I grew up in Dallas...I remember the first Super Bowl that I watched...SB V...I was 8 years old...I cried my eyes out...but a year later, I was filled with joy after SB VI...When I retired from the Air Force after 27 years in 2009, my commander asked me who had been my hero (he was looking for someone that inspired me for his speech)...I told him Roger Staubach...because he never gave up...(BTW, my commander was a Steelers fan)...But he included a great quote from Roger in his speech for me..."Confidence doesn't come out of nowhere. It's a result of something... hours and days and weeks and years of constant work and dedication" ...It was a perfect quote for my career...
Roger was my hero growing up too. My dad was a Steelers fan, but a 20 year Navy man. Catch 22 for him lol. His solution was, he cheered for the Cowboys against everyone but the Steelers lol.

The fact the the highlight film that dubbed the Cowboys “America’s Team” was highlighting a season in which the Cowboys didn’t even win the Super Bowl is one of the many reasons why I became a fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

Love this. I grew up in the UK, so grew up watching "soccer" and rugby. I am a nightclub manager and love how this justs sets out having the chutzpah to be "Americas Team" perfect blend of style and substance. I even call our hostesses the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders 🤠.

I grew up in the Casa View neighborhood in Dallas...Home to Texie Waterman's dance studio...my two younger sisters would go there for three years in that studio for Tap and Ballet lessons...from 1974 to 1976..I would always hang out in the studio to look out for my little sisters...near the end of each lesson, Texie (The older Texie, not her daughter) would give me a couple of dollars to buy some candy down at the Skillern's Drugstore, just a walk away...she was a very sweet lady...she and her daughter where the ones that taught choreography to the Cowboy Cheerleaders...no, I was never there when they trained...but I always wish I could have...

I became a Cowboy's fan in the early 70's because of Staubach. Aside from Jimmy's Super Bowl wins, Jerry has done his best to destroy the legacy that Tex and Landry built. This "America's Team" really only applies to the Landry era.

Over the years, at times (most of the time) it seemed to me that I was the ONLY person to be aware that "Ameerica's Team" came from an NFL season film. The Cowboys never made that claim. I saw that film when it debuted. I loved that moniker and loved that EVERYBODY else hated it. I was like, "Fukkoff (to the rest of) America, this is America's Team"(Whether you like it or not.) But it was all based on and around the amount of WINING that was going on for the better part of 2 -3 decades. I'll leave y'all with an even BETTER nickname. During that year of the first Super Bowl win under Jimmy Johnson, The Cowboys rolled into Los Angeles to play and beat the powerful L.A. Raiders. The L.A. Times columnist the next day, mockingly, called them "THE U.S. COWBOYS". I've been using it ever since, to piss off and incite the opposition. I hereby grant permissive use to all. Embrace "The U.S. Cowboys" when they roll into your town and help you party it down.

Back in the 60’s, the NFL blacked out local coverage unless the stadium was a sell out. Many Giants, Eagles and Redskins home games were not televised. Instead CBS would televise Dallas games. Besides this coverage, they also were in the same division as these three big markets along with Atlanta and St. Louis. It is because of their affiliation with the NFL East they became so popular.
Yes, Jim Brown was great, but he played against slow, smallish guys on defense back in the days where defenses hadn't evolved yet. Even Walter Payton played in an era where guys on defense were smaller and slower than Emmitt had to face. EMMITT SMITH is the GOAT thank you.

Even during the Patriots dynasty the Cowboys still had more media coverage and more nationally televised games. Their brand transcends the game of football. They’re more comparable to Nike or Apple than they are to the Patriots.
