they would be the team of the decade. And thats from a Cowboys fan.
      2. Cowboys, if not for the Steelers Cowboys would have won 4 Superbowls.
      3. Dolohins went to 3 straight SBs winning 2 back to back SBs before losing some of their best players to new league( WFL) in 74.
      4. Raiders definitely would have won more than 1 SB if not for Steelers and Dolphins.
      The 80s, 90s, 2000s have never had an era were 3 teams won multiple SBs in the same decade and you cannot name an opponent that was as tough as the Raiders. This is the era I fell in Love with football and to this day in my opinion the greatest era of football.

      Yes. Less is more in terms of production. Just put the game out with some simple narration and insightful analysis, and let the story unfold. Networks can't do that anymore. It's now all about being jerked around for three hours with flashy graphics and endless replays and camera angle switches; just because the gee-whiz technology is available now doesn't automatically mean better coverage, especially if it's not used judiciously. There's too much bloviating from broadcasters, the majority of whom are unremarkable and cut from the same beige cloth. Meanwhile, the pace of play has become agonizingly slow with extended delays from replay reviews and mandatory commercial breaks; games no longer have a good rhythm. Don't even get me started on the post season, which is over-produced and has all but made the actual games secondary behind a steady stream of pop culture and celebrity.

    The TV commercial kills me for that 19 inch television. Many families back then only had one TV in your living room that was 26 inch and weighted a ton, sat on the floor. Things were so different and in some cases, BETTER.

      I remember; it was just a different time; and w/ time comes the technology to go back & revisit these games, courtesy of fans and / or industry / network individuals: If we had that access @ the time, it
      probably would have been as enjoyable then as it is now: U can actually take your much lighter laptop and/ or view on a TV u can actually lift by yourself if it ever needs to be moved, lol: one thing that was
      BETTER was how players acted; sometimes too reserved / business like, but not overly cocky like today's players; not a fan of guys celebrating like
      they scored when making a 1st down: @ the end of the game, maybe; I'm cut from the "act like a pro" cloth & if u do celebrate, do so in a smooth & classy fashion.

    As a true fan of Football since I was a child the 70s to me was the greatest era of football, and had some of the greatest teams of all time in the same decade. I am a Dallas Cowboys fan, I was 7 years old when this game was played I didnt fully understand the game back then like I do now, but I loved Tony Dorsett and remember this rivalry, it made football what it is now, I remember growing up telling my friends how fearsome the Steelers were and how Dallas could not beat them, it seemed like the Steelers had their number, they faced each other in two SBs and nearly faced each other 2 more times but both teams were upset in the playoffs, first steelers in 77 and Cowboys in 79, But Super Bowl 13, in my opinion was the greatest SB ever, the only Super Bowl were both teams had won 2 SBs in the same decade, the winner would be the first team to win 3 SBs, that game was so intense and had many twist and turns in that game were it could have turned the game in either teams direction, but 3 plays in that game Cowboys fans will never forget; 1. The dropped TD pass by Smith, The Pass Int. On Barnes, and the slip, accidental onside kick that R. White Fumbled, these 3 plays cost The Boys this game. In the end The Steelers were just better than the Cowboys, as a true fan of football, I have to admit that The Steelers were the greatest dynasty of any era and I believe they would have beaten all of the greatest teams of any era, because they dominated in my opinion the greatest era of football, the 70s, And that is from a life long Cowboys fan.

      the 'BOYS were all Tom Landry - every year no matter the roster, The Cowboys played a system that worked - it worked when Don Perkins was RB, it worked when Dorsett was RB, it worked regardless of QB, whether a truly GREAT player like Roger Staubach, or a stiff like Danny White, a far better punter than QB.
      As great a coach and system as the NFL has ever seen, and I say that as GIANTS fan.
      AND, think about this; over 40 years ago Tom Landry took the dust of of a system that hadn't been used since the 1950's, it was he, Tom Landry that reintroduced THE SHOTGUN when NOBODY had heard of or used it. That man was wayyyy ahead of his time.

      .@@bishlap ..i agree Tom Landry is STILL the greatest head coach the Cowboys ever had .but for some reason he seems forgotten now after Jimmy Johnson .who could have arguably won four straight but didn't want to stick it out ..where as Landry went to five Superbowls (winning 2) and just missed out on going to a couple more ..not to mention all those division titles and play off wins

      @@reesepacker7983 I'm a lifelong Giants fan, 60's so I know all about Landry's greatness. The Cowboys talent level w/ JJ was better than most Landry teams, but Tom kept innovating and was always a step ahead. The 'Boys always had great O-LINES and D-LINES, their offensive talent WAS TOM LANDRY -PERIOD

    If you were born after 1990 and love Football, please do not over look the Old NFL games no matter if team was great or not. The old NFL has a real mystique of how dangerous it was to be a NFL player. If you ever saw them comedy movies with scenes of guys getting carried out by stretcher into an ambulance, that s how it really was during those games but it was never a joke. most of starters played all downs and why it seems slow only due to players pacing their energy for the next down. The plays were so isolated as in man vs man, impacts were fierce. So many variables of the difference of rules but we can never set these players of yesterday a side as old timers. They were truly the last of the Gladiators.

