      @keith-knittel I only got around to updating to 3.0 from 2.0 last week. I had to go to 2.5 first via a computer, then the 3.0 update. Also, I love the new app control, but cracks me up when I want to control my gimble at the same time.... takes multiple android devices to operate the way I like.

    The 18-105mm f4 is a more practical choice of the FX30 than the 24-105mm f4 lens because you get a wider field of view on the wide end, which is helpful since the FX30 has a "crop" sensor. The 18-105mm also gives you servo zoom, which is pretty cool.

      @@newsmagazine2133 doesn't matter because it has an e-mount. And the FX30 has an e-mount. The focal length is just different so he is right. Btw: the 18-105 mm is just 550 instead of 1000 for the 24-105

    Great video, loved the pacing. Couple of recommendations,
    > Atomos Ninja V with a couple of 1TB SSDs are better than carrying a case full of SD cards.
    > Viltrox 13mm F/1.4 is a wide angle fast prime lens. Couple more lens recommendations would be Sigma's 18-35 F/1.8 and 18-50 F/2.8.

    when it comes to redundant storage and backups, for lots of people its worth the investment of building a small NAS or even DAS system and configuring it in a RAID setup that suits your level of comfort for backup security. You can find a 4-6 drive bay for $500 or less and fill them with large drives like 12-16 TB (that way you can just start with 1-2 drives with room to grow) that run in the $150-250 range as you need them. The up front cost is certainly more than buying just 1-2 regular hard drives, but you're not constantly unplugging them and having to keep up with what footage is on what drives, as well as not having to manually do your backups.

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  Год назад +1

      I've been kicking the NAS can down the road for a long time, and it's only a matter of time before that happens. The only thing holding me back is that I have multiple computers that I edit from, and while having multiple drives is a pain in the butt, it's the fastest way to transfer lots of footage between machines/travel with. But it's only a matter of time before I end up building a NAS. Any recommendations?

    • @gingersmedia
      @gingersmedia Год назад

      @@keith-knittel just depends how much space you need really. Im most likely going to pick up the Synology 6 bay NAS and fill it with iron wolf 16 TB drives. (1-2 at a time) I filled my current WD my book duo 16 TB in about 2 years; but it was only about 1/4 full a year ago before I started my remote editing job and before I upgraded cameras too. I’m not a NAS/DAS expert myself I’m still learning too, but LTT has a couple of really great videos on it

    Hi Keith, some good advice, but I'm less sure about buying drives in two at a time given you store the same dots on each 'twin'. Why? Rick of batch faults!
    Everything about duplicate drives is great. Redundant storage etc. Esp if one drive is kept at a different address (fire risk or theft etc). But to really ensure data integrity then use same or similar drives by all means. Just buy them at different times or different suppliers so that there is little chance that both were made on same day or week etc when a possible life shortening fabrication error could occur. That way there is less risk that they could both fail at a similar future time point. Maybe that's being Uber cautious, but it's quite easy to implement and if it's ever needed, then you will be glad you took that additional precaution!?

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  Год назад

      Ooh man, I've never thought of this! I've also been storing my files on the cloud with backblaze lately so thats less of a risk now, but that is a great point!

    • @noth606
      @noth606 Месяц назад

      Ehm no, it's better to buy from different manufacturers. If you're going the route of having redundant storage it would be a bit silly to not do it properly and get the maximum security you can since you're already spending time and money on it. It's plain logic, there is no counter argument to this. Using cloud storage is an alternative but it has bitten me once, a cascade of misfortune cost me all my photos and videos going back several years. What happened was that I used to have everything backed up on iCloud, had a subscription billed every month on my creditcard - and then I fell and broke 2 vertebrae in my back, which cascaded to me becoming disabled, losing my job, and my creditcard was cancelled pretty abruptly by my bank because my income dropped. iCloud was being billed to my cancelled creditcard, which meant it got shut down before I had any way of copying all the stuff on there to something else. So trusting cloud storage cost me most of the photos I had of my son growing up, and nearly 10 years of photos and videos, most of which I had nowhere else.
      Your cloud storage is one accident away from being lost forever, keep that in mind when you use it.

    I shoot almost exclusively on my FX3 with one of those 256g prograde V60 cards @ $100 bucks. but knowing I would need a type A card for 120fps capabilities drove me nuts (I'm a completionist), so I purchased the smallest/cheapest type A card and that stupid thing is over twice the price at half the size.... I'm not sure it was needed so much beyond playing with slo motion. If I had to do it again, I'd just buy more prograde cards of equal size. Dual recordings get qwonky on mismatched cards kinda like the "hot dog to bun ratio".

    I dunno man. I feel like the Sony is what the original Blackmagic pocket cinema camera was . Those FZ batteries last for ever even on my A7siii. Rigging it just costs more gets more in the way and slows u down from creating .same as the xlr mic and slower than v90, basically not even close to get the best out ur camera. If ur gonna rig it up anyways might as well just use an A7iv imo or an A6400 with basic 10 bit

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  Год назад +1

      All depends on the shoot! If you're filming at a clients location all day in 4K, and using a monitor and wireless audio, you're going to need a v mount battery, or lots of batteries, unless you're by power and not moving the camera all day. If filming a few quick clips of broll for a video, I'd only take the camera, one lens and no external power to move quickly and just get the shots needed. The A7IV is a great camera but comes with it's own problems (over heating in video being the big one) and the A6400 doesnt have 10-bit video. Really hard to say definitively that one thing is better than another when there are so many different things to shoot and every camera has it's quirks

    Don't know if you realize this, but this black gaze devouring transition is really disturbing. It's like something out of a horror movie. Maybe quite funny once you see it. But across the video as a standard transition it is unbearable.

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  Год назад +1

      Hey there Val, admittedly that was on purpose. In every video, I try to do a small experiment with my editing or the video and "a jarring transition on a talking head video, to see if it raises retention" is one that I wanted to try out. So I found this one that was pretty wild and used it. Looking back, I should have varied it or maybe found different versions of this so it wasn't so repetitive, but this was a test in retention... and... it kind of worked. My analytics say that transition kept people's attention longer than other straight cuts when comparing it to similar segments and timing to other related videos - although some people have commented that it's very distracting. But that was part of the test! Thank you for your super valuable feedback. You hit the nail on the head! In the future, I'm going to tone it down and see how that affects retention and if people like the effect more. RUclips is a tough trial and error process. Sorry it was disturbing to you, I really do apologize for that. Didnt mean to offend anyone but thank you for the feedback!
