IF anyone asks, Growing up in Pittsburgh in the Magical 1970's IS without Any doubt the BEST time for A city and A boy who watched it all unfold. 4 Super Bowl championships ! 2 World series Wins And Pitt University winning A National championship ! God ! What A beautiful decade !
I remember all the great clashes between the Raiders and Steelers in the 70s, I see comments about these teams being afraid of each other, No that's not the case, These two teams hated each other but they also respected each other because when Oakland and Pittsburgh went down it got nasty. One of best rivalries in league history especially in the postseason.
I was 3 years old when this game happened so obviously I don't remember it but I DO remember 78 and 79. Especially 79 vs the rams. A long time ago but those were my childhood heroes.
the first 2 championships the D line was the best in the game, it faded a little in the later 70's but the passing game, I feel, became the best in the NFL. Ironically the Mel Blount rule helped all that. they drafted 5 future hall of famers in the 74 draft. But they had a great running game early SB years and always great defensive players.
Jack Ham actually got bored during that game. He played the side opposite of Schell and Upshaw, which Oakland ran to almost exclusively. At one point, he asked if he could come over to the other side and have a few cracks at it.
steelers fan,,,,bleir saved the day recovering that fumble,,,,steelers dominated, but somehow the raiders were winning 10-3 at the start of the fourth quarter
Some clown from another youtube video tried to tell me everybody was afraid of the Raiders, including the Steelers. I didn't see much fear here. Anyone see any fear from the Steelers?
No. Steelers were the only team that wasn't afraid of the Raiders...thats why they beat them this year ('74) and the next. Steelers fell to the Raiders in '76 but they still were in no way afraid of them. Steelers-Raiders rivalry was at it's peak in this decade...aint been the same since. It could've been renewed in '01 but the Raiders got fucked out of a earned win by the refs and the tuck rule... Life long Steeler fan and I hate the Raiders...but Raiders got FUCKED so hard by the tuck rule.
I would say that both the Raiders and the Steelers were feared by the rest.... I watched all of their games as a child (Raiders fan) and new when it was a Steelers/Raiders game..... shit was about to go down.
The Raiders beat the Dolphins in that Sea of Hands game, prior to this one. When Stabler found Clarence Davis in the back of the end zone, with only 20 something seconds left in the game, where Davis wrestled the ball away from like two defenders. The Raiders, however, ran outta miracles against the Steelers, because Bradshaw and them boys spanked 'em, 24-13.
Hopefully one day we can get a coach who understands how to build a defense. I never thought the Steelers would have such a horrible defense for so long. Fire tomlin
wtf?....i thought this was going to be the complete game...by this you'd never know the Raiders came "this" close to beating the Steelers....this vid makes it sound like the Steelers dominated the Raiders all day....I watched this game, it was a great game and only shit luck gave the Steelers the win!.....bullshit!
Your ass...By forcing Stabler to pass, Oakland had costly turnovers late in the game and with the Steelers running it up their ass, Oakland had a slow painful death in this game. Their only luck was the bomb to Branch. Otherwise, they did nothing
@@theraven3481 despite not being able to establish anything on the ground, the Raiders held a 10-3 lead through three quarters. Pittsburgh needed a 4th quarter comeback tp pull off the upset.
10 years old at the time, began my long time love for the Steelers. Here I am 55 years young and still love them Steelers!
I'm 58. Lived in East McKeesport.
And Yes ! You and many kids from back then.
Had those Glory days.
