Leave to Bill Murray to turn an awkward situation into something funny and gracious. He´s the man.
Met Bill at the DGA-W 57th - an internship I was then doing for Nancy Littlefield. -unbelievable kindness towards me. Bought me up to his office, intro'd me around - etc. Me I was so intimidated I could barely speak - it wasn't planned - just kind of organically happened. .
Aykroyd was and ALWAYS be the king of SNL. He cherishes the time he spent on that show and truly understands what that show and that comedy has meant to the world. There are plenty of people out there who became huge who kinda shrug off where they got their start, like Eddie Murphy for example.
Garrett Morris is comedy genius in this, he had me in stitches! He's still got it at 80 years old! He was always great in the original series like he is here, great edgy comedy.
What had me smirking is that you could tell that he didn't tell the others he was going to do that skit.....look at Akroyds face right behind him....he was really wondering where he was going with that....until he got to the punch line.
I remember when Chevy left after Caddy shack because he thought he was going to be this big time movie star. Then he made a few flops. Then finally the Vacation movies. But now he is by far the biggest flop of the cast. Because he still thought of himself as Chevy Chase. When now he's just chevy chase.
Though not a cast member, I can’t help but thinking of Steve Martin during that era of SNL. Before Borat there were the Czechoslovakian Studs: we are two wild and crazy guys.
Martin was a uniquely gifted talent. A hero of comedy back when I was in high school... it's hard to believe he's pushing 80 now. There were other 'funny guys', and all of them good. But Martin was different. He was the first comic that I can remember filling Huge auditoriums, like a rock star. He wasn't mocking politicians, or saying "My wife's cooking is so bad... " he was Fresh.. Original.. and damn funny, without being graphic. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, but some use it as a crutch.) If there's a Mt. Rushmore of comedy.. he ought to be on it.
The racial humor with Garrett in the original cast was classic. He was willing to do some really edgy stuff that could never be done today. The prison auditions and the interview with Julian Bond come to mind.
I've always considered Bill Murray a part of the original cast, even though he wasn't. I'm glad they let him stand at the mic as well. He certainly made his mark in SNL history. I love the heck out of Bill Murray's twitter zingers! The man is non-stop wit! I consider him a guru of sorts.
He also had an illustrious movie career. He did “meatballs “ and a whole bunch of other hilarious movies. He also was good in serious sort of roles. “ Groundhog Day” is a classic movie.
He auditioned with that cast and worked with almost all of them before the show started. He missed the first year and then was around for the next four with all but Chevy. I consider him an original cast member, too. I think most everybody does.
SNL has brought so much joy to my life and continues to bring joy to my life. I'm greatful to you all. I was six yrs old in 1975 and watched it with my big brother Mike. I continue to watch to this day. Thank you so much.

Love Aykroyd and Murray, they seem like real genuine nice people, love their work on SNL and through their movies. Ghost Busters, Trading Places, the Great Outdoors, etc

Oct 11, 1975. I had turned 16 the week before and SNL became the touchstone for my young generation. I could write pages about what these cast members and the show meant to us over the years, but I will simply say Bravo! Or as General Francisco Franco might say, "Bravissimo!" (from beyond).
Couldn't agree more! Absolutely love and loved Dana! He, in my opinion, was so much more talented that Mike and I still don't know how Mike blew up and Dana didn't.
I wish Garrett Morris had been on more stuff over the years... ya would see him pop up here n there... but not nearly enough... he is one funny mama jama
That was because he was like that's era's Keanen in the since that doing SNL wasn't a launching pad or first major break for him, but another significant notch on his already lustrious acting belt, not to mention, like he said, he was at least 15 years older than the rest of the original cast.
1975....I was in 4th or 5th grade and NOT allowed to stay up or watch SNL. I remember one night, I heard from my room that SNL was on. I snuck down quietly downstairs, ,sat down without anyone seeing me, and caught a snippet of the show. I thought I was so cool to have seen that. I have enjoyed SNL through the years. Some more, some not. I am impressed with the current cast. Everyone has a special talent, and I am glad the show is still airing.
I remember watching them when I had a Broken leg stayed up all night till the network went off the air for the night . Back then there were only like 3-4 networks.God they were great ! Thanks for the good times .
I love the original cast of SNL. Including Bill Murray. Just seeing them all on stage brings back so many memories. I miss Gilda Radner and John Belushi. I was only twelve when SNL first aired and now I am in my fifties! Hard to believe the cast range in age from their 60's to 80's!
