I love sauerkraut, I've eaten it since childhood! My favourite combinations are 1. with baked/fried fish 2. with pan fried chicken liver and 3. with a ham sandwich EDIT: I forgot that it also goes amazingly well with sausages and hot dogs :)
I've been a 'holistic' guy for decades, and I love, love, love sauerkraut. Your suggestions are really good on various ways to use sauerkraut. I already do some of those ideas, but you also came up with some tips that I'll definitely keep in mind. Thanks a lot.
I eat fermented sauerkraut in my tuna salad with MCT oil, or with beef, Salman, or egg's over easy with a beef patty, or in a vegetable and chicken stock soup...I rarely eat carbs.
I put sauerkraut on top of my roasted veggie and potatoes, takes them up another notch. I also love sauerkraut in all my beans, chorizo, with hard boiled eggs, pickle my eggs in the brine, add to scrambled eggs, and put in my smoothies.
I love sauerkraut, I put it on everything. My son has decided he doesn’t like it so I’m now a stealthy mom and I’ll put spoonfuls of sauerkraut juice over his food after it’s dished and cooling. He always rants about how good food is. Lol. My husband loves my homemade kimchi the same way. I find I need to just consciously make a big jar of sauerkraut the first week of every month or I run out. Thanks for sharing. ☮️❤️☕️

Hi from the UK, I've just had two jars of organic natural raw sauerkraut delivered because I know it good for the stomach (gut) and I now lnow what to eat it with, thanks.
I make a Chinese Restaurant style Hot and Sour Soup, using kraut and it's juice as the sour ingredient. Just make sure to add it at the very end. Never let it boil once you add it. In fact, take it off heat several minutes before adding it. Otherwise, it seems to lose acidity. As well as a certain "nuance". Which l can't really put my finger on. If it gets too hot it becomes more salty/sweet than sour/savory.
I like it in my ramen- so good. Agree 100% on soup... just have to make sure you are not boiling it with the soup. Hubby hates cabbage of all stages so I do sneak it in and when he does not know, he loves it!
Great info! I just started eating it about a week ago. I didn't know how much to eat so I have about 100grams first thing in the morning, before anything. I have to say that I feel more regular just after a week. I've tried adding himalaya salt - pepper, siracha, cooked spam (nice), chili sauce, tomato sauce, soy sauce, aioli.. It still tastes horrendous.
Oh my goodness great ideas! I am making saurkraut right now and your 3 year old video is timely to say the LEAST!! ❤🙏 Thank you so much for all your ideas 😊
Is there a particular reason that people typically use sauerkraut with meats? Is it a matter of taste or for some special digestion chemistry of the combination?
I know cooking sauerkraut kills the probiotics but I'm a bit confused. Does eating it alongside cooked food also kill the probiotics? I also know vinegar kills it. Does that mean I can't eat apple cider vinegar and balsamic vinegar with the same meal?
I just started eating this stuff and i think it Helps my crohns disease, its really not nice though, i have a sweet tooth, im going to stick with it, i think the coleslaw idea might work
I watched this while eating sauerkraut on some spicy sausages I had just made. I felt like a really idiot when 30 seconds in you said cooking it will kill the probiotics lol. Thanks for the videoZ
Everyday I mix and eat two heaping tablespoons of raw sauerkraut with garlic, one tablespoon of fermented shredded beets, and a tablespoon of diced white onions.
i eat sauerkrat a little but i can only handle a couple of bites it is so sour but i now add a little sugar sub to it to calm down the sour part a little and that helped a lot
I love my sauerkraut, but after a few days of eating it, my teeth start to feel like there’s cavities in them. It goes away when I stop eating it for a few days. Not sure what to do about it. Thanks for your video though 😄
It causes gas and bloating if you're not used to it, because of bacteria, so I think yes, you should expect that. But it also helps your gut repopulate with friendly lacto bacteria and if you take it slowly and start with a really small amount, like a teaspoon daily and increase it slowly, it won't cause any issues.
I'm just making sauerkraut for the very first time so this was good timing!😄 I bloat and get asthma after eating starchy foods, do you know if eating sauerkraut might help? How much? With every meal? Just the juice from the kraut if it's less harsh on the gut? Thanks!😊
Sauerkraut definitely helps with restoring the healthy balance of gut bacteria! If you're new to it, you'll want to work up the amount gradually, but you can eat it with every meal. If you struggle with diarrhea, you can do just the juice. :)
It's so individual, so it's impossible for me to say! Only your body can tell you what is the right amount for you right now :) We usually eat around a TBSP or two per meal, but sometimes we feel like more or less.
Can anyone explain what to do, when you run out of liquid? Do I add salty water and leave jar outside for few weeks again to ferment? In that way it would be good if I had 2 jars - on to use and the other to ferment, right?
I usually add a little more salt and some more water as needed, and let it sit out for a few days. If you're using mostly liquid, you can make a probiotic cabbage tonic instead. I will do a video on how to do this soon, and there are directions in Dr. Becky Plotner's book. Hope that helps!
Some of the probiotics are destroyed if you heat it, but it's still beneficial and tasty :) There are times when I will use it in a warm/hot dish, but I mostly eat it raw.
I love sauerkraut! The reason I'm watching this video is, I'm literally sitting here eating it straight out of the can for lunch. Lol Figured I'd watch a vid to make sure, before reaching the point of no return, that l wasn't gonna regret it if l eat the whole can!
All my life I ate sauerkraut out of a can or bottle. I am now approaching 80 and no longer eat store bought kraut. I have been making my own and love it. Before I made it, I probably ate it 5 or 6 times a year. Now I eat it almost every day. I may soon have to join Sauerkraut Anonymous. Reading about the benefits added to a taste I’d come to love. Compared to taking a probiotic tablet it makes no sense. Fermented foods are gut gold. We are having a Family Fellowship at church soon and am planning on bringing Meatballs and Sauerkraut. Yummy!

I totally love it with fresh cottage cheese or sour cream! But I will have to wait a bit to introduce the dairy products ;)
I love it with kielbasa. Also its good with country style ribs and potatoes yummm! Oh and of course a hot dog with Dijon mustard.
I second the idea of kraut on hot dogs!!
i need it on a hot dog or chicken sausage link right now.. omg so good

Can sauerkraut be added in soups...
I hot some in a jar from Aldi, is that any good?
So you need to buy jared sauerkraut that hasn't been pasturized for it to be "live and probiotic"?
I like my saurkraut with, basically any kind of sausage, no buns, keto style, mustard, and to drink, kefir.

I bought saurkraut from the store. Came in a can. Is it still effective or no? I would really appreciate a response. Thank you :)
I'm happy to help! Canned sauerkraut doesn't have the live probiotic bacteria in it, so it doesn't really help with friendly bacteria.

Does heating sauerkraut effects the benefits?
Yes, heat will kill the probiotics.
Do you think this is as good as having vinegar on your veg
It's different, but I find that both vinegar and sauerkraut help to stimulate stomach acid production :)

It causes gas and bloating if you're not used to it, because of bacteria, so I think yes, you should expect that.
