This channel is so classy that sometimes I feel I can't even afford just watching it
How about a video, “3 affordable alternatives to the affordable alternatives”.
Haha, perhaps the orient ray 2 will be the best alternative's alternative to the sub
$1200 is pretty affordable to an average person if they save for some time. Or you could just buy a Seiko or Citizen
@@jose7777777777777777 $1200 is still a ridiculous amount to spend on a device that does nothing but tell the time and date, no matter how beautiful or complicated it is. I could buy a small car for that money, or an advanced newtonian telescope, or a high quality electric guitar, or a top of the line smartphone, maybe even two.
SD Casio, Seiko n Citizens
Vainbow
Why are you here then? Stop being so poor. Treat yourself or stick to your dime a dozen smartphone.
That Rado is way nicer than the Rolex - I never understood the fascination for Rolex - with the amount of watches they make every year they are the Toyota of Swiss automatic divers..... It's probably too retro, but it would be nice if you would make a video on Bulova's tuning fork movement from the 60s and the Swiss makers that used them (like Certina)
Very good alternatives. I would however like to add - as someone who was in the same position many years ago - that if you truly have a desire to one day own your grail watch, nothing will every completely scratch that itch. Many people buy watches like this as "filler" because they can't afford the watch they want right now. Basically that's throwing money away since most of the watches featured here are still well over 1000 dollars/pounds to buy, they're not that cheap. I'm here to say its okay to wait a little and save up to get the thing you really want. The exception to this is if you know that you won't be able or simply do not want to pay the premium for your dream watch, then by all means get something that gives you the looks without the price. It's really about knowing if you are able to save up for your dream watch or not. If you are, have some patience and don't waste money buying "alternatives". If you don't have the means or just can't justify the costs, these are excellent, well built alternatives that will give you many years of pleasure.
Having gotten a grail watch pretty recently, I agree with the idea that these fillers will not do. Once I gotten my grail I been on a purge of sort because I realized that not much else measures up. But with all of that said, I think these fillers purchased used could be alright as you can flip the watch near the cost that you purchased it and have something to wear during the saving up process to the grail.
What JP did this week I’d also add that I’ve had a watch in mind but in exploring alternatives have found watches I actually enjoy more.
But same here - if you REALLY want a watch, it’s hard to scratch that itch...
Completely agree
guilty of this! set me back from getting my first Rolex a couple of years.
I wholeheartedly agree and just purchased my grail last week 116619LB. Patience & stay the course....
I like Rado most on this list.
I feel like it still is its own thing rather than somesort of a knock of.
Rado would make me feel I bought a killer watch instead of a cheaper alternative of what I actually want.
Personally I don't want to get reminded everyday that I couldn't get the watch I actually wanted everytime I check the time.
I love the Captain Cook. ❤️
didn't realize one of my go-to tech channels also enjoys Watchfinder & co!
It really is a small world
Stay Snazzy!! Good to know that one of the few good, unbiased, tech channels also enjoys watches! Happy holidays by the way
@Sam Clanon I've been thinking about that watch. Can't wait to get my hands on one.
Sam Clanon I was wondering if they had a smaller version.
@@eyeheartsushi2212 very light had one on my wrist the 45mm th re titanium and the center links are like polish looking, under 7 inch wrist I would maybe look at the one that is 37mm maybe finding the at 37mm on a bracelet is alittle harder.
Apart from learning more about watches, it’s always such a pleasure to listen to the narrative delivered in proper English. A rare find on RUclips.
You can get an Omega for half the price of that Rolex and may I dare say just as good, if not - may be, just may be - better.
Ismael Bonal amen to that
Major Woody then what does that make Casio?
Movement wise Omega blows Rolex out of the water, buildquality wise its another story. They're really good, nothing to be ashamed of, just not quite at Rolex level
@Major Woody Omega will forever be one of the world's premier watchmakers. Calling it a poor man's brand is an exercise in ignorance.