      Youngers don't remember that. In the '60s you watched your home team and their opponent until the playoffs. Then in the '70s they started doing the double-headers (though often the second game was blacked out if your home team didn't sell out) so you got to see Dallas, Dallas, or Dallas on CBS and Oakland on NBC. Until the playoffs you didn't get to see a lot of the teams.

      George Blanca was a place kicker instead of a punter…but he did it at Kentucky and twice in the NFL, with both da Bearzs and the Raiders. He retired for good the year before Danny White came into:the game. They’re the only two that I’m aware of in the modern era, but in the earlier years the kicker(s) were just position players that could also kick - kicking hadn’t become as specialized as it is today, so there are likely others from way back in the day. In fact Pat Summerall, although primarily a kicker in the NFL, was also a tight end and defensive end in college.
      Interestingly as a sign of the evolution of the specialized kicker, while George Blanda was still playing in Oakland, mostly as just a kicker, the Raiders drafted Ray Guy, the only pure punter ever drafted #1 overall…
      George Blanda eventually retired at 48 years of age, older even though Tom Brady.

Yes, LA won in '75... but it was the last game of the season, nothing was at stake for 12-1 Pittsburgh (who already had homefield wrapped up and rested starters like Bradshaw) while LA needed a win to earn homefield over Minnesota. But to your point, the Rams did give the Steelers a pretty good spanking in '78, and they were a Nolan Cromwell dropped INT away from winning Super Bowl XIV. Looks like Captain Jack, LC, and Wagner did not play (injuries?). The Steelers had incredible depth. Winston, Toews, and Furness really stepped up.

      Former Cowboy fan chiming in to say, that depth Noll had is overlooked in a sea of Hall of Fame talent; ROBIN COLE is another terror that comes to
      mind: the ability to rotate & maintain the schemes was the impressive quality, aided by the speed in the linebacking core & defensive backfield.

      Kimberly Montalbano True. I'd say possibly but he made some huge catches on some huge games, for many years. Harris and Waters could HIT like trucks, and both thrived off one another.

    • @KingOfTheNighttime
      @KingOfTheNighttime 7 лет назад +3

      Depends on what one looks for in an elite team I suppose. I'd say the 77 team was more consistently strong, but the 71 team exploded once Staubach was finally named the starting quarterback and didn't lose a game after a 4-3 start.

    • @Zigg6411
      @Zigg6411 7 лет назад +6

      When you look at those 71' and 77' teams, it seems that the one advantage the 71' team had was their CBs. Herb Adderley and Mel Renfro were clearly better than Aaron Kyle and Benny Barnes. But otherwise, both were pretty darn good. The 71' team had more Hall of Famers, but I think a few of the 77' Cowboys should be in the HOF themselves. Especially Drew Pearson, Harvey Martin and Too Tall.

    Cowboys had lost to the Cardinals the previous Monday night, so they were going on short rest, plus they were playing on the road. Pittsburgh went 4-0 against the Cowboys during the 1970's, but none of the games were played in Dallas. Both Super Bowls were played in Miami and both regular season games were played in Pittsburgh.

      Steelers went 4-1. Cowboys won, 17-13, in Dallas in 1972. I happened to watch the '72 Steelers highlight film the other day.

      Former Cowboys fan: the "mid - season slumps" were a talking point, and if there's any truth to the movie portrayal of the Dallas "off field" lifestyle in
      "North Dallas Forty", that added to their tall tasks of
      dealing w/ a team like Pittsburgh, lol. the tactical error was either in "pre- planning" and / or as the game developed, was under - using Dorsett & Newhouse as receivers to spread the field / get 1 on
      1 underneath; hard to exclusively commit to intermediate / deep routes on a speedy & hard - hitting Steel Curtain defense; that was a major key
      to the interceptions & the final outcome.

    interesting fact: Roger Staubach, as great as he was, NRVER beat the Steelers during his HOF career. He was 0-4 against them including losses in Super Bowls X & Xlll. Even though the Cowboys would finish the '77 season as SB champs with a 15-2 record they STILL lost to the Steelers in this game. The Steelers would dethrone the Cowboys the following season & would defeat the Cowboys, again, in "79, during Staubach's final season.

    Whenever I see Pat Summerall the first thing I think about is I would have NEVER guessed he was a lifelong alcoholic! But he said it himself that he was. He just seemed like the professional well prepared announcer every time on all broadcasts. I think what helped him was he was a true fan of the game and never made it about himself.
    Ok also why are there vehicles on the field just past the endzone?
