I started watching football maybe 2 games before this one just looking for something to watch. I happened to see “the catch” and was hooked. Magical time
This is the gane that made me an NFL and life long 9ers fan! I was 8 years old and it was the first game I sat down and watched with my uncle, dad, and grandpa.
This was the first time I had watched this game since it happened. I had forgot about that near TD by Pearson. That tackle would be illegal now but not then. If Pearson had scored he would have had two miracle playoff winning receptions in his career. But Dallas didn't convert on all of those turnovers by SF. Missed many chances to put some distance between them. That was the game for them.
Also, on the very next play, Danny White goes back to pass, he attempts to throw a pass, but as he's bringing the ball back , he loses the ball just before he's hit and SF recovers the ball. Classic "Tuck Rule". But without instant replay, could never be called.
41 years ago. I watched it live. It was an incredible moment and so began the 49ers Dynasty in the 80s. Proud to say I watched it from the very beginning.
Lot of metaphors from that man that we can all use in our own personal lives in perseverance. His end is also an inspiration of how to handle certain death with dignity, love and how to inspire others even when facing the end!
This game was played on Jan. 10, 1982. I don't think that there could never be another game with this much drama and emotion ever played in sports history.
The crowd at Candlestick was just like the people in the streets in the Bay Area after that game. (I had just moved there a year before.) The party atmosphere everywhere was unreal. People had been waiting years to see their team in the Superbowl and it finally happened. It was insane but exiting to be part of it. Traffic jams with 100's of people running through the streets screaming, horns honking, Drinking and partying, people banging pots and pans together like some crazy New Years celebration on Steroids. I grabbed an old trumpet and blew it until my lips hurt...lol. I saw people literally running over the roofs of rows of stalled cars in the traffic jams. True pandemonium. Who new that my new favorite team would then go on for over a decade to kick ass and brake new records. Montana, Rice, Young....wow ! What great memories this brings back. This game started it all. I am glad I was there to be part of it.
i'm not surprised ... i watched this game; me my brother and 3 cousins 2 of them were cowboys fans and the other 3 of us went crazy when clark made the catch i KNEW it was one of the best games i had ever seen and then few yrs later i realized it was a SPECIAL game that would be remembered it's one of the greatest games ever played and the CROWD was unbelievable ; you can feel it just watching the game
I know video quality was amazing even back then that was a fun and exciting championship game to watch better than any they show now days so miss those days!!

That is how Brady, Manning, and other QBs achieved much better stats than Joe Montana. But one thing no QBs yet are able to match the clutch performances of Joe Cool Montana. John Elway was a good one but pale compared to Joe Montana.
I was 11 years old, watching this game on TV with my family and totally heartbroken thinking the niners were going to lose. When Clark made the catch my whole family went crazy. 41 years later as my life has gone by, this brings back so much nostalgia 😢.
Possibly the greatest game in NFL history. Hard hitting, superior play all around. Besides the play, story of the day was the incredible performance by the 49er defense faced with 6 turnovers!
It was a great game. But, it wasnt even the best game of the 81 playoffs. The week before the Chargers and Dolphins played the best game Ive ever seen in the Orange Bowl. The Kellen Winslow game. The Ice Bowl is the greatest game in NFL history. That thing was a test of manhood, and sanity.
Maybe too many turnovers to be considered the "Greatest" game, but maybe the greatest ending, and it goes down as 1 of the most famous games not only because of The Catch, but also because of the changing of the guard: looked at as the end of the Cowboy dynasty and beginning of the 49er dynasty

Maybe my favorite game ever! Great to see it again after so many years. The Dallas defensive line was practically an all-star team and they put so much pressure on Joe Montana throughout the game. People may not remember but Harvey Martin and Randy White were co-MVPs of the Super Bowl Dallas had won a few years earlier and they had Too Tall Jones as well. Considering the constant pressure, Joe was amazingly effective. It's a thrill to see it again. And Dwight Clark not only made "The Catch", but he made a lot of other great catches in this game. Finally, so important to remember the 49ers had so few good years before 1981 and it seemed like every time they were good, it was Dallas who beat them in the playoffs. That Dallas team had so many elite players on offense and defense. The 49ers came with waves of players but not a lot of stars. Bill Walsh and Joe Montana brought the brains, the talent, and the winning! This game felt so much like another time Dallas was going to slam the door until Joe Montana and Dwight Clark magic!!
It was a great game. Hard hitting defenses and great offensive maneuvering. I cringe when I think the Cowboys had Joe Montana rated #1 and did not draft him. That Joe Montana made the difference.
This game defined "Forty Niner Faithful" for many of us following that '81 campaign, even with the SIX turnovers, and the nail bitting, the shaken nerves and clammy armpits... we just knew we were going to win!
@@texasstadium For years up to late '80s Dallas had a profile that a college prospect had to "fit" or he wouldn't be drafted. 6' 2" & 180. Well, it's funny Joe met their standards, but wasn't drafted. Guess they wanted a QB who could punt, thus making him a "triple threat."Their loss; Niner gain.