@@A320Pilots The new models are simply amazing and match Rolex quality if not better. Just look at the Aquaterra...
Rado did right with that Captain Cook.
“And what kind of a person would do that?” Such a subtle joke, hilarious!
Within the first few seconds, I'm already enjoying this video
I really like the RADO Captain Cook. Hardened Titanium interests me.
Great video mate! My 2 cents from experience, if you cant get the dream watch, its better to buy an Iconic lower priced watch for the budget you have, because the "look alternative" will not only remind you that you could not purchase the real deal, you may lose interest in the watch because its not special...
For 1000 dollars, I would save up for 1000 more and buy an Omega Speed master any day, because at least its an iconic watch that although you may not find as an alternative, will make you feel special (you may even forget the grail piece that started it all...
Other "secret tips" are Vintage Grand Seikos (even quartz) , Zenith El primeros....or an 90s Omega Seamaster......
Also the 1000 dollar Rado will not be sellable at all!....If you do get frustrated with it being your "grail copy" ....whereas with lower priced classics they will mostly hold their value!
i would agree on the montblanc and the alpina being alternatives to the JJ and the IWC, but that Rado is something of its own. i would like that Captain Cook no matter how much i would be able to spend on a dive watch.
At last a rado Capitan cook , thank you
I need more affordable alternatives to these alternatives
Cuz you can't afford the the real one.
@@markomarin3414 you must be dumb af
Steinhart has a couple of great Rolex "homages" for a very decent price and it's well-equipped.
@ekim andersom i started my collection with a G Shock DW5600, still rocking it to this day as i near buying my first Longines :D and maybe a frederique constant
there is innovative creations in watch making all so authentic and can be considered mile stones that cost much much less. and there is also these.
I love the Montblanc 😍 and the Alpina is strikingly beautiful.
The Montblanc is beautiful
Could you do a more detailed video on the captain cook? Perhaps the 37mm
"...And what kind of a person would do that?" made me laugh out loud. (Talking about not being able to tell the difference between the two watches unless comparing them side by side)
I wouldn't call Captain Cook alternative to Submariner. If I had a Sub, I'd get Rado just because it's a unique sick looking watch with damn good specs.
Or the Oris aquis instead of the Submariner.
you're right, it's a wonderful watch
The last time they did a video like this, they put the Oris Diver Sixty-Five in as the alternative to the Submariner.
The Baume & Mercier Clifton Baumatic is another good alternative for the JLC Master Control.
Rado's turning logo is a nice touch! I wasn't aware of it...
Don't buy the Montblanc, Rado or Alpina if what you want something else because you'll never be satisfied. Only get them if you want to buy those watches.
A 33mm quartz AP Royal Oak should be included here for those of us with feminine wrists. It is pure class.
Best regards,
Sir Willie Stroker
I Clog Toilets hahaha
I am over the moon guys!!!
Tried to buy an Omega Speedmaster reduced a week ago (1200€) but I've thought about it and just got the Moonwatch, my grail watch.
Get the watch you want and don't buy a gap filler/Hommage. The only person you try to trick is yourself.
Great alternatives and as usual top notch production. Love the Rado love.
Im a big fan of the Oris Aquis and own a few but last week I was in a shopping mall and threw a Captain Cook over my wrist for curiosity and couldn't believe how beautiful, light and comfortable this thing was. I was in shock of the affect it had on me. Couldn't even feel it on my wrist. Now I'm selling one of my Oris Aquis pieces and ordering the a rado in blue. Absolutely gorgeous. So neat, clean and simple.
I think the Montblanc Héritage without seconds and date is more beautiful, also extremely thin. One of the most beautiful dress watches at any price.
