Back in the day the rest of the afc central had quality teams as well and lots of the losses were to other teams in the division for all the teams. I really believe that games between the afc central teams in that era were pitting better teams against each other than the teams that were in the superbowl.
Tarkenton hall of Fame quarterback deservedly so and I remember hearing this that what the Steelers did was they came with a game plan to block his vision in the passing lanes because they knew he was not the tallest quarterback quarterback brilliant game design if course it doesn't diminish him as a legendary quarterback

This is great. I had the last quarter and local postgame coverage (along with the early part of SB13) on an audio tape. My grandma set up a tape recorder in front of the TV for my grandpa who had to work in the mines and couldn't watch. Unfortunately, this recording doesn't have my GM screaming and yelling in the background and yapping at the dog to get away from the TV.
This 1974 season was Mean Joe Greenes second and last nfl defensive player of year award winning season ,and unfortunately his final top 5 nfl player hierarchy. Poetic justice that Mean Joe Greenes last great season final contest was the Steelers historically dominant performance in a sb 9 victory .Its not coincidental once age and nfl battle attrition finally after 12 seasons overcame mean Joe Greene that the defense finally lost its dominant steel curtain presence.
I'd still take a diminished Mean Joe Green over a 100% Allan Page. Page was a great pass rushing specialist, but was ungodly bad against the run. Page routinely got pushed back like he was on roller skates against the run. Every team the Vikings played in the Super Bowl set a new rushing record thanks largely to Page. Page was a great athlete, but should not have been an interior lineman, he just wasn't strong enough to hold his ground.

That was terrific. Thanks for posting. I hadn't seen this since the original broadcast. (Can someone please explain why Gerela had to re-kick the first extra point when Minnesota was offside?)
Glad you enjoyed it! On Gerela’s PAT, they blew it dead before the kick because a Minnesota player made contact with a Steeler, making it encroachment instead of offsides.
Vikings couldnt run a foot and Tarkenton spent the game running for his life. The Steel Curtain killed it on this day.And Myron Cope called it just before the safety giving the Steelers the 2-0 lead😂😊
The earlier comments are spot on... I thought I was the only on muting Kurt + the NBC Steeler haters + the Oakland-John Madden cabal. Anyway great dubbing job, hearing Jack + Myron, so many great and hilarious calls/commentaries..... the 70's were definitely the Steeler as D Bowie said those Golden Years... God bless all
Given the Steelers' success in the Super Bowl era, it is often overlooked that for their first 40 years in the NFL, they were the least successful team in the league. The team joined the league in 1933 (they were a semi-pro team before then) but never won a championship before the merger and they only made the playoffs once which they lost. All that changed when Chuck Knoll became head coach in 1969. Since the merger, the Steelers along with New England are the most successful teams in the league, each having won six Super Bowls.
Most dominating defensive performance in Super Bowl history. Steelers (greatest defense of all time), held the Vikings to just 119 yards of total offense (17 yards rushing, and 102 yards passing). Not even the 85' Bears dominated the Patriots that much in SB20.
I don't think that people fully grasp how dominant the Steelers defense was on this particular day. The Vikings only score came off a special teams play. Otherwise it could have been the only shut out in Super Bowl history
The kind of power running game that the Steelers had will never exist in pro football now. The game is arena football on a larger field now. Every play is a pass it seems. The 93 Cowboys was the best power running team I ever saw, and the Steelers, the early seventies Dolphins, and the sixties Packers proved their worth with the power run.
How about no celebration after every tackle, or sack or incomplete pass, I love it, they are just doing their job and playing football..
well said. same for offense. today every play is a celebration, not to mention the scripted TD dances and turnovers on D. juvenile

great to hear local broadcasters call the game
Watching all those years that Webster played on special teams even after he was the starting center is just crazy to imagine in todays game.
@@mcmillenandwife Thank you. That explains it!
Traps, traps and more traps. Takes a lot of skill to run those.
I love these games. Keep up the good work fellow yinzers
This is amazing, first of all how you recovered the radio audio. Then to get it synced up so exactly! Very interesting game despite the low score.
Vikings couldnt run a foot and Tarkenton spent the game running for his life. The Steel Curtain killed it on this day.And Myron Cope called it just before the safety giving the Steelers the 2-0 lead😂😊
Classic super bowl vikings steelers a year after the vikings and dolphins in super bowl 8
as a 19 year old this game is all ready amazing and im not 10 mins into the game
I hope little John Fogerty was able to get a real swell orange sherbet push-up pop from the nurse and watch the game from his hospital bed.
I felt just like traveling in time. Thank you for this fantastic upload 🥲
So glad you enjoyed it! Be sure to check out our site. Quite a few games synced with Fleming and Cope. www.mcmillenandwife.com/steelers_mp4.html
@@mcmillenandwife thank you!
God bless all
The Steelers kicking game was like the keystone cops. Complete defensive domination and they couldn’t execute chip shot FG’s.
Looked like the Vikings griped a lot about the Steelers gang tackling
“Double Yoy!” Rest in Peace Myron and Tunch. I live very close to where Myron lived.

Classic commentary. Jack Fleming. Myron Cope best there was
If the field wasn't so slippery, I believe the Steelers would of have at least 28 points or better and the Vikings would have the 6. Just my opinion.
Fantastic! Many thanks.
Our pleasure!
There’s one thing Rocky understood more than any other back and that is to protect the ball, like a “loaf of bread”