This game brings back good memories I was eleven years old there was a bunch of kids at school who were cowboy fans cocky arrogant kids who would always brag about who good there team was .I felt so happy in school the next day since that time Joe Montana became one of my favorite quarter backs.
I started folliwing the 9ers in '79 from Manchester, England. My friend from Frisco told me, never to expect any good from his 9ers, they'll always ket you down. Boy, do i remember this game. Still supporting the 9ers 👌😁👍
What a game! First time I’ve ever watched this from start to finish. One remarkable play after another with the most famous one immortalized in NFL lore. Great announcing by Vin and Hank. Tremendous.
@@molzerib It's a long story, but the short end of it was that this was CBS' way of making up to Vin Scully for not officially making him the #1 NFL play-by-play man, and therefore getting a chance to call the Super Bowl with John Madden in Pontiac, Michigan. Pat Summerall, in case you're wondering, called the NFC Championship Game with Jack Buck on CBS Radio. This the last NFL game that Vin Scully would ever call. He of course, moved over to NBC in 1983 to become their new lead play-by-play announcer for baseball and golf.
i hated the cowboys and the thing was you just had the feeling the whole time that SOMEHOW the established powerhouse (the cowboys) would find a way to beat the "upstart" in the end so it was truly remarkable the way the niners just refused to lose that day i knew it was one of the best games i had ever seen and a few yrs later it began to be recognized as an all time GREAT game just listen to the crowd and that tells you it was just a special day for some reason
My wife and I were avid skiers in 1981and staying at Harrah's at South Lake Tahoe for this game 41 years ago. We were bar hopping and ended up at a Sport Bar at Harvey's Casino. It seemed like we were one of the few 49ers fans in the room. The bar was full of Texan Cowboy fans and they were having the time of their lives most of the game while I remember we were mostly despondent by the 4th quarter ...until The Catch. The Cowboy fans were shocked and the bar went silent, except for us and the small group of Bay Area fans. My wife and I will always remember that day and that play. Just as San Francisco was once Baghdad by the Bay, the Montana/Rice/Clark/Salomon /Walsh Dynasty was at it's height and most of the time, it seemed like Joe could do anything, especially his famous 2 minute drives. Some of the experts say Montana is maybe the 5th best quarterback ever, but they tend to look at Joe's stats too much, instead of his videos. 27 to 21 with 2 minutes 20 seconds in the final quarter. A special note: the crowd of 49er fans look like normal people and none of the players danced around or skipped like little girls. I no longer watch the NFL...to much political correctness. Go Michigan. Go Notre Dame. Go Auburn.
The broadcasting brilliance of Vin Scully: From identifying Dwight Clark to "It's a madhouse at Candlestick," Scully said nothing for 30 seconds. Whether it was football or baseball, he loved to give his listeners and viewers a chance to "drink it all in" at the stadium by letting the cheering crowd tell the story.
As a junior high kid, this broke my heart and I hated the 49ers for years. Now as a near 50-year old I can appreciate the greatness I witnessed, even if my team was on the losing end.
That's funny, same thing happened to me, but when I was in 4th and 5th grade witnessing the Niners lose those 2 NFCCG's to Dallas in '92 and '93. Watching the Niners them and stop the 3 peat in '94 was glorious redemption. Now this rivalry has been a bit renewed for another decade it may seem. George Washington Unfortunately yes. Ayers passed away in ‘95, Elliott in ‘08, Quillan in ‘16 & Fahnhorst in ‘18. With Solomon and Clark that’s six of the Niners offensive starters from this game.
Incredible drive. Staring at 89-yards, most coaches at that time would have just throw every play against the 6 DB's and a front 4 playing only for a pass rush. Walsh saw 4:54 and 3 TO's and crossed up Landry with 5 runs for 45 yards, 5 completions for 39 yards, and 1 penalty for 5 yards. Walsh's genius and vision of winning game situations was revolutionary.
No disrespect to Danny White but I would of loved to see Montana face off against Staubach who retired after the 79 season. Dallas lost three straight NFC championships from 80-82. I have to think they would of got to the SB at least once with Staubach
Watching that game live on tv as a young teenager living in the Bay Area as “The Catch” happened was euphoria enough! To actually have been in Candlestick at that moment must have been beyond words!!
Lenvil elliot lived down the road from me, he lived right next to my bestfriend and we were always throwing a football at his roof to try to get a glimpse of the pro ball player! I was only 10 or so, he was always cool with us. Also first time I've ever seen a deer get slaughtered was in his back yard! So cool to watch him play
I remember the game saving takle by Eric Wright more than I remember "The Catch". For a nano-second I thought the Dallas player was off for a 70 yard run after the catch. WOW!!!

