@@northernbrother1258agreed it was bad. But I only consider seasons 19 and 20 the real Bad Boys era and it was unwatchable. Season 18 was still very good. 92-93 so of course that was an election year and we got Hartman Clinton
Phil Hartman deserves his record. I hope it is never broken. The man never got the flashy career of some of the other alums - but he was the unbreakable backbone for so many seasons. He always delivered. Kenan Thompson is the closest comparison.
This was by far one of the best seasons of SNL, and I was only 8 years old watching these classics. Almost every cast member on this roster are currently megastars and comedy gold.
I was 15 years old during this season. I can remember going to Sunday school and my youth leader would spend half the time talking about the previous nights SNL.
This was my first season of SNL. The next year when I was in fifth grade, I was inspired to do a sketch for my school talent show. It was a commercial for “Air Arnold’s” based on Hanz and Franz and Air Jordan’s. I killed it with that elementary school crowd, lol.
I am loving these recaps. I was a teenager when the show premiered but spent most of my life in the UK/Europe since the ‘80s. Fitting the history of the show into world events, etc is like a delightful jigsaw puzzle of pop culture. It’s a blast!
Some incredible talent this season with absolutely classic roles. Phil Hartman, you’ll never be forgotten and always be celebrated as the comic genius you proved yourself to be!
Jan is my pick for best cast member. She’d be my first draft all star pick. I also lean more toward Dennis than Norm in that fictional cast. The two of them leaving is my cut off/end of one of my favorite eras (along with 2005-2012).
7:38 man I remember back in the 90s it felt like John Goodman was hosting SNL every other month. I just remember watching so many episodes with him in those days
I love the "Need to Know" segments. I am glad that we got the debuts of the Chrises (Farley and Rock)! Wished we got to see more of Susan Lucci hosting. Dana Carvey is a master of playing Regis! I cannot believe that we got the iconic Chippendales sketch as well.
These are so well done, I feel like they should get more views. I can't believe the 16th season was the intro to the classic cast, I would have guessed season 25-30.
The writing was amazing during these years. Virtually every sketch nailed the bullseye. An incredible run. Jan Hooks was so great. Hilarious in everything she was in. Loved Tim Meadows. Always thought he should've been given more to do.
(UPDATE: Apparently this happened in S14, 2 years earlier) Important to note that the Dec 8th episode is where Paul Simon first met Edie Brickell - they would soon start dating, and they've been married (and sometimes creative collaborators) to this day.
Interesting Fact: When SNL Producers were considering Julia Sweeney to join the show, it was a choice between her and Lisa Kudrow. Just a few years later, Kudrow joined the cast of "Friends", which premiered during Season 20 of SNL. "Friends" was an instant hit TV show, and SNL had one of its worst seasons, so it all worked out for Kudrow.
This was my first year of university so I have many great memories of this season - staying up late watching in the common area of my dorm with my friends.
This was one of the show's best seasons and to me, the Patrick Swayze, George Steinbrenner and the Michael J. Fox episodes were the best, with the Child Actors on Drugs sketch being the funniest.
Dennis Quaid? Oh right. His brother Randy was on SNL during its eleventh season. That’s the guy who impersonated Reagan, and now Reagan got impersonated by Dennis on that biopic.
almost every skit was a HR, and every cast member a SuperStar, and every guest highlights their talents and funny reputations. Prob one of the BEST seasons ever. (PAY ATTENTION 2024 CAST -- THIS IS WHAT FUNNY LOOKS LIKE)
I think this was the season where Alec Baldwin played a doctor who couldn't read in a Soap Opera Digest sketch. That's always been one of my favorite sketches ever.
Due to the quality of SNL in the late 80's - early nineties, I scrounged and bought my own VCR so I could tape both SNL on my parents TV and Headbangers Ball on MTV on mine, and I'd watch them on Sunday, since I would be hanging out with friends doing typical 19-21 year old stuff on Saturday night.
Chris and Victoiria as Tom & Roseanne was great. She nailed Roseanne. Its funny that Spade got the receptionist idea from not being able to talk to Patrick Swayze.
Chris ended up friends with both of them...he appeared on Roseanne, The Jackie Thomas Show, and Tom's HBO special and stayed with them while filming them. They also went to a fat farm together (where they were caught cheating on their diets) and Tom was Chris's AA sponsor.
The generational talent (from featured players, top billed cast members, and behind the scenes writers) that came out of these early 90s seasons is insane.
Definitely 'my era' of SNL. My parents had been fans of the show from the beginning and up until Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo's departure so this was definitely the season where it felt like the show had become more 'my show' than 'their show', although my mom was a big Mike Myers and Dana Carvey fan so we watched regularly together.
The beginning of the Bad Boys era. This was when I got into Saturday Night Live.
The Bad Boys era was awful.
@@northernbrother1258agreed it was bad. But I only consider seasons 19 and 20 the real Bad Boys era and it was unwatchable.

