To help with the frizz, I wrap the loose hair around the lock and then I take a small crochet needle. The brand I use is the tulip brand .35mm crochet needle. I basically stitch the frizz back into the lock.
JScott that’s what the professional do
I've seen a couple videos of people doing it but I've never thought to try it. Thanks for the info
This is helpful. Thanks.
Legit just did this with a 1 mm crochet needle. I couldn't find a .35mm. It works!! Thank you!!
You'll see how much it has grown when you retighten them. They look really great and don't look frizzy at all!
The frizz decided to play hide and seek when I was filming but I'm telling you it's there lol. And thank you 😊
So beautiful! Your videos helped me start my journey 💕💕💕
Aww Thank you!! I'm so happy to hear that. And your locs are gorgeous
Hello Katya, what you're seeing is called bunching. It will normally occur in the beginning stages when the locks are forming. Bunching is caught and corrected during a retightening session. Although it's not a "secret society", certified consultants are taught to identify and correct bunching in the early stages. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the update. Your hair looks amazing. Check out ‘Let’s Journey ‘ as she just did a Q&A with her loctition, and she gave advice about conditioning micro locks. I didn’t really start to experience growth until after my 3rd yr mark. Now it’s growing like a weed. Already your hair thickness and growth is noticeable, I am certain you will start experiencing rapid hair growth in the up and coming year.
I will definitely check her video out. Maybe it's just me that's not noticing the growth. I can't wait to get to where you are lol
I've been loc'd 5 years and I can tell you frizz will never completely go away. It will lessen as your locs mature, but it will always exist.
Regarding conditioner, it's best to do what you know your hair responds to well. If conditioner has alleviated dryness in the past, then it will work on your locs. What you should be mindful of when using conditioner on locs is to make sure it's water soluble. Also, it's not necessary to coat your locs with conditioner to receive desirable results. I hope this helps and good luck.
That is good to know. Thank you for the tips
Oh! I thought I was the only one who got the post retie headache and itching 3-7 days later. Come to find that it's a thing. We really need to tell each other these things so we know what to expect (at least newbies like me). TFS and congratulations on your career progress!!
Try rose water for dryness. It adds moisture and natural shine. It’s a guarantee of no buildup.
I've had other people tell me that. Hopefully I'll get my hands on it soon. Thank you
Hey I’m in the same boat with my DIY micro locks!!
I’ve always had an issue with dry hair/scalp until I started using Aloe Vera!! I get a fresh piece of aloe Vera from the grocery store and scrape all the gel out, blend(blend well) it and use it as a pre poo, conditioner, or with oil!! It really works wonders on my dry scalp! You can leave on out rinse it out!
I have been waiting on your update for sooooo long!! They look amazing
I thought that the frizz would need to be left alone so that it would eventually form into a mature lock. If you keep grabbing the strands and wrapping them around, maybe they can’t incorporate themselves into the lock. Hope that makes sense. Great videos!
Exactly! She's creating the frizz! Leave Your hands out of Your hair My Sisterlocks consultant says!
I used to leave it but it didn't do anything so I decided to tackle it but I totally understand what you're saying.
💗 Who loves frizz? 💗 Your locs are beautiful!! I haven't established my locs yet but I love the look of frizz. Establishing in a month, can't wait to share my journey also! Thank you for sharing your ups and downs.
@Farah I love the frizz too lol. It adds to the volume and I don't really notice it because I don't try to wear a slick ponytail or anything like that.
@@mishaytv Yasss volume! 🙌🏾
Haha I can't relate. Hope all goes well with your establishment. Enjoy the journey
I’ve got thin microlocks too. Now I am at a month and two days and I am already thinking about combining them after the first retight 😆 I really can’t accept spending a day on my hair again! And you are beautiful !
Haha I can't blame you sis. My butt, neck, and arms be hurting after sitting for a couple of hours lol
Hey! I trust you're good and married life is treating you well. Would love to see how your locs are looking now. I remember watching your how to video before installing my daughter's microlocs almost 5 years ago. Take good care.
Embrace the frizz. Your hair is still in the locing process. I’m also 2yrs in and the frizz is real but as I’ve been seeing our hair at 2yrs may not be completely finished locing yet. Your hair looks amazing.. 💯
I'm trying 😩I agree with you because my hair is still doing things that make me think it's still got a long ways to go
Your hair looks great even with the issues you’ve mentioned. I’d love an update on the locks you installed on your Mom.