Thank you for posting this. I'm a lifelong 49ers fan but I was only 3 when this game was played. My only knowledge of this game was "The Catch" replays shown on occasion. Side Note: A punting QB 🤯 what an interesting advantage.
The best football game EVER, IMHO But, I was there in the end zone, where Dwight caught The Catch, so I'm a little prejudice. LOL ;-) A couple of their SuperBowl's were pretty amazing, as well though.
A great game, and one of the best ever, but the greatest game in NFL history occurred eight days earlier in the Orange Bowl between the Chargers and Dolphins where the Chargers jumped out to a 24-0 lead only to have the Dolphins roar back to tie the game, with the Chargers winning deep into overtime 41-38.

Just a small part of why this game and The Catch was so memorable was the sunset & stadium lights combining to frame all the late action in an almost perfect, golden-amber "magic hour" filming light. It might also factor into why so many commenters here have mentioned the striking video quality. The combo of sunset & stadium lights was extraordinary,like it'd been custom designed for clarity, myth, and memory. And if Clark seemed like he came out of nowhere, that play was almost kinda normal compared to James Brooks' td play just a week earlier in the mind blowing Chargers-Dolphins Epic in Miami. Clark was at least running his designed route, but Brooks wasn't expected to be anywhere near where Fouts heaved that throw towards Winslow. Plus iirc (I was 8 yrs old at the time) I think the live camera angle of Brooks' catch was from behind the end zone, so all you saw was this sort of wounded duck ball seeminly float incomplete past Winslows fingers only for Brooks to materialize from absolutely out of nowhere like he popped out of the shadows on the bottom of the TV screen. Brooks and Clark were also both so seemingly chill about their catches too, both of them with simple quick spikes afterwards, lol, that was cool too. Great players, both of them,and two of the best NFL games of all time within 8 days of each other
Yeah I wasn't sure if him and Vin Scully were wearing one. Vin's matches up well if he is wearing one, especially when viewed from the side. Hank's, not so much.
The San Diego/Miami game was absolutely, phenomenal. Fouts and Winslow and Muncie we're the best offense ever put in the field. If they'd just had a mediocre defense they could have won some SB's. Then the San Diego/Cincinnati frozen bowl to follow. Later Dan Fours said he congratulates Ken Anderson for being able to throw spirals. And Ken Anderson said that, to this day, he has a blind spot in one of his eyes from the cold temperatures during the game. That was brutal.
I'm 43 and was 3 for this game. I live in northern Virginia and my dad was a redskins fan. He hated Dallas. So when the 49ers scored my normally reserved dad jumped up and screamed "YEEEEAAAAH". That's how I became a 49ers fan in 1981. The next Sunday I was asking about "...the red team."

Isn't the clock supposed to be stopped if a spectator runs onto the field, interfering with play? Play, and the clock, resume only after the spectator (s) have been cleared from the field. The few times I have witnessed show offs and streakers etc. run onto the field during time, the play was stopped. If the officials don't stop the clock, because they're scared and want to run to the sheds too, then that isn't on the players.
The greatest game in a young 49er fans life, I was in my first year of art school in Toronto Canada, watching from my room while a snow storm was blowing, we'd been beat by the dam cowgirls for years with John Brodie getting beat every year by the hated cowgirls. This was sweet and I nearly hit my head on the ceiling when Dwight Clark made that catch, what a game, what a QB, Joe was incredible and being a Notre Dame fan made it that much sweeter! Thanks Joe.
All this time, I thought the game ended with "the Catch". But, no. SF had to play defense and stop the Cowboys from the game winning field goal...the Cowboys needed about 15 yards...that tackle and fumble recovery was huge.
Also how could the NFL cut out half of Scully's call before the "The Catch" play? He said "Tom Landry is a stop away from going to his 6th Super Bowl, while for the upstart 49ers, they're 6 yards away from Pontiac". They only included the second half of this brilliant line.
and they cut Hank saying what a sensational game....this is one of the best moments....the commentators like little kids in the booth enjoying the action.
This is why I don't care for NFL prints of games... too much editing (huddles, injuries, time outs, etc) what's their point?? Heck I like these old games with the original commercials included.
Both head coaches in this game Bill Walsh and Tom Landry passed away at the age of 75, both from Leukemia. And their last season to coach in the NFL was the 1988 season.