Some inexpensive but still good alternatives:
- Dress watches: Certina Caimano Powermatic 80, Seiko Sarb065, Orient Star Classic, Maen Brooklyn 39, Tissot Visodate (have this one) and Hamilton Intra-Matic
- IWC Pilot Pro: Steinhart Nav. B Chrono (this is a homage), Hamilton Aviation Pilot Pro (have this one)
- Rolex Submariner: Tissot Seastar 80, Steinhart Ocean 39 Ceramic (this is a homage) or a Seiko SKX007 with a higher quality aftermarket oyster type bracelet and ceramic bezel.
Please continue to do this comparisons, they are great!
I think owing a 10k pound watch is a reachable dream, of course it comes with planning and saving, going beyond that being a middle class might be a little irresponsible...
I have to say, I just bought a Fireman Enterprise from Ball, and it might just be the best alternative to the Rolex explorer for the money... Just my opinion :)
Yes I have one too and it is a nice piece but not the finish like on Rollie . The crown sticks out too much and tends to want to cross thread , that said I still love mine ! For around $1000 it’s a great watch imo!
Congratulations TR s. Ball offers really good value. I own a Engineer M Challenger. Fantastic watch with Ball's first in-house movement..
To be honest, the finish on your ball is much better than a 14270 or even a 114270. Now if we’re comparing to the 214270 then it’s even, but BUILD wise they’re near identical. I actually prefer the ball because of the lack of numbers. Also the explorer design has nothing to do with Mt Everest, so I don’t know why anyone would take that over an OP that is closer to what was actually worn to the summit.
In my opinion a good alternative to the Rolex Explorer is the Sinn 556a.
At approximately a fifth of the price it’s certainly a less expensive watch.Along with a long list of top rate specifications(sapphire glass, exhibition case back,200mtrs water resistance etc)It doesn’t have an in house movement,it’s an ETA 2824-2.The workhorse of the ETA movements, easy to maintain, can be adjusted to COSC certification.
I could go on,and I am sure it’s all been said before, but as alternatives go this is top grade.
Well done and hits home to many. Thank you
The premise of the vid is good but here's the problem I have with this kind of thinking....if you want the JLC, for example, settling for something else just won't do. That itch will not be scratched, you won't bond with what you've purchased & you could end up thinking it's a waste of money and you're left further away from the watch you did want at the start of the conversation. If you want the JLC, or indeed any watch, and you can't afford it now, then save. That period of waiting will either keep you interested & excited going forward or allow you time to realise it was never for you in the first place. These are luxury items to be enjoyed after all. And what would be so wrong with purchasing approved used and savings yourself some £££? Granted the Rolex won't come down in price soon but the others you can save at least a third if you shop around carefully.
3:48 the Alpina is NOT a Bi-Compax but a Uni-Compax/Compur. One of the sub-dials are for the running seconds. Compax does not mean number of subdials but number of complications of the movement.
Your content just oozes quality! I friquin love it!
What makes me crazy, is that if they are coming from a brand which is known it's called "alternative" if comes from a new brand making now it's start they call it "homage"...That's not fair...
Excellent video as always!
The Edox Delfin came up in 1973, a year after the Royal Oak and the inspiration is clearly there. Some Certinas, to me, look like Omegas.
Buy the JLC, it’s the real deal.
Montblanc uses off the shelf calibres bar its Villeret collection, which you cannot afford anyway
That Rado is a good looking watch. Simple, yet unique.
Tudor Black Bay and Oris 65 👌
I like all these alternatives except the Rado. The best alternative to a Rolex in my opinion is a Steinhart, e.g. the titanium Ocean One.
A Tissot Seastar Powermatic 80
Good looking diver
Excellent choice @ 600$ only. It's also incredibly accurate. Only drawback is it can't be regulated and needs a special service.
Agreed, if only they made a 39mm version
Ismael Bonal what do you mean by special service? I own a Tissot and looking to get a tag. After reading the Seastar suggestion I love it! Would it just mean a few extra costs?
@@Beaver489 I mean not any watch shop can simply regulate it or fix it. You would have to go to a Tissot dealer or Agent. But don't worry. If you take good care of it, it will serve you for years before it needs that special service.
