This was during the 1994 season where every team wore their throwback uniforms all season long for the NFL’s 75 anniversary. Sadly they didn’t use this idea for 100th
The real MNF of the 90s. There were some classics and this was one of them. I was 10 and best believe I watched this one. A rare moment of Emmitt vs Barry and they both showed up.
Two of the top 5 RB's of all-time playing simultaneously. Different running styles, but both with the same talent and determination. I feel blessed to have grown up watching the career of these two. These were two great offensive teams at this time.
NFL 75th Anniversary Season. A nice, uncluttered screen with no stats crawl and no yellow line for a first down. And 9pm Kickoff when MNF was a real event. And they could actually play defense. Those days are long gone sadly.
I like the Throwback uniforms/helmets event among many teams in '94. In '15 we had the Color Rush event among most of all teams. Now under multiple helmets rules, we are seeing the revival Throwback events and all-white/black trends. I'm looking forward what event we'll see in the future...
I think Barry sanders is the only rb I have watch on highlights cause he retired before I was born but that if you have it to on a draw with 3rd down & 10+ I would expect him to get nearly every time
I love Emmitt Smith, but Barry Sanders was just better, he did more with less help.. And if he would've played longer.. He would've been the all time leading rusher 💯
Barry Sanders was not a threat in close yardage situations. If I remember right he did not play goal line snaps at all. He was amazing in the open field though.
Yea, nothing against Smith, but Barry had to work way more to get those yards. Gaping holes to run through created by the Cowboys monstrous offense line. Meanwhile, Sanders is running backwards four to eight yards to net positive yardage.
This was the first game that I got to see in person. It was for and on my now, wife's birthday that year, now 30 years ago!! It was a great game that went into overtime and it was also the last time Emmitt and Barry would face each other. Fortunate to say that I got to see this live!!

THe best years of the NFL for me was 91 to 95! That MNF booth of Dierdorph, Michaels and Gifford was the greatest ever. I remember this intro like it was yesterday
Let me tell you why Barry was better..... Emmit Smith had the best offensive line leading his charge. Barry never had the O Line he deserved.....if you watch highlights of Barry......he could make a 5 yard gain look like a miracle just from him evading tacklers in the backfield.
I wonder what happens if Barry Sanders didn't retire early. Does Detroit finally build a team around him, or does he gets traded away? Could be a good what if video.
Barry and Emmett were by far and away the 2 greatest running backs of this decade. Also, I think one of the biggest myths about Barry Sanders career in Detroit, is that he was basically a one-man show and was on a bunch of bad teams. Just not true. He was clearly the best player and the face of that franchise, but he was able to play with one of the most underrated receivers of that decade in Herman Moore, and another really good receiver in Bret Perriman He was also able to play a majority of that time with one of the better defenses in the league led by Chris Spielman. Those lions teams were never Super Bowl contenders, but they were solid to good in the years they made the playoffs. In Barry’s 9 year career, he actually made the playoffs more years than he didn’t.
Luckily, I was at this game! It was awesome to watch 2 of the best rb's of all time on display. It's one of my most fond football memories even though my Cowboys lost that night
if Barry played 3 more years (which is the same amount of years that Smith did) he would have 3 more years to get 3086 yards which is an average of 1028.67 yards per season he probably does it
For those who credit all of Emmitt's success to the OLine(and Moose), please tell me why only one of them are in the Hall Of Fame. And Larry Allen(RIP) wasn't even there for the first 2 super bowls, although was the GOAT.
Thank you! By the time Larry Allen arrived, Emmitt had already won ROY, Super Bowl MVP, NFL MVP, and led the league in rushing for three straight seasons.

The MNF was unmatchable showdown between Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith. Barry Sanders was known for his elusive running style, making defenders miss with his quick cuts and agility. Emmitt Smith, on the other hand, was a powerful runner who excelled at finding gaps and using his offensive line to his advantage. My favorite moment was Emmitt Smith had the strong performance, contributing to the Cowboys offense. This was a back-and-forth battle, so the Lions won 20-17 in overtime with a game-winning field goal. Do you have a favorite moment from that game or a preference between the two players?🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈
