    Barry Switzer becoming Head coach of the Dallas Cowboys was the ultimate example of a 'no win situtation"..he took alot of heat and like Randy Galloway said in this great documentary .."Barry was invited here"..Obviously as a Cowboys fan i am glad they won ,but im also glad Coach Switzer won.

    Unreal how people discredit Barry. Barry did it his way and won his way. He never tried to be Jimmy and I admire that as a man.
    San Fran was on another level in 1994 and I believe even if Jimmy was the coach then, the Cowboys still lose that 94 NFC Title Game. Barry did his job and handled the opportunity the right way.

    What a great ending and it was well-deserved. I have a story about Barry switcher while he was coaching the Cowboys. It was a client of mine that was living in a condo where Barry Switzer was living next-door while they were building his house remodeling, or whatever. Her mama was dying of cancer And her daughter put his book (bootleggers son) on his front door with a note saying, would you please sign this book? My mother has always loved you and it would bless her if you could do that! Well, Barry switcher went over to the house and spent the whole day with them and had dinner and everything. That’s the epitome of class just a good old country boy from Arkansas treating people with honor and respect.

    Great documentary! Barry deserved way more credit than he got for his positive contributions to the Dallas Cowboy organization! He was put in a no win situation when he got the call from Jerry Jones to fill Jimmy Johnsons shoes. Nonetheless I feel given the situation and his lack of experience in the NFL Barry was actually highly successful. In fact, in Barry's short tenure he has one of the best overall winning percentages of any NFL coach and the highest winning percentage of any Dallas Cowboy coach. Also one of only a few coaches to win a superbowl and a college championship (3). As a Dallas Cowboy fan who has endured an almost 25 year drought on a superbowl win, Barry is looking better all the time. Thanks Coach Switzer for your many contributions to the Dallas Cowboys.

    I'm 63 years old My First Cowboy game I watched was the 1967 Ice Bowl -25° I was 7 yrs old. By 1971 at 11 I was a Seasoned Cowboy Fan. I also learned how advanced & innovative they were compared to all other teams. From being 1st to use computers to pick Draft picks. A former RB Who was given the Starting Job as Head Coach Tom landry. The Architect, The Genius, The Soft Spoken Commander & Chief. Quietly building a Dynasty. 1971 SB5 1967 IceBowl. The greatest NFL Games ever 2B Played. These 2 games Shaped & Defined what the Dallas Cowboys were going to Be. The New World Leader in NFl Football. Cowboys lost these 2 Games. Both to the Current World Champions Green BayPackers under Lombardi, Baltimore Colts Under Shula. From 1961 to 1971 It was all of this that Tom Landry with designing Scrimmages from Scratch. From Rotating 4/5 RB's as Starters keeping legs fresh for 4 Qtr's. Behind an All Pro offensive Line the 2 Broke the Back of every Team they played. And Landry's Icing on the Cake just finding the Fastest man on Earth. And all he needed to do was teach him how to Catch a Football. Throw in a now seasoned & Mature Doomsday front 4 to add insult to Injury. 10 years to build a Bullet Proof Football team. 1972 SB6 Cowboys hold Miami to No 1st downs till the Fourth Quarter. Hold Miami to no Touchdowns in the Game. Cause the Longest sack in NFL History 30 yard lost. All 3 of those Feats are still Records today. They did them all in 1 game.....I'm saying all this for the Fan Cowboys who never have seen when Cowboys were bigger than Life itself. Today and really for the Last 30+ plus yrs Cowboys have been a shell of who they were. Today I can say without a doubt this is not Cowboy Football. It has not Been since 1988. SB92 & SB93 & SB96 were played from The Geniuses Architecture Tom Landry's Designed System of football. Not From former College Coaches Johson & Switzer. Greatness & Dynasty can be achieved again. But not with what's being displayed by anything in the NFL. The Formula is right a top this Much needed Reminder of What Cowboy Football is all about . If Dallas Jimmy Johnson & the Fans do not get back to COWBOYS Fundamentals I promise you this You will never see COWBOYS in the SuperBowl, You will Never See NFL Greatness you will never see A Cowboy Dynasty for as long as you Live. 1 last piece of History from the Man they just Called Coach landry last Game was in 1988. It Took Belichick 30 yrs to beat Landry's post season games played record and that with Tom Bradey as his QB and 9 SB's. No 1 will ever convince me that Tom Landry was the Greatest Coach of all Time... He would be Rolling in his Grave if he saw how the Cowboys are playing today. In Fact for the last 30+ Years. Do the Right thing and put the Landry System back in Force. For the Fans, for the Cowboys & For the NFL.