Ismael Bonal I see, thanks a lot.
I love the Rado Captain Cook! I prefer the 42 mm. So comfortable and stylish! It's been my favorite watch for quote a few years now.
Love all these watches. Each of these affordable options are great watches in their own right (and respected throughout the community). Further, I’d offer than any watch geek worth their salt would tip their hat to anyone wearing these affordable options.
As for other affordable cousins, I’d offer that Oris makes several models whose cousins can be found in more expensive lines. And the GO Panomatic is a great alternative to the Lange 1
All fine alternatives but my findings over the years is it’s better to wait and get the right watch than by a cheaper alternative. You’ll scratch the itch temporarily but that itch won’t go away completely until you get the model you wanted in the first place.
Wow that might be the worst alternative to a Submariner I’ve ever seen suggested...
DATING HARLEY QUINN Wow I personally find it interesting at best. It’s no where near the beautiful sophisticated tool watch that the Sub is and has been for decades. That bezel cannot he unseen. Yuck.
The seamaster 300m is the submariner alternative. Near half the price from a company which has been producing highly accurate, well made watches for over 150 years. The name may not carry the same weight as ‘rolex’ to the average person, but neither does Jaeger-LeCoultre or IWC
“Affordable alternative” ... £2000... This really is a channel for the rich . I can only dream of classing that as affordable.
I would love a comparison between a Sinn diver like the Ux and the Rolex sea dweller
How about breitling vs sinn navitimers seems interesting
Check out the Seiko SRPB61K1
Alex Wong thanks mate looks good!
I currently own an 80's TAG Heuer professional...I get asked if it's a Rolex at least once a month have also been asked if it was a Breitling Colt (it has a yellow dial)...one person asked if it was an Armani and I had to give them a little education on quality
Kolber watches are cheap but looks really elegant and sharp. Plz review them
I differ with your choice of going with the Alpina. The *Sinn 356 SA* has more conplexity, and even though it's not as "unique", it has german design all over it. Plus a 38mm case that is more manageable for smaller wrists
That Alpina wouldn't be so bad if the logo wasn't ridiculously enormous on the dial.
Bookmarked that Montblanc for later on the watchfinder website, thats a beautiful piece I absolutely need
The Tissot Seastar 1000 powermatic would be a very nice alternative to the Rolex Submariner. It is made from a very good, known and reliant manufacturer, and its not even 1000 euros, pounds w/e you use.
The Seastar is a really nice watch for the price. The only thing I dont like is that the numbers on the rotating bezel are just WAY too oversized.
What's going on logo above the RADO text? It looks like it moves in between shots? What is it for?
If the Mont Blanc is an acceptable alternative to the JL then my Squale 1545 is an acceptable alternative to the Rolex Sub. Glad to see Watchfinder now officially onboard with homage watches. Welcome!
I have no issue with homages, but I don't think that the Mont Blanc could truly be considered a homage given how unoriginal the design of the JLC is.
@@toolongforyoutoread6 True, which raises the question: would that JLC really be anybody's grail?
Any of my 3 Oris are great alternatives to more expensive brands. My current favourite is my Pro Pilot Air Racing Edition VI with a black leather strap. Can’t take it off after 2.5 years!! Cost $1500 in New York.
Bentley aqua master automatic. With 8 diamond pieces, and day of the month date. Deep royal blue dial with rose gold splashed on the outside. A really eye catching watch and a conversation starter. I know because I got it, and as cheap as 600 $. The catch is its made in Germany though all its parts or most of it is Swiss, but the assembly is in Germany. A really underrated eye catching watch that I'm glad that I got in my country because you can barely find it online or anything about it except for the official bentley website for watches.
That Montblanc is absolutely gorgeous. The Rado as well.
I thought my Jaeger master ultra thin date is an affordable alternative to Vacheron Constantin patrimony 85180.