At 46:08 Montana to Dwight Clark. And Clark absolutely "burned" that safety! I mean he put one of the best moves I've ever, ever seen before! Clark just "undressed" him on national TV!!! What a move baby!!!
I couldn't agree more, add to that it required a target at the other end running a precise route and grabbing a ball thrown at the receivers break before they even look back for QB and Ball. It was artistry, and nobody did it better for longer than the NFC. Well until Brady landed from the outer spaces.
I would cheat to if when I got caught, like the Colts game where the balls were under inflated, he preforms even better and embarrasses teams worse than he already was.
Joe had dancers feet. Guys like Craig Morton and Steve DeBerg didn’t. The drop back killed careers of Steve Bartkowski and Joe Theismann due to linebacker blitz. It eventually got Joe as well.

It was a "changing of the guard". The Cowboys were at the top of the NFL when this game began. This game marked the beginning of the 49er dominance for the next decade. The Cowboys never recovered from this defeat. It wasn't until Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys almost a decade later that the Cowboys actually started to recover from this loss. In that same decade, the 49ers went on to win multiple Super Bowls. John Hagan The reason there was no "concussion prodigal(protocol) crap" was because in 1981, nobody knew how serious concussions were. If they had such a rule, Dwight Clark might not be suffering from ALS, and Dorsett might not be experiencing memory loss. I also prefer old school football, but the concussion protocol is completely necessary for player safety.
God this is great! I was 8-years old and lived in a 1BR, 1BA apartment on 10th ave in the Sunset watching this game with my family. I had an asthma attack after The Catch and had to be taken to Kaiser on Geary but had a smile the entire time! This is like a time machine.

The video quality was excellent back then it just doesn’t often translate well to RUclips and of course there was no HD until I guess around 2000

Can we just appreciate how amazing the 1981 playoffs were. The Epic in Miami, The Freezer Bowl & this game all happened in an 8 day span. WOW!

Possibly the greatest game in NFL history. Hard hitting, superior play all around. Besides the play, story of the day was the incredible performance by the 49er defense faced with 6 turnovers!

1988 NFCCG San Francisco at Chicago is my favorite. Nobody gave the 49ers any chance at all and they ended up dominating all day.
Maybe too many turnovers to be considered the "Greatest" game, but maybe the greatest ending, and it goes down as 1 of the most famous games not only because of The Catch, but also because of the changing of the guard: looked at as the end of the Cowboy dynasty and beginning of the 49er dynasty

Maybe my favorite game ever! Great to see it again after so many years. The Dallas defensive line was practically an all-star team and they put so much pressure on Joe Montana throughout the game. People may not remember but Harvey Martin and Randy White were co-MVPs of the Super Bowl Dallas had won a few years earlier and they had Too Tall Jones as well. Considering the constant pressure, Joe was amazingly effective. It's a thrill to see it again. And Dwight Clark not only made "The Catch", but he made a lot of other great catches in this game.
Finally, so important to remember the 49ers had so few good years before 1981 and it seemed like every time they were good, it was Dallas who beat them in the playoffs. That Dallas team had so many elite players on offense and defense. The 49ers came with waves of players but not a lot of stars. Bill Walsh and Joe Montana brought the brains, the talent, and the winning! This game felt so much like another time Dallas was going to slam the door until Joe Montana and Dwight Clark magic!!
It was a great game. Hard hitting defenses and great offensive maneuvering. I cringe when I think the Cowboys had Joe Montana rated #1 and did not draft him. That Joe Montana made the difference.
This game defined "Forty Niner Faithful" for many of us following that '81 campaign, even with the SIX turnovers, and the nail bitting, the shaken nerves and clammy armpits... we just knew we were going to win!

This game brings back good memories I was eleven years old there was a bunch of kids at school who were cowboy fans cocky arrogant kids who would always brag about who good there team was .I felt so happy in school the next day since that time Joe Montana became one of my favorite quarter backs.