    The thing that ultimately brought the team down was free agency, but also lack of discipline. With Jimmy he knew what buttons to push and how to motivate and get the team excited, but also be the meanest SOB if you screwed up or were messing around. That's the thing Troy Aikman wanted so bad out of Barry was the discipline, but Barry never did. He even explained that you are not 18 to 23 years old kids in college that needed to be molded. You are adults and I don't need to be on you all the time. Sadly there were people like Michael Irvin or Leon Lett that needed that discipline and structure. By 1997 the discipline had all just gone away. The inmates were running the asylum and Dallas went 6-10

    I recently ran across this interesting factoid. The 3 best records ever for any NFL head coach through their first 3 seasons are... 1) George Seifert 49ers 1989-1991 38-10 in the regular season, 4-1 in the post-season, 2 NFC Championship Game appearances, and winner of Super Bowl 24. 2) Chuck Knox Rams 1973-1975 34-8 in the regular season, 2-3 in the post-season, and 2 NFC championship Game appearances 3) Barry Switzer Cowboys 1994-1996 34-14 in the regular season, 5-2 in the post-season, 2 NFC Championship Game appearances, and winner of Super Bowl 30.

  • @pjtheory
    @pjtheory 5 лет назад +12

    Food for thought. From 1991-1993, Jimmy Johnson's Cowboys were 36-12 in the regular season, 7-1 in the playoffs, and they won 2 Super Bowls. From 1994-1996, Barry Switzer's Cowboys were 34-14 in the regular season, 5-2 in the playoffs, and they won 1 Super Bowl. The only differences between the two resumes is that Switzer sat out most of his starters in losses in the last game of the 1994 and 1996 regular season. In terms of the playoffs, Switzer's 1994 Cowboys lost to a 49er team that was better than the 49er teams that Johnson's Cowboys defeated in 1992 and 1993. If one relies on the documented record, Barry Switzer did an outstanding job coaching the Dallas Cowboys.

      In the opinion of most NFL historians, the 1994 49ers were one of the top 3 teams in 49ers history. Some rank the 1994 49ers 3rd behind the 1989 and 1984 49er squads, while others rank them 2nd behind the 1989 49ers. In terms of the 1994 NFC Championship Game, the 49ers were playing at home, they had beaten the Cowboys in the regular season, and they were listed as 7 point favorites to represent the NFC in Super Bowl 29. The perception that the Cowboys were considered the better team is classic revisionist history.

    I met barry several times when he was coaching at OU and when he was the cowboys coach. A humble , charming man , with an infectious smile . He is down to earth and likes to self depreciate . He was put in a difficult situation when he was thrust into the cowboys job . He said some goofy things and probably did not have the chance to pick players or coaches , as Jerry was now in full hands on mode . But I am sure the cowboys players fought hard to win for him that last super bowl . Because they knew he genuinely loved them and treated them like men . He is not at Jimmy’s Xand O coaching and brutality with players and discipline etc etc . That is just not barry . But hey , sometimes positive coaching does win when players feel they are loved and respected.

      True. Yes people can hate on Barry, but they should understand the man was just thrown into that role. It was a lose/lose situation because if he won, then he won with Jimmy’s team, but if he couldn’t win, then he’d be known as a sucky coach. Doesn’t help that this was also the point where Jerry really took more control and couldn’t draft for shit to help supplement the Triplets and replace the players that left (aside from Larry Allen). One thing i wished though, was that Jerry maybe could’ve got Parcells in Dallas a lot sooner when Aikman was still qb

    The 1995 roster of the Dallas Cowboys contained 26 players that had never played a down for Jimmy Johnson. This included Hall of Fame players such as Deion Sanders and Larry Allen. In addition, several players that either underperformed or were in Johnson's doghouse, thrived in the Switzer regime. This included Robert Jones, Chad Hennings, and Charles Haley. For example, Haley had 10 sacks in his two years under Johnson whereas in his two years under Switzer, Haley had 23 sacks. The 1995 Cowboys were not as deep as the 1992 and 1993 Cowboys, but from Week 1 to Thanksgiving of that year, they may have fielded the best starting 22 in NFL history.

      The 1994 Cowboys were not favored to represent the NFC in Super Bowl 29. The 49ers were 7 point favorites in the NFC Championship Game. Jones, Switzer, and several players from the 1994 team are simply partaking in revisionist history. The facts are that the 49ers defeated the Cowboys in Week 11 of the 1994 regular season, the Cowboys were riddled with injuries entering the NFC Championship Game, and they had to play a healthy 49ers squad on the road. IMO, the Cowboys went as far as they could in 1994.

    Been a Dallas fan all of my life. Along with other fans, I took losses personally. At age 9, 10 and 11, I saw my boys lose 3 straight NFC championships. Was fueled with hatred that JJ fired Landry the way he did and brought in another JJ. 1992, I was grateful that the superbowl drought was over. In many ways, I was happy to have Barry as the coach but HATED the way he was perceived. No blame should have come his way in the NFC championship of 1994. Aikman, who I did like, threw those interceptions, not Barry. He often threw shade at Barry which I did not agree with. I am glad Barry walked away a champion. Like my favorite QB, Danny White, Barry will not get the immense credit he deserves.