Love these types of videos, I'm a big fan of the understated, and love finding out about alternatives to "big brand" products.
I learn about a new watch brand everyday.
I would have never known about the IWC watch strap function. Great video.
Review IWC 3719-28 please
Please can you review the Tissot T classic tradition open heart... Please!?
REVUE THOMMEN AIRSPEED CHRONOGRAPH Watch would be a good alternative to IWC Pilot Chronograph
I love the smaller version of the captain cook. I can think of a lot of much more affordable watches all of which are superb. But as with everything in life, it's all about personal choice and Im not sure many would feature on this channel. Super video again just love the sublime watches featured. Hope everyone involved has a great Christmas 🌲
Casio Duro is a great alternative for the Submariner! if youre ok with a quartz, its 40 to 50 dollars, and will need a nato or perlon strap
A great alternative for the IWC Pilot Mark XVIII (€3000) is the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 38mm (€420)!
Love your site and your youtube chanel. When are you going to make an app for google play and appstore? That would be very nice!
Glad I found this channel. Learning a lot. Thanks !
100% do not see that Rado as an alternative to a Sub
Longines No Date Legend Diver is a great cheap alternative for the Polaris if you ask me
Rado Captain Cook is a piece of art
Ugh! I was disturbed by his Mont Blanc pronounciation. I'd go for Omega for a Rolex alternative.
I have a Doxa 1200T which is quite nice for the price. Very accurate and nice finishing with a cool company history.
I like the Captain Cook but 45mm is a bit big. I dont think big will always be around
What kind of person would do that???
Superb video as usual. Thanks for posting
That mont blanc is pretty. The seiko 007 or orient ray seem a lot more in line with the submariner styling though.
Hate me for saying this but I would add the Invicta Pro Diver especially the 9937OB as an alternative to the Submariner at or around $300-400? If that's too much, check out the 8926 OB and 8928 OB models.
Merry Christmas, and thank you for a great year, when it comes to your videos on watches. See you in 2019!!
I have a girard perragaux tourbillion but how do i know if its a replica or a original
The Tissot Seastar 2000 Professional would be a fantastic alternative to the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean.
Instead of the Rado I’d have a Oris Aquis
NEVER, ever been a Rado fan. Don’t even like the name, but this one is head and shoulders above the submariner.
Well done Rado. Great job and a beautiful design
For me the Christopher Ward dive watch is better and nicer than any Rolex sub. Anyway can you make a video on Maurice Lacroix Aiken automatic ? Some say it is a cheap version of Royal Oak ...
I would present Seiko Presage as the cheaper alternative to JLC since you get complete in-house manufacturing and beautiful dials (even in enamel) for a lot less than $2k
This channel is so classy that if you make him review the cheapest casio watch it would probably look like it's worth 1 million dollars
Would you consider to tell us an affordable alternative for the Rolex explorer model, I got my eye on the Longines conquest automatic, is it another model brand to consider. And wil you guys be so kind to explain the category sport watch and give us information that can help us to differentiate this type of watch from the others. Congrats to team for everything. Everything iooks perfect. You really nail it.
I love the song that's playing in the background... any chance ANYONE knows the name?
JLC superior finishing stops on around the date window where you can see the paint on the right side is raised poor job.
Could you compare a Jaeger with a Patek? Very curious to see the differences
It's called Mon(t)blan(c).
The T and the C are silent and the ''an'' is pronounced like an ''o''.
But cool video! Love this channel!
Greetings from Zürich.
Pascal Fischer. Nit picking 😜
If you don't want the letters to be pronounced, then you shouldn't put the in there in the first place :)
Thought i was the only guy that got triggered by it
Leggo My Ego like the words “know” “knee” “knife” etc?
@@valicourt There is a reason I had a smiley face at the end of the comment, it's called sarcasm.
Thank you so much for these alternatives - all are wonderful and affordable.