Same - my favorites years of SNL are beginning here.
here, here -- jolly good comment, my boy.
same!

He was the glue
Phil Hartman, Darrell Hammond, Tim Meadows ,Vanessa Bayer and Kenan Thompson all are glue cast members imo
100% agreed.
This was by far one of the best seasons of SNL, and I was only 8 years old watching these classics. Almost every cast member on this roster are currently megastars and comedy gold.

JANNNNN. I’m glad she’s getting recognition now…a shame she is not around to enjoy it, although she was wary of recognition.
Greatest tour guide of The Alamo
Seeing her in all these old sketches - man she was good! Love her.
She was simply amazing. One of the 5 best cast members ever.
This was my first season of SNL. The next year when I was in fifth grade, I was inspired to do a sketch for my school talent show. It was a commercial for “Air Arnold’s” based on Hanz and Franz and Air Jordan’s. I killed it with that elementary school crowd, lol.
Next season is my first...freshman year of high school.
@@williamshaw9047 Peace from Sydney. Season 17 was my first season. I was 3 years into high school. We call it Year 9. lol.
Thank God we have new SNL recaps at least, I’ve really enjoyed this entire series
Musicians For Free-Range Chickens is one of THE best SNL musical sketches ever IMHO.
“Fire Bad!” Was a great one too
I have to agree. It's a shame it was part of the Steven Seagal episode.
@@angryshoebox Michael Bolton (as annoying as his singing is) saved that episode from being the worst 90 minutes in television history
This is one of MY CASTS! So many great memories.
This was a love letter to my childhood . . . and to 'SNL' in general.
Love the show. Love these memories.
The Sinatra Group is on the Mt. Rushmore or SNL skits.

So glad you guys were back. I thought you got cancelled or bored.
Thank you for coming back. Missed it

That was when SNL got huge with a large cast, and the Emmys won.
You guys are awesome! I look forward to these!
Season 17 was my intro to SNL but all my favorite sketches debuted in season 16.
Glad these are getting longer!! Keep em coming

Mr. Short Term Memory - Best Tom Hanks character ever

Seeing these bring backa ton of memories. I remember watching these sesons when I was a kid
You guys hit it correctly when praising Jan Hooks. I'd even say she was the funniest female cast member ever.
Close - I gotta go with Kristin Wiig
She had my vote
Possibly true! Jan, Ana Gasteyer, and Maya Rudolph are my favorites.
Mary Gross, Cheri Oteri, Amy Poehler, and Cecily Strong are right behind them
Chris Kattan having an official Best Of collection, but Jan Hooks not having one, is a travesty.
Nope. Gilda Radner FTW.
An absolutely classic season. I still have most of it on VHS.
This was when I was allowed to occasionally stay up later and getting to watch snl was about the coolest thing
Love these. Already looking forward to the next episode.

This is truly my era of SNL❤
Farley brought such immediate joy in his first sketch, that Twin Peaks parody. If I could live in that era of SNL forever I would.
What a cast! what a season! My mom and I love Pat, and the Richmeister copy guy. We still quote him to this day.
