If you're looking for a third-party battery solution for the FX30, especially the SmallRig brand, then that's great. Just be informed that after the firmware version 3.0 update, the battery percentage info will no longer show or appear on the LCD. The only solution as far as I know is to not update to firmware version 3.0 if you want to keep using the SmallRig battery and have the percentage info show on the LCD screen. I have just bought the Smallrig Batteries for my FX30 which is on V3.0 and the percentage info DOES show up.

Hey Bernie...I bought 3 genuine batteries but I got a generic charger that works fine..I read/watched somewhere that sometimes Sony releases firmwares for cameras that make some third party batteries stop communicating with the camera and so become useless...I would hate for this to happen...my FX30 is still in firmware 1.0 and I don't intend to upgrade the firmware...unless there is something super special about the latest...anyway...this smallrig 2 battery pack and charger is less than one Sony battery...tempted but...dunno...!
@Erick Perdomo, oh good to know! That’s unfortunate if ever after updating that it will become useless. I’m the same with you, I still have my FX30 at firmware 1.0 haha. 😂 I don’t want to update since my camera is totally fine and some users also reported that that their cameras were inoperable after the update and had to send the camera to Sony for repair. As for the Smallrig batteries, they work great so far and no issues at all. 🤞🏾that it’ll stay that way. I highly recommend it as a third party battery solution for the FX30. So far so good! 👌🏾

Did you have any problems with original batteries after charging them in this smallRig charger?

So, I have noticed my battery on my camera suddenly drains faster after using this. Even when the camera is turned off. Not sure if anyone else has noticed this.
@cheyiokoaye2007, were you referring to the SmallRig charger? If so, mine is still ok up to this day and no issues whatsoever. Hopefully you’ll get it sorted out soon. If it’s still under warranty maybe you want to contact SmallRig and hopefully they’ll send you a replacement if found faulty. I appreciate you watching the video! 🙏🏾
Hi Bernie, Amazon says this charger and batteries are not compatible with the FX-30. Can you clarify that it works ok for you?
Hi @Simon-bc2hy, I can confirm that they both work with the FX30. It’s just that the battery percentage will no longer show on the FX30’s LCD screen after the 3.0 update. If you still have the 2.0 update, then it’ll still show the battery percentage. Also, if you won’t be using the Sony Monitor & Control App, then there’s no need to update to firmware 3.0. Solution (but not portable) - I just tried recording a 4k video while charging with the USB-C power plug charger supplied in the box. I started recording at 25% battery while charging (the yellow light won’t appear but it’s ok) and after a 2 hour recording session when I unplugged the charger, battery was still at 25%. Just hit record while charging using the USB-C wire and plug supplied in the box. No need to buy anything else (unless you need portability) Also there was less heat as the internal battery wasn’t being used much!

Is there a way to tell the individual battery power for each battery... Or is it giving you the battery read out for one battery, or the collector unit of batteries being charged?
@TimothyBowser, it’s only when using the battery that the indicator doesn’t show. If there’s a smartphone attached and the monitor app is open then it shows only on the monitor but not on the camera’s LCD screen, as well as when the camera is plugged in via USB-C. @@BernieHipos I'm not talking about on the camera itself with the batteries that are added... I'm asking if on the actual charger itself when You are charging two batteries at the same time... Does the chargers show the battery power via the rings for both batteries are just one battery... Is there a way to tell the battery power for individual batteries.
@@TimothyBowser, oh ok gotcha. The LCD screen doesn’t show both charging status at the same time, instead it shows channel 1 status first and then channel 2 next and vice versa if you’re charging 2 batteries. When a channel is charging the charging status ring blinks, but when it’s fully charged, all four rings are present.

Does the battery charge faster with a USB C to USB C cable than the included USB A cable?
@Victor Ng Films, great question and thank you for giving me the idea to compare both cables! 🤔I haven't tried it since I'm mostly using the USB-C to USB-C cable so I don't know. How much time does it take to charge one battery from 0 to 100 percent ?
@Iconic Capture Studio, thanks for your question! I drained the battery earlier to test and actually it's still charging at the moment while I'm typing this comment. It's already been 3 hours and still not half full. The second circle indicator is still blinking and once it stops it means that it's already 50% charged. So I'd say the SmallRig battery has a slow charging time and I am using the USB-C port. I hope this helps and thanks for watching the video! 🙏🏽 Cheers!
@Bernie That is wayyy to slow. Have you tried charging them with an aftermarket fast charger if there's any out there?
@@shanoorpresswala4786, probably I should try it with a standalone charger. I used an Anker charger with multiple plugs, although no other devices were plugged-in into the charger. Maybe that's the culprit that's why it's slow? I'll do more tests and update this comment with the result. I appreciate you watching the video! 🙏🏽
A solution to also see the battery life is to download the creators app to see the battery life left on the camera if the life of it is not visible when using a third party battery. I guess sony wants us to their original battery.

I just updated to 3.0. These batteries still work, but the percentage is no longer visible. Sony is locking these down with the latest firmware.

Over 3 hours of smallrig battery life for $60 (incuding a 2 battery charger) vs 2 hours of sony battery for $80 (charger not included). $180 for a sony battery and sony single battery charger. Pretty soon sony cameras will cost $39.00 and the batteries will cost $2,500, the charger will be $3,500 and the cable to the charger will cost $1,100. Then they'll make the lenses battery powered too. Then of course all of the other camera companies will do the same thing. lol

Can u check if the battery percentage is showing after 3.00 update??? i saw a video that sony just blocked third party batteries after that update, thanks a lot!
@Terrorsoul023, after the 3.0 update, it no longer shows the percentage on the LCD screen and there was a notification that says the operation and the safety of the battery cannot be guaranteed which is a bummer. I talked about it in this video at 00:56 ruclips.net/video/z4vjtYg1KjM/видео.html
I can only see the percentage when I'm using the Monitor and Control app.