What a game! First time I’ve ever watched this from start to finish. One remarkable play after another with the most famous one immortalized in NFL lore. Great announcing by Vin and Hank. Tremendous.
I wonder why Brookshire and Summerall didn't call this game. No problem however. VS's call of The Drive, The Catch, etc. was awesome.
@@molzerib It's a long story, but the short end of it was that this was CBS' way of making up to Vin Scully for not officially making him the #1 NFL play-by-play man, and therefore getting a chance to call the Super Bowl with John Madden in Pontiac, Michigan. Pat Summerall, in case you're wondering, called the NFC Championship Game with Jack Buck on CBS Radio. This the last NFL game that Vin Scully would ever call. He of course, moved over to NBC in 1983 to become their new lead play-by-play announcer for baseball and golf.
Scully and Madden would have been a great team.

My wife and I were avid skiers in 1981and staying at Harrah's at South Lake Tahoe for this game 41 years ago. We were bar hopping and ended up at a Sport Bar at Harvey's Casino. It seemed like we were one of the few 49ers fans in the room. The bar was full of Texan Cowboy fans and they were having the time of their lives most of the game while I remember we were mostly despondent by the 4th quarter ...until The Catch. The Cowboy fans were shocked and the bar went silent, except for us and the small group of Bay Area fans. My wife and I will always remember that day and that play. Just as San Francisco was once Baghdad by the Bay, the Montana/Rice/Clark/Salomon /Walsh Dynasty was at it's height and most of the time, it seemed like Joe could do anything, especially his famous 2 minute drives. Some of the experts say Montana is maybe the 5th best quarterback ever, but they tend to look at Joe's stats too much, instead of his videos. 27 to 21 with 2 minutes 20 seconds in the final quarter. A special note: the crowd of 49er fans look like normal people and none of the players danced around or skipped like little girls. I no longer watch the NFL...to much political correctness. Go Michigan. Go Notre Dame. Go Auburn.
The broadcasting brilliance of Vin Scully: From identifying Dwight Clark to "It's a madhouse at Candlestick," Scully said nothing for 30 seconds. Whether it was football or baseball, he loved to give his listeners and viewers a chance to "drink it all in" at the stadium by letting the cheering crowd tell the story.
As a junior high kid, this broke my heart and I hated the 49ers for years. Now as a near 50-year old I can appreciate the greatness I witnessed, even if my team was on the losing end.
That's funny, same thing happened to me, but when I was in 4th and 5th grade witnessing the Niners lose those 2 NFCCG's to Dallas in '92 and '93. Watching the Niners them and stop the 3 peat in '94 was glorious redemption.
Now this rivalry has been a bit renewed for another decade it may seem. This video popped up in my feed and I saw this comment. Cheers

George Washington Unfortunately yes. Ayers passed away in ‘95, Elliott in ‘08, Quillan in ‘16 & Fahnhorst in ‘18. With Solomon and Clark that’s six of the Niners offensive starters from this game.

Incredible drive. Staring at 89-yards, most coaches at that time would have just throw every play against the 6 DB's and a front 4 playing only for a pass rush. Walsh saw 4:54 and 3 TO's and crossed up Landry with 5 runs for 45 yards, 5 completions for 39 yards, and 1 penalty for 5 yards. Walsh's genius and vision of winning game situations was revolutionary.

Lenvil elliot lived down the road from me, he lived right next to my bestfriend and we were always throwing a football at his roof to try to get a glimpse of the pro ball player! I was only 10 or so, he was always cool with us. Also first time I've ever seen a deer get slaughtered was in his back yard! So cool to watch him play

A great game, and one of the best ever, but the greatest game in NFL history occurred eight days earlier in the Orange Bowl between the Chargers and Dolphins where the Chargers jumped out to a 24-0 lead only to have the Dolphins roar back to tie the game, with the Chargers winning deep into overtime 41-38.

