I was privileged enough to be at this game. One of the greatest moments of my life, getting to see two of the all time greats in their prime!
I was there too. It was awesome!
Lucky!
@naelar13 that is a great moment in history to witness and attend

Brings me RIGHT back to my childhood.. throwback indeed.
Historic nostalgia so damn much
This was a monster RB matchup

Thank you for these awesome 90s games ....so many fabulous players and HOFs in this game
90's football was peak football.
Smashmouth and nostalgic snd the first year off Barry Switzer lmao wonder how Jerry would of done with twitter back then
I love it when NFL Throwback posts anything 80's to 90's, but especially mid to late 90's :D
September 19, 1994 was my ninth birthday. I was at recess when a teacher called my name. I turned around and saw my dad standing next to the teacher. I ran over, and my dad told me he was picking me up so we could go see the Cowboys play on MNF. He had to get me out of the middle of the school day, because we lived in Houston. To this point, this was the greatest day of my entire life, it's my birthday, and I'm going to see my beloved Cowboys kick the ass of the Detroit Lions. Then... well, you all saw what happened. Until watching this, the only two things I remember from that game was Emmitt breaking off a long run and getting dragged down by the face mask and the Cowboys losing. Despite the disappointment of the loss, this will always be one of my favorite days ever. I'm happy I stumbled across this video.
Eagles 🦅 fan here (I’m from Philadelphia) but great story. Really touching!
Herman Moore deserves more credit and recognition
Former Virginia cavalier legend with Moore go Moore combo in college
Agreed! Perryman was a great number 2 wr as well.
He was a great player for sure.
He deserves Hall of Fame

Has to be the greatest regular season RB matchup of all-time
Bo Jackson Barry Sanders
@@aceassn716 close I give you that. Lol
Barry had 40 rushing attempts this game! 40!
Different league, different kind of RB
I'll always be in the Emmitt camp, but I really miss this era of football.
Same sounded different guys didn't throw for 4000 yards but no targeting vs and more pure of a game
@@eric3298you had a few that threw for 4,000 back then
@NYGForever lions abused that man he was the Detroit lions. Rushed for over 1000 yrds 10 consecutive seasons and for over 2000 yrds in 1 season. Shame he played for lions and couldn't have been on better team. Him and Marino 2 of greatest players never to win s.b.
@NYGForever that was smash mouth football! Players back then were hard and had fight in them not like my cowboys this year. Truly a different breed and different game back then. I love watching games from 80s and 90s it was great as a kid learning and watching the game played back then.
If the "horse collar" rule had been in effect back in '94, there would've been 42 penalties in this game.
I was looking for this comment!
Lmao I believe former Oklahoma cowboys legend not Switzer Roy Williams lmao is part reason
That will be for the today NFL when getting 42 penalty.

Barry left the NFL as a mystery, everyone knew he would’ve broken the record, but he left us hanging. Sometimes our upbringing is a bit crazy and unfortunately Barry had a different kind of father. Thanks to Barry I had a real good look at what a RB’s gift. Emmit was very good but Barry was exceptional.
The helmets coming together was the best opening ever!! Miss this era of football.
That old school MNF theme!

That mnf intro was electric
Emmit knows in the back of his mind that Barry would have that record if he didn't retire. Best that ever did it!
Emmitt is example of what can happen if you build a great team around great back.
Sanders is example of what happens when you don't.
Offensively speaking they had the talent! Not so much at QB.. but Oline?!
They had Hartings Brown Glover
Moore Perriman Morton at WR
Sloan was solid at TE
@@aceassn716I agree. The Lions at that time were a good team but not consistent.
👏👏👏👏
No, more like one of the greatest offensive lines ever. I could rush for 100 yards with that o line. Emmitt is far from great as Barry talent wise.