Historic moment. Who here didn't love watching Saturday Night Live when this cast was on? Who doesn't still quote lines from sketches that they appeared in?
....and he was a GREAT singer. Any bits where he had to sing - including, and especially, opera - were great. He was great at nailing the idioms of any style, and in a comedic way. I just rewatched the first four seasons. There's a bit where he's doing a show tune based on Charles Manson's obsession with The White Album, specifically Revolution #9, it's so hilarious I can't even tell you, I crack up just THINKING about that bit. And the song is IN 9/4. He's singing in an odd time signature, and nailing it.
It’s true that John and Gilda brought the danger to the show with what they were willing to do. It’s a shame what they suffered with. I wish they were both here today. So glad this cast was given this honor. They had to take their humble experience of improv and the influence of Monty Python and Laugh-In, and create a whole new experience…on live TV!!
Honoring SNL without Bill Murray is like honoring Knots Landing or Dynasty without Donna Mills or Joan Collins only because they weren't part of the original cast. They made those shows.
@@analogkid4957 "Bill took SNL to another level." Nope. Not in any way. He wasn't the guy who made Stripes yet, let alone Ghostbusters, he got funnier over the years.
It was the show’s best era. I’m not saying that out of nostalgia, they were damn good comedic actors and had brilliant writers. The mid-80s with Hartman, Carvey and Lovitz is a very close second.
i'm surprised jon lovitz never went on to be a big star. dude is hilarious in almost everything I've seen him in. was he just not marketable enough as an actor to get big?

So crazy seeing how old they’ve all gotten. Time flies. And growing up watch those guys and how hilarious they were and still are. Hope they ha e a lot of years ahead of them
I came here to see my friends and I love them very much.
Laraine Newman looks so much more lovely now than she did back then. Great upload! I used to play out in a band and missed an awful lot of the Saturday Night shows. Well, it's been 40+ years...Gotta see if there's somewhere that has all those old programs!
Fashion in the 70's was tacky.
Her face has filled out well. On the show, she always looked like she was sucking her cheeks in, which looked weird to me then...
@Igor Schmidlapp yeah drugs do that to you.
These men & women of the original cast (+Murray!) have some way inspired every comedian alive today, and those comedians will influence future comedians, and so on. That means, what they did on SNL and their shows/films will be embedded forever in comedy itself. They ARE comedy :)
Love Aykroyd and Murray, they seem like real genuine nice people, love their work on SNL and through their movies. Ghost Busters, Trading Places, the Great Outdoors, etc
Bill Murray should’ve been included as part of the original cast. You don’t remember the original without remembering him.
He was part of the original auditions, but was passed on because they didn't want three "bad" boys with Aykroyd Belushi and Murray. They got them a year later!
Not true.
@Rover Bill Murray came in the 2nd season when Chevy Chase left the show.
@@Ram44 Murray actually joined the cast in 1977....after the Christmas break of season 2... But Murray WAS the first of all them to star on "Saturday Night Live"....bit tricky that one...
I never like b murray
Fantastic!!! I just graduated when this show started. Best comedians together in one place!!!
I love them all! Anyone who can entertain with love and laughter is a Knight Of The Ages!
It was a special time! Loved waiting all week for SNL!!!
Chevy actually sounds and looks better than he did a few years ago.
He supposedly quit drinking a couple years before this.
THE BEST 'SNL' cast imo. I was growing up then only 10 when it first aired. Great memories 🙂
Originals cast was when snl was the best When they were the not ready for prime time players
Oct 11, 1975. I had turned 16 the week before and SNL became the touchstone for my young generation. I could write pages about what these cast members and the show meant to us over the years, but I will simply say Bravo!
Or as General Francisco Franco might say, "Bravissimo!" (from beyond).
Thank you for uploading. Real comedy.
I've watched SNL since the beginning , and I feel that the years with Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman had the most consistently funny skits.
Couldn't agree more! Absolutely love and loved Dana! He, in my opinion, was so much more talented that Mike and I still don't know how Mike blew up and Dana didn't.
Phil as "Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer"
BILL MURRAY IS SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE& SOSOSO MUCH MORE! I LOVE YOU MORE THAN WORDS BILL MURRAY! THE MAN!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
THE BEST SHOW ON TV. I ADORE IT❤️
Always classy. My favorite snl cast. I love them very much!
I wish Garrett Morris had been on more stuff over the years... ya would see him pop up here n there... but not nearly enough... he is one funny mama jama
SealTeam Ryx Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor overshadowed his success.