Thank you so much. I'm hoping to get her in a video in the near future
Hope you're still on your loc journey, if u are I'd say listen to your hair! I 've been loc'd over 2yrs now and don't typically condition my locs but when I bleached, I conditioned for about 2months after to help recover from damage and maybe will do so once a year for a moisture boost. Water down the conditioner to help with rinsing out and avoiding build up. Most importantly DRINK WATER and embrace the frizz queen! 👸🏾🙏🏾💚
Your hair is absolutely gorgeous...I'm more tempted than ever to loc it up!
Five years ago I said I was going to get these and I didn't and I really really wish I had of. These are absolutely beautiful and I wish I knew someone to do mine. Idk if I'd have the patience to do them myself. You have all my respect for the time you invested with your mom and your hair. You have a new follower look forward to next update.
Aww thank you so much. Glad you are sticking around
I’ve gone six months without retightening, more than once. Just make sure to keep your locs separated. Just use some mousse to lay down the fuzz. I wrap the loose hair around my loc, and then use a needle and to to pull the end through my locs. It helps keep them held in. The frizz partly comes from pulling your hair through when you retighten. They are just gonna be a fact of your life.
Oonagh72 great advice. I self installed my micro locs and I was going crazy about the frizz but it’s a part of locs
I never even thought about retightening being a cause of the frizz. That's interesting. What kind of mousse do you use?
Katya Sandrine i just use some trèsseme mousse , and some John Frieda Frizz Ease. Just what ever was cheap and at the store.
life Give up for the self installing girls!!! Woot woot!
@@Oonagh72 Good to know. Thanks
I have had Sisterlocks off and on since 2007. During that time, I have learned so much about my hair. Depending on your hair texture it can take your hair about three years to settle in and condensed. Then you may have less frizz. My new set of Sisterlocks are over 19 months old. Because of my loose texture and grays, it very frizzy. My hair always come out of my locs. I was loced with a reverse 4 and retightened with a 3pt. I had over 500 locs. It look me days to reti. I have combined all my locs. Now it takes me hrs. I always use a clarifying shampoo, then I use a moisturizing shampoo. If you use a cream conditioner, dilute!!! I use Jane Carter leave in conditioner. Conditioners when not diluted enough will attract lint. Oil will not moisturize your hair. It will lock the moisture in it. Try placing oil on your hair while it’s is wet, place a cap on your hair and get under the dryer to lock in moisture. If your hair feels dry and crunchy, it needs moisture or it will shred and break.
Please re-tie at least every 6-8 weeks. For consistency in your locs!
They are beautiful! If you want them to look good, pamper them! Locs are high maintenance unlike what people want to believe!
You, ma'am, are a wealth of knowledge. Thanks for all the tidbits. I am so terrible at pampering my hair. I definitely need to do better!
Katya Sandrine I’am too these days! As a nurse, I feel I never have time. My locs were suffering. I have to do more me pampering! Thanks for posting!
You are my hair goals!! You are beautiful sis!!
Your hair has most definitely matured since your last update. Its much thicker and has grown....sometimes its not about length its the healthiness...growth will come.💕💕💕
Thanks for the update, it's gotten thicker, your hair is amazing. Glad you completed school, congratulations 💐
Aww. Thanks a bunch!!
I conditioned my first set of locs for 2 years. Cut them, and had absolutely no build up inside. The key is to dilute, dilute, dilute! Put the conditioner in a spray bottle and add water until it's milky water. This way, it'll rinse out easily. Make sure you clarify too, it makes sure that you don't have surface build up from hard water, oil, products blocking and moisture you're adding. I really like the neutrogena anti residue shampoo!
I don't have advice for frizz because that's my issue too... :( your hair is beautiful though! Glad you popped on for an update!
I'm definitely gonna start conditioning. Man I feel like I've been missing out. Thanks for the info
Great advice. Ty
I'm 2 years in and the following is what keeps my hair soft and manageable. Dilute the shampoo and conditioner with aloe Vera gel(I have plants outside) and a little veggie glycerine. That way you're not rinsing for 45 minutes each time. I moisturize 2x weekly with a mix of aloe Vera gel, rose water and oil of choice. That's as much as I care to do outside retightenings. Only thing is my hair doesn't stretch but, oh well.