Just a small part of why this game and The Catch was so memorable was the sunset & stadium lights combining to frame all the late action in an almost perfect, golden-amber "magic hour" filming light. It might also factor into why so many commenters here have mentioned the striking video quality. The combo of sunset & stadium lights was extraordinary,like it'd been custom designed for clarity, myth, and memory.
And if Clark seemed like he came out of nowhere, that play was almost kinda normal compared to James Brooks' td play just a week earlier in the mind blowing Chargers-Dolphins Epic in Miami. Clark was at least running his designed route, but Brooks wasn't expected to be anywhere near where Fouts heaved that throw towards Winslow. Plus iirc (I was 8 yrs old at the time) I think the live camera angle of Brooks' catch was from behind the end zone, so all you saw was this sort of wounded duck ball seeminly float incomplete past Winslows fingers only for Brooks to materialize from absolutely out of nowhere like he popped out of the shadows on the bottom of the TV screen.
Brooks and Clark were also both so seemingly chill about their catches too, both of them with simple quick spikes afterwards, lol, that was cool too. Great players, both of them,and two of the best NFL games of all time within 8 days of each other

This game and the San Diego/Miami game in an eight day span---great stuff.
The San Diego/Miami game was absolutely, phenomenal. Fouts and Winslow and Muncie we're the best offense ever put in the field. If they'd just had a mediocre defense they could have won some SB's. Then the San Diego/Cincinnati frozen bowl to follow. Later Dan Fours said he congratulates Ken Anderson for being able to throw spirals. And Ken Anderson said that, to this day, he has a blind spot in one of his eyes from the cold temperatures during the game. That was brutal.

I'm 43 and was 3 for this game. I live in northern Virginia and my dad was a redskins fan. He hated Dallas. So when the 49ers scored my normally reserved dad jumped up and screamed "YEEEEAAAAH". That's how I became a 49ers fan in 1981. The next Sunday I was asking about "...the red team."
Dewight Clark was the grandson of my preacher growing up but his catch broke my cowboy loving heart.

Isn't the clock supposed to be stopped if a spectator runs onto the field, interfering with play?
Play, and the clock, resume only after the spectator (s) have been cleared from the field.
The few times I have witnessed show offs and streakers etc. run onto the field during time, the play was stopped.
If the officials don't stop the clock, because they're scared and want to run to the sheds too, then that isn't on the players.

The greatest game in a young 49er fans life, I was in my first year of art school in Toronto Canada, watching from my room while a snow storm was blowing, we'd been beat by the dam cowgirls for years with John Brodie getting beat every year by the hated cowgirls. This was sweet and I nearly hit my head on the ceiling when Dwight Clark made that catch, what a game, what a QB, Joe was incredible and being a Notre Dame fan made it that much sweeter! Thanks Joe.

All this time, I thought the game ended with "the Catch". But, no. SF had to play defense and stop the Cowboys from the game winning field goal...the Cowboys needed about 15 yards...that tackle and fumble recovery was huge.

Also how could the NFL cut out half of Scully's call before the "The Catch" play? He said "Tom Landry is a stop away from going to his 6th Super Bowl, while for the upstart 49ers, they're 6 yards away from Pontiac". They only included the second half of this brilliant line.
and they cut Hank saying what a sensational game....this is one of the best moments....the commentators like little kids in the booth enjoying the action.
This is why I don't care for NFL prints of games... too much editing (huddles, injuries, time outs, etc) what's their point?? Heck I like these old games with the original commercials included.

Both head coaches in this game Bill Walsh and Tom Landry passed away at the age of 75, both from Leukemia. And their last season to coach in the NFL was the 1988 season.

There was an aesthetic beauty to the drop back pass. That's largely gone now with the overwhelming amount of passes coming from the shotgun.
I couldn't agree more, add to that it required a target at the other end running a precise route and grabbing a ball thrown at the receivers break before they even look back for QB and Ball.
It was artistry, and nobody did it better for longer than the NFC.

I would cheat to if when I got caught, like the Colts game where the balls were under inflated, he preforms even better and embarrasses teams worse than he already was.
Joe had dancers feet. Guys like Craig Morton and Steve DeBerg didn’t. The drop back killed careers of Steve Bartkowski and Joe Theismann due to linebacker blitz. It eventually got Joe as well.

It was a "changing of the guard". The Cowboys were at the top of the NFL when this game began. This game marked the beginning of the 49er dominance for the next decade. The Cowboys never recovered from this defeat. It wasn't until Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys almost a decade later that the Cowboys actually started to recover from this loss. In that same decade, the 49ers went on to win multiple Super Bowls. John Hagan The reason there was no "concussion prodigal(protocol) crap" was because in 1981, nobody knew how serious concussions were. If they had such a rule, Dwight Clark might not be suffering from ALS, and Dorsett might not be experiencing memory loss. I also prefer old school football, but the concussion protocol is completely necessary for player safety.

God this is great! I was 8-years old and lived in a 1BR, 1BA apartment on 10th ave in the Sunset watching this game with my family. I had an asthma attack after The Catch and had to be taken to Kaiser on Geary but had a smile the entire time! This is like a time machine.
