I977 Dallas Cowboys should've been in the top 3 in the Greatest Superbowl Champions rankings. They had the #1 ranked offense and Defense in 1977 and totally dominated through the playoffs that year.#DoomsDayDefense
They were also slow and gave up big plays in Super Bowls. Just look at the Steelers highlights and you will see them taking wrong angles and getting burnt by Swann and Stallworth.
They were also the biggest whiners in the NFL. The way those two would jump around and yell and scream at officials while protesting an obviously correct call was embarrassing. The refs were a lot more lenient about that stuff back then, but today they would be getting 15 yard penalties on the regular.
Here's a kind of a funny story for you guys who grew up a Cowboy fan, if you don't mind reading it. I'm from Lubbock. Tx. and in 1975 I was only a 2nd grader but an extremely passionate Cowboys fan. I favored all of the obvious players, especially guys like Staubach, Hill, Garrison, Newnouse and Richard's. My best friend was a Bob Lilly fan and had 5 jerseys with #74. He asked me one day why I didn't like defense guys and so overnight I became a Charlie Waters fan. My brother was in high-school at the time and the booster club had managed to get Charlie Waters to come and speak at the high-school athletic banquet, a 3A school east of Lubbock. Our school had a brand new cafeteria that would hold close to 400 people and we filled it that night, anticipating that were about to see, hear and hopefully meet a real Dallas Cowboys football player. I can't even explain how excited I was and my mom had got me a seat up front where I'd be about 15 feet from where he'd be speaking. The booster club had obviously paid for his travel and so my dad and 2 other dad's went to pick Charlie up at the airport. My dad had just bought a new maroon Buick and so it was the nicest car available to give him a ride to try to show as much respect as country folks could. Well, when they got to the airport they saw the plane was like 30 minutes late so they used a pay phone and called the school to let everyone know that they'd be a little late. No big deal, everyone was finishing up eating and visiting. About 45 min. later, the cheerleaders who were watching for our car to drive up came running into the cafeteria to let everyone know they had arrived. Well, the 3 dad's had arrived but Charlie Waters had not got off the plane and no idea why.. He had no showed and that's all we knew and all anyone would ever know. They handed out all of the awards and went home. I was disappointed and had to drop him from being one of my favorites; but now it's just a funny childhood memory and I'd still like to meet him if I could.
These dudes were so crazy back then not just because of how they played back then but what they played on. Astroturf back then was just green carpet over concrete

Too bad Tom Laundry didn’t know how to use Thomas Henderson. Thomas should of been used the same way the Giants used Lawrence Taylor. Thomas had the speed and athleticism to destroy quarterbacks.
Truly great team that the 1977 Cowboys put onthe football field for most of the NFL opposing teams, fans , and media outlets to be invious of . Outstanding at every level, the dismantling of the Vikings inthe conference championship game basically terminated the Vikings as being a authentic SB contender for the rest of the decade . Ownership ,GM,Coaching ,Offense, Defense Special Teams ,and yes, dem.annoying , obnoxious fans, Crazy Ray, those Cowboy Chearleaders that permeated a cult following not only in Dallas but practically near every region in America television ,print media, radio ,writers broadcasters ,executives and ,fandom alike that watched NFL football . The 1977 Cowboys can easily stand up against any NFL / SB team in regards to their great conglomerate of talent . This coming from a Steelers fan who dispite hating them and that cringe worthy fan base ,i respected them emmensly . Some seasons in every sport just seems perfect in reference to social climate ,and that particularly sports moment to capture a championship ,ie the Saints SB win after hurricane Katrina devasted the state of Louisiana ,the Packers 66,67 SB victories over AFL teams , the Jets and Chiefs validating the AFL as a legitimate fraternity by capturing the final 2 AFL vs NFL championships ,,85 Bears ,76 Raiders finally successfully scaling Mount Olympus and the Steelers first SB victory ,the Colts iconic OT victory for the NFL championship in 1958 over the Giants signaling the envogue of the NFL on national television ,1977 just seemed perfect for the Dallas Cowboys to emerge as a legitimate contender for team of the 70's decade with it's 2 SB victory in that time period, 4 SB appearances . Congratulations Cowboys fans this 1977 team was stunning to behold . Salute out of respect ,hope the Pittsburgh Steelers recieve the same from you .

What a shock. If only Hollywood was allowed to play weak side LB, theyd be the greatest defense in history. Whatever. As great as he was, Landry's philosophy was almost written in stone. People call you soft, until you get your ass kick by the thing you called soft. If that's soft after an ass kicking, what does that make you? Hey, Buddy Ryan's 46 Defense was a read and react defense. But nobody is calling the 85 Bears soft. At least not to there faces, even now. As much as I hated the San Francisco 49ers, it still wasn't as a finesse as you think. It just means you don't know jack about football.
Drew has got to be embarrassed with all that damn whining and crying he was doing about not getting in the hall. They finally inshrined him just to shut him the hell up. 🤨
You gotta look at it from his position Drew is one of the best cowboys WR ever he really believed he was one of the best i believe he was one of the best ones as well but i also believe there were other football players who we're better than him. They're many other football ball players who are also waiting to get in as well some are disappointed just like Drew was year after year. Chris Carter was one of those players waited for many years to get in.
If you tell a kid to name 5 WRs, one of the names they say will be Drew Pearson's. Kind of ridiculous that just because he didn't have Jerry Rice's numbers, that he wasn't enshrined a lot earlier. The man was a legend. I understand his frustration over the years.
I wish the NBA did something like this. I'm a big sports-head, and I'd love to see a series like this for basketball, and even baseball.
Roger Staubach was my favorite player then, is my favorite player now and forever will be my favorite player (any sport) of all-time...
Good choice. You can't go wrong with 'Captain Comeback'. 👍