I also have micro locs also, about 330. I am combining some of mine too. This is my second set of locs. My first set I had for 5 years and it wasn’t until about year 4 that I noticed my locs weren’t really frizzy at all. Just embrace the fizz. It will work itself out.
I was freaking out about going for sisterlocs. I love them but I kept hearing about my hair breaking. But I loved going through your hair journey. It’s encouraged me. Thank you!
Hey lady it’s been a long while happy to see you face and that hair 😍😍😍🥰
Thank you. Glad you stuck around lol
I also experienced dry hair while a loose natural. I condition my locs along with a hot oil treatment using Designer Essentials Rosemary and Mint conditioner and Doo Gro Anti Itch Oil. I leave it for 45 minutes and then rinse it out. Leaves my hair super moisturized!
Use the instantlock method with the small crochet needle that will help with the freeze
You can condition your hair but don’t use something heavy. Avalon organics makes an apple cider vinegar shampoo and conditioner that are great for locs. Since you are enjoying your shampoo, try the conditioner. It helps with dryness and rinses out pretty easily
Love your videos... can we get an update on your mom’s sister locs ? Thanks
Just leave the frizz it doesn’t look bad 🙃 so the shampoo that use is it a cream or clear color?!? Really interested in seeing how you combine them!!! I heard the no condition scared and I’ve also heard that every quarter of the year it’s okay. So moderation is key and using water based conditioners. I think your locs look great 🙌🏽 I can’t wait for mines to mature and thicken up.
The shampoo is clear but a bit thick so I water it down a bunch. I've also had some people say condition is okay to use if it's being diluted so it rinses out easier. Thank you for the compliment. And don't worry you'll get there before you know it 😊
Wooooah, that's four months without retightening? It looks SO GOOD.
Thanks for your update, and honesty, I’m glad I’m sticking to my traditional locs....less time to maintain it..
Ahhh I remember the frizz. I took mine out but what helped me was retightening when my hair was damp and using a little bit of aloe gel at the root. It help keeps the new growth in the actual loc so less loose hairs and frizz
What made you take them out?
If you are using conditioners on your hair too much it will soften your hair and cost the frizz. Probably try only using conditioning your hair once or twice a year in the cold season. I would alternate with using a clarifying shampoo. Just like traditional locks you don't need a lot of moisture to have beautiful strong locks. If you scalp feels dry just use a light oil on your scalp not on the locks
This is some of the tips used on SL. Good luck Queen
I hope you're doing well. 💖
They are BEAUTIFUL 🤩
I’ve always deep condition my locs it helps with moisture and frizz I also use aloe Vera juice helps with moisture and scalp issues
Hola. CONGRATULATIONS on your 2yr anniversary. Your hair has come a long way. You're someone I've been following before I began my journey 😁😁. I noticed my hair is extremely dry throughout the fall/ winter. I put a small amount of essential oils in my water bottle during this time. Otherwise I spray w/ water everyday. I hope you find some resolutions (a lot of good advice in the comments). I hope you don't combine them ☹☹. Try and hang in there. But do what works best for you~
Thank you so much. And yes I'm trynna hang in here 😩
Your locs are beautiful. Have you considered going to a professional for loc maintenance?
Thank you. To be honest I haven't put too much thought into it but I'm not against it
I am tender headed as well. I used different tools and the one that doesn’t hurt when I retie is the “easy loc tool.” Its resin plastic so it doesn’t hurt and my retie goes fast.
I appreciate you sharing that with me. I'll definitely look into it
Your locs are very beautiful!
Aww thank you
Very neatly done !!!!
I don't think you should try to fight the frizz. I think when you wrap the hair, it stretches, and when you wash or moisturize, it shrinks again out of that position. If you just didn't stretch the hair, I think eventually it would join the loc. Doing a braidout can really make it look less frizzy in the meantime.
Please do a retightening video !!!
I will add it to the list
Love love love your locs!!! Have ever counted how many you have?
I did count them when they were first installed but I don't remember the number. I think it was more than 450
If you're still having frizz, now is not the time to use conditioners. Deep conditioners are for people with mature locs. If you condition now, you'll keep the hair frizzy for even longer.