As a long time Cowboys fan, Tony Dorsett will always be my favorite RB, but that doesn’t mean that he’s the greatest running back ever, that title will always belong to Barry Sanders! No one will ever top Barry Sanders!
Back when throwback jerseys were a novelty.
Exactly, now every team has 15 different uniforms.
This was during the 1994 season where every team wore their throwback uniforms all season long for the NFL’s 75 anniversary. Sadly they didn’t use this idea for 100th
@@jalengreen1301My Bears and the Steelers had the ugliest ones I recall!
Barry Sanders was the only football player to get me out of my seat. Dazzling, sensational RB. Best ever!
Bo Jackson, Randy Moss, and Deion in addition to Barry for me. Later on Dez Bryant was ridiculous to watch him go up and get the ball.
Playing Madden and Tecmo Bowl during the 90s was soooo much fun!
Still is.
Amazing game. Remember Barry did it without a strong O-Line his whole career. Never seen a back as elusive as him. Those hips swiveled and legs accelerated fast AF.
Thank God for this games, it brings me back a lot of memories!!
Favorite channel so much nostalgic memories
Even Barry's average short-yardage runs were most often superb runs. And of course, Barry Switzer knows ALL about Barry Sanders' threat.
Lmao why cause he went to Oklahoma st with thermal Thomas? And Mike gundy at qb
Real difference is Emmitt probably had the best O line ever assembled. If Barry had that line he would be the undisputed rushing champion of all time!

NFL 75th Anniversary Season. A nice, uncluttered screen with no stats crawl and no yellow line for a first down. And 9pm Kickoff when MNF was a real event. And they could actually play defense. Those days are long gone sadly.
Back when running the ball still mattered.
Clash of running titans!!!
Top 2 statistical 90s rb on Monday night football lmao time flies I was in kindergarten
Barry juking in the backfield making magic. Smith getting touched 3 yards passed the line of scrimmage. Barry is the goat!!
Barry Sanders all day, everyday.

Emmit had the best O line in NFL history. Barry made his own yards. It's not even close to who was better.
Okay, THIS is *PEAK* Football!
Next year years Packers could of won 3 championships 😭
Smashmouth Larry's Allen era the Pitt!
Barry and Emmett were by far and away the 2 greatest running backs of this decade. Also, I think one of the biggest myths about Barry Sanders career in Detroit, is that he was basically a one-man show and was on a bunch of bad teams. Just not true. He was clearly the best player and the face of that franchise, but he was able to play with one of the most underrated receivers of that decade in Herman Moore, and another really good receiver in Bret Perriman He was also able to play a majority of that time with one of the better defenses in the league led by Chris Spielman. Those lions teams were never Super Bowl contenders, but they were solid to good in the years they made the playoffs. In Barry’s 9 year career, he actually made the playoffs more years than he didn’t.
Barry was a great runner, I wished he could have played longer..
He retired at the right time
Usually the players know how much gas they have left in the tank
Barry is the GOAT!!
This might have been the greatest running back dual of all time
THe best years of the NFL for me was 91 to 95! That MNF booth of Dierdorph, Michaels and Gifford was the greatest ever. I remember this intro like it was yesterday

Glad to see this one finally make the channel. One of the best MNF games ever in my opinion.
This was back when the running game really mattered, when it was an essential part of helping any team with gaining extra yards and scoring. Emmitt and Barry were the two best RBs of the 90s and whenever their respective teams clashed it was always a classic, exciting must see TV football game.
That Dallas Off line was nasty put Barry behind that and see the difference
The Great Wall of Dallas.

