I’m with you on that. Football today is nothing like it was in these days. I think one of the big turning points was when they began demolishing all the old dual purpose stadiums. It was especially a bummer to see Three Rivers Stadium go.
I remember being home in leave in 2002 from Fort Bragg, and going to see Les Claypool at Station Square. Across the river, you could see Three Rivers stadium being rigged to demolish. I was so pissed seeing that
The old stadiums gave the game nostalgia of its own. I always ,over seeing the dirt baseball infields on the football fields early in the season, like in Cleveland, Anaheim stadium, metropolitan stadium in Minnesota, County stin Milwaukee… so many more

That's a good point, simply because a football fan who knew
about the Steelers was looking at the fact that it became one
dimensional. Zero running game left the Raiders knowing what
Pittsburgh had to do. And that was to throw the football. No
running game makes it harder to open up the passing game.
Edge clearly goes to Oakland in this game. Not taking anything
away from the Raiders. They beat a lot of good teams that
year, and the Vikings could give any defense trouble. I always
agreed with the Raiders linebacker who said he wanted to beat
Pittsburgh when they were at their best. The rivalry compelled
both teams to play their best game.

I was a Steeler fan, but their advantage was minimal. In Super Bowl 13, Dallas had a wide open receiver drop a td pass that was right in his hands...so they took a field goal...the differential in points went from the 7 they would have had to 3...and those 4 points were the difference in the game...If Pittsburgh was THAT much better, they wouldn't have had to rely on such a fluke play to win. Those Dallas-Pittsburgh Super Bowls from the 70's were among the best ever played, and they both came down to a play or two here or there...

In the 70's, if you beat Pittsburgh, or Dallas, or Oakland....or even Miami, in the first half of the decade...that was an achievement. @@natureboy1313Renfro non TD call is the most overrated moment in NFL history .One ,it only would have tied a contest in the 3 qtr ,it was on second down ,the oilers still.had 3 rd down to convert a first down or td ,failed at both ,and the oilers still.had portion.of 3 rd and whole 4th qtr to defeat steelers who scored the games final 10 points ,holding the oilers scoreless ..Oilers QB and headcoach both admitted afterwards the renfro controversial non td call.didnt decide the game ,that Steelers were simply better . There's also a above footage replay of the renfro play which clearly shows him subtly bobble ball while cascading out of bounds ,in a quick decision for ref situation.in which he has to make a judgement decision ,which when context is applied wasn't the abomination bad call that its percieved to be . The Steelers in similar circumstances vs raiders in 74 AFC title game were actually robbed of a TD when Stalworth made a one handed two feet toe tap grab ,they didn't become so distracted that they fell apart ,they proceeded to win the game . A Steelers team who were three time SB champs .with 5 hofers on both sides of ball,Hof headcoach ,at home in the AFC championship vs a oilers team who in two consecutive post season games hadn't scored a single offensive TD weren't going to lose against the oilers ,even if Renfro was awarded his TD ,and the final.score would have been by double digits .

Notice how the defenders help the runner/receiver/QB up at the end of most plays? These days, they kick them, step on them, spit on them.. . .SMH.

Even though being a cowboys fan this games not one of my favorite. But it was a great time to watch so much talent. How or why with all the talent on the field off. This was a 14-3 game I no clue. Yes the d was great on steelers. But cowboy d had a poor year in 79. And the steeler d still good but not quite as good as some of theyre years n cowboys off. Had a great year. Who knows

Just some more facts that faced steelers in 1976 afc title against raiders, franco and rocky were out plus a third back frenchy was hurt some and played some in the game. Plus there very accurate place kicker gerela was hurt and they had a backup center who kicked for the steelers in the game instead. No doubt if Terry would have had franco and rocky 2 clutch performers and gerela in the game to kick field goals the steelers would have crushed oakland. One week before when they were healthy and had franco and rocky playing they demolished a strong colts team that alot of people said were the best afc team in the playoffs.

I think it was in 1982 or 83' but Sydney Thronton was really fumbling a LOT and a reporter said something like "aren't you worried about your job"? and Thornton said "who else are they gonna put in"? The next week a guy named Frank Pollard started from then on out. Thornton never started another game. Chuck Noll did NOT take that kind of sh!t. Very "Old School".

Three Rivers Stadium was imploded in spring of 1999 or 2000 as Heinz Field was nearing completion. I was next door wiring the HVAC controls (IBEW) at PNC Park. BTW there are Terrible Towels buried under Heinz Field and PNC Park.

I’ve been a Steelers fan my whole life despite growing up in Long Island. There was a few years I actually stopped watching it though because I got fed up with the nonsense. Just play football you know what I mean? They get paid too much as it is imo so shut up, play football and lose the victim mentality. Just my opinion.

@@Freedomtospeak1 I'm from central IL, and became a Steeler fan in '77 because I had a friend playing for the Steelers. So much fun to watch, and cheer for. Went to an FCA event, where Tony Dungy was the keynote speaker. He got drafted in the same year as my friend. I told Tony a little background information, and before I mentioned my friend's name he answered my question before I was done asking it. Found out from Tony, my friend was the one who introduced Tony to his soon to be wife. Neat stories you hear.