@2:31 Do you think that gap could be from the last time you went 4 months without retightening and you were still kind of knew to locking.. could that be it? 🤔 what do you think
Use natural henna eg NUPUR henna. It really strenghthens the hair.
I decided to use 2 parts conditioner to 6 parts water. That way it rinses out better and my locs get the benefit of more moisture and less frizz. Don't be afraid to detoxify once or twice a year either if you're still concerned about build up.
Thanks for the info. I plan on detoxifying in the near future
I would only deep condition the ends. I say this because when I had my sisterlocs, I feel like the conditioner caused buildup and overtime it took on the appearance of lent. Ultimately, this is one of the biggest reasons I chopped them off after 7yrs .
It’s a year time to update! ❤️
How long does it take to refresh your locs? They’re absolutely beautiful!!
I’ve seen someone with Sisterlocks use McQueen cholesterol conditioner in their locs . I’m thinking about using that as well in mine especially for the winter months. Also try increase your water intake.I noticed a big difference with my hair since I started doing so. Make sure you have satin pillow cases. Braiding or twisting your hair before bed and covering your hair should help. Overall frizz is apart of the loc process.
Lastly I heard that shrinkage is more pronounced in the teenage phase which last awhile and you will start seeing more length in year 4 or 5 . Because the locs really start to drop around that time. You locs are gorgeous. Congratulations on finishing Nursing school 🤙🏾🎉
Aww thank you. And I appreciate all the wonderful info. Every is telling me to basically accept the frizz 😩
Your locs are lovely! I remember when you first did them, and your mother too! How's your mom's locs coming along? Bet they are beautiful too!
Aww thank you. Hers are coming along as well. Hopefully I can get her in a video here soon
@@katyasandrine4949 thanks for the response! This auto-correct sucks! Won't let me correct "old, or love" for locs-go figure! Glad you understood!
What happened? Did you combine locs? Frizz is a part of some people’s locs. Apparently it does lessen but they are a part of interlocs some get it more than others but I wrap loose hairs around locs it helps keep them in place. Hope your well can we have an update please 😊🇬🇧🙏🏾
I LOVE this style!
You and me both. Thank you!
Girl... where u been? Good to have you back
Been trying to finish school. I finally caught a break
You are GORGEOUS.
Hi Karta, I love your locs I am 1 year and 2 month in. A big thank you because I started my locs from your video. Is there a conditioner that you can recommend? Thanks!
You will not have build up if u condition your locs. U don't have to drench your locs in conditioner. I use design essentials rosemary & mint conditioner. It is not too thick I place a dollop in my hand rub it together and rub it through my scalp and locs, if I feel it needs a little more I repeat by adding another dollop I do not have any build up.
Time for another update😉
Your hair is beautiful
Where are you located? I am considering microlocks. What's the difference between those and sisterlocks?
Did you try conditioner? Can you update us on if you did what were the results?
Nice and Full.
Congrads.. 🧡
Thank you!!
Any new updates with your locs ?
Where do you live girl? I would love for you to do my hair!!
Do you have an update of your mom’s hair?
Have you hot oiled and or use molasses for the frizz and sheen?
Gorgeous ❤️
Thank you for the update. Your locs are gorgeous.
Wish we could see your locs now
I started doing more braid out with moose that helped with my frizziness
I've been getting more and more into braid outs. i was rocking an old one in this video but I've never tried it with moose. What moose do you use?
@@katyasandrine4949 Herbal Essences Body Envy Volumizing Max Hold. It works so much better than just water...I held a braid out for 3 weeks...heck I forgot I shampoo my hair every 2 weeks...LOL😂🤣
@@25shala Haha. I'll have to keep an eye out for it. Thanks
Where did you go to? ❤
how do you maintain going that long without retightening such small Locs? I want to stretch mines out for 3 months but the back is too small that I feel like I can't go past a month or the hair starts thinning
I didn't do anything different from my normal routine. And I honestly don't know how I didn't experience thinning either. I just left my hair alone
How short was your hair befor it got that long .
I heard you can condition locs of you water the conditioner down
That's a good tip. Thanks for sharing
New Subie here you talked about a chart to help determine what lock pattern to use for your hair texture, when you locked your mums hair, where can I get that plz Google hasnt herb forthvoming