Incredible nostalgic feeling hearing the old MNF music beds (intro + coming in & out of commercials). So great!
I like the Throwback uniforms/helmets event among many teams in '94.
In '15 we had the Color Rush event among most of all teams.
Now under multiple helmets rules, we are seeing the revival Throwback events and all-white/black trends.
I'm looking forward what event we'll see in the future...
I think Barry sanders is the only rb I have watch on highlights cause he retired before I was born but that if you have it to on a draw with 3rd down & 10+ I would expect him to get nearly every time
I miss the NFL when players had heart and wanted to be the greatest at their position.
facts, now they just want to get good film so they can get paid.
Most of the players except a few pictured here are broke and debilitated. I do not blame today’s players for wanting their money.
Back when football was a man's game!!
I bet that you are an old, pathetic “never was.”
Herman Moore may be one of the most underrated receivers of all time.
Swap Barry and Emmit (Barry on Cowboys and Emmit on Lions) and it would have been an entirely different game. Barry was already unstoppable, now imagine him with that Superbowl winning offense.
@geraldjuvejr.6171
Barry had the privilege of playing in the easiest division in football. The Bucs, bears,Vikings and Green Bay were never in the top 10. Meanwhile Smith would play against the toughest defenses not in division but outside. Giants,Redskins and eagles were top 10 during Emmitts career. Detroit had a top 5 offense from’94-98. 95 their offense was number 2. So go ahead and put Smith with the lions he’ll still carve up teams with that cake division they are in.
@danmccarthy3762 2-3 of that 'easy' division (at the time called the 'black and blue' division for a reason. Even if a team in that division had a crap year, they'd play like a playoff team against a division rival) 2-3 made it to the NFC playoffs half the years Barry was playing. The Packers dominated the NFL in 1996. So, I stand with Barry. Not saying Emmit was bad. Barry was just a little better.
@geraldjuvejr.6171
You missed the point buddy. I’m not taking away anything from Barry either. He definitely was the most electrifying runner. But facts are facts he had the luxury of playing in a crappy division his whole career. And the easier overall schedule. He rarely played a top 10 defense. Packers and Vikings offense got them to the playoffs. They were never ranked in the top 10 let alone the top 12. Packers in 96 finally did. Vikings all you had to do was double Randle. Barry actually had more luxury in the fact Lions offense was a top 5 from 94-98. Barry had Herman Moore and Brett Perriman to keep the secondary from moving up. Then it Moore , Perriman and Johnnie Morton. Talk about luxury. Vikings and lions had one of the highest scoring and yard totals in a game. Barry got 100. Moore , Perriman and Morton got 100. Emmitt never had that luxury. Irvin was they had. Once Irvin left Emmitt had no one. He had to earn every yard. Barry still had Moore , Morton who got 1000 and Germaine Crowell who got 1000. So don’t tell me Barry had it hard as Emmitt. Especially Barry first half of Barry’s career the central absolutely sucked. If Emmitt had what Barry had god only knows how more yards he would have had.
So blessed to be born in the late 80s and raised in the 90s. everything from the 90s was legendary. The sports, The music, fashion, cars.
Todays kids will never understand.
Sanders is probably considered greater that Smith, but I would always take Smith in a crucial short yardage situation.
This is definitely a deserving throwback game. Last time Barry and Emmett played each other.
And I like seeing the score flash at the end of the quarter/half. I would keep that up even for newer games with the score box.
I always love Sanders fans. The fantasy world they live in must be fantastic. As long as you ignore Smith has the most career rushing yards, the must rushing touchdowns, most rushing yards in post season, most rushing touchdowns in a single season, and if you ignore the reality Barry Sanders tanked in every single playoff game he was ever in, then yeah he's the best :D
We need some of those intros back, awesome!
Barry Sanders hands down the greatest running back of all time in my opinion
This was the first game that I got to see in person. It was for and on my now, wife's birthday that year, now 30 years ago!! It was a great game that went into overtime and it was also the last time Emmitt and Barry would face each other. Fortunate to say that I got to see this live!!
Barry was badass Emmit kept playing Barry didnt want it no more thats why Emmit takes the crown
The real MNF of the 90s. There were some classics and this was one of them. I was 10 and best believe I watched this one. A rare moment of Emmitt vs Barry and they both showed up.
You were able to stay awake for the 4th quarter and overtime?? When I was 10, I couldn’t. 🤪

the Detroit Lions beat two defending Super Bowl Champions (Dallas Cowboys & San Francisco 49ers) on MNF in back to back seasons (1994 & 1995)
It's a shame that Barry was stuck on such a middling team. Several times it looked like the Lions would rescue defeat from the jaws of victory.

Nostalgic barley remember farther than this for NFL history 95 super bowl best I can do im 35
1994 was a really good year for MNF.
Cowboys lost because they kept throwing it at critical times, instead of Emmitt.
This video brings back memories of not just these two players but the days of huge shoulder pads. People don’t realize how those pads made it hard for receivers and quarterbacks by limiting range of motion. I played QB, WR, and DB in that era. As a throwing motion you couldn’t come over the top like the pads allow today. It was heavy arm strength because your shoulder couldn’t raise your arm and 90 degrees. Same with catching the ball. Today you see all players with small shoulder pads allowing full motion of their arms.
90s sports were so much better than anything today in 2024
My Wife, her girl friend and I were at that game... End Zone Seats Upper level... hard for us Cowboys fans but what a game matchup to watch TWO of the top NFL rushers in history go at it. Detroit did treat this game like it was their Super Bowl. 😂