Last I seen him was 2 broke girls.
Quality not quantity. I fully agree he didn’t do enough, but the stuff he did do was pure comedy gold.
That was because he was like that's era's Keanen in the since that doing SNL wasn't a launching pad or first major break for him, but another significant notch on his already lustrious acting belt, not to mention, like he said, he was at least 15 years older than the rest of the original cast.
He was the radio station owner on Martin... funny as hell.
Roseanna Roseanna Danna...we miss you Gilda and John B too!
It just goes to show ya…
It's always something.
Gotta say Bill Murray still funny as hell
Loraine Newman said it best. Each generation should love the cast at their time!!! I'm from the original cast. RIP Gilda & James!!!!!
Tim Tobias Gilda and John.. James is his brother and alive...
@@timclemons5473 sounded like a troll attempt,
Watched the first episode and was hooked!!!
Chevy is my idol. I would give anything to meet him and shake his hand and thank him. Genuinely.
TWO THUMBS UP FOR THIS VIDEO. Enjoyed every minute. Thanks for posting.
Dan Aykroyd can't stop cracking up behind chevy☺
He's just a big kid at heart, always has been! :)
He gets his humour, some jokes go over people heads as they are just fast quips, but Dan knows him well and gets his jokes.
Well they are best friends since the late 70s.
Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase have NEVER been best friends, are you kidding me? Dan always sided with Belushi over Chevy.
He was definitely laughing at him and not with him. They apparently were and aren’t friendly
They were my favorites, how did I miss that
Kudos to Garrett Morris for showing some class considering how he was treated when he was on the show. His speach was funny and moving.
I remember watching them when I had a Broken leg stayed up all night till the network went off the air for the night . Back then there were only like 3-4 networks.God they were great ! Thanks for the good times .
I was just watching Dan Aykroyd’s reactions the whole time
I love the original cast of SNL. Including Bill Murray. Just seeing them all on stage brings back so many memories. I miss Gilda Radner and John Belushi. I was only twelve when SNL first aired and now I am in my fifties! Hard to believe the cast range in age from their 60's to 80's!
Ground breaking, refreshing, unpredictable, unique, original
Would never miss an episode back then, all great talents writing and performing. Never bother to tune in to today's SNL.
Historic moment. Who here didn't love watching Saturday Night Live when this cast was on? Who doesn't still quote lines from sketches that they appeared in?
LAND SHARK!
LOVE THAT BASS!
No Coke uh Pepsi...
Q : You have the rest of your life to discover what all the fuss was about.😊
Q : Troll. Self serving troll.
THE best cast of all of the casts. I was only 10 when it aired. So many laughs & memories. Kudos to the originals☺
LOL - Garrett killed it! Funniest one there, and originally he was the least-celebrated Not Ready for Prime Time Player.
Baseball has been berry good to me !
....and he was a GREAT singer.
Bills comedic timing and delivery is second to none :D
Judging by Dan Ackroyd's reaction at 10:18, it seems like he knows where it went... :)
Jackie Nelson 😆
Dan Aykroyd***
I had always made time for Saturday night Live !
Thanks for the upload ... on her behalf, her name is spelled Laraine Newman.
DesiluTrek as soon as it came up, I cringed, too.
When Chevy looked through the magnifying glass at the end 😂
Honoring SNL without Bill Murray is like honoring Knots Landing or Dynasty without Donna Mills or Joan Collins only because they weren't part of the original cast. They made those shows.
"They made" No, SNL was already famous before Bill joined.
Kevin wasn't even around back than so his just talking out of his ass
What about Steve Martin?
Brazilian Atlantis But Bill took SNL to another level.
@@analogkid4957 "Bill took SNL to another level." Nope. Not in any way. He wasn't the guy who made Stripes yet, let alone Ghostbusters, he got funnier over the years.
When they showed Chevy in the audience, and then pulled back to Dan and Bill sitting behind him, wow.
The orginional cast to include Bill Marry were the greatest thank u all
It was the show’s best era.
ACTING!
@@evanjackson2777 GENIUS!
They were great!
What a classy group of comedians
They knew they had it from the jump. Knew it was the right
show at the right time. Show just oozed with Swag and Confidence.
Drawing all the then college kids from across the East Coast. Who'd
never before even CONSIDERED a job writing comedy. SNL an
Arnold and a Sly in its' own right. A philosophy. A religion.
Comedy is a Religion.
